I am also not sure of what you call worthy, and I am not doing comparisons, many CU graduates are employers of labor, not to talk of the fact the oldest graduate has only been out of school for about 9 years. The ones I remember off the top of my head are these ones, you can check Google for others, if you are interested.

You need not to worry yourself. A good example is the guy behind the reality show, fastest shedder, his ingenuity not only created job for other people, but he's helping in reducing a public health disaster in the name of obesity.

I hope not. Putin is a very stubborn person, but I really don't see Obama going to war.

It beats my imagination to see many Nigerians embrace social media with arrogant display of ignorance. I never attended ivory tower colleges, but I can tell you this schools churn out products that are truly enviable.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Why Are Chinese Companies In Nigeria Maltreating Nigerians? by minkawe: 1:30am On Aug 10, 2014
Labour unions only practise unionism in favour of financially buoyant and committed members, not some group of people living from hand to mouth. Forget that charade by TUC or NLC, they can only mobilize those guys as foot soldiers in achieving a greater goal. Let the bigwigs like oil workers have any issue and you're going to see them flex muscle.

It's amazing when Nigerians take to social media to vent their anger, because the question that comes to mind is simple, do you know your employer?. The Chinese state is what it is today because of extremely cheap labour, even American companies find it comfortable to outsource to China,in a bid to maximize gains and beat competitors. My point is, you don't expect a man that enslaves his brother for profit to treat a foreigner better.

meforyou1: The hatred of igbos by Hausas and Yorubas in this country is turning from the alarmin and annoying to amusing and most ridiculous.
Saying we hate Igbos is an insult to some of us who are married to Igbo.

When you go through various posts on nairaland you are likely to cry for Nigeria, because it's becoming hard to see good in one another, but rather bigotry and ethnicity has become the bane of our public views. Great individuals cut across tribes and performers in their various field of play are not limited to any section of the country, we all have our strengths and weaknesses but yet we ought to work around it for a greater triumph. Emphasing on few bad eggs in a tribe does not rule out the multitude of good ones around.
I think instead of this NYSC, part of our school curriculum right from secondary school should be travelling, because travelling is an eye opener which subserves the function of shaping your views. I have been opportuned to see and live in about 18states and that has shown me nobody has the monopoly of either vices or knowledge.

The good thing about Igbo is their enterprising nature coupled with humility. I think the tribe is a blessing to Nigeria, check the nooks and crannies and you find these set of people putting themselves to good use. I love and emulate you folks and I'm not an Igbo man.

If you really think the training of Doctors is demanding, why do you think you can transform people who haven't been trained in the same way to easily work as Doctors.

In countries where they use Advanced providers as diagnosticians, they are well trained.

For instance a nurse practitioner is firstly trained as a nurse, and then they go through an 18 to 24 month program where they undertake clinical rotations in Doctor's offices to learn the art of medicine.

I'm just saying that If we want to do something, we have to do it right!!!

Why are we trying to implement things we don't understand?

I have worked on both sides... so I'm talking from experience.
So, you think the gridlock situation we have currently in the health sector is the best. As much as I'm in total agreement with you on training and the quality of training, Sir, do you think these fighters see it along that line of thought, rather people believed they're being repressed by Doctors. If Laboratory scientists could be bold to usurp authority of Pathologists, what are we then saying; the workings of things in health sector is not really clear too many, rather many believe Doctors are only protecting their selfish interests.

I agree that training more Doctors wouldn't fix all the problems. However, it will fix most. Also, like I said, the remuneration has to be competitive. (or else we will continue to train Doctors for countries that appreciate them better). I also agree that there is a role for "properly trained" advanced providers in medicine. Nigeria is however not ready for that.

In Nigeria, I'm sorry to say that the standards of education has fallen so much that well trained professionals in most fields are in short supply(including docs) The educational system is collapsing. Hospitals are overstretched.

We don't even have a system of verifying whether the so called "Doc" treating you is a real Doctor. Everybody believes he can diagnose and prescribe better than a Doc that was trained for 6 years. And there is no system to keep that in check.

It is like saying that we need more policing agencies in Nigeria after the police, army, lastma, VIAO, customs etc. First, we need to regulate what we have otherwise we will just kill more Nigerians.

In developed countries that you used as examples, they have tried to maximize their ability to train and utilize Docs before they resorted to utilizing TRAINED advanced providers (which could be pharmacists or Nurses). And their activities are regulated.

In Nigeria, we can't regulate our Doc practices and make sure they all do the right thing yet. How will adding more untrained health workers to that pool help innocent patients?

If the FG is interested in the health of the people, we already have programs that can be utilized to ensure healthcare in remote areas.
Well, FG did not create the chaos in the health sector to start with, so why do you think they are not interested in the health of the people. The issue as I said in my previous post is that the health sectors has too many stars that want to be reckon with whereas the hospital setting avails doctors alone such opopportunity.
Also, your comparison or analogy using paramilitary did not suffice, because various paramilitary outfit are created day in day out with ex-men running some wonderful outfits, then also training a military personnel is not as demanding as training Doctors, so recruitment is a lot more easier than churning out medical graduates.
Politics / Re: So, General Buhari Tried To Kill Himself? by minkawe: 2:38am On Jul 29, 2014
GMB outliving that attack is something to be celebrated by all and sundry. Truth be told, many Nigerians only clamour for war not knowing what it's going to do to them and their loved ones. A multi-ethnic state like Nigeria would have been on the brink of war, if not full blown civil war with GMB's demise via that dastardly act.

The solution here is to make sure the Doctors that are trained in Nigeria, stay around to practice in Nigeria. (At least 30% - 40% of Nigerian trained doctors leave to work in foreign countries)

You can only do that by being more competitive. Provide better remuneration and better facilities.

The long term solution will be to train more Doctors in Nigeria. And you do that by going to medical school to learn about diagnosis, and after diagnosing, you ask for the help of a well trained pharmacist in deciding on medication choices for your diagnosis.

Bro, I love to diagree with training more Doctors as a solution. All around the globe, Doctors are either in short supply or concentrated in commercial centers hence as years role into years other health workers were trained to provide services to people in those communities Doctors decided to abandon. Canada is worst hit because the rate at which they churn out medical graduates is abysmally low coupled with stiff competition in their postgraduate training, close to 20states in United states have granted Pharmacist the prescribers role because Doctors don't like working there. This problem seems more deeply rooted than we think.
Politics / Re: FG Moves To Privatise Hospitals by minkawe: 1:56am On Jul 29, 2014
Neatboy: With proper planning and strong regulatory bodies alot can be achieve. Since Nigerians are oblivious of what health insurance is. Government has to enlighten the public. I believe, this should be inclusive in the planning process. If government really is determined it can niche a nice plan that will serve as shock-absorber or parliatives. I really want these dudes to be engaged like their counterparts in overseas
You think that is possible with the level of poverty and illiteracy in the North?. Bro, all these your theories are good on paper, come and look at the effect on the populace.
Politics / Re: FG Moves To Privatise Hospitals by minkawe: 1:19am On Jul 29, 2014
Why the shout?, I ask. If government go in the way of privatization, everybody is going to suffer excluding politicians and the super rich. The reason for the long tussle on ObamaCare is because many Americans cannot access healthcare whereas the bloated Republicans could not see that as long as they have donations from Capitalist Ventures. Doctors will get jobs with their juicy pays; only now you get paid for job done, which makes it important for them to sit their ass down. Pharmacists are going to be mainly streamlined to Industry and few that can cope with rural setting, would sticki to community practise, provided doctors are not lured to some centers by "rural allowance". The Nurses will find no difficulty sticking to their job description; the competition only becomes stiffer and working hours might skyrocket with even lower pay. Many of the health workers who hitherto have a "stable" job in quote will have to find their bearing where destiny leads them.
Patients would be the worst hit because there is no way the income generated by the government hospital be a match to the salary being doled out on monthly basis, so balancing the account book would fall on the patients after several staffs have found their way out hospital.
Another possibility is massive emigration of Nurses and Doctors out of the country, especially, the young and agile ones with consequent depletion of the available workforce which has its own attendant health risk and financial implications.Canadians can tell you better. When labour unions, professional unions and general populace canvass for somethings, I guess they really don't know the ripple effect of achieving those things might cost them in the end.
In summary, the suffering will cut across board. Be prepared!!!

I think the use of the word is about context and the meaning you attach to it. If you check the list you see Pharmacist are the highest paid on that list and everybody other person there are also hospital staffs. You cannot refer to a Pharmacist in Industry as allied because the Pharmaceutical industry is a different entity on it's own. Doctors too are support staffs in Military, NNPC even in Merck in United state: which is a Pharmaceutical company, at best they give some guys consultantancy role to aid clinical trials. My sister, I in no way intend to be codescending.
You know people involve in emergency services in the States are called paramedics whereas many academic institutions refer to people studying other courses in medical school as paramedics.
Health / Re: PHARMACY- The Heart Of The Health Profession. by minkawe: 5:33pm On Jul 28, 2014
@Adeoladrg, A law firm cannot be effective without research assistants, Public Administrators cannot lead without various consultants at their beck and call. It may amaze you to know that secretaries to many Investment Bankers and Venture Capitalist have PH.d in Psychology and without them, most of the popular successful ventures of their bosses would be non-existent. Ma'am, so depending on one another is not peculiar to the health sector, it's cut across sectors.
The problem with health sector is simple: too many eggheads who hitherto before falling into different career path were stars and few years later, only one of them takes all the glory especially within the four walls of the hospital.
Health / Re: PHARMACY- The Heart Of The Health Profession. by minkawe: 5:19pm On Jul 28, 2014
Op, if people in the works department should withdrawal their services the hospital is going to become dysfunctional. What about Industrial production Engineers in both Pharmaceutical and Food Industry, if they withdrawal their services: everything is going to a halt. So, that we have an interwoven society or industrial relations is not in question but rather everybody have a place where they take the lead. Sawoe and Dantata has it's own clinic despite being a Construction Company, hence their health staffs are not major players
Health / Re: PHARMACY- The Heart Of The Health Profession. by minkawe: 5:04pm On Jul 28, 2014
Allied health workers is not a ridicule because we have a union that goes by that name constituting other health workers, and I'm sure NMA was not responsible for that nomenclature. The same way drugs are produced for human consumption so also it is for animals, why are you guys not canvassing for leadership of farms. I think most top notchers in pharmacy are into core production, people working themselves out to bring new drugs to fore, claiming patents.
Pharmaceutical companies in the United States are called "the big pharmacy" because contending with them is like fighting with Coca Cola, with a brand name worthing $40billon in franchise. My question is: how many successful pharmacist are interested in this squabble engulfing the health sector today?, Where are the eggheads that came out top of their class?.
