African Voices meets Nigerian movie star Genevieve Nnaji, one of Africa’s most successful actresses. Dressed in a Jewel by Lisa piece, Genevieve was interviewed by CNN’s Pedro Pinto. This is one of the most comprehensive interviews given by the actress, she discussed her love for Nigeria, her acting career, Nollywood and lots more. The show will air this weekend 26th to 28th March 2011 – Watch the show at the following times on CNN International: •Saturdays: 0830, 1430 •Sundays: 0800, 2100 •Mondays: 1030, 1730 (all times GMT) CLIP: Genevieve Nnaji chats with Pedro Pinto about Nigeria on CNN International’s African Voices Transcript – Excerpt Nigeria is just like any other place GN – Everything, every aspect of you know, human nature is in every Nigerian. The good, the bad, the ugly, it’s just like another New York. You know, Nigeria is fun to be honest. But we’re not the worst people. All we have people talking about when it comes to Nigeria is crime and fraud, and that’s just a very, very, minute number of people. Nigerians as a whole are very confident people, I believe we’re confident, I believe we’re very resourceful and we are very hospitable when it comes to visitors in the country. PP – When you look at you’re country, what are some of the things you love about it, what are some of the things that you would like to change? GN – I like that as Nigerians as we are, we have some sort of neighbourly love that we don’t understand, we have a way of coming to the rescue of complete strangers, we do have that bond and I think it has to do with our background and how we are raised and how Nigerians in a whole have been made to be morally. It’s like you have a moral duty to your society, to yourself, to your family so it’s like everybody’s business is everybody’s business. It’s a bad thing sometimes, but it does have its good sides. You know, so that is something that we are. We probably don’t know as a people and if we don’t know we should know it now, it’s a good thing. What I don’t like about Nigeria…man, I never diss my own country, man! You know, what ever negativity is in a country is in every other country; it’s in every other part of the world. So, the thing is everyone needs to be treated as individuals and not a collective nation. You don’t judge one person or judge one person by another persons faults. So, I just take every Nigerian the way I see them. I would never live anywhere else to be honest, no. PP – Really? GN – No, I grew up in Lagos, I was born, bred there. I don’t see myself leaving that town anytime soon. I can work anywhere else, but in terms of living, I’m used to Lagos, I’m sorry! |

Ingredients Grounded/Blended Onions Grounded/Blended Tomatoes with tatashi(Boil the mixture till it is dry. Be careful dont get it burnt) Tin Tomatoes Curry Leaves Thyme Groundnut Oil/Olive Oil/Palm Oil Meat/Fish Boil the meat/fish with a cube of maggi, a pinch of salt, grounded pepper and a little chopped onions. After boiling the meat/fish, fry. Get a dry pot and pour in my desired amount of groundnut oil and let it heat(heating is necessary to remove the smell from some oils that have scent and also to get it ready for frying) When the oil is hot, add the onions, curry leaves and thyme to fry first (Do this so that their flavour can 'mix' with the oil) When the onions becomes light brown, add the precook tomatoes and tin tomatoes to the frying mixture and stir for some minutes or until the oil discolorates to red. Then add the meat, water and other ingredients(like maggi, salt, pepper, chicken flavour etc) Taste the mixture, if its ok with you, allow it to boil for some time. Evaporating some of the water so that your stew wont be watery. Bring it down when you are ok with the thickness/water content. After the edit, this should help for starters. Should you need more recipes, check the NL kitchen. |

Lol! Lovely123 pays no mind to the attack. Topic : I had never heard of him until now. RIP nonetheless. It's quite surprising that others survived. Drive carefully! ''‘My friend drove my car, but immediately we realized a car was on the road, he managed to swerve to the left but since it was sudden; my car hit the rear side of the Toyota. Meanwhile, CD was coming behind in a top speed and uncontrollably ran into my car seconds later (an Explorer Jeep)’, the 2011 GUS winner tells NET. CD drove the black Golf 2 that took his life, with his girlfriend Ebere sitting next to him, and a certain Joy and an unknown young man at the back of the car. Only Chijioke died few hours after being treated for supposed head injuries at St. Nicholas hospital while others who were in the car with him are still in at the hospital, recuperating from sustained minor injuries. ‘Ebere had a deep cut on her forehead, which has been stitched and bruises on her body. But Joy had a fracture on her arm but the guy wasn’t hurt much‘, a nurse at the hospital reluctantly told us after much persuasion.'' https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-5tOD-Jc-1Hs/TYuxul1tSkI/AAAAAAAAB1Q/CRwf6J9eRPI/s400/DSC_0439.jpg https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-x8HGuARsf1U/TYuxwhAQy_I/AAAAAAAAB1U/GMEfefrS4FI/s400/DSC_0433.jpg |
Eh ya, sorry to hear that. I was friends with a girl in high school and this girl used to take cool pictures of herself. At some point in time, girls started stealing her pictures and creating fake Myspace pages. I remember on day while I was on Myspace [that was back when I used to use Myspace] I got a friend request from a girl who claimed her name was Ivy [which was my friends' name]. When I looked at the profile I was like "Huh, this isn't the real Ivy. I'm already friends with Ivy so why would she make another page?" It got to the point where my friend [the real Ivy] had to put a disclaimer on her Myspace page telling everyone she was the real Ivy. I swear, people are just useless at time. I mean c'mon is your life so boring that you need to steal other people's pics and pass it off as your own? Sheesh!!!
It's sad but true . . . People are crazy. I'm like, why would a girl have another girl's [who is unknown] photo on her phone or impersonate her? If it were a dude, we would blame it on perversion but a fellow girl? Damnn! That beats my understanding. |
Because there are some creepy people here who will copy and post other people's profile pics to their desktop or will use the pic as their own on another website. Oh and another thing, some people here are just flat out weird!! ![]() Where are you from by the way? I noticed in your profile, you said you're not Nigerian.
Posting your picture online by and large is risky. Weird people are on every site not just NL alone. My picture travelled from Naijapals to a girl's phone in Naija and coincidentally, a family friend saw the pic and called to inform me. I was mad/sad at first but later realized it was all my fault. Someone has used my photo as his/her profile pic on Fb before, I had to report and beg before the photo was deleted. Same thing happened on Naijapals too. Point is . . . Facebook, Myspace etc are as 'dangerous' as NL or other Naija websites. If you don't want your picture abused, don't post. olgabb87:Ugliness, perhaps? Usually, the ugly ones have the fastest fingers, so the best they can do for themselves is remain anonymous. J/K ![]() |
