Hello Nairalanders. DE update, (Cos i need a break from studying). This is application season so you still have time to get things in order before you come here. Random things to note. 1a. Please read EVERY EMAIL and attachment your school sends to you, thoroughly 1b. Apply for Accomodation as you're applying to your different schools. It doesn't cost anything and most schools have long wait times so the earlier you apply, the better. 2. Mail and e-mail are two different things here, learn the difference 3. When students already in Germany give you advice, take action (I knocked out one full semester from my course of study because I listened to advice about course transfer) 4. Attend events in your first few weeks and months, and keep an open mind. NETWORKING is key 5. Apply to Werkstudenten jobs (google it), instead of focusing on cleaning jobs and things like that. Werkstudenten is great for your CV after you graduate. And the pay is pretty good 5a. If you have not applied to more than 100 positions, don't complain that you don't have a job 5b. Translate your CV and cover letter (Lebenslauf und Anschreiben) to german, but make sure you state your actual level of German 6. LEARN GERMAN. I cannot stress this enough. Get a base level of A1 at least before you get here. Even if your school is offering German classes, learn before you get here. Go all the way to C1 if you can. 7. LEARN GERMAN. See above. 8. Keep in mind that it is every man for himself here. No one owes you anything. If anyone is taking their time to help you, that is a huge sacrifice out of their day. It is not your right, so please don't take a mile when offered an inch. Ps: I probably won't be on here for another while so I won't be able to answer any questions. Good luck with your applications. 53 Likes 9 Shares |

olamitodotun14: Go on google and search for their Abuja office. It's got their phone number and you can do everything via phone and email. |

MissNK: Call the Turkish Abuja office and tell them you have a Schengen D visa (student visa) and u wanna book a one way flight. They'll ask you to email your visa and admission letter before issuing a ticket but they can give you a quote without all that. I'm over 26 and I got the discount 14 Likes 4 Shares |

vivianobas: What are these rates you are getting pls? Cos with a student discount Turkish Airlines is about 164k from Lagos and 184k from Abuja to most popular German cities. Are you saying you are getting a lower rate than this? |

oluwafemi88: I used Mawista through Fintiba plus. Although I had to resubmit it (even though I added it to my blocking confirmation during the interview) when I received my AM cos they asked for it again. Got my visa in my hand less than four days after they received my passport and the insurance. 3 Likes |

Visum alert!!! AM: 16th Aug Appt: 19th July, cat B (booked May 6th) Mittweida Transcript: A friend already posted it here Ps: The transcripts here were super helpful. Thanks nairaland. Also Turkish airlines is doing N184kish flights to Germany from Abuja. I think it’s even cheaper from Lagos. Go to Turkish airlines directly and not an agent to get the student discount to get that price. And if they don’t agree, call the Abuja office, they have the option of doing everything online. 29 Likes 2 Shares |

mostwantedguy: No one can tell honestly. Every school's requirement is different. Someone had 1.5 german gpa which is probably 4.5/5 CGPA and still didn't get admission to their program, meanwhile people with lower gpas than you got admission. All I can say is that you should write a solid motivational letter, get your cv together and research you field of interest before you start applications. Unfortunately no one on nairaland can say whether or not you'll be admitted to a program. Only the admissions committee can tell you that 1 Like |

oluwafemi88: You can drop it in person at the embassy or send it to them via courier. They usually supply that information in the Approval Message (AM) where the documents are requested. 1 Like |

CruiseControl: Hello Cruisecontrol, seems like you just joined nairaland so you missed out on the category debate that was going on here in May and June. Sorry about that. At this point my advise would be the same one that has been dropped for the past few days. Get enrollment extension from your school or try to see if you can enroll by proxy. That way you can cancel you current appointment booking and put a much later deadline (I think people are using December now, I'm not sure). With a later enrollment deadline in your new appointment booking, you're still likely to be assigned an interview date. Read the last 40 pages if you can, you'll find more information about what I'm talking about. Also, if you already have a first class Bsc, and you're going for 2nd Bsc, then I believe you may still qualify for Cat A, even with the new rules, but I'm not 100% sure. |

Hi guys, I've read a bit about the N26 online bank and would like to open an account with them, however I'd like to know if there is any majors cons I need to watch out for. I already know that you make deposits at grocery stores and free withdrawals at any ATMs, but I just want to make sure there isn't a big con that I am unaware of before I open the account. Also, can you suggest any other banks in the Chemnitz/Mittweida area in Saxony? Thank you! |

odimbannamdi: Yes you can write A2 without writing A1. Search for 'dates and enrollment Goethe Intituit Lagos'. Go the Goethe Institute Lagos branch website to check for the next date. I think its in October. You can also call the phone number on their website to ask any questions you may have. Keep in mind that only a language certificate from them is recognized by the embassy, and the exam can only be written at their office in Lagos. 1 Like |

Jonemenike2000: There should be a document from Sutor Bank (Fintiba) with a section called transfer and account information. That sheet shows you your transfer information and the amount that needs to be transferred. Just fill out the transfer form with the details, it's pretty straightforward. Depending on your bank here it should take anywhere from 24hrs to a week for it to reflect in your fintiba acct. I'm assuming your dom acct is a Euro acct? |

robinicule: This cracked me up. Ortega is actually a popular Brazilian and Portugese name. In Nigeria, the name is actually Otega, without the 'r', and its an Urhobo name. So it was probably a Portugese guy who works there that signed for it. And others have said the same name received their documents. Uni-assist is at its busiest right now hence the lack of updates but they are definitely working on it. You can always call their direct line if you want to confirm it's arrived. Just have your application number ready. Telephone hours: Monday to Friday | 1 PM to 3 PM (UTC+2). Phone: +49 30 201 646 001 3 Likes 4 Shares |

shantelleasante: The German Embassy doesn't accept any sponsor that is not a physical long-term resident of Germany or a German citizen. They need to be able to hold someone responsible for you, someone under their jurisdiction, in case you default on payments or become dependent on the government. |

MicroMo: Double check the passport number you used to book. If its wrong or typed weird, the system won't assign a date to you. Make sure you begin with 'A' and don't have any space between the numbers. I know someone who had that issue so he re-booked with the right number. |

Ikxim: Under 'brief information' for the Bsc Elec Eng page, they had this line 'Class language: German, some voluntary, creditable classes in English'. That basically means the program is in German. The masters in Elec Eng is also in German. Summary: you'll have to prove probably B2 or C1 level german proficiency to be considered for either the Bsc or Masters program. You should also use google chrome to view these pages as it often gives you the option to translate the webpage. 1 Like |

Sedatylo: I say keep your date jejely...lol. But for real though, Cat A is the preferential category, so if you're going with a cat B appointment letter, they won't turn you back because you are basically overqualified. And with the way dates are all over the place, just hold on to the cat B date you have and go for your interview without issues. 2 Likes |

Temiodeyemi: It's different for each bank. FCMB let me do a little over 9k cash deposit but GTB wouldn't allow more than 1k per week. You'd have to go to your bank and ask. Plus cash deposit limits and transfer deposit limits are sometimes different. |

UltimateTipster: As long as all the schools you are applying to are through uni-assist, all you need to send to uni-assist is one set of your certified copies of your documents and of course you need to scan and upload your original documents to uni-assist. The single set of certified copies you sent are simply for verification from uni-assist that the scanned originals are not fake or falsified or whatever. After scanning the documents, you can assign what you want to the schools that you are applying to, on uni-assist, for each application 2 Likes |

ejighikepat: It's usually a bit cheaper if you just open a Euro dom account, buy from the mallams and send it directly from your account to the BA. The conversion rate between EUR and USD fluctuate within banks, so unless you don't mind risking an extra $100 or $200, it makes sense to open a Euro dom account. Besides, if your're planning on going to Germany for a long time, wouldn't it make sense to have a Euro dom account here for future transactions? 2 Likes 2 Shares |
