Get a metro card and map. with that you can move cheaply through all the major malls and using the tram will take you to some of the beaches and Dubai Marina.

Good evening to all the the house. This might sound funny or stupid a friend told me to come to dubai and buy my residence for two years. The estimated cost is one month visa 200k. ticket. 150k. Residence permit 1.5.m, 50k accommodation and 200k for up keeping.. Total 2.1m. He said one can then be able to apply for better job and would not be tide down with any company. That the money would be made back easy within 16months. Any useful information on this will be appreciated as the money involved is a bit much

Yes and No...Yes because Qatar isn't as developed as UAE generally and No because you can actually come with a visit visa and search for job. The visit visa is extendable for a period of almost one year but the process is completely different from that of the UAE. The person would have to be sponsored by a relative with good work status. That's the law but people usually just look for another person with similar names. Don't say I told you so
There's a delicate balance between the number of job seekers and the % of opportunities. The government also has its own ways of affecting the tilt in this balance. For example, sometimes, they'd just stop issuing visas for certain nationalities when they feel their grip is getting too strong. Indians, Philipinos and a few other countries are having a hard time getting work visas now. They also discourage companies from hiring certain nationals except they really need them with some policies. I learnt recently that for a company to employ a fresh Indian from outside now, they have to deposit some money (about 10k I think) with the government for each person. Currently, for any company interested in getting contracts especially government connected, they have to show in their employee list that they have people from many countries. Due to this, they have no choice to employ blacks, arabs, other asians apart from Indians and so on. It's quite a complex thing to understand within a short period of time. Overall, I think the level of the construction industry in the two places contributes to this wage difference. There are more contracts here than there cos of the level of development.

Yes ma'am. Wish I could be of help beyond this. If he was in Qatar with that, it would have been a sealed deal. That's why I asked him to just try if they can consider him there. Something I've noticed over time is that wages are quite lower in U.A.E compared to Qatar. Some of the companies from U.A.E come here with that kind of plan but I don't miss the chance to tell them to their face that we play by different rules here in Qatar.

By the way, for anyone in these parts or planning to come down, you can start taking intensive trainings in Project Management. If you can have 25%-30% of how to use Primavera P6 software, you will be smiling to the bank soon

Yes I have noticed the pay is generally more in Qatar, but on the flip side its not as open and welcoming as UAE. You cannot just come on a visit visa and search for a job in Qatar, right? This reduces the pool of applicants available in Qatar unlike in the UAE where more and more job seekers troop in daily.

When I got there(king faisal rd, suzuki showroom,behind d showroom complex) the name of d place is one al awaiel employment and manpower supply services, I sat down facing d lady,she told me it's a safety and security officer position in a contracting company( 3500aed basic + 400aed feeding allowance, accommodation + transportation + free medical + two days off + free zone blablabla...). she asked if I was ok with d offer, if I was dat I shud fill a form with my personal details and sign, requested for a copy of my passport and visa with two passport photos. There was also a deposit of 300dirhams. pls house, what do u thin?

Smh. You just fell prey to a very well known scam in the UAE. There are many of them in Sharjah and Ajman. After paying the deposit you will not get anything from them.

I don't think there is a maximum cash restriction for travels to Dubai. However, it will be wise not to hold too much foreign currency so they don't suspect you of money laundering and also so you don't get robbed.

The fact is no one can guarantee you will get a job in your field or at all. Its all a mixture of preparation and the Grace of God. You seem quite knowledgeable in your field so your Cv should look presentable even without have GCC experience (which is valued like Gold here in such fields).
Try searching online for companies in your field and submit your Cv. Also register on job sites and submit your CV.

hi guys, got my medical result yesterday, now am waiting for emirate id to come out bfor i proceed to nxt stage.

i applied last week wednesday. how long does it take to come out? nd the phone i used for d registration is now blocked(i got d sim from a foolish Nigerian @ d airport), i went to du office, they asked me to provide those guys, so i jejely got another sim, so the only way to track d emirate id now is via their website.
