The former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Soludo has shown a high level of inconsistency in his recent utterances on national economic issues. He needs to be cured of the diarrhoea of the mouth before he infects more people with his penchant for pointing finger at a man that the world has acknowledged as a true democrat, former President Goodluck Jonathan. Professor Soludo should know that he cannot smear the image and character of a leader and man who is people-oriented and considers the lives of the people over and above his own personal ambition. He cannot rubbish a man who is being honoured all over the world; a man who is celebrated and who will be celebrated by those who see themselves as political students in generations to come. Soludo should go back to his not-so-far-away days as a CBN governor…what did he achieve? How true and sincere was he back then? Was it not the same Soludo who ran CBN and after he left Sanusi Lamido Sanusi came and discovered that certain banks were not even at par with industry standards? And the banking industry was run very shoddily and no different from microfinance banks and discount houses. Here is the same Soludo running Jonathan down and claiming he ran CBN like Idi Amin. Let’s us take some time out and think for a minute, Charles Soludo has no moral standing to make outrageous derogatory remarks like he has on Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Soludo can never be taken seriously, especially as he sounds more and more like a broken record these days; and one who likes to listen to the sound of his own voice. Such a person should only be ignored! www.leadership.ng/opinions/492828/attack-jonathan-soludos-sign-mouth-diarrhoea |
part of Primate Ayodele 2016 prophecy "In probing Jonathan, Buhari will end up shooting himself in the leg. What I mean by that is that as he tries to trouble Jonathan, it will cause problems. He will only be able to hit corruption, but will not make much impact. In the process of the corruption battle, some people who are close to Buhari will be indicted. That is why I said that Buhari will shoot himself in the leg" www.nairaland.com/2828312/primate-ayodele-unveils-prediction-2016 |
The Committee for the Defence of Democracy (CDD) has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by the federal government to arrest former President Goodluck Jonathan over frivolous allegations surrounding the purported 2.1 million dollars arms deal. The group described this latest move by the APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari as the height of the series of blame that the new administration has continued to put on the last administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. It asked President Muhammadu Buhari to stop blaming his predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, for Nigeria’s problems, while urging the government to instead focus on delivering dividends of democracy to Nigerians, as promised during the electioneering campaigns. “It is already eight months in the life of the Buhari government and all we have continued to hear is that our problems were caused by the last administration, without anything pointing towards a rescue plan by this government.” In a statement signed by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Akindele Lawson, the group stated that if the President continue piloting the affairs of this nation with so much focus on the past, then there will be a danger ahead as there may be no indication of any change, which Nigerians have earnestly anticipated from the APC government, in any near future. On the so called arms probe by the President Buhari’s government, the CDD stressed that it was wrong for anybody to claim that ammunition and military hardware were not bought for the Nigerian Armed Forces during President Jonathan administration, as it asserted that the current probe is nothing, other than the probe of the campaign funding of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which is just being sensationalized by the APC government. “It is on record that despite the difficulties that the Jonathan administration faced in procuring arms from some western nations over alleged human rights issues, he still managed to source sizable quantities of platforms, weapons, bullets and other ammunition for the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force, which were used to tackle insurgency to a near end before the end of his administration.” “There is no doubt that the purchase of massive arms and ammunition in the last one year of the Jonathan government made it possible for the military to root out Boko Haram terrorists from all parts of Yobe and Adamawa States, leaving only about three local government areas in Borno State, partially under the control of the insurgents, as at May 2015” the statement further said. The group, therefore, challenged the Buhari’s administration to deny the fact that the Nigerian military was still using the arms and ammunition procured by Jonathan to fight in those problem areas, insisting that Buhari’s government has not bought any new arms till date. Finally, the CDD, wishes to remind President Buhari and the APC, that elections are over and less focus should be placed on Dr. Jonathan or his party, PDP. Our economy is sliding towards a recession and several uncertainties are already trailing our National polity, as it is time for the APC government to face the business of governance and stop the blame game. www.leadership.ng/news/492804/arms-deal-cdd-raises-alarm-planned-arrest-jonathan |
CHANGE what do u expect when even President buhari can not spell PRESIDENT. |
Miffed by the comment made by the former interim national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande on the status of the 2016 budget, the Senate on Saturday fired back fired back at him, saying he was expressing his frustration for not being able to impose his lackeys on it as leaders. Akande had described the claim that the 2016 budget was missing from the upper legislative chamber as an indication of the indiscipline that produced the leadership of the Senate. But in a statement by its spokesman, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, the Senate urged Akande to check his records properly so that he could see that “at no time did the Senate say the 2016 budget was missing”. According to Abdullahi, it was regrettable that a man of Akande’s status “would be responding to mere speculation without cross-checking his facts or worse still eager to latch on to any opportunity to bring to disrepute the leadership of the Senate because he failed to get his choice candidates elected”. This, he said, was despite the fact that the legislative house had insisted in several official statements and press interviews by its principal officers that the budget was not missing but that two different versions are now available. The statement made available to LEADERSHIP noted: “We have said it several times that the budget was not missing. That two versions of the details of the budget exist and this is no longer in doubt as the Presidency has equally admitted this. “We expect a man of Akande’s calibre to cross-check his facts and take us up on our words. That he decided to ignore the facts and make comments on speculations is regrettable. He is a man who had served in government. He is a leader of the party with the majority in the Senate and he has several channels of cross-checking facts as against speculations”. The senate spokesperson said contrary to Akande’s description of what happened as indiscipline on the part of the leadership, the position of the present Senate leadership was a demonstration of the regime of openness, transparency and accountability that reigned in the current upper legislative chamber. In the past, he said, such a development would have been swept under the carpet. He added that the statements by Akande was another expression of the frustration that the former Governor of Osun State suffers for not being able to impose his lackeys on the Senate as leaders. His words: “Chief Akande is still sulking after his group’s failed attempt to impose certain individuals as the leaders of the Senate last year. So, he was in a hurry to condemn the leadership. We want him to know that the leadership of the Senate can only emerge through the provisions of the constitution and the standing rules of the institution. As a democrat, Akande should know that once the majority has elected the leadership, all parties to the contest ought to accept the decision. “To continue belly-aching and working to undermine the institution because of the failure to get one’s choice candidates elected cast doubts on his democratic credentials. It appears he is only a democrat when he has his way. We advise him to move on and let us help the legislative institution to focus on its agenda to serve the people in line with the much needed change that President Muhammadu Buhari promised the nation”. www.leadership.ng/news/492341/tension-bayelsa-armed-policemen-invade-southern-ijaw-community-post-election-violence |

There were noticeable tension in Bayelsa on Saturday following the armed invasion of the Peremabiri Ccommunity in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state by over 200 armed policemen over alleged cases of post-election violence and shooting of the paramount ruler of the community,Progress Neverdie. The post-election violence in Peremabiri community which has become subject of controversy between loyalists of a frontline ex-militant leader, Comrade Eris Paul also known as General Ogunboss and the state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, is provoking fears among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. While concerned indigenes of the Peremabiri community absolved the ex-militant leader, Ogunboss of blame and denied any political undertone to the crisis, the loyalists of the state governor, Hon. SeriKe Dickson are alleged to have resolved to hold the ex- militant leader responsible due to his political affiliation strong stance against the re-elevtion of the governor. Sources within the Peremabiri community on Saturday confirmed that the combined team of combatant marine police, mobile policemen and men of the state owned special cecurity outfit known as Door Akpoor. It was gathered that the arrival of the armed security men at about 10am on Thursday, provoked fear among indigenes with many running away to neighbouring communities. The armed men, dressed in black, came to the community in four gun boats and armed with heavy weapons. A community elder, Rowland Kiente and the member of the Community Development Committee(CDC), Keepwell Isiah, confirmed the development by telephone, describing it as an unwanted invasion. Comrade Keepwell Isiah said tbe move by the state government and the Nigerian Police is unwelcome and political. “Though the communal misunderstanding that led to the injury against the Paramount Ruler has been settled, the invasion has led to our people running out. This is a peaceful community and if we want police protection,we would have called for it,” he said. Contacted on the development, the spokesman of the Bayelsa Police Command, Asimin Butswat, confirmed that the deployment of marine police and mobile policemen to the community, but said it was on the request of the indigenes. “You know we have been witnessing some disturbances in the community for some time. And the police responded by deploying some personel to arrest those found culpable in the crisis rocking the community. It is a rescue mission to arrest those ex- militants accused of perpetrating violence in the Community,” he added. www.leadership.ng/news/492341/tension-bayelsa-armed-policemen-invade-southern-ijaw-community-post-election-violence |
Chevron Nigeria Limited and other oil companies in the riverside areas of Delta state are shutting down their operations on Saturday after another wanton destruction of oil facilities crippled a large portion of production. It was gathered that the major crude and gas line to the Chevron Tank Farm in Escravos were hit overnight by militants in the wake of Government Ekpemupolo’s face-off with the EFCC. Although Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo) denied responsibility for the earlier attack on Friday morning, source in the area and security operatives believe that he is masterminding the attacks. The attack started hours after an arrest order was issued on him by a Federal High Court. It was gathered that major assets of Chevron and other indigenous oil firms in the area were hit in the overnight attacks. It was learnt that the gas line from Olero creeks to Escravos were hit. The main crude line from Makaraba through Otunana, Abiteye and others were also reportedly put out of operation by the hoodlums. As at the time of this report on Saturday morning, it could not be ascertained if the fire that erupted at Odidi pipeline after Friday morning attack had been extinguished. www.leadership.ng/news/492291/tompolo-militants-intensify-attacks-oil-pipelines |
Government Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo as said that Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari will not know peace if the Niger Delta region knows no peace. Tompolo who was reacting to allegations that he attacked oil installations in Warri area of Delta state threatened the number one citizen of Nigeria after stating his readiness to corporate with the federal government. The reasons why the ex-militant drew the Niger Delta region into his differences with the federal government is unclear but the influential warlord might be on collision course with the government over his statement. “Well, I am sure this is what President Buhari is looking for. He should allow the people of the Niger Delta Region to know peace, otherwise he will not know peace as well,” Tompolo said in the last paragraph of his statement issued by Paul Bebenimibo, his media aide. Reacting to allegations that he was responsible for bombing oil installations in Warri, he said: “I am not responsible for the attack and I condemn it as a dastardly act. I am aware that some persons might want to destroy oil installations and link it with me that was why I said before time that I have nothing to do with it. “I could not have gone ahead to carry out such action knowing that every finger will be pointed at me because of my case with the Federal Government,” he added. www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/01/16/buhari-will-not-know-peace-if-niger-delta-knows-no-peace-tompolo/

APC's candidate in the Bayelsa state governorship elections, Timipre Sylva, has rejected the cancellation of election results in the South Ijaw LGA. Speaking at a news conference on Monday in Yenagoa, the former governor said the INEC decided to cancel the poll because he won by a large margin that made him the winner of the election. “We had an election two days ago. In Ekeremor, there were widespread shootings; they beat up people; the minister’s house was under siege for a long time. It took a team of security operatives to repel the assailants, yet election was held in Ekeremor. “When APC protested, the protest was waived aside; our protest died like a candle in the wind. “In Sagbama, we did not see election materials. As I speak, one of the chieftains of our party is lying critically ill. The APC protested vehemently, nobody heard our protest. “In Nembe, where the APC won, they quickly cancelled two wards, 8 and 9. We protested and our protest was rejected. “The election ab initio was set up for the PDP to win. In Southern Ijaw, we have a good showing there, and the election is cancelled. “When the REC saw that the APC was leading, he cancelled it. This is very unacceptable to our party. If they want us to accept it, they must cancel the elections in Ekeremor, Sagbama, part of Ogbia and Nembe.” Sylva maintained that the REC had no power to cancel election that had taken place, stressing that it was only the Returning Officer that had the power to announce a cancellation. Sylva said the APC was going to collate all results in SILGA and head for court. www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/timipre-sylva-reacts-to-inconclusive-bayelsa-gov-elections.151420/ |
President of Ijaw Youths Council, Mr Udengs Eradiri on Monday said the decision to cancel the rescheduled governorship election in Southern Ijaw Local Government of Bayelsa may have averted crises. He said in Yenagoa that the tension generated by the rescheduled poll could have turned to an ugly situation. “We expect honourable conduct of a new election on a date to be fixed. We are also happy that the Independent National Electoral Commission lived up to expectation and should continue to be an unbiased umpire’’, he said. Eradiri commended international and local observers for insisting that the right thing should be done to ensure free and fair election. Rep. Fred Agbedi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), agent at the collation centre in Yenagoa, said the cancellation was in order. He said the election in the area was marred by violence, intimidation and snatching of election materials. Agbedi (PDP-Ekeremor/Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency 1), said election should not be conducted in an insecure atmosphere, where voters could not exercise their civic rights. The All Progressives Congress (APC), rejected the cancellation of election in Southern Ijaw Local Government. Mr Denis Otiotio, the party`s agent at the collation centre, said it objected to the cancellation because they were on course for victory. He said “the cancellation of the election in Southern Ijaw is an attempt to manipulate the result in favour of a particular party’’, he said. www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/bayelsa-poll-pdp-says-yes-to-cancellation-apc-says-no/ |
