Same here. Clearance costs N2,000...... i dunno how an organisation that wants to give me 2million will still need my N2,000.

Business / Re: YOUWIN 2013: Experiences & Tips! by mona83(f): 4:01pm On Jan 08, 2014
.NET:
I won in the maiden edition of YouWIN.

My Business plan was on Information and Communications Technology. I do business in Port Harcourt. In our own time, there were 2 stages, the first stage was where they asked us general questions about the kind of business you are doing/want to do.

I told them that it was a Sole Proprietorship business that I had been running for about 3 years before that time. I explained that the business was growing but seriously needed funding (as the banks were not helping at all).

I told them that I was deeply committed to doing this business. I explained the 4 branches where I expected to reap 'better' money if they helped me with more funding viz:
Internet Service Provision
IT Training
Cloud Computing
Web/Application Development

I made them realize that I was already making profits in the business as at then, but was not satisfied with the level of profit, therefore I needed more money to delve into the areas I listed above.

On the management of my business, I told them that I was the most active person running the business and employed just 2 other people (Actually, this was true). As at that time, I had 2 young people (boy and girl) doing Internship with me. They had just left Secondary School. I did not have to pay them much, but they were happy.

Since my business was based on providing services, I did not offer any off-the-shelf products.

One question they asked was the things that mitigate my business and I told them that Funding was part of the problem. Another problem is Steady Power Supply in Naija. If you are into ICT, you should know how Power affects our business.

There were some other questions they asked us sha, but I cannot remember them all.

2 weeks after submitting, they told me that I had passed the 1st stage and was qualified to go to Benin, Edo State for a training. At the training, I was allowed to sell my idea to a gathering of over 600 people. I think they liked my business idea. Mehn, they taught us a lot of things o.

After the training, we were asked to then submit a holistic plan for the Business (Cash-Flow Projection, Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Demographic Analysis, etc).

Later today, I might talk about the second stage, where you have to submit things like Cash-Flow Projection, Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Demographic Analysis, etc.

They offered me 10M sha.

.NET

Thanks, ".NET" for the valuable insight.
There are however, a few grey areas where I need clarification.
Kindly oblige me.

Under PROFITABILITY
- What are your current and expected sales within the next 12 months..........?
- What amount of sales.....must you achieve to reach profitability.......?
2 people doing the same business and achieving same sales volumes but with varying capital inputs cannot hit profitability in the same month.
Do I calculate my profit based on the sum I request or based on the first grant(which I don't know how much it'll be)?

- When do you expect to achieve this(how many months after receiving your first grant award?
Profit is the difference between revenue and cost/input.
I cannot ordinarily project how much sales I will make if I don't know how much stock I have(or will have).
I can only know this if I know how much the first grant will be.
How can I safely assume a figure, please?

Under FINANCIAL
#1.How much money do you require or expect to need from other sources(i.e. Investors, bank loans etc)
- I do not intend to source for loans/3rd party investors...what I have plus my winnings will be sufficient to give my business a solid footing.
Is it ok if I put 0.00Naira?

Basically, please throw light on the Profitability and Financial sections. I'm totally lost there.

P.S.
Please remember to talk about the 2nd stage you mentioned.
Once again, many thanks for your help.

Properties / Looking For Holiday Apartment-cum-summer Home In Ikeja. by mona83(f): 11:35am On Jul 24, 2009
Hello NL-ers,
I need very urgently, a holiday home , kinda like the short-let thingies they have abroad where you get multi-room accommodation that comes with a fitted kitchen, maybe a washing machine, Iron, dining room, Such that you can live as though you were still in your own house. I've browsed and browsed gut most of the stuff i came up with are kinda dodgy. I even got to the address quoted by one of the so-called apartments and found that it was a factory that was located at the address.
To save me the trouble, please tell me of any decent and secure apartment that you have had a first-hand experience with or know someone who has. It should be in Ikeja, G.R.A. preferably and i'll need it for a month.

Thanks.

Literature / Re: How Much Can I Charge To Write For A Magazine? by mona83(f): 7:27pm On Jul 21, 2009
I'd really have loved to do it for free but i will not. This is because i've already done a lot of free work, free make-overs, articles etc, all in the name of "it's just a hobby". But i have since noticed, and if i may say so myself- i'm just as good, sometimes even better than those i see getting paid for their services.
@ Akin Alabi- I love writing, yes, but  there's no harm in getting paid while at it. I wouldn't have a problem writing free for a magazine owned by an Non Governmental Organisation. If you can however make me see the rationale behind writing for free for a magazine that's solely for the purpose of financial gain, i might be swayed.
Looking forward to your reply.

Akure's a dead end for stuff like that. I'm a make-up artiste operating from Lagos and Ibadan. I've had to come to Akure, Ekiti environs on 7 occasions to do-up brides. I don't believe they would have called me if there were competent hands in the town.

Fashion / Re: High Cheek Bones by mona83(f): 12:12am On Jul 14, 2009
High cheekbones are hawwwwwwwwwwttttttttt!!! I'm a make-up artist, so i should know. Their faces are such a delight to work with. The way the lighting hits and bounces off their faces at a 45-degree angle, during photo shoots is just amazing. With these babes, Adobe photoshop can take a hike cos ordinarily in regular-faced babes, an amount of editing work goes into giving them an appearance of a hollow or shadow just below the cheek bones. But in these babes, it's naturally occuring. Then, of course, there's the blush application part, whereas you have to ask regular-faced girls to smile before you can apply the blush, with the high cheekboned girls, there's no missing it it all, you are just spot on.

The lights love them.
The cameras do them justice.
They are a Make-up artist's delight.
Literature / How Much Can I Charge To Write For A Magazine? by mona83(f): 10:39pm On Jul 13, 2009
I just secured a brief to feature as a columnist in a new glossy magazine. The mag is an upbeat, lifestyle mag. My column is mainly to address issues concerning women in their different roles as girlfriends, wives, mothers etc. I will also have another column covering the latest trends in fashion, make-up, fashion police kinda stuff. I've done stuff like this before, but it's mostly been as a hobby and as such, my services were pro-bono.

The publisher is aware of my ignorance as per going rates and will most likely capitalize on this when we meet to discuss my fees, by asking me to say how much i want. I do not want to short-change myself, neither do i wanna scare him off by quoting too high rates. So, please advise me. Thanks.
Literature / Re: Which Books/Novels Are You Currently Reading? by mona83(f): 10:17pm On Jul 13, 2009
I read about 3 to 4 books at any given time. Right now, i'm very into Nigerian authors, so i'm reading Chimamanda Adichie's Half of a Yellow Sun, Kaine Agary's Yellow-Yellow and Helon Habila's Waiting for an Angel. waiting on the queue are: Wole Soyinka's memoirs- You must set forth at Dawn, Buchi Emecheta's Second-class citizen and iJohn Avanzini's 30-fold, 60-fold and 100-fold Christian. And oh, how could i forget dear old Robert Greene, i've read most of his titles- Art of Seduction, 48 Laws of Power, but i look forward to reading them again. The principles therein, are even more true and potent today, than ever before.

Yeah, Femu. Thanks. So i thought too, I went into it thinking i had nothing to lose, i felt at the very worst, the new registration would be disallowed, but that just goes to show that even "almighty" Facebook is not error-proof, I only wish i didn't have to be the "scape-chick". I've tried severally to reach the Facebook admins to have a chat one-on-one, all to no avail. Sent mails but they still have not responded.

To whoever is reading this, i really need your help. That's why i'm posting this in the "tech-ies" zones. I was trying to register my aunt. She is internet-illiterate and doesnt even have an email, so i tried to open one for her but the network was bad, so it wouldn't go through. Eventually, i (foolishly)thought to use my own email for her with a different password from my own.

My thinking was that i would use my own email to help register her on Facebook, then she would get her own email later and change her details.
If i had known i would get my fingers burnt in the process, i would not have bothered. Eventually, i created the Facebook account for her, then tried to log in to my own but I WAS DENIED ACCESS, i had become a stranger in my own home. I have tried all sorts, including deactivating my aunt's acount, changing passwords and contact email, all in a bid to rectify the error but i only made a mess of things. Till this moment, i have been unable to log in and its as though a huge chunk of my life has been bitten off. I miss chatting with my friends who are thousands of miles away from me. i miss hooking up with the long lost relatives that Facebook re-united me with, i miss replying my friends' comments on my pictures, i miss Facebook.

I also have loads of pictures and literary works on there that i can ill-afford to lose. So, please HELP!!!!
