Eleven All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in Kogi state have endorsed Mohammed Audu, son of the late Abubabar Audu, threatening to oust any other governor who emerges other than their choice.

Maman Rabiu, a member of the Kogi state house of assembly, who spoke on behalf of the APC lawmakers, said the younger Audu has the clout of his father and is capable to lead the state.

“We present to the national leadership, Prince Mohammed Audu to replace his late father. It is not because he is the first son, but try him, he is very intelligent and equal to the task. With him, we will have the Kogi of our dream,” he said.

“It is not a threat, but we told them that we have no intention of washing our dirty linen in public. Removing somebody is just a two minutes job for us as lawmakers in the state.

“We are the legislators and have told the national chairman our position that in any case anybody is smuggled in contrary to what we present to them, we know the best way to remove him.”

Rabiu advised the party to accept its recommendation, saying James Faleke could still be retained as the deputy governorship candidate.

“We are the electorates and we know why we are here. There will be no solution to this problem without giving us listening ear. Prince Audu was the man who went through primary before nominating Faleke as his deputy,” he said.

“We are not asking Faleke to stay away from the ticket. We equally worked with him during the campaigns. What we are saying is that it should be Mohammed Audu/Faleke ticket. The two of them must work together.”

‎The Kogi governorship election was declared inconclusive on Sunday, the same day Audu died.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had requested APC to send a substitute candidate, and fixed December 5 for a supplementary election, but the party is yet to present any candid‎ate.

On Thursday, Faleke, the late Audu’s‎ running mate, asked INEC to declared him governor, just as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) urged the electoral umpire to declare Idris Wada, its candidate winner of the November 21 governorship election.

The 39th US President, Jimmy Carter has showered glowing encomiums on Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing Goodluck Jonathan as a symbol of democracy on the African continent.

President Jimmy Carter made the remarks while receiving Jonathan at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum located at the Carter Center in Atlanta. The two former Presidents were said to have held a fruitful meeting at the Carter Center where they held a wide-ranging discussion on global issues and shared views on how to promote peace, democracy and good governance in Africa and the world.


“President Goodluck Jonathan is the symbol of democracy in action. You set an example that other African leaders should follow.”

Jimmy Carter also praised Jonathan for organizing a transparent election and easily conceding defeat and handing over to the opposition.


By so doing, he said that “Jonathan showed his deep democratic commitment”.

Goodluck Jonathan in reply said that his actions while in office were informed by his belief in a peaceful, transparent and people-oriented governance, adding that Africa can only move forward through democracy and good governance.


He commended President Carter for the exemplary manner he had in his post-presidential life, adding that he was inspired by Carter’s commitment to causes that advance the path of humanity. Goodluck Jonathan and Jimmy Carter both share a common experience as one term Presidents and have both retired involuntarily from politics while rededicating their lives towards making the world a better place.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed PREMIUM TIMES exclusive report on Boko Haram’s attack on Nigeria’s 157 Battalion attached to the Multi-National Joint Task Force in Baga, Borno State.
Citing a reliable military source, PREMIUM TIMES reported that at least 105 soldiers including their commanding officer were feared missing after the attack on Wednesday.
“Gudunbali was attacked this morning and some weapons were captured from the battalion. Two officers and 105 soldiers are still missing,” our source said.
“They captured a T-72 tank from the unit and some artillery weapons were also captured. The commanding Officer of the battalion is yet to be seen but no one has been confirmed dead yet,” our source said.

We also reported that soldiers of the Multi-National Joint Task Force stationed at Baga, Borno State were also attacked in Geringiwa, about four kilometres away from the headquarters of MNJTF.

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Army, Sani Usman, a colonel, who had earlier said enquiries on the matter should be directed to officials of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, called our reporter after the story was published to confirm the incident.

“I want to confirm the incidence at Gudunbali but the details you provided were not correct, and Baga has never been attacked,” Mr. Usman said on telephone.

“The unit attacked is within the area of responsibility of the MNJTF and troops are now organising to counter the attack,” he said.
He said the Theatre Command of the 7 Division would provide the details of the attack during a press conference arranged later today in Maiduguri.

Mr. Usman however did not give any details to counter our account of the incident.

Oluremi Tinubu, senator representing Lagos central and wife of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), raised a storm at the senate on Wednesday when she sat on the chair meant for Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president. Tinubu, who wanted to second a motion on the approval of the Lagos state development policy operation loan, earned the rebuke of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators, when she stood up to speak while standing in the deputy senate president’s corner.

The lawmaker bowed to the pressure of the PDP senators and left for her seat to second the motion. However, she came back to Ekweremadu’s seat, who was not present at plenary, after she had seconded the motion. She sat giddily in the deputy senate president’s seat, intermittently conversing with Aliyu Ndume, senate leader. After a brief debate on the report of the adhoc committee on local and foreign debts on a $200m loan sought by the Lagos state from the World Bank, the senate gave its approval.

Earlier, Danjuma Goje, a senator from Gombe state, had urged the senate to ensure that it did not approve loans that would leave huge debt burdens on future governments, but added that he was in support of the approval of the loan for Lagos state government. Making his contribution, George Sekibo, a senator from Rivers state, implored the senate to not only approve the loan, but also monitor how the money would be spent.
