Fikzzy: Thanks for your response. Wil re-activate the negotiation again. Still on the lookout for cheaper houses though, its just the way to go about it. Are you in melbourne?nope...Brisbane |
Fikzzy: Thanks for your insightful details. Though i still have a few questions as to which is cheaper or better still, more cost effective between homestay and getting a partner who can pair and pay for house rents together which i guess you are doing. Myself and an aussie family have being sending mails to one another trying to negotiate a price, though we finally agreed on $800/month. but i still feel its much though. they reside in Clayton and my campus is in Caulfield. What do u think brov?I can say its a high price but when you factor in nearness to your school campus, that must have been a big consideration on the part of the family (they must have calculated that you will spend less on transport) Did you also negotiate that stationery/toiletries are all inclusive of that $800 per month else that's an expensive agreement. what worked partially for me was to pay the rent for just the room in house(of course with shared bathroom+toilet) and I excluded all those extras from the rent and after a few weeks I was alright(enough Woolworths branded products ). The good thing is you pay monthly right? After the first month and you are still unhappy, nothing stops you from looking elsewhere. |
Omoakin84: Any naija in Queensland please?any better for them? |

londoner: Really? Nigerians or Sudanese?some Sudanese and some Namibians...not seen Nigerians yet. |
I will suggest you go for regional sponsored visa, its much more faster than any other visa class. So your next step is to do your IELTS and after that you apply to any state/regional govt of your chioce for sponsorship. when you get a suitable reply from them, then you can go ahead and do you EOI. best of luck
Just some heads up, while Regional visas are much faster to process, please also be ready to set your mind to reasoning that if you eventually get in and settle there is no transferring to somewhere else just like that. |
UBKtech: Bros, I am NOT a migration consultant. The little I know, I got from the websites posted above. Just take your time to read the materials on that site, ALL the information you need is there. But I believe the first step for you, even before you take IELTS, will be to contact your assessing because the level of English required for your profession will be set by them. This website will help: http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/a-z.htm#a1st: wise words 2nd: wise choice The changes they have brought on are a bit welcoming and funny enough I had created a post from a site i follow with links to the actual content. https://www.nairaland.com/991237/important-changes-australia-student-visa jennykadry: @LondonerTruly, I have not come across any of the types that you have penned down but I KNOW they are abound after all where on earth does a naija person [better or worse] not reside? @londoner: I concur that the journey is a bit too far to be driven by desperation.lol. |
@justwise: one mans meat is another's poison. |
If you’re thinking of applying for study in Australia, you need to be aware of some of the changes introduced by the Australian Government in 2012 that affect student visas and skilled migration. These changes follow the Knight Review(see below) — a report that aims to improve Australia’s policies regarding international students. Earlier in the year, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) made the following changes: It announced plans to introduce a post-study work visa, which allows graduates of bachelor, masters and PhDs to work in Australia for up to four years after they graduate. It allowed student visa applicants to submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based test (TOEFL iBT), the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic and the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) test. Previously, DIAC only accepted IELTS results. It allowed prepaid homestay fees to be included in the financial requirements assessment. It extended the period of time that PhD students can stay in Australia while their research work is being marked. It reduced the financial requirements for Assessment Level 3 and 4 student visa applicants — they will need up to approximately AUD$36,000 less in the bank when applying for a visa. It discontinued the pre-visa assessment (PVA) policy for student visa applicants from Assessment Levels 3 and 4 who were enrolling in a bachelor degree or higher qualification. It lowered the student visa assessment levels for applicants from some countries. Other changes will affect the following: Visa costs A non-refundable visa application charge of AUD$535 now applies to most visa applications (previously AUD$565). Fees do not apply to students sponsored under Commonwealth-approved programs, secondary school exchange students or students affected by the closure of their education provider. Visa cancellation The government plans to abolish the policy that sees student visas automatically cancelled for unsatisfactory attendance, unsatisfactory progress and working in excess of the hours allowed. Although students will still risk visa cancellation over these breaches, each student's case will be assessed by DIAC on an individual basis. In line with the Knight Review, this will ensure a fairer process for students who breach visa conditions. Visa processing for higher education students Student visa applicants who lodge their applications with a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from a participating university in Australia at bachelor, masters or doctoral degree level will be assessed as though they are a lower migration risk (similar to the current Assessment Level 1), regardless of their country of origin. Permission to work Students who were granted a student visa on or after 26 April 2008 have automatic work rights — included in the $535 visa application charge. If, however, you were granted a student visa before this date and wish to apply for work rights, this will attract a fee of $75. Employment restrictions Before March 2012, international students were able to work up to a maximum of 20 hours per week. This has been changed to a more flexible 40 hours per fortnight, meaning you can work 15 hours one week and 25 hours the following week, rather than strictly 20 hours per week. Students can begin work once they have commenced a course of study, and limits only apply when their course is in session (students may work unlimited hours during semester breaks). Work limits do not apply to students completing a masters or doctoral degree. See Flexible working conditions for more information. Skilled migration visas As part of DIAC’s reforms to the skilled migration program, three new points-tested skilled migration visa subclasses have been introduced: subclass 189 (skilled independent), subclass 190 (skilled nominated) and subclass 489 (skilled regional — provisional). These three subclasses consolidate the six existing skilled migration visa subclasses — 175, 176, 475, 885, 886 and 487. The location requirements for the above subclasses have been removed, meaning that applicants may be inside or outside of Australia at the time of application. The requirement of recent Australian study or work experience has also been removed, but this still remains a part of the points test. Applicants must complete an online Expression of Interest through DIAC’s new SkillSelect online service (see below). Skilled migration process DIAC has introduced an online service called SkillSelect, which enables skilled workers interested in migrating to Australia to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI). Once their application is lodged (including their skills and attributes ranked against the points test), intending migrants may be nominated for a skilled visa by Australian employers or government departments, or may be invited to lodge a visa application. Once an invitation is made, you must provide evidence that the information supplied is correct. This service has been designed to address skills shortages and will allow applicants to indicate whether they would like to work in regional areas, where some occupations are experiencing significant shortages. See the SkillSelect website(below) for more information. bayooooooo: Let me get you right. Are you of the opinion that the same Airline should be allowed to operate in face of allegations of non compliance with safety measures even from the staff of Dana? The above highlighted is the NECESSARY action(s) taken when you GROUND airlines and not suspend licences. Well I do not believe that any one is possibly saying the airline should be allowed to operate, i also strongly believe that suspending the license should have not been the logical first step of the image-battered FG. The criteria here is continuity, grounding the similar (or all) planes in their fleet is the quickest and safest solution that should be obtainable till the "panel(s)" FG usually sets up, come back with recommendation(s). Let us ask our selves this. What is the capital punishment IF found guilty AFTER investigations: LICENSE SUSPENSION abi? What is the capital punishment IF found guilty BEFORE investigations: LICENSE SUSPENSION again? HABAAAAA...this is akin to Jungle Justice. The last time I checked; its perhaps very popular opinion amongst nigerians that (<---) reverse thinking rules meaning we are all GUILTY until proven INNOCENT. |
@Goddey2012 Go to the Office in Ikoyi if you are based in Lagos. It was 5k (as at 2010) as TMoni said plus you get it the very same day after about 30mins. |
It actually has a nice feel to it.. Really liking this!! |
Chairman.. yes you will have to do it yourself and submit it to SA with the rest of your application( that is if you application has not gone ahead of this document). ~GoodLuck~ |
ekeroyal: You can only grab the foundation of CORE Java programming in this period if you're good enough and have the time and circumstances to do so. But you may need at least a year to fully grasp core java, except you already have knowledge of C, C++. Even at that Advanced Java is way out of reach. I just hope you've not been getting marketing pulls from training centers like NIIT & APTECH. Seriously, they're the worst places you can go to if you really want to program except you have prior knowledge of this $hits.I don't quite agree with you on the emphasized but every dog has its day and every man also has his say.Anyways that's your opinion. Cut my teeth in both Schools in the last 7years prior to 2009 (for various capacities) and I can proudly whistle a diff. tune. Times might have changed but the underlying principle still remains true. @OP: just as life you can only go as far you push if you are focused and determined. Same with every programming language, it take a 'lifetime of patience+skill+adaptability' to be a good one. 5months is just about 'Enough to Learn Java' as you put it but I can assure you as ekeroyal said, its just to grab the foundation of Core java. ~Cheers~ |

Mister NRC:I replied the above to an existing post on NL, Well, the marketability of your courses depends on the stuff you actually learnt and can implement from it. lond07:You will be surprised that the degree is recognised by recruiters atleast those ones with good exposure to international standards but like i have said earlier, just forget NYSC if you want to embark on the online course option(you might probably want to apply for the exempt option afterwards, ). For the schools that offer online degrees, UK schools( try Hertsfordshire: they have been having good reviews. Try Coventy and Open University UK, they are also very good. ALso try to go visit the British Council for more information, they will organise the exams and "sometimes" the course-wares.(atleast in my case they did) |
lond07:I kid you not! if you get an 'online' degree from 'online courses', just be sure that you have crossed the line barrier for NYSC certificates. This is because the Ministry of Education refuses to recognise anyone who did an online top-up for degree for any reason whatsoever except unless you have a student visa in your kpali(which you will still present as documentation). But having crossed out that obstacle, employers are ready to employ given that you have that foreign degree and you must be good at what you do else, no room for lazy man. lond07:All man must start from somewhere. POSTER was advised to get his hands dirty by sharpening the skills gained in HND. With the plethora of information on the internet these days, he can be in collaboration with up-to-date CS syllabi and information.(Assuming PCHN is operating in a humanly manner.) get like-minded friends/colleagues and start something with them, you never can tell where it will lead. you dont need to wait for the opportunity, you have to make something happen. I was in the same shoes but i managed to surround myself with some of the best heads NIIT could offer and we did some preety amazing stuff which hasn't been rivalled in that part of Lag (atleast in the last 5years) before all-man relocated to greater things. |
Tokotaya:Bros so you sabi that corner sef ![]() |
Don't you just love the way politicians are let loose and they somehow manage to make Nigerians whinge? By the way, na today 'yanch' dey for back? All Talk no action. |

This has made my morning joyful!!!! I dont know what transpired between the ICPC/EFCC and the GTB, but I got a call from someone at the ICPC and then like 8-GTB staff/managers called me to apologize rainfall and deepwater ![]() Her reply went something like this: sir you know, now that we have issued you a Dollar mastercard, at least the next time you go abroad, for example to the UK, you dont need to carry cash", etc. Then the silly lady even asked me if I had family members in the UK.?hahahahahahahahahahaha |
). The good thing is you pay monthly right? After the first month and you are still unhappy, nothing stops you from looking elsewhere.

Take it or fi le be!
and you assumed its not identifiable by "Nigerian"
