Politics / Re: U.S Delivers Damning Verdict On GEJ’s Anti-corruption War by moderattor: 2:23pm On May 26, 2012
phadat: Seriously this guys are not capable this country needs a change in mental attitude in all ramifications ,all we get to hear are cases of looting corrupt officials maiming WTF mtcheew
who are we changing them with?
Most of the youth are currupt too! See what happens in SUG elections.
I think GEJ's approach to solving the problem is best.
People are stealing successfully because people don't know those who know are intimidated not to talk.
But this time GEJ is allowing everyone freedom of speech, so Arunma Oteh can point out that Hembe didn't return the N44M he collected to attend a seminar.
People now know how much aso rock spends.
If this continues,
in 10 years it will be impossible to steal a naira from the government.
Politics / Re: U.S Delivers Damning Verdict On GEJ’s Anti-corruption War by moderattor: 2:09pm On May 26, 2012
if GEJ was so currupt, he wouldn't be weak
as that will counter his own moves.
He would need to arrest some, intimidate some , wipe out a village or two in order to cover his own tracks.
Politics / Re: Buhari Or Ibori, Who Will You Vote For? by moderattor: 10:27am On May 26, 2012
This shows clearly that Buhari nor any of his candidates stand a chance in 2015.
Any known thief can win him in a free and fair election.
Boko Haram has finished him.

The last-best thing he could do now, is to accept an official appointment from GEJ.
Maybe he would get a chance to prove himself, or at least change a little about how people see him.

Really? I didn't know that. Perhaps thats why many feel its a weak graph db.
Interesting.
@beef
you know your political stunts cant work in programming section.
Who are the 'many' that 'feel' ?
Statistics please. You know twitter gave up switching from mysql after one year of trial. Facebook runs mysql except in its inbox search.
The future has not found a replacement for mysql.
Programming / Re: Suppose That You Had Nairaland's Friend Graph by moderattor: 4:56am On May 26, 2012
SayoMarvel: @beef modelling issues with relational databases can be avoided using a good O/RM library. I am currently working on a complete friend graph (for a site I can't give details of at the moment) using the object-oriented paradigm. This graph may end up sitting on top of a relational database or a key-value store like the AppEngine datastore (most likely) in production. I am using JPA so I don't have to worry much about how the the data will be physically persisted (whether graphDB, sql-based db, key-value store, blah blah so far the store is JPA-compliant).

Its usually not convinient for OO programmers to work (manipulate complex structures) in relational pattern which I think is what you are facing.
I'll advise that you design in OO and have all your relational stuff auto-generated from your design. I am talking from a Java EE perspective but I know such facilities should be available on c# too (not for the AppEngine datastore anyway).
relational db remains the best approach. Mysql stands undefeated.

on another note
where will you be getting softwares for download?
We dont have up to a hundred worth downloading indigeneous softwares.
If its just any software, remember giants like brothersoft, cnet etc smiley
you may not stand a chance.
If you are later forced into music downloads, that may look more realisable.
Lastly how on earth do you expect to make money from this? Adsense?

Good point, i have also searched but nothing like that i think they just help you with PAD DB for easy software submission through pad files, then you can go ahead and customize the way you like sad but the main issue is i have not seen what am looking for as listed above in my previous posts, but i'll try to see is i can come up with something from SOLOGY'S ideas, though am still open for suggestions.
Did you checkout my first suggestion. I consider it something an average programmer can fix for you. If you know a bit close to average in programming you can look into the database and the codes to see how it can be changed.
Secondly when you finally adjust to what you want. would you mind changing the layout so it will not appear like CNET or some of those other download sites.
It has to appear unique like your personality has depicted.
My 2 cents.

Not exactly. I started work on it early last year, but I had to hire jajad to work on it with me full time around December 2011. He resigned in March and this month I hired kadeerna to continue where he left. I tend to work on the DB structure, overall architecture, cool & challenging features, and performance optimization, but my hard-working guys do the real work of implementing most features.
Nice one.

Have you googled 'plugins for pad db' ?
You could find something you could tinker into what you want.
Also don't forget to checkout their licence, it could be a problem when your business grows large.

Yeah you are right we use the same skin and PAD database for software and skin but it doesn't work the same way i know what i meant it's more of my work, still even with the pad database you can't get the feature am looking for now they only connect you to get direct software submissions from software developers
kill your pride and get a help.
It looks like the same software with cnet.
Webmasters / What Software Is Nairaland Currently Running On? by moderattor: 2:24pm On May 24, 2012
it used to be SMF, but nowadays i don't know what it is.
I still suspect its SMF though.

humblebee: professionally you can, morally its bad.. its like telling a lawyer not to defend his client knowing well that his client is guilty. you don't mis morals with your profession. you're getting paid for your job not going into scamming with them.
no its like selling arms to armed robbers!
When they are caught, you will be pointed.

Programming / Re: Suppose That You Had Nairaland's Friend Graph by moderattor: 11:20am On May 24, 2012
creating a social graph is not beans.
Facebook has 400 A-players programmers, what do you think they are doing?
A simple feature to show what your friend's liked would take a team amature programmers a century!
And yes, like @beaf said, it would take a little more than relational db, though still relational, this time your data HAS AND BELONGS TO very MANY crazy relationships!
