Chris Ndulue, Arik Air Managing Director/Executive Vice President comments:

Travel › Air Nigeria Grounded by miteolu(op): 10:09am On Jun 08, 2012
Air Nigeria confirms that its domestic and regional flights have been disrupted following a strike action embarked upon by a section of its aircraft pilots and engineers under the umbrella of the Nigerian Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE).

The unfortunate action which is coming without due exploitation of the laid down avenues of negotiations have led to a temporary grounding of our domestic and regional operations. The strike action is uncalled for and a cheap blackmail by NAAPE as only one hour notice was given before the strike action was embarked upon.

Politics › F.G Needs N20.6trn To Provide Adequate Power by miteolu(op): 4:13pm On Jun 07, 2012
The federal government may require about N20.6 trillion to generate adequate power supply in the country, the assistant general consumer services, Kano electricity business company, Alhaji Abdulazee Amoo has said.

Disclosing this at a public sensitization forum on Multi year tariff order (MYTO) which was held at Federal secretariat Dutse, said the federal government wants to partner with the private sector because government alone cannot fund the sector.

The assistant general manager explained that government realized the need for investors from within and outside the country to invest in the power sector in order to compliment the government efforts in restoring steady power supply in the country.

Alhaji Amoo further explained that under the new tariff of power sector, the life line or lower customers will enjoy subsidy, adding that meter maintenance fees as well as estimation billing has been revoked under the new tariff..

Said he “ The national electricity regulatory commission (NERC) has directed power holding company to ensure that they register all power consumers in the country within the next 18 months.

Commending the Jigawa office of NOA, Alhaji Amoo said the public sensitization forum was part of the enlightenment campaign to sensitize the public on the new tariff.

In her keynote address, the state director of NOA, Hajiya Tani Umar said the multi-year tariff order popularly known as MYTO was a regulation that comes into force in 2008.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Villarreal Coach Dies 1 Day After Taking Job by miteolu(op): 1:15pm On Jun 07, 2012
Villarreal coach Manuel Preciado died of a heart attack Thursday one day after joining the team. He was 54.

The team said Preciado was in Valencia when he was stricken early Thursday.

"We are all shocked," Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said from Poland, where he is preparing his team for the European Championship.

"We were having breakfast and we were all taken back by the news," he told Spanish radio Marca. "He was a caring person and a great sportsman. He was a man of football that was an honor to coaching."

Preciado played for several clubs, including Racing Santander, and had previously coached teams including Racing Santander, Levante, Murcia and Sporting Gijon.

He had a one-year deal at Villareal, which was relegated from the Spanish league last season.

Villarreal's website said the team had expressed its condolences to Preciado's family.

Preciado's death led to an outpouring of support from Spanish clubs, coaches and players.

"We all burst into tears on hearing the news," Mallorca coach Joaquin Caparros said. "I was so happy for him joining Villarreal. I am sure he would have taken it back to the first division."

A native of the Cantabria region in northern Spain, Preciado began coaching in the third division in 1995. He led Levante from the second to the first division in the 2003-04 season, and also guided Sporting back to the top flight for the first time in 10 years in 2007-08.

He coached Sporting for five and a half seasons before a poor start last year led to him being fired midway through the season. Sporting did not recover and was relegated, along with Villarreal and Racing.

While never finishing better than 10th in three seasons, Preciado's modest Sporting dealt Madrid manager Jose Mourinho his first home loss in league play in nine years through an unexpected 1-0 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu in April 2011.

Preciado was a fan favorite in Gijon and one of the most charismatic managers in Spain, known for his frank and entertaining manner of addressing the media and players alike.

Preciado's 232 games for Sporting was second only to Jose Diaz Novoa's 282. Sporting said Preciado's name was "written into the history of the club in golden letters."

As a player, he also had stints with Mallorca, Alaves, Ourense, Linares and Gimnastic de Torrelavega

See corruption. Will every subscribers get kobo out of this N1.17bn
Nairaland General › Telecom Operators Must Pay N1.17bn Fines, Or… – NCC by miteolu(op): 9:44am On Jun 06, 2012
EARLY last month, the four top telecoms firms in the country – MTN, Airtel, Etisalat and Globacom were fined a total N1.17 bn by the industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, for not meeting stipulated quality of service benchmarks called key performance indicators.

A deadline by which the fines must be paid was set, which expired last May 25th, with a default fine of N2.5m per day until the fines are paid. The telcos, in moves that suggest unwillingness to pay the fines fought back, and in several advertorials listed their ordeals, chief of which include self-generated electricity and damage to business infrastructure which they said is militating against attainment of stipulated KPIs. Observers have keenly watched developments, especially since expiration f the May 25 deadline by which none of the telcos have paid.
What if it is not paid?
The point is that there are specifications in the guidelines that after the deadline for the sanctions there is going to be N2.5 million for each day of default and we are already in the default period and it is expected that the sanction as well as the default penalties will have to be paid.
The funds you are charging them are they going to be paid to the consumers or to government through the NCC?

Sports › Hazard: I Came To Chelsea To Win Trophies by miteolu(op): 10:03am On Jun 05, 2012
The 21-year-old expressed his delight in joining the reigning European champions, citing his ambition to win further silverware as a reason for his decision.

"It's a dream come true for me," he told the club's official website. "I can't wait to get started and for the season to start so I can meet my new team-mates, the supporters and all the people who are involved.

'I want to play as many games as possible, score as many goals as possible and win a place in the hearts of the supporters.

"Ultimately, for a player it's all about winning things; I want to win as many trophies as possible, which is another reason why I came here as Chelsea have been winning things for a long time now, and I hope to win many more during my time here."

Hazard had been strongly linked with a move to Manchester rivals United and City and had

previously hinted at such a switch.
Hazard managed 21 goals and 18 assists in 48 games for Lille last campaign, helping fire them to a third-placed finish in Ligue 1.
The new Blues man also revealed that his Lille team-mate and former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole had tried to persuade him to join Roberto Di Matteo's side.
