Good morning sabi mama. Please how do i dress my wound ...at tge hospital they onky use methylated spirit to cleana it ,use a pieece of clothing to cover it and plaster it back i was t9ld i shd repeat the process every 2 days interval ...how long will it take for me to stop using plaster on tye wound and how long does it take to heal.....thanks ...

Cc: mitchyy
My plaster was removed before i left the hospital and i was told to clean with cotton wool and methylated spirit.

But i heard spirit is too harsh, so i cleaned with cotton and savlon diluted in water.

I swipe with cotton wool from the middle to one end, dispose it. Then use another one to swipe from the middle to the other end. I repeat this process thrice and do it 3 times a day.

After swiping i lay down and allow it to air dry.

Hope this helps

I wanted to step out for some minutes so i whipped out my breast pump i haven't used for two months now and pumped some milk down for dh to give Hansel.

You won't believe my boy rejected the bottles. Despite the hunger he pushed the bottles away. I was shocked because he used to take them. But immediately i brought out bweast, he grabbed it.

I dunno how i'm going to re-introduce him to bottlefeeding. I'm in hot soup. Lol

Mama'a do you have an over active or hyper active baby? Hope am not alone.
You're not alone at all. I always dread bath time with mine because i have to be super careful else he'll hurt himself. Its either he is climbing and kicking the bucket of water away or trying to walk when i'm washing his bum.

Just make sure you have it all on camera... cheesy

Gud day all.

My 3wks old baby has cattarh/blocked nose nd is finding it difficult to breath well. Pls what should i do?

Pls help me on how to cure my own cough nd cattarh .
Its really frustrating to see your LO battle with blocked nose. I almost cried for him.

Try not to expose your LO too much but at the same time, let your LO receive some fresh air to help clear the lungs.

I used silverbird eucalyptus oil. Using it directly is very very harsh for babies, so i mixed a little drop with half bottle of baby oil to dilute it and was dropping it on his fontanelle morning and evening. Using it undiluted can burn his head.
I also sprinkle one or two undiluted drops of the eucalyptus oil on his bib and use some for steam inhalation.

Then i rub shea butter(ori) on his back, chest and nose.

With time, his nose cleared totally.

Mitchyy i still awaits your epistle...
Hahaha. It's not an epistle o. I just tried to put down the few things i learnt from my experience recovering from a csection.
Here you go:

Donts

- Don't use a postpartum belt or abdominal binder until 6weeks. And that also depends on your doctor. If he thinks you're okay and healed enough to use it, then go ahead. Your health is more important than your appearance.

- Don't skip the painkillers you were given after the operation. They will help you manage any pain you will experience after the operation.

- Don't drive immediately after your c-section. Wait till at least 6weeks and give your body time to heal to some extent.

- Don't give up on breastfeeding. Breastfeeding after csection can be very exhausting. Yes, the first 3weeks was hell for me. I hated breastfeeding but i had made up my mind to be on EBF for my baby because my milk was flowing very well, so i had to no excuse to give formula.
I started experimenting with different positions and i found the one that was comfortable for me.

- Don't start exercising until about six to eight weeks after your c-section. I learnt that it generally takes about 6weeks for your tissues to heal. Confirm from your doc too and let him give you the go ahead before you start.

- Don't bend or lift anything heavier than your baby for the first few weeks, to avoid putting a strain on your stitches.

- Don't do it all alone. Accept help and let friends and family help you around the house. In most cases our mums or mil are always around to help out. If they are unavailable for some reasons, find someone else to be with you.

- If you live in a duplex, don't spend too much time going up and down the stairs. When i went home to be with my parents, i was banned from going downstairs. The few days i stubbornly climbed the stairs several times, i ended up in pains.

- Don't hunch your back when walking. I fell victim to this until i learnt otherwise. Straighten your body. It will help you recover faster because it strengthens your tummy muscles.

- Don't stress your body with a sitz bath. It's majorly for those who delivered vaginally and had an episiotomy, a tear. Don't worry yourself. Your vjay is still in good shape. I guess its our compensation for all the csection wahala.

Dos

- Always check your wound. I use a standing mirror to take a look at mine every morning. That way you can tell if there is any issue. That is how i discovered my incision was opening up again.

- Make sure that you only wear comfortable loose fitting clothes for the first few weeks to avoid it rubbing against sore region of your body.
In my own case, i stuck with gowns and high waist pants. I even shopped for high waist lingerie so it won't rub on my incision.

I'll update the list as i remember more

Good moning sabi mama ...i have been peeping for a while..please i want to ask a questin as a ftm...do they still give babies drugs after birth..and also how long does it take for the cord to fall off...please note i had my baby thru cs thus i didnt go home until after one week which my mil says its to late to use herb to remove it....

Also what are the DoS and donts after Cs....can i do hot water sitting and how long do i have to wait to wear tight clothing.....

Just a novice ....please orientate..
Some hospitals give babies drugs after birth, others don't. My hospital is totally against the practice of giving healthy babies drugs. Personally, i would advise you don't, except your baby is ill.

My babies cord took 2weeks to fall off. Just clean regularly and it'll fall off. Don't be tempted to apply anything other than what you were instructed at the hospital.

For the Dos and donts after CS, give a minute as the explanation is quite elaborate. But pls NO hot water sitting aka sitz bath.

Big authors come there. We once had JP Clark and Woke Soyinka to address the children at Lagos Book Fair. This year, Ake Arts and Book Festival is bringing in other big guys.
That was huge!!! I'm wondering why i haven't heard of this event all this while. Is it just kiddies books that are exhibited at the fair?

Pls help me urgently,i havent eaten since last night and has been vomiting i vomitted all through the night each time i try to eat i vomit thrice what am eating. Pls what can i do to keep food down cos am feeling very weak already. am 11weeks today
If you've been vomitting and feeling weak already, you're probably getting dehydrated at this point so you need fluids first of all.

Try taking water in by chewing ice cubes. Also trying taking light peppersoup. Take it bit by bit.

Don't try eating anything heavy else you'll throw them up.

In my own case, i was trying every single meal i craved for until i found the ones my system accepted and i stuck to them. I craved for garri soaked in ice cubes with beans. I ate it all day as it was the major meal my body didn't react to.

Good day,

I have a four-day old daughter who might have this, will check when I get to the hospital later. Why I'm here is that doctors requested 4 tests and one shows presence of jaundice of up to 12.1 or so, the hospital's photolamps are all occupied so we were referred to another hospital. Everyone is saying we use unripe pawpaw soaked in water that it flushes out the jaundice, everyone around me I told even experienced mothers, I need advice please as going to another hospital will cost a fortune, I'm yet to settle their delivery bill as normal delivery caused fetal stress at 3cm dilation so she had to be operated.

I'm the father by the way, mother is still weak from CS

Thanks
If the hospital recommended phototherapy then it might not be a mild case of jaundice. Those methods majorly work for mild cases.

I had same issues but my baby's own was mild and my mum used one leaf to bathe him, and was always taking him under early morning sun. It cleared after some weeks.

Island maternity as recommended by Onegai is okay. Their services is affordable. You can check them out if you're in Lagos.

Just calm down and don't fret so you can think clearly. My husband was once in your shoes and he almost ran mad. I saw how stressed he was and it affected my bp. So try and be calm and locate affordable hospitals.

God will see your family through this phase.

I'll do you a solid. Lagos Book fair holds around this period or the next few months. Most of the publishers will be there. However, they do not give discounts (I have asked and begged!! cry but you do get a chance to meet some of the authors). Also, Ake Arts and Book fair is happening in November in Abeokuta and it's a very nice program. Good place to get books from the publishers directly.
Really??

Wowwww! I need to be there. I'm a certified book lover. Will search for info on the date and location. I'm sure it will be a super-interesting experience. Yayyyy!

You're not supposed to rub it after. Max is to place something pretty cold against the swelling. I think the lump is normal, but I'm not sure.
Yes, i knew that already and i mentioned in my post that i didnt rub it. I even tried not to let anything touch it.
I just pray it goes down and the scar fades away

Hello mamas. Pls has anyone else experienced this? My LO still has a very tiny lump on the immunization site on his left lap from the 6weeks injection. That spot is also dark and left a scar.
He is taking the 10weeks immunization tomorrow and i'm just bothered.

Could it be carelessness from the nurse? Because i can remember the place was very rowdy and the woman wasn't taking her time to give babies injection. Immediately she removes the needle, she will just tap you to get up fast, without giving you time to press down on the site.

Should i have used a private hospital? I also didnt rub or press the site after i got home. I just let it be.
