You're such a brainless twit.
The article mentions the 'Supreme Court' several times. When have you ever heard of a 'supreme court of Sharia'? Is there really any educated adult in Nigeria that does not know what court the term 'apex court' refers to?
Also, what's the logic in assuming a judge named 'Francis' could be a justice in the mythical 'Supreme Court of Sharia'? You're just hearing of this case and suddenly you're 'sure' and 'convinced' she's innocent even when several other law courts have found her guilty, even when she has a confessional statement on file, even when you haven't read a single word of any of the previous judgements!

This has NOTHING to do with Boko Haram and everything to do with the death penalty. Just for the record, I am 100% in support of the death penalty for murderers, kidnappers and their ilk. Hell, i blame the Government. Public firing squad execution is a far better deterrent to killers than hanging.

If I am a brainless twit then I assume you must be thinking through your anus. If you do not understand the satirical jab at the recent events I referenced in my post, then take your bile elsewhere. Abi you like eclairs sweet? undecided

minotaur, whilst there is the minutest chance this may be possible, i think u need to understand the love that a typical HAUSA man has for confectioneries and just how much Kano has to offer. Chances are that if he'd been allergic, he'd have died ages before meeting the accused- We did eat a helluva lot of sweets in Kano and they're in abundance too.

@chukaeze hurling insults @ other posters is neither germane to the issue being discussed nor does it cement your authority as a bastion of knowledge in the matter. Thats the reason it's a PUBLIC forum- You could instead share what you KNOW in the hope that everyone leaves abit wiser than when they got here-# Just saying

Didnt know Hausa men loved confectionaries so much. Dont know their habits as I've avoided the north like the plague. Been there only once!

The report says that she was alleged to have rendered him unconscious by giving him an eclairs sweet and then proceeded to carry out the drowning. So its either she injected the eclairs full of whatever substance which was enough to knock out a full grown man or she undid the whole eclairs sweet and inserted the substance in it. The report says eclairs sweet which I believe means one as it did not say 'sweets'. Besides, toxicological tests like chromatography, etc would have been able to identify exactly which substance was used.  Before you sentence an individual to the death penalty, you have to prove beyond 'reasonable doubt' that she was the culprit, not based on circumstantial evidence as seems to be in this case. Maybe, as a previous poster said, the information is available under the FOI bill. But I doubt if it will contain all this information.

Also, is it the Supreme court of Nigeria or the Supreme Court of Sharia?

And this is the kind of system and law Boko Haram wants to establish in Nigeria! God forbod!!! angry
Crime / Re: Rabi Ismail (actress) To Die By Hanging by minotaur(m): 1:47am On Jul 10, 2011
Eclairs sweet!!! how silly! chocolate, especially dark chocolate, contains a lot of substances which can induce a good number of reactions in an individual. Was that particular eclairs or others from the same manufacturing brand examined for possible toxic substances? Where are the results of the investigation? I do not agree with the verdict.

There is nothing like love. Its just an illusion of the mind. Lets face it, when it comes down to marriage, people marry someone they feel they can be compatible with. Not necessarily out of love. So please, remove love from the equation. shocked
Nairaland / General / Re: Every Human Being Is Almost Equally Intelligent - Blackteeth by minotaur(m): 12:48am On Jan 16, 2011
I am inclined to agree with Sagamite. In George Orwell's classic novel 'Animal farm', the pigs recognized their superior intelligence over other animals which led them to modify the law that 'All animals are equal' into 'All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others'. This caused a lot of controversy as it is causing now so this is an age old argument which obviously lingers to this day. And I believe the forum has done justice to this issue.

Funny video! grin
Nairaland / General / Re: Every Human Being Is Almost Equally Intelligent - Blackteeth by minotaur(m): 4:20pm On Jan 15, 2011
OK guys, can we call a truce? I had settled down to amuse myself reading a list of what women claim to be the most attractive non-physical attribute in a man before the thread quickly degenerated into a brawl between Sagamite and Blackteeth. Intrigued, I followed the thread created for 'bashing' and took my time to read arguments for both sides. While Sagamite and OAM4J make for a compelling argument on intelligence (which I am inclined to agree with), that does not detract from the fact that what Blackteeth claims does have a ring of truth albeit flawed.

Being intellectually superior or not is not the issue but, like in a law court, ability to back up claims with concrete research and hard evidence is key which Sagamite has done an admirable job in providing. However, the exchange of insults across both parties is, in my opinion, infantile and uncalled for. This could have been settled without such language. That one emerges a winner is not the issue. What counts is that we have all been enlightened and the matter can be laid to rest.

PS: I did enjoy the funny little videos by Sagamite marking every word, victory or knockout. Very funny! cheesy

Lopsy:

U can send the piece below to your dear wife.

SHOP LOCK

If you are unmarried, store this as info to use when you do get married. For the married please share with your spouse.

MANY sisters have boasted in my presence of how often they have had to 'lock shop' early, or how they lock shop for weeks, sometimes months, in order to teach hubby a lesson or just to spite him. These sisters are of the impression that they can do as they please, because they have the shop keys. As a result, they lock shop for every little thing, without
giving consideration to the 'shopper'.

There are exceptions to every rule, and opinions will sometimes differ. However, where shop-locking is concerned, my philosophy is that shop should remain open at all times. I agree that teeth and tongue will meet, but shop-locking should never be used as a weapon or tool in conflict resolution. Couples should find suitable ways to solve problems.

It is a fact that not all 'shops' have a common closing time. As a matter of fact when one shop door closes, another is usually right around the corner with a big neon sign that blinks 'OPEN FOR BUSINESS'. Be wary of shops that are open late! The goods they stock are usually illegal, contaminated or expired. Ladies, if you or hubby should get sick or go to
an early grave, let it not be due to consumption of tainted goods from another woman's shop.

Shop-locking adds fuel to fire in most cases. Women should never be fooled into believing that by putting up a 'CLOSED' sign on the shop door they are on their way to problem solving. Women, a hungry man will not allow himself to starve to death. Some will stop at nothing in their quest to satisfy their seemingly insatiable hunger. They will accept anything, whether hot and spicy or cold and icy. Some men will eat food not for taste, but for mere survival. They eat to live, to satisfy a need. That, my friends, is the nature of man.

When shop locks, who suffers more? In reality isn't it the shopkeeper more than the shopper? Sisters, please, I implore you, learn from the immigrants who come and set up shop on our soil, and keep shop open. Stop closing shop for every little thing. Open shop in shop seasons. Open shop on holidays. Open shop late at nights. Open shop during storm and hurricane. Open shop when shop should be open.

Even the well-bred man who eats out and scrupulously cleans his hands and mouth will bring home even a morsel from his street meal. Visualise what could happen when shop reopens for business as usual and some of his contaminated crumbs fall onto your plate. Imagine that you would have contributed to this scenario by locking shop.

A word to the wise is sufficient!

what a beautifully written piece! full of metaphors and allegories. I could not agree more.

infact, the title should be 'THE SHOPPER'. I will personally translate this into a book and sell to all women who 'lock shop'. cheesy

Dual Core:

12:31 am
**phone rings**
Okay D's babe wakes up and picks

Okay D: Baby! It's more than words,
It's more than what you say,
It's the things you do,
oh yeah,

Now that I've tried to,
talk to you and make you understand,
All you have to do,
is close your eyes,
And just reach out your hands,
and touch me,
Hold me close don't ever let me go,

More than words,
is all I ever needed you to show,
Then you wouldn't have to say,
that you love me,
Cause I'd already know,

What would you do?

Okay D's Babe: Are you done?

Okay D: Yes dear, that was from my heart

Okay D's Babe: Ok, make westlife no catch you sha

**Babe ends call and goes back to bed hoping she continues the dream she was having about Okay D banging her pieces**

according to romance novels. a jaw is described as stubborn when it is jutting out or something. dont tell me u've not come acrsoo that before. they describe all sorts of things.
Literature / Re: Reading A Great Book by minotaur(m): 10:29pm On Aug 02, 2010
Truth be told, I will be hard put to remember the names of the books I read. I used to read everything I could lay my hands on- the whole pacesetter series, sidney sheldon, jeffrey archer. Oh, and did u read mallory towers, famous four, adventurous five, secret seven, wishing chair, virtually anything enid blyton.and a host of other novels. then I entered med school and there was barely time for novels.

I just finished this book that looks a little bit like Pillars of the earth. Name is 'Cathedral of the Sea' by Ildefonso Falcones. Set in medieval spain and spanning the time during the Inquisition. Jut like Pillars of the earth just that the setting is different. But its a nice book. would have sent it to you but pity I'm not around. Nothing like sharing the joy of a good book with someone else.
I dont really like series or trilogies because you may not find the following part to read. There are like 3 novels that I'm still looking for the second or 3rd part since childhood. I will gladly give an arm just to lay my hands on one of them.
And yes, they describe their chin. They no get wetin dem no dey write for those romance books

But how come you are so interested in novels? Ladies don't read novels, And even if they do, its usually romance.
Literature / Re: Reading A Great Book by minotaur(m): 5:45pm On Aug 02, 2010
oh ok. I will look for the books and read. Thanks for the recommendation. I hope Evanovich writes good romance and not all these 'run of the mill romance'. Allow me to demonstrate - She meets the guy at first and its hate at first sight. Then she runs into the bathroom to wash her face after which she looks in the mirror. Then the author begins to describe her 'brunette, upward slanting eyebrows with soft brown eyes. An aquiline nos with a cupid shaped mouth begging to be kissed and a stubborn chin. Then they happen to be posted to one remote island or something where the hate turns to love and they have great sex usually described in lurid detail(usu seen in the middle of the book where the coupon is). Then they live happily ever after. bla bla.

Oh the good old days of mills n boon and harlequin romance!

thats why I prefer romance set in medieval ages like pillars of the earth. So, do you PROMISE me these books aint like that?
Literature / Re: Reading A Great Book by minotaur(m): 2:10am On Aug 02, 2010
@tatase: stole a peek at your last posts. seems like you read a lot of novels. So you've also read 'World without End'? As I said, not as good as pillars of the earth but still a great read. I pride myself on having read at least a book by every author alive(lol) but I must say one of the books you mentioned had me stumped. You mentioned a book 'Girl who kicked the Hornet's nest' by one Evanovich or something. Never heard of the author or the book. How is the book?
Literature / Re: Reading A Great Book by minotaur(m): 1:49am On Aug 02, 2010
Hey Tatase. So you've read the book? Greatest book I've ever read. Have you read the sequel? Not as interesting but still a great read. I'm happy to have found this literature section. Away from the madness of that romance section filled with all sorts of nonsense. So, have you read other books? Care to share your thoughts on 'Pillars of the Earth' or any other book you have read?
Literature / Re: Debut Novel, A Heart To Mend, Wins Awards For Author Myne Whitman by minotaur(m): 5:57pm On Aug 01, 2010
cool! went back and read the preview. seems like a romance novel set in Lagos. Reminds me of when I used to read them 'mills and boon', 'silhouette romance', you name it. I used to rip off the cover page so no one will know what I'm reading because people will think you are a bad boy! lol. Anyway, I will see if I can get my hands on a copy of this one. Maybe order the electronic version as it appears to be cheaper.

I saw from your profile that you grow up in Enugu. I spent 1994-2009 in Enugu. And if you are going to be our next Chimamanda, how come your writing under a pen name? No offence intended. Just curious. smiley
Literature / Re: Reading A Great Book by minotaur(m): 5:53am On Aug 01, 2010
If you want to read a great book, then I strongly recommend 'Pillars of the earth' by Ken Follet. You will love it I promise!

Hi, just read your post. I'm an avid novel reader and I must say I've never heard of Myne White. Is he or her Nigerian? The only Nigerian books I've read are all them pace setters far back and some other good ones. Novels written by Nigerian authors lack a good storyline as opposed to foreign novels which I do read a lot.
Checked out the link in your profile. Have you published any novels?

To everybody saying this si a good move, I think you need to have your heads examined! This is one of the daftest moves I've ever seen! Nigeria is trying to play the role of big brother to other African countries when it is in shambles. Have you curbed kidnapping in the country? Have you fished out all the looters in government? Have they even seen the suffering of the common man? Doctors just called of strike the other day after months of strike. PHCN workers just embarked on strike. The country is deteriorating.
So they should put their house in order before helping others. Thats why I believe.
