Former Anambra State governor , Mr . Peter Obi , who has been selected as the running mate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party is an unconventional African man, at least in terms of his family size . As he emerged PDP ’ s vice presidential candidate , here are five things you should know about him . 1. Peter Obi has only two children. Obi , who was governor from 2007 to 2014 has a daughter and a son . According to Wikipedia , their names are Gabriella Nwamaka Frances Obi, who is two years older than her brother, Gregory Peter Oseloka Obi. For a man from his generation and his cultural background, it ’ s a bit unconventional that Mr. Obi has only two children. 2. Obi, who was born on July 19, 1961 , graduated from the University of Nigeria , Nsukka in 1980 with a degree in Philosophy . 3. He is married to former Miss Margaret Brownson Usen. 4. Obi spent eight years and seven months as the governor of Anambra State . He was sworn in as governor of Anambra State on 17 March 2006 . However, on 2 November 2006 , he was impeached after seven months in office . He took the matter to court, he won and was reinstated on 9 February 2007. Another election took place in 2007, that brought in Andy Uba . Obi went to court to argue that he didn’ t complete his four- year tenure, the court agreed with him and said his tenure ought to end on March 2010 . After his dramatic first term, Obi contested for the position of governorship again and won a second term in office , which ended on 7th of March 2014 . 5 . He was appointed the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission by former President Goodluck Jonathan in April 2015 .

There is a growing aggreement between Nigerians the recent APC media onslaught on the person of Peter Obi the PDP Vice President candidate may not be unconnected to his keynot address at a policy dialogue session organized by Ripples Nigeria on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at the Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos. The dialogue which had as its theme: ‘Rebuilding Trust in a Divided Nigeria.’ Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, was quoted to have said the outrage over the jumbo pay of senators would be child’s play if he lifts the lid on what State Governors take home in allowances and emoluments. “You all were shouting when you learnt that senators take home N13.5million monthly and N200million for constituency projects. If I tell you what Governors take home, you won’t be able to take it”, Obi said with a rigorous shake of the head. “Tell us!” the audience yelled. Again, Obi shook his head as he paced the podium, lips zipped for a minute. He told his audience that an American lawmaker takes home a paltry N50million annually. Waste in government Obi who was head of Fidelity Bank before his foray into politics, also painted a disturbing picture of the waste culture in government circles. “As Governor, my convoy wasn’t more than four vehicles. I didn’t understand why I had all those cars following me. So one day, I put an end to all of that. You have all these vehicles running around and creating confusion! “There was a fuel dump in government house. And I asked them, what is the fuel dump for? And they said the fuel dump is a contingency plan for when there is petrol scarcity. Shut it down, I ordered. If there is petrol crisis, we’ll join the queues like everyone else. “They also told me that they were going to buy bulletproof cars. Bulletproof cars for what? Anyone who wants to kill you, if you alight from that car, he’ll still kill you. “And then you have all these motorbikes riding ahead of the convoy. If we don’t have the outriders ahead of the convoy, won’t the convoy get to its destination?”, he asked rhetorically and visibly irritated. Debt free Enumerating what else he did to eliminate official waste during his spell as Governor, Obi said; “I did not borrow one kobo as Governor. I have mentioned the banks . Go and find out from them if I’m lying. “During my time, I asked them why the Governor of Anambra should have a house in Abuja. I shut the house and the idea down. “When I first assumed office as Governor, I had this ambulance following my small convoy around with two Doctors and I asked why. 'In case there’s an accident', I was told. Well, if there’s an accident, I’ll be taken to a hospital like everyone else. Stop following me around! "Those who know my house in Onitsha will tell you that even till this moment, I don’t have anyone manning the gates of my house. You can just drive in as a visitor. No one will kill you if you are doing the right thing. Obi also lamented that the Nigerian system is tailor-made to frustrate anyone with the best of intentions. Followership “I keep telling people that if they bring the best leaders from the west here, they will fail. The problem with Nigeria isn’t not too young to rule or too old to rule. We just want people with capacity. We want creators of wealth not people who share money. “Followership is even worse. We have become insanely complacent. A comedian joked the other day that we now have a situation where political leadership is now merging with comedy. We have lawmakers who are comedians. But governance should be serious business”, he said. “Even if we did it wrong yesterday, can’t we correct it today?”, he asks in his defense. Blame game Potshots were also aimed at incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari. Obi doesn’t get why the incumbent is still blaming his predecessor for Nigeria’s woes. “He campaigned to solve problems and he’s now telling us about the rot he met there. What were you expecting to meet there? That is why we elected you and you campaigned to fix problems, right?” Many are of the opinion the embattled Kaduna Governor and party stalwarts who many State residents accused of gross corruption, mismanagement and underperformance may have teamed up with the APC villa cabals who didn't take his outbursts on the forum lightly and may be out to destroy his squeaky clean image. https://www.tribuneonlineng.com/30979/

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Peter Obi, on Saturday called on Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State to stop making hate speeches that will divide and destroy the country Obi said this while reacting to El Rufai’s tweet describing him as “a tribal bigot.” El-Rufai had in a tweet claimed that Obi supported his (El-Rufai’s) arrest by the Department of State Services, DSS in 2014 on the ground that “El-Rufai has no business being in Anambra State as it is not Katsina State.” Obi, while answering questions from journalists on the matter at a youth programme in Nnewi, Anambra State on Saturday, expressed shock at statement from El-Rufai. According to him, he would only pray for El-Rufai and encourage him to concentrate on doing those things that will better lots of Nigerians rather than engage in hate speeches. He said, “This is suggesting that it was what he sat down to think of rather than thinking about how to solve the many problems plaguing the country. “What His Excellency, Gov. Nasir Ahmad El Rufai said about me has been brought to my attention. I believe that as we grow older and are saddled with more responsibilities, we are expected to become circumspect in our thinking and avoid recklessness in our speeches and utterances. “How does the circumstance he referred to relate to bigotry to warrant such a label? “All I do for people like El-Rufai is to pray for them and encourage them to concentrate on doing those things that will better the lots of Nigerians rather than engage in hate speeches that will divide and destroy the country. “At this difficult times in our country, when thousands of our brothers and sisters across ethnic divide are killed all over the country, including innocent citizens in Kaduna state; millions of our children from all the parts of the country are out of school; millions of Nigerian youths from all the parts of the country are without jobs, our pre-occupation, especially among those that are in government should not be making reckless speeches. “What our leaders should be doing today is seeking solutions to the numerous problems of our dear country. “I am aware that during the said election he referred to, security agents merely restricted his movement because he had no business being in Anambra as I would not have been in Kaduna on an election day.” The former governor of Anambra State further appealed to Nigerians, especially those in positions of authority, to avoid what he called “the dominance of the vice of hate” http://dailypost.ng/2018/11/10/will-el-rufai-calling-tribal-bigot-peter-obi/

By Ben Agande, Kaduna – The Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna Diocese, Most Rev. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, has warned that the challenge in the northern part of the country is not that of Christians versus Muslims but a war with “fanatics, kidnappers, terrorists and opportunists who are criminals in every sense of the word, killing and maiming innocent Nigerians regardless of religion, ethnicity and political leanings”. In a homily at the funeral mass for the late traditional ruler, the Agom Adara, Mr. Galadima Raphael Maiwada, held, yesterday, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Kachia, Ndagoso accused government of failing in its responsibility to protect lives and property. According to him, the present crop of leaders in the country has failed in its primary duty of protection of lives and property, adding that government’s deliberate policy of exclusion is creating distrust and unfavorable environment for peace to thrive. “Let me reiterate once again that the challenge we have at hand in the country, especially in the northern part is not a war between Christians and Muslims. No. Christians and Muslims are not at war with each who other. Our country is at war with fanatics, kidnappers, terrorists and opportunists who are criminals in every sense of the word, killing and maiming innocent Nigerians regardless of religion, ethnicity and political Leanings”, he said. “Therefore those charged with the constitutional duty of protecting and securing our lives and property should and must go after them.” “To do this effectively, they must listen to and respect public opinion and feeling otherwise, their peace- making efforts will be fruitless as long as hostility, contempt and distrust continue to divide the people and put them in opposing camps. “If lasting peace is to be achieved the first condition is to remove the causes of dissension among the different sectors of the society, such as excessive economic inequalities, disregard for people’s rights, systemic and deliberate policies of exclusion, distrust etc. “This calls for a change of heart and deliberate efforts at promotion of common good. If we must achieve lasting peace in our dear state, there is an urgent need for coordination of efforts of all stakeholders, namely political, religious and traditional rulers.” The late traditional ruler, killed by kidnappers at the point the ransom demanded on him was being delivered, was buried amidst right security provided by regular and plain clothes security agents. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/11/we-are-at-war-with-fanatics-kidnappers-kaduna-bishop-2/ |

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party , Mr . Peter Obi, on Saturday asked governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State to stop making inflammatory statements that could incite hate amongst Nigerians. Obi was reacting to El Rufai ’ s tweet that Obi is “a tribal bigot.” El Rufai had tweeted that Obi stopped him from moving around Anambra State during the governorship election in the State in 2010. But Obi while answering questions from journalists on the matter at a youth programme in Nnewi, Anambra State , said he was shocked to read such an outburst of hate from El Rufai , especially when “the statement came unprovoked . He said, “This is suggesting that it was what he sat down to think of rather than thinking about how to solve the many problems plaguing the country. “What His Excellency, Gov. Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation has said those members still in the All Progressives Congress, APC, have ‘no brain’ Fani-Kayode stated this while reacting to a statement by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, in which he described Peter Obi, the running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar as a “religious bigot.” El-Rufai recalled that Obi supported his (El-Rufai’s) arrest by the Department of State Services, DSS in 2014 on the ground that “El-Rufai has no business being in Anambra State as it is not Katsina State.” Reacting to El-Rufai’s statement, Fani-Kayode insisted that those left in the ruling party have ‘no brain as it has been replaced with ‘Cow Dung’ The former minister tweeted: “There isn’t a single thinking brain left in the PDP”-@elrufai “I do not want to be too harsh on an old friend but I will say this: those that insist on remaining in the APC despite its glaring failures and incompetence have NO brain at all: they have replaced it with cow dung. https://politicsngr.com/just-six-governors-implicated-oshiomholes-dss-arrest/ |
if whipping up religious sentiments is what they refer to as being smart, then I think Nigeria is finished. Nigerians are not stupid, they knw the party that told them to give up their lands or be slaughtered. They knw those who in the past 3 years have shown via their body language and ulterances that Cows are more valuable than Nigerian citizens. |
Ddaji:There is no single politician in Nigeria that has Peter Obi records when it comes to selfless public service. You guys cant spoil his name or image. Its only those who are moved by Religious bigotry that would. listen to the many lies you tell on this platform. 1, APC values Cows over human lives, fact, 2, Its a lie that Obi demolished Mosques. 3. APC has nothing to show so they want to turn the election to a religious war. Bit in the end They shall surely fail. |

APC Is A Miyetti Allah Party That Values Cows Over Humans. John Akperashi, a former chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, says the average Benue man sees the APC as “a Miyetti Allah party that has a preference for cows over human beings”. Therefore, Akperashi advised Samuel Ortom, Governor of the state, to seek an alternative platform to actualise his second term aspiration, otherwise he would lose woefully if he contests under the APC platform. Speaking with journalists in Makurdi, capital of the state, on Wednesday, he also said all indices are against the Governor, who “has no structure in the party”. He maintained that the APC at present cannot win any election in the state following the massacre of Benue people by suspected herdsmen since January. “To an average Benue person, the APC is seen as Miyetti Allah party that has a preference for cows over human beings,” Akperashi said. “The party lacks credibility and is insensitive to the plight of the people. “I know very well that Governor Ortom is not comfortable in the APC. If he is pretending, then that is his own problem. It is either he is just playing along or playing to the gallery. He is just buying time to take his decision and at the appropriate time, he will just leave. “But he has the resources so he can do whatever he likes at any time but some of us are still growing. [Looking at] what is obtainable in the APC, I do not see him winning elections.” Akperashi added that the Governor, should he switch parties, has a bright chance of securing his second term because of his stance against the killings in the state, which prompted the enactment of the anti-open grazing law. “Yes, he has done his best and I give him kudos for that,” he said. “I have said it often that put Suswam and Ortom, he has done well more than the former in terms of protecting the lives of his people and fighting herdsmen because of the law he collaborated with Benue people to sign.” Explaining his resignation from the APC, he lamented that all the people who followed Governor Ortom to APC from PDP have been pushed aside, including the Governor. “In everything, the people have pushed us aside and when I saw all these things, I told the Governor but I could see that there was nothing he could do because even in his local government, Guma, the persons elected during the ward and local government congress were not his loyalists. “His hands were tied. No single person who followed him from PDP to APC had his interest protected. I told him that as a Governor you can have your way but for me, I cannot continue to be part of this arrangement where I will be doing political work and someone else will be taking the glory.” https://secure.saharareporters.com/2018/06/15/apc-miyetti-allah-party-values-cows-over-humans-says-ex-benue-chieftain |
Giving land for ranching better than death – Presidency ON July 4, 2018 8:09 AM / IN Headlines, News, Trending / Comments .Adds being alive is better than ancestral attachment to land •History will judge us harshly if killings persist — Dogara •Insecurity threatens 2019 elections — CAN By Emmaunel Aziken and Dennies Agbo ABUJA —The Presidency, yesterday, charged those against the administration’s ranching and colony programmes for herdsmen to rethink, noting that they are better off living with the ranches and colonies than dying through the persisting conflicts. RANCHING Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, speaking on an AIT morning programme in response to a question on ancestral attachments to land said: “Ancestral attachment? You can only have ancestral attachment when you are alive. If you are talking about ancestral attachment, if you are dead, how does the attachment matter? The exhortation from the Presidency came on a day Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, said that history would be harsh on the present administration if it failed to stop the mass killing of innocent Nigerians. This is even as the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the 17 Southern states yesterday said the insecurity pervading the country, particularly in the North Central zone, poses grave danger to the conduct of next year’s general elections. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, gave the admonishment as he alleged a conspiracy by alleged critics of the administration to frustrate moves towards resolving the crises in the country. Adesina, who spoke on AIT morning programme, said it was wrong to describe the attacks against farmers as one directed against Christians. He said: “Hundreds have been killed in Zamfara, are they Christians? People have been killed in Birnin Gwari, are they Christians? “What is happening is criminality, pure and simple, and it must be brought to an end. Government has a big role to play in this but the people themselves have a role to play.” Noting what he described as a campaign to stop the implementation of the administration’s plans to check the farmers-herders conflict, Adesina said: “Some people are saying don’t use government money to build ranches. If truly they don’t have lands, that is fine, but remember that Kogi State offered 15,000 hectares of land for cattle colony and in the midst of that offer vicious attacks were unleashed. “In Plateau State, where we had the recent orgy of killings, the government has offered land for ranches and I tell you that some people are interested in this thing not being resolved.” Better alive than a dead land owner —Adesina Asked about the ancestral attachment by the people of those states to their lands, he said: “Ancestral attachment? You can only have ancestral attachment when you are alive. If you are talking about ancestral attachment, if you are dead, how does the attachment matter? “The National Economic Council that recommended ranching didn’t just legislate it, there were recommendations. “So, if your state genuinely does not have land for ranching, it is understandable; not every state will have land for ranches. But where you have land and you can do something, please do for peace. What will the land be used for if those who own it are dead at the end of the day?” Adesina further said the administration is doing its best to ensure peace throughout the country. “There are different theatres of crises in the country and you may look at each theatre with its peculiarities. In the Middle Belt, it has its own peculiarities and what is the peculiarity of that, Farmers-Herders conflict. What has the government done? “It has sent in security agencies starting with the police, later troops, later different operations by the military,” he said. History will judge us harshly if… — Dogara Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, said yesterday that history will be hash on the present administration if it failed to stop the mass killing of innocent Nigerians. Dogara, who stated this while welcoming members back from the Eid- El- Fitr holiday, said the killing of innocent Nigerians should be stopped immediately. He said: “History will have a harsh verdict for us as a government if we fail to live up to this responsibility and it will not matter if we succeed in other areas. “Unfortunately, the stark reality now is that our citizens are fast losing confidence in our security system. “This must not be the case. Before we ebb to the realm of anarchy, we must rise as true representatives of the Nigerian people to salvage the situation and defend our hard won democracy.” Dogara said the unresolved issue of rampant killings of defenseless people, including innocent and vulnerable children and women, in various parts of the country, called for sober reflection. He added that there must be more concerted efforts by the National Assembly to exploit all its constitutional powers and privileges to ensure the protection of lives and property in the country by security agencies. Insecurity threatening 2019 polls — CAN Also yesterday Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the 17 southern states said the rise in insecurity pervading the country, particularly in the North Central zone, posed grave danger to the conduct of next year’s general elections. CAN in the region did not only bemoan the menace but also said it was a sign of total collapse of the security architecture in Nigeria. It said with such situation, the conduct of the 2019 election was under serious jeopardy. CAN spoke as reactions continued to trail the killing of over 100 residents of Plateau State by suspected herdsmen. Secretary of the group, Dr. Joseph Ajujungwa, who spoke to newsmen in Enugu, said the Christian body was worried that several days after the attack, no concrete effort had been made towards arresting the perpetrators. He said: “CAN is saddened that many days after that avoidable massacre of innocent Nigerians in Plateau State, government is still telling the same old-fashioned stories. “For every murderous act of these marauders, the Federal Government and the security agencies reel out words of assurance that never yield any fruit. “We restate once again that the incessant, senseless and wicked killings going on in the Middle Belt and South-East is totally unacceptable to us.” Ajujungwa said it was more lamentable that whereas government had never prosecuted any of the AK-47 wielding-herdsmen, who had murdered hundreds of Nigerians, it rushed to convict to death, five Christians for allegedly killing one of the attackers. “There is grave injustice in this country and they are not even pretending about it. These people are using AK 47, killing everybody; almost 200 were killed in Jos but the police never arrested any, army never arrested any, and we are saying there is security? There is no security in Nigeria, “We are calling on the Federal Government; if we have security, let them rise to the challenge. This is not good for this democracy, especially at a time we are preparing for election and such thing is happening, I don’t think it is in the best interest of Nigeria. It is putting the election in jeopardy.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/07/giving-land-ranching-better-death-presidency/ |

CilicMarin:your point might seem on target for those who dnt knw the dynamics of Kaduna. Fact is South Kaduna constitute more than enough voting strenght to null a greater part of the so called 3.5million of Buhari expected votes from Kaduna, then substract 5-800k from whatever that is left from the approx 5 million Shiites waiting for Erufai and Bubu at the polls. You can spread as much falsehood and bile about Obi as you like but unfortunately that wont change the dynamics of voting in the South East. APC zombies like you are selling Obi as a Bigot, which every sane human being knows he is not, but on the flip side you are also indirectly telling the tons of millions of Chritians voters who are deeply worried by the constant tilt of this govt towards seemly Islamitization agenda, The loads of christians who have been marginalized in appoontments, postings, promotions, pained and persecuted across every divide, from Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Plateau, Benue, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, i mean every nooks and corners of this country, that indeed the APC is an Islamic party. Nigerians are gradually appreciating the emergence of a detribalized Obi, whose emergence is simply from God almighty, a Vpee that would stand up and protect their interest. One thing you people dnt seem to understand is Peter Obi didnt hustle for the post God made it possible, while you are on every Islamic forums and Groups on social media spreading lies about the man, Peter Obi is silent calm and collected but Christians accross evry divide are loving the ATIKU OBI ticket. Even in places where there was suspision, He has found support. PDP are not the one every islamic and muslim groups calling Pst. Osibanjo a Bigot, they are simply saying Buhari has failed, But the APC are busy spreading lies and falsehood about the PDP candidate. The PDP are not the ones making the up coming elections about religion, as can see by the beehives of different ethnic groups flooding to Dubai to consult Atiku, but the APC are the ones doing so, proving the APC is a property of Tinubu section of the South west and Buhari North west relatives and Bornu Cousins alone. while the PDP are speaking unity and. yall are speaking religion. Most of what was said about this govt are nothing but verifiable facts, bit where are yours against OBi? l But fortunately, Nigerians have not only found you guys out, but no longer moved. They know from the last 3and half years you guys dnt have anyhting to offer, they now knw all the Yorubas supporting Buhari is not cos he is any good, not cos you want to stop the killings, not coa you wish to make the country better, cos they knw Buhari cant fix anything, even if they hand him 20more years, Fortunately Nigerians now knw your support for Buhari is down to your greed to produce the next president. The Chikdren slaughtered in Kaduna, Kano, Zamfara, Plateua, Bauchi, Adamawa, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, and so many other places doesnt matter to you, what matters is the agenda to clinch the ticket come 2023. Well nothing much to say, come 2019, The Nigerian that values human lives morethan you people that values cows over your own lives shall speak with one voice. |
