In a bid to diversify the economy, President Muhammadu
Buhari on Thursday said the Federal Government would not
treat agriculture as a development programme but rather as
serious business.

and Steel Development said the government will be
supporting the private sector agriculture chain.
Buhari said this while declaring open the 55th Annual
General Meeting of Nigerian Association of Chambers of
Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).
“Agriculture must cease from being treated as development

“Our goal will be to pursue government supported private sector
agriculture value chain to make agriculture more productive,

“To provide enough food for domestic supply and create jobs

One of those indicted in the
damning revelations made in
the report of the House of Reps
Committee that investigated
the fuel subsidy regime is the
current Governor of Gombe
State, Alhaji Ibrahim
Dankwambo who had served
as the Accountant General of
the Federation between 2005
and 2010.
The indictment has led to calls from within the state that
Alhaji Dankwambo should resign his position. Most of those
who spoke to Street Journal in Gombe described it as
“embarrassing that somebody of Governor Dankwambo’s
calibre could be involved in such atrocities”. Calls have also
gone to the Gombe State House of Assembly to commence
moves to impeach him in case he refuses to resign.
According to the report, over N2 trillion was expended as
fuel subsidy between 2009 and December 2011. The bulk of
the blame for the irregularities was put on the Petroleum
Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, as well as on former
accountant general of the federation Ibrahim Dankwambo
and former chairman of the PPPRA board Ahmadu Ali.
One of the committee’s recommendations was that the
power’s currently being wielded by the Petroleum Minister
should be reduced. To achieve this, the panel recommended
that instead of having only Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke as
Petroleum Minister, two Ministers should be appointed to
oversee the Ministry. While one would oversee the
upstream, the other would be for the downstream.
The committee also recommended that members of the
boards and managements of the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Petroleum Products
Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPRA), past and present,
who are found wanting, for making unauthorised deductions
of hundreds of billions during the period should be
prosecuted.
The sack of present management of the NNPC led by Mr.
Austin Oniwon was also recommended.
It also said NNPC must be made to refund to the federal
purse N705 billion; PPPRA N312 billion; oil marketers who
drew funding without importation, N8.7 billion; while
companies that refused to appear during the investigations
are to repay N41.9 billion.
It was stated in the report that “if the Petroleum Subsidy
Fund was properly managed, the sum of N1.07 trillion would
have been available to the three tiers of government.”
The House yesterday said the report’s 61 recommendations
would be considered at a plenary session to be relayed on
live television on Tuesday.
A portion of the report of the committee on the NNPC reads
in part: “the management and board of the NNPC should be
completely overhauled and all those involved in the
following infractions be further investigated and prosecuted
by the relevant anti-corruption agencies:
Payment of N285.098 billion in excess of the PPPRA
recommended figure for 2011, subsidy deductions of
N310.414 billion for kerosene against a Presidential
directive;
Direct deductions from funds for the Federation Account in
contravention of section 162 of the Nigerian constitution and
illegal granting of price differential or discounts of crude oil
price per barrel to NNPC to the tune of N108.648 billion
from 2009-2011.
NNPC should be unbundled to make its operations more
efficient and transparent, and this we believe can also be
achieved through the passage of a well drafted and
comprehensive Petroleum Industry Bill. The committee
therefore urges the speedy drafting and submission of the
bill to the National Assembly.
The NNPC was found not to be accountable to anybody or
authority. The corporation in 2011 processed payment of
N310.4 billion as 2009-2011 arrears of subsidy on kerosene
contrary to a Presidential directive which removed subsidy
on kerosene in 2009 without any provisions in the
Appropriation Act.”
The committee recommended “direct for the auditing of the
NNPC to determine its solvency. This was as a result of
claims of indebtedness and demands for payments by the
NNPC’s debtors which if not well handled, will not only
affect the entire economy of Nigeria, but also supply and
distribution of petroleum products”.
The committee also stated that “the chairman of the board
of the PPPRA from 2009-2011, and the entire members of
the board during the period are hereby reprimanded and
their decision which opened the floodgate for the bazaar is
condemned in the strongest terms.”
Alhaji Dankwambo, the Governor of Gombe State was not
spared, the report said, “the particular Accountant General
that served during the period 2009 was found to have made
payments of equal instalments of N999 million for the
record of 128 times within 24 hours totalling N127.872
billion.
The confirmed payments from CBN records were made to
beneficiaries yet to be disclosed by the OAGF or identified
by the committee. We however, discovered that only 36
marketers were participants under the PSF scheme during
this period. Even if there were 128 marketers, it was
inconceivable that all would have imported the same
quantity of products to warrant equal payments.”
It was also included in the recommendations that: “all those
in the Federal Ministry of Finance, office of the Director
General of the budget, Accountant General of the Federation
involved in the extra budgetary expenditure under the
Petroleum Support Scheme between 2009-2011 should be
sanctioned in accordance with the civil service rules and
code of conduct bureau. The payment of N999 million 128
times within 24 hours between 12th and 13th January 2009
by the office of the Account General should be further
investigated by relevant anti-corruption agencies”.
Trade and Investment minister Dr. Olusegun Aganga served
as Finance Minister during the period, while Dr. Bright
Okogu has been Director General of the Budget Office.
The report clearly showed that the subsidy regime was
operated from 2009-2011 was fraught with “endemic
corruption and entrenched inefficiency. Much of the amount
claimed to have been paid as subsidy was actually not for
consumed PMS. Government officials made nonsense of
the PSF guidelines due to mainly sleaze and in some case
incompetence. It is therefore apparent that the insistence by
top government officials that the subsidy figures were for
products consumed was a clear attempt to mislead the
Nigerian people.”
The committee found out that N2.6 trillion was spent on
subsidy last year, amounting to more than 900 per cent over
the appropriated sum of N245 billion.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has
detained a former Governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff,
over allegations of corruption.
Mr. Sheriff is said to have voluntarily handed himself in
Wednesday afternoon.
The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren,
confirmed that Mr. Sheriff was currently being held by the
commission.
PREMIUM TIMES reported how the anti-graft agency had on
April 23, moved to declare Mr. Sheriff wanted when he
failed to honour its invitations for questioning.
The former governor, was who summoned by the
commission to appear, damned the invitation and stayed
away.
Although the specific allegations against the former
governor are​ unclear at this time, sources said the
investigation is related to allegations that parts of the
N300billion his administration received from the Federation
Account between 2003 and 2011 were not judiciously spent.
The investigation began in 2012 and had been ongoing ever
since, a source said.
Mr. Sheriff governed Borno State on the platform of the
defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party.
Before then, he was a senator between 1999 and 2003 on
the ticket of the same party.
He was a founding member of the ruling All Progressives
Congress, APC, before he defected to the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP.

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) says it can buy a
nuclear weapon and transport it to the US through Nigeria.
According to Premium Times, the jihadists made a claim
two weeks ago through a publication in their propaganda
magazine.
The group said it could repeat the pattern used for drug
trafficking through West Africa, which is even easier with
presence of Boko Haram.
ISIS, which has been recently linked with Boko Haram,
characterized the Nigerian army as “an exhausted and
smashed national army that is now in a virtual state of
collapse”. The extremists insisted that their Nigerian
“colleagues” were in control of the majority of the country
territory, with no intention to stop.
The past two months have been marked by a series of grand
victories for the Nigerian army. The military not only
reclaimed a number of strategic towns, but rescued
hundreds of women and children from captivity. The most
sensational operations were recorded in Sambisa Forest.
However, yesterday Boko Haram released a fresh video
rejecting the claims by the military. The footage contains:
“Most of our territory is still under our control.” Moreover,
the video bears the new logo “Islamic State in West Africa”

Ever since I became conscious of my existence as a citizen
of Nigeria, I have always wished that Nigeria should be
revitalized in all aspects so that it would be a country that
would put grin on our faces. But so many unpleasant events
idealized by our leaders and promoted by sycophants make
me to wonder if our leaders want us to be patriots or traitors
to Nigeria.
A patriot is a person who vigorously supports their Country
and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors.
It is also a person who loves, supports and defends his or
her country and its interests with devotion.
A traitor is a person who betrays a friend, principle or
county. It is also a person who commits treason by
betraying his or her country.
Patriotism is devoted love, support, and defense of one’s
country; national loyalty.
A true leader is supposed to be a patriot by defending his
country against internal and external enemies or detractors
such as corruption, but when a leader promotes corruption,
he betrays his country and therefore becomes a traitor
because corruption is an enemy to democracy and
development and leaders are supposed to fight against it
not to promote it.
Why are Americans more patriotic to America than
Nigerians are to Nigeria? A friend of mine once told me in
Makurdi, Benue State that America gained her independence
on July 4, 1776 while Nigeria gained her independence on
October 1, 1960 so there is no need for any comparison.
But I told him that a balanced comparison can be made on
equal levels or stages of development in America’s past in
relation to Nigeria’s recent past or present state of affairs.
Thomas Jefferson was the third President of the United
States from 1801 to 1809. He was a patriotic leader who
contributed to making America a great nation today.
Jefferson’s political philosophy was one of the pillars to
America’s greatness. While he affirmed “the best
government to be that which governs least”, he was equally
convinced that “the welfare of the whole is the proper
purpose of the state”. In his book: American Education: A
historical perspective. Gutek Gerald, an American writer
says that Jefferson encouraged the need to use federal
powers to advance the national interest for the common
good.
George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson,
Benjamin Rush, Benjamin Franklin were among those who
stood firm against corruption and encouraged Americans to
be patriots and not traitor through good leadership.
In Nigeria, the case has always been different right from
inception of Nigeria till date. Most Nigerian leaders who
should be patriotic have become traitors.
To mention a few, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida
(IBB) (Retd), late General Sani Abacha, General Olusegun
Obansanjo (Retd) and Goodluck Jonathan are among those
who have taught us to be traitors by the corruption they
committed with impunity.
There is no government or leader that is not naturally
corrupt, but when a leader institutionalizes corruption, he
becomes a traitor because he does little or nothing to fight
against this enemy called “corruption”.
Under Babangida administration which began on August 27,
1985 after Buhari’s military regime was deposed in a
peaceful military coup; foreign debt rose to $30.2 billion
according to THE NEWS of 7 June 1999, Vol.12, No. 22 P.
16. THE NEWS says that it was this time also that Nigeria
witnessed an unprecedented level of capital flight,
divestment of foreign investment from key industrial
sectors, low capacity utilization, outright closure of
industrial concerns and unemployment.
THE NEWS also noted that he was alleged to have “siphoned
the $12 billion Gulf war windfall. These are a few among his
many corrupt acts.
Ernest Shonekan was handed over power as the interim
Head of State by Babangida after he annulled the June 12,
1993 presidential election, which was to usher MKO Abiola
as civilian president. Shonekan was handed over power in
August 1993. In November 1993, Gen. Sani Abacha forced
Shonekan out of office and formed his own provisional
ruling council.
During his administration, Abacha was noted to have
diverted funds meant for financing certain projects into his
account. Most prominent of these projects was the
sprawling Ajaokuta Multi-billion dollar steel project. The late
dictator simply arranged to buy back the $2.5 billion debt of
the steel company. THE NEWS notes that pinching the
whopping sum from the treasury; Abacha clearly diverted it
to his account without effecting any debt buy back. From
the large sum, he gave $5 million to Alhaji Bashri Dalharta,
his power and steel minister, who described it as a “gift” for
his role in facilitation the deal. Also known to have benefited
from the scam was Chief Anthong Ani, the despot’s finance
minister, THE NEWS says. These are a few among his many
corrupt acts.
In his greedy nature, Abacha had planned to change to
civilian rule, after which he met his death on June 8, 1998.
Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar immediately took over the
mantle of leadership in the same month. Gen. Abubakar
was also not free from corruption. But unlike his military
counterpart, Abubakar actually worked for the return to
civilian rule that finally ushered in Olusegun Obasanjo as a
civilian president elected on the 29 May 1999 in the third
republic.
Although Obasanjo established Independent Corrupt
practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), his
government was one of the worst in terms of corruption.
In 1999, the World Bank compiled a list of Nigerian funds by
depositors in four Western countries and gave the list to
President Obasanjo. But he ignored the list. The 2003
election which ushered in the second tenure of Obasanjo
and some PDP governors was another peak of corruption. It
was characterized by cheating, hijacking of ballot boxes,
buying and selling of votes, rigging of results and so on.
The third term agenda of Obasanjo started shortly three
months after he had assumed office for the second tenure
in May, 2003. On August 23, 2003, THE SUNDAY SUN
published a cover story with the title: “Mandela warns
Obasanjo- Don’t Try Third Term”. The paper disclosed that
Mandela had a hint that Obasanjo was plotting for a third
term after May 2007. On September 15, 2003, INSIDER
WEEKLY Magazine came out with a cover title: “Third Term
Presidency: Nigerians says no To Obasanjo”. In the main
story, which was captioned 2007: Obasanjo’s Secret Game,
the Magazine stated: “It started as a strong rumour. But
assumed a life of its own when venerable Nelson Mandela
(of blessed memory), former President of South Africa sent
a warning to his friends, President Olusegun Obasanjo not
to tread the path of infamy by attempting to run for a third
term in office . . . .” According to INSIDER WEEKLY of
September 15, 2003, P. 18, source who spoke to the
Magazine said, “it was the game plan of Obasanjo to
attempt an amendment of the constitution that would enable
him seek a third term in office”. He wants to be life
President, if possible.
Titus Terver Mamadu writes in his book titled:
“CORRUPTION IN THE LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE OF
NIGERIAN POLITY” that for the third term plot to be
effective, Obasanjo needed the endorsement of the National
Assembly and two thirds of the state assemblies. This was
because the section 135(2) of the constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria makes it clear and definite that subject
to the provision in this section, “the President shall vacate
his office at the expiration of a period of four years . . .”
However, the corrupt mind-set Obasanjo who claimed to be
fighting corruption pumped Senators and members of
House of Representatives Billions of Naira so as to make his
way through and effect the amendment of the 1999
constitution to favour his third term agenda.
THE NEWS of December 5, 2005, P. 33 reports that the
Movement for the Defense of Democracy (MDD) reported on
November 23, 2005 that in pursuit of the third term
ambition, Obasanjo budgeted more than N90 billion to entice
lawmakers to facilitate the third term agenda. They gave the
following details of the amount of money involved in the
alleged bribe: Each member of the 360 Representatives was
offered N70 million (a total of N25.2billion). Each of the 109
Senators was offered N140Million (a total of N15.2billion).
Every member of each state House of Assembly in the 36
states was offered N50million.
In a survey of the bribe, THISDAY of May 5, 2006 reports
that “pro-third term Senators and House of Representatives
members in the defunct joint committee of the National
Assembly on 1999 constitution review were alleged to have
received $37,000 each to encourage them recommend a
review of the tenure clause in the Constitution from two to
three terms of four years each for the President.
VANGUARD of April 14, 2006, P.1 also reports a similar
story.
In view of the huge amount used on bribe of Senators and
members of House of Representatives, one can see that
Obasanjo was a traitor and not a patriot. These are just a
few of his many corrupt acts.
When President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (who became
President in 2007) died on 5 may 2010 and Goodluck Ebele
Azikiwe Jonathan was sworn in on 6 May 2010 as the 14th
Head of State of Nigeria, he cited anti-corruption, power and
electoral reforms as focuses of his administration. But his
administration has rather promoted corruption than curbed
it. The basic problem Jonathan has is corruption which has
neutralized his achievements and made most Nigerians to
see his Transformation Agenda as a big failure.
The Malabu Oil deal corruption is one of the issues that has
questioned Jonathan’s anti-corruption competency.
According to THE ECONOMIST of 15 June 2013, In 2011
Goodluck Jonathan’s government facilitated the transfer of
payment of $1.1Billion to a fake company set up by a
controversial former Petroleum Minister under Sani
Abasha’s corrupt regime, Dan Etete. The fake company,
Malabu Oil and Gas was set up in 1998 by Etete using a
false identity so as to award himself a lucrative Oil block,
OPL245, for which he paid only $2million of the $20million
legally required by the State. At the time of Jonathan’s
government helping to facilitate the transfer of payment
from shell and Eni to the fake company, Etete was already a
convicted felon of money laundering in France. THE
ECONOMIST further says that only $800million out of the $
1.1billon meant for Malabu Oil and Gas was even remitted
by the Nigerian government.
The Nigerian Attorney General, Mohammed Bello Adoke,
who signed the documents involved in facilitating the
payments, denied the rest was shared by public officials.
The transfer to convicted Felon, Etete, only came to public
light when a Russian lawyer that claimed to have helped
Malabu negotiate a deal with the Jonathan’s government
sued in New York for a $66Million unpaid commission. Both
Shell and Eni as of September 2014 were under investigation
for corruption by the UK and Italian authorities for the
incidence.
The way which Jonathan handled the corruption act of the
erstwhile Minister of Aviation Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah
who bought 2 BMW bullet proof cars at the rate of
N255miillion upset many Nigerians.
According to PUNCH, February 27, 2013, Mr. Abdulrasheed
Maina was accused of spending up to N1billion to carry out
biometric verification for retirees, both in Nigeria and
abroad. On the whole, Maina allegedly misappropriated
about N195billion, according to the Senate Pension Probe
Committee headed by Aloysius Etuk and Kabiru Gaya. This
resulted in extreme difficulties in getting money to pay
thousands of pensioners their due.
Lamido sanusi was suspended by Jonathan and later
replaced as the Central Bank Governor for leaking
information that about $20billion of petrodollars were
missing from the coffers of Nigeria. And this act made most
Nigerians to lost faith in Jonathan’s government in
effectively fighting corruption.
PREMIUM TIMES of March 24, 2014 reports that the
Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke was accused
by Federal lawmakers of squandering N10billion to charter
and maintain private jet for her personal use. She was
accused of spending about N130Million Naira monthly to
maintain the aircraft, solely for her personal needs and
those of her immediate family.
Samuel Adejare, the lawmaker who raised the matter made
it explicitly clear that there was irrefutable evidence showing
that the financing for the Challenger 850 aircraft was drawn
from government funds.
According to Mr. Adejare, the estimated N10billion would be
“a tip of the iceberg” as further investigation would show
the minister spent far higher.
As a result of many cases of high level of corruption in the
Jonathan government, the United States Government in
2013 indicted the President Goodluck Jonathan led Federal
Government of massive and widespread corruption.
According to the United States Department of State,
government officials and agencies frequently engage in
corrupt practices with impunity.
The former United States’ Secretary of State, Mrs. Hillary
Clinton in a public interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts,
lambasted Nigerian government saying: “They have
squandered their oil wealth, they have allowed corruption to
fester and now they are losing control of parts of their
territory because they wouldn’t make hard choices”.
According to her, President Goodluck Jonathan led
government is indirectly aiding corruption to worsen the
nation’s many problems.
From all the corrupt acts of these leaders, have they taught
us to be patriots or traitors? They have taught us that
corruption is right and we should not see anything wrong
with it.
How can we be patriots when most of our leaders don’t care
about us? How can we sacrifice for Nigeria when most of
our leaders are killing it? Patriotism is motivated by good
governance. It is reciprocal. And for Nigerians to be patriotic
to Nigeria, the leaders must first lead the way through
exemplary leadership.
If Nigerian leaders continue to be traitors through bad
leadership, there is no way we can be patriots. Until a
patriotic leader takes over the affairs of Nigeria and lead by
example through good leadership, Nigerians will never be
patriotic to Nigeria.
The pendulum of support that swung against Jonathan and
PDP in the 2015 general elections was projected out of
patriotic spirits of Nigerians. Most Nigerians voted against
Jonathan and PDP because of the high level of corruption
and negligence of the masses.
We expect the President-elect, Major General Muhammadu
Buhari (Retd) to motivate us to be patriotic to Nigeria
through good leadership once he is sworn in on May 29,
2015. If he will be a patriot, we will also become patriots.
But if he will be a traitor, we will also follow suit.

Ex-militant leader, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, has described the
recent 2015 general elections as “the most rigged election
Nigeria has ever experienced, as it was not free and fair”.
Alhaji Dokubo made his stand known Sunday, during a chat
with the media in Owerri, also explained that he was in Imo
to be part of the Biafra Day celebration with his Biafran
brothers and sisters.
“The figures were self evident. The figures clearly showed
the manipulations. The elections were not free and fair.
Also, the stage was set to manipulate the elections”, Dokubo
said.
He recalled that Boko Haram came into being after the
leaders from the Northern section of the country, mostly the
Northern Muslims, made the statement that they would
make the polity unstable, ungovernable and crisis laden for
Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who was duly elected by the
people of Nigeria.
He recalled that within the four years that Dr. Jonathan was
the democratically elected President, they made it
unbearable for him.
He equally recalled that the National Assembly rejected e-
voting and when the card readers came, some of us shouted
at the roof tops, saying that the gadget were unknown to the
Constitution and Electoral Laws of Nigeria.
“Our brother Goodluck Jonathan refused to listen to us. To
him, the life of any Nigerian was not worth his election or
ambition. For us, that was an abdication of his duties as
President because we were also involved in the elections
and we wanted a free and fair elections”, Dokubo said.
Answering a question, the former IYC leader said that on the
day of the general election, Dr. Jonathan was roundly
humiliated, stressing that four card readers were brought as
he stood waiting and all of them rejected him.
“That was the time Dr. Jonathan ought to have taken action
and stopped the fraud that INEC called an election. He did
not do it. It was in the middle of a crucial match that the
referee, Professor Attahiru Jega , who is from the same
place with Muhammadu Buhari, issued a statement that if
card readers cannot confirm your finger prints, then you can
go on and vote”, Dokubo fumed.

to appear in Goodluck Jonathan’s hometown Otuoke in
Bayelsa state.......

“I have read the Inaugural Speech of the President of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria, Major-General Muhammadu
Buhari (Rtd.), delivered immediately after his swearing in. It
is gratifying that General Buhari has vowed to tackle the rot
in the power sector, even though he did not give any
direction on how to do that. By and large, it is my view that
the President has not addressed the real issues affecting
our lives in Nigeria.
It would seem that the President is still on the soap box,
whereby promises and promises and intentions, are the
order. He is the President of Nigeria now and my
expectation was that since March 28, 2015, when he won
the election, when he received the certificate of return from
INEC, when he got assurances from Dr. Goodluck Jonathan,
that his election would not be contested, General Buhari
would have outlined his main policy direction. But alas, that
has not happened today.
For instance, the President did not say anything on his
foreign policy directive, on issues relating to global warming
and climate change, the violence in the Middle East and the
general global economic downturn. Also, the President was
silent on the mode of tackling corruption, which indeed has
been the main thrust of his electioneering campaigns; he
was silent on the collapsing aviation sector, he kept mute on
the unpaid salaries of millions of workers across the land,
the huge debts that the Jonathan administration has
bequeathed to him and indeed the main means of
generating revenue, to run his government, apart from oil.
General Buhari gave no hint on the mode of reform of the
judicial system and the administration of justice generally,
the expected policy statement on NNPC did not come, and
even the Boko Haram insurgency, to which the President
devoted most of his speech, ended up in a policy disaster,
of cause after effect; in that the President will only know the
cause, origin and perspectives of the criminal organization,
only after he has succeeded in killing them all.
In all, the Inaugural Speech became another campaign
promise, a general rendition of statements of intention,
without action. It was too vague and illusory, like a speech
being delivered by a novice in power. This is the President
who has ruled this country as a Head of State, through a
coup detat in 1983, and one that has sought to rule this
nation since 2003, so he had all the time in the world, to
have mapped out his cause of action and strategies. This is
surely not the speech expected from our GMB.
In the coming days however, we expect more concrete
reforms and ACTION”.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa
State, Lionel Jonathan-Omo, has begged Muhammadu
Buhari not to prosecute President Goodluck Jonathan when
he gets into power.
The former commissioner for agriculture, and environment,
said any attempt to prosecute Jonathan may result in
violent uprising in the Niger Delta region, Vanguard reports.
Jonathan-Omo disclosed this while speaking to journalist as
he presented a 54 page letter to Buhari titled: ‘Road map to
Success.’ He said: “ As you take over power please don’t prosecute or
persecute President Jonathan, you will indirectly provoke a
recrudescence of violence in the Niger Delta. Young boys will
hang on that as a subterfuge to cause violent uprising again in the Niger Delta. Avoid it completely .”
The PDP chieftain was optimistic that Buhari will fix Nigeria,
though not immediately.
“ I am convinced that Buhari will succeed because of his
unflagging desire to rule Nigeria. He has an internal motivation to do the job, and that internal motivation will transform to
vision ,” he said. Tomorrow, Buhari will be sworn in as president of Nigeria.
On May 22, Friday, the president-elect traveled to London.
He arrived Nigeria today ahead of the inauguration
ceremony which will take place tomorrow at the Eagle
Square, Abuja. Jonathan has said Buhari should not only probe his administration but do the same for the past governments.

The major oil marketers association of Nigeria (MOMAN)
has finally reached an agreement with the government to
begin supplying country with much needed petroleum
products.
Fuel scarcity hits Nigeria’s economy hard.
Magnus Abe, the chairman of the senate committee on
petroleum resources, informed press that a solution to fuel
crisis has just been worked out during the meeting of
MOMAN representatives, major stakeholders in the oil and
gas sector, senate committee on petroleum resources, and
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, minister of finance.
“ We have agreed on the following: first is that the minister of
finance will give an undertaking to the Major Marketers and
Depot Managers that the work of the committee being headed
by CBN and PPPR, on the outstanding claims, would be
concluded and be reflected in the hand over notes to the
incoming administration ”, told senator Magnus Abe.
The senator also stated that MOMAN officials had agreed to
begin lifting of petroleum products nationwide within the
next six hours. Besides that the transport cost would be
determined by the National Association of Road Transport
Owners.
He added that the Depot Managers had agreed to open all
their depots nationwide. According to that decision,
petroleum products delivery across the country will be
restarted “ in six hours ”
At the same time the Nigeria union of petroleum and natural
gas workers (NUPENG) and the petroleum and natural gas
senior staff association (PENGASSAN), which had
suspended their activities previously, have also decided to
call off their ongoing strike to end fuel crisis hitting Nigeria’s
economy.
During the meeting, it was agreed that the department of
petroleum resources has the right to revoke the license of
those oil marketers which refuse to lift petroleum products
across Nigeria.
Earlier on Sunday Ifeayin Ubah, the chairman of Capital Oil
and Gas Ltd issued a statement, declaring intention to curb
fuel crisis causing heavy negative impact on Nigerian
economy.
“ We call on other petroleum marketers to follow suit and save
our nation from this impending economic and social crisis, ’’
was told in his statement.
“ Our facility has the capacity to load over 13 million litres of
product before dawn. This comes to approximately 400 trucks
of petroleum products. With this act, it is our belief that once
again our citizens will begin to smile, return to normal family
and work life” assured Nigerians Ifeayin Ubah.
The scarcity comes as the result of dispute between
government and fuel marketers and transporters over
unpaid bills of $1 billion.
Since October 2014 they were unpaid the difference between
real cost of products and fuel price subsidised by outgoing
Goodluck Jonathan’s government.

Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Mohammed Bello
Adoke has today stated that the current siege on the home
of Senator-elect Kasumu Buruji is not an extra-judicial
action.
The AGF said that due process had been followed through,
first the American Government had issued documents
seeking his extradition and the documents have finally gone
through the necessary appropriate legal body.

“We have confirmed that they do not have a warrant of arrest,
just as the office of the Attorney General of the Federation
(AGF) and Minister of Justice has said that it did not give any
order to carry out this illegality.
“We have confirmed that this illegality is being designed and
executed by Chief Bode George whose wife is the Director
General of the NDLEA, all in a bid to score cheap political
points.
“We urge all well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on NDLEA, Chief
George and his wife to toe the path of the rule of law and followdue process.
“Nigeria is not a Banana republic! The United States being the
bastion of democracy, the rule of law and due process should not lend itself to this kind of illegality”, the statement said. Earlier in the day, Kashamu was contacted by reporter and he swore to commit suicide if any of the NDLEA officials
stormed into his residence.
Kashamu, is a Senator-elect for Ogun East senatorial
district under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party,

starved to death on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State
capital.
The discovery followed an unscheduled visit by the state
police command to Celestial Street in Agbowo.
The street is densely populated with sparse lines of
demarcation, typical of similar densely populated city
neighbourhoods. The area is close to the nation’s premier
university, the University of Ibadan (UI).
Despite the area’s proximity to affluent neighbourhoods, the
children could not get help, according to their host.
When the police convoy arrived in the area, surprise was
written on the faces of residents and passersby. Many
followed their vehicles to find out if a heavy crime had been
committed in the area.
But they soon discovered that Amarachi Ukoha, 16, and
Munachi Madagu, three, died because the breadwinner of
the family, Mr Kunle Ayoola, could not feed them.
He also failed to provide the medical treatment for them
because he had no money to take to the hospital.
Ayoola, 20, said he could not help the children because of
his poor income, adding that those who could help were
also unavailable.
He is married to Chinonye, also 20. They have an 18-month
old baby. Chinonye had Munachi for her first husband and
brought him to her new home. Her younger sister,
Amarachi, 16, came to live with them.
She was said to have died of hunger, which was
compounded by diarrhoea when the family was preparing to
bury Munachi.
Both died in an eight-room bungalow. They were thought to
have been struck by a strange illness that caused their
death. But Ayoola confessed that death visited them
because he could not feed them. Munachi’s photo showed
that he was malnourished.
Ayoola said: “I think they died as a result of poor medical
care. I tried my best to save them but there was no money.
The only people that could help were not at home when I
visited them.”
The family man gathers metals from dustbins and dump
sites and sells them at Ogunpa Market in Ibadan. But the
income, according to him, is so small that he could not
afford to feed his family well.
He said he earned about N500 whenever business was
good. But that was a far cry from meeting the basic needs
of his six-member family, which includes his maternal
grandmother.
Ayoola said: “I sell scraps at Ogunpa Market. I make
between N500 and N1,000 daily when business is good. I
did not learn any work before starting the scrap business. I
dropped out of school in Primary Six because there was no
money.”
The scraps seller said he was making efforts to bury
Munachi when he approached the priest of a church
opposite the house for advice. But the man advised him not
to bury the boy because he was not his father. He took him
to the police station to report the death.
But before the police arrived the house, Amarachi had also
passed on, complicating the case for Ayoola. The deaths
were reported to Police Commissioner Muhammed Katsina
later in the day.
The priest, Most Superior Evangelist Tosin Otakoya, said:
“On Tuesday, one boy called Kunle Ayoola, who is living in
front of my church, came to me and said one of his babies
had died. I asked if the baby truly belonged to him and he
said no. I told him he had no right to bury the baby unless
his dad authorised him to do so. When we tried to get the
baby’s father on phone and the number was not going, I told
him to go to police station and report himself because he
could not keep the body in his house.
“I said it was not ideal for him to bury a boy that he did not
father. On getting to the station, I met with the Divisional
Police Officer (DPO) and explained the situation to her. She
volunteered to go to the house with me. When we got to the
house, we met another 16-year-old lady, who was already
dead, on the floor. It was strange to us.
“So, she contacted the Area Commander and the police
commissioner to come to our rescue. The Area Commander
came and evacuated the two bodies to the mortuary. I
noticed these people died of poverty. They had nothing to
eat or money to take care of themselves. The lady and that
baby were sick and there was no care before they died.”

According to the latest unconfirmed reports Abubakar
Shekau, Boko Haram leader (or his impostor), has been
captured.
Several news media have provided the information, which
was initially published on News Rescue. Based on the
available data, Nigerian number one terrorist was nabbed by
the Nigerien troops at Abadam, Borno state, and taken
across the border to Bosso, Niger Republic.
The official sources, including the Defence Headquarters,
have been silent on the matter so far.
It is worth noting that Shekau was claimed to have been
killed several times by the Nigerian military. However, even

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has described the
late Senator Zanna Ahmed from Borno State as a
remarkable human rights activist who had frequently
spoken in defence of oppressed people.
In a message of condolence issued in Abuja by his media
team, Buhari said he was marvelled by Zanna’s tenacity in
defence of his opinions over the issues affecting the interest
of the people of Borno State.
According to Buhari, the late Zanna was an “extraordinarily
courageous politician who constantly stood by his
convictions.” The President-elect noted that Zanna was not a typically selfish Nigerian politician who put his interest before his people’s.
Buhari said the deceased will always be remembered for
these rare virtues among Nigerian politicians, adding that
other leaders should emulate his selflessness. The

of the late Senator, the government and the people of Borno

The Borno State Government, has requested the sum of $
20million to help resettle refugees displaced by the Boko
Haram insurgency from their homes.
Alhaji Kashim Shettima, the stat’s governor said this when
he addressed the International Committee of the Red Cross,
led by its President, Mr. Peter Maurer in Maiduguri.

Shettima represented by his deputy, Alhaji Zannah
Mustapha, said that his administration has been responsible
for feeding the IDPs through the State Emergency
Management Agency.
He also said that even though the military has freed most of
the communities formerly held by insurgents, the IDP’s still
find it difficult to to go back to their homes and restart their
normal lives. Security reports revealed that most of the
roads and streets, leading to the affected communities and
their farmlands, were not safe as Improvised Explosive
Devices and landmines were planted by the fleeing
terrorists.
He said, “We, the government and good people of Borno State,
want to use this opportunity to thank you (Red Cross), NEMA
and other donor agencies for supporting us in this our trying
moment. Twenty-two out of the 27 local government areas were
destroyed, over million IDPs are living in Maiduguri, the state
capital alone.
“Just yesterday, we received another batches of 4,500 IDPs
from Geidam, who were sent away by the government of Niger

“Borno State needs over 20 million dollars to resettle its people
that were displaced as most houses, business centres and

before they are relocated to their various communities.”
The ICRC President, Maurer, said that they came to Borno to
see the conditions the IDP’s are facing and personally hear

The Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign
Organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has taken a swipe at
the Adamu Mu’azu- led National Working Committee (NWC)
of the party.
According to him, Mu’azu and his NWC members are a
disaster and that they must be sacked for the party to
survive.
Speaking with reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, Fani-Kayode
said: “The present leadership of the party, particularly its
information organs, stand no chance against an APC
Federal Government because they are weak and they lack
understanding and courage.
“They will be savaged beyond belief and torn apart if they
try it because they do not have the stomach, the grit, the
appetite or the wherewithal for a long drawn fight.
“They are simply incapable of defending the President and
his legacies after he has left office and neither are the
majority of them even ready to do so. Instead of focusing
on their numerous inadequacies and trying to fix them,
these very same people are hurling brick bats at others.
“Instead of preparing to defend the party and enhancing the
fortunes of the party members over the next four years, they
are making childish and nonsensical allegations and
alienating and upsetting many party leaders.”
The NWC had blamed President Goodluck Jonathan’s defeat
at the last election on the hate campaign initiated by the
campaign organisation, saying the President’s campaign
team ruined the President’s chances.
Reacting to the crushing defeat the PDP suffered at the last
election, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa
Metuh, complained that the NWC was sidelined in the
campaign and that the entire campaign funds were placed
under the control of the President’s campaign organisation.
But Fani-Kayode described the claim as nonsensical and
unadulterated rubbish, adding that their actions were fueled
by hate and envy.
He retorted: “What the NWC said about us is undoubtedly
the unkindest cut of all. It is like Brutus’ betrayal of Julius
Caesar. It is wicked, uncharitable and unacceptable and
some of us will not take it.
“What they need to understand and appreciate is that we
will not sit by idly and allow them re-write history or make
us the fall guys. The only reason we have not opened up on
them is out of respect for President Jonathan and because
we want to ensure that our party remains united.
“They are indeed the enemy within. The truth is that their
allegation is not only baseless but it is also unadulterated
rubbish and those who made them are nothing but ingrates,
cowards and traitors who know nothing about politics,
political campaigns, intellectual discourse or political
engagement.
“They are simply trying to revise and re-write history in
order to cover up their treachery, weaknesses and
inadequacies. They are fueled by hate and envy and worse
of all, right from the start, they had no interest in fighting for
our leader and presidential candidate, President Goodluck
Jonathan or in ensuring that he won the election.
“From day one, all they did was sulk about the fact that a
Presidential Campaign Organisation had been set up and
that they would not be able to have control of the campaign
themselves or have access to the resources that we were
given.
“At every point, they tried to undermine our efforts and
sabotage us but we ignored them and remained focused on
doing our job despite their provocations.
“From day one, all they were interested in was in controlling
others and telling them what to do. They were not in the
fray, they refused to enter the heat of battle and all they did
was moan and bicker from the side walk like little children.”

President Goodluck Jonathan has begged any Nigerian he
may have offended while in office to forgive him.
Mr. Jonathan made the plea on Sunday during a farewell
service organized for him and his family on Sunday at the
Aso Villa chapel.
The President said there was no way he would not have
stepped on toes in his roles first as Vice President, Acting
President, and President of Nigeria. He added that this
would not have been deliberate.
He noted that there are times when one would take a
decision in the best interest of all but even friends would
misunderstand the situation.
“So for the eight (years) that one has been there, definitely
one is not perfect. We have certainly done things that
probably we wouldn’t have done that way, but we didn’t do
things deliberately.
“So for those who we have offended it was not deliberate, it
was circumstances of the office. So we also plead that
those people should forgive, we think we have done our
best.
“You can do your best and your friends may misunderstand
you,” he said.
Mr. Jonathan said his last service at the chapel would have
been on May 24, but on that day, “we will all go to the
National Christian Centre for the inauguration service. So
for me and my wife, this is our last day of worship here. The
congregation will continue until new government takes
over.”
Meanwhile the Vice President-elect ,Yemi Osinbajo, was
absent at the farewell service which would have seen the
President officially handing over the chapel to him.
Speaking to journalists after the Sunday service, the Aso
Rock Chaplain, Obioma Onwuzurumba, said the Vice
President-elect had been duly invited but was unfortunately
absent. He sent a representative in his stead.
Mr. Jonathan, a Christian from South South Nigeria, lost his
re-election bid to Muhammadu Buhari, a Muslim from North
West Nigeria. While Mr. Jonathan’s Vice President is a
Muslim, Mr. Buhari’s is a Christian cleric.

The Governorship Election Tribunal in Gombe State is set to
begin hearing on the petition filed by the candidate of the All
Progressives Congress, Inuwa Yahaya​,​ in the April 11
gubernatorial election.
Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of the Peoples Democratic P​
arty,PDP,​ was declared winner of the election by the state
returning officer on Sunday April 12.
Proceedings at the tribunal failed to kick off after Mr.
Dankwambo reportedly played hide and seek with officials
of the tribunal by refusing to be served.
When it became apparent that serving Mr. Dankwambo was
becoming difficult, the tribunal granted the request of APC
for the governor and other defendants, which include the
PDP, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,
and others to be served through substituted means.
However, counsel to Mr. Dankwambo, appeared at the
sitting of the Tribunal Monday and received copies of the
petition on his behalf.
The a​cting secretary of the APC in Gombe S​tate, Adamu
Modibbo, informed PREMIUM TIMES that security personnel
at the gate denied officials of the tribunal access to the
government House.
“They always told them that they have orders from above
not to let them in,” he said.
He also said in one of the visit by the court, the security men
used teargas to chase the staff of the tribunal out of the
Government House.
“The court was left with the final option, which was
publishing the summons in the dailies or pasting it in public
places,” Mr. Modibbo said.
Also, the tribunal has granted the request of the APC to
inspect election materials connected with the gubernatorial
election ahead of the formal commencement of hearing.
The secretary of the tribunal, Bello Doro-Abdullahi, also
informed PREMIUM TIMES over the telephone that the
tribunal would formally begin sitting on Tuesday next.
“We would first start with petitions on the National
Assembly election, after which a day will be fixed for the
gubernatorial one when it matures,” he said.
The Gombe state Governorship and Legislative Election
Petition Tribunal has received 19 petitions before the time
for submission of petitions elapsed Tuesday.
Mr. Doro-Abdullahi, said two of the petitions were for
governorship, 10 for National Assembly while seven were
for the State House of Assembly elections.

An Egypt court has sentenced former President Mohamed
Morsi to death for a mass prison break in 2011.
The court ruled on Saturday that the sentencing of Morsi
and 105 others will be referred to the Grand Mufti, the
highest religious authority in Egypt, for confirmation.
Many of those sentenced were tried in absentia, including
Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an influential Islamic scholar based in
Qatar.
The court will pronounce its final decision on June 2.
