Politics / Rebel Govs May Soon Dump PDP For APC by morgist(m): 11:03am On Oct 17, 2013
The ongoing efforts to reconcile aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party members with the Bamanga Tukur-led National Working Committee of the party, appear to have finally hit a brick wall.

A hint of this emerged when Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, told a visiting All Progressives Congress delegation on Wednesday, that himself and the six other aggrieved PDP governors, might dump the PDP for the “warm embrace of the APC.”

The other aggrieved governors otherwise known as rebel governors are prominent members of the New PDP led by Alhaji Abubakar Baraje.

They are Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Rabiu Kwakwanso (Kano); Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara); and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto).

It was learnt on Wednesday that the National Vice-Chairman North-East of the APC, Umar Duhu, who led the delegation to the government residence in Yola, offered Nyako a piece of kola nut and an invitation in accordance with the northern tradition.

The Director of Press to the Governor, Ahmad Sajo, who confirmed the development to our correspondent, said Nyako expressed his desire and those of his colleagues to join the opposition APC as “soon as the situation in the PDP becomes unbearable.”

Sajo said, “The governor told them he is committed to supporting them; he admires all the APC governors for the way they are focused in their performance.

“He abhors the injustice and impunity that are going on in the PDP and he also frowns on the fact that someone would emerge as the party’s candidate at the local level and the PDP will change the name of the person in Abuja and submit a different person’s name.”

He quoted the governor as saying, “These are the reasons (injustice and impunity) why we may have to dump the PDP, if they will not change their ways.

“We may definitely be pushed to the warm embrace of the APC because there is so much injustice in the PDP.

“It is a party which renders your efforts null and void after you have gone through the process and secured nomination; a system that takes over your property without giving you an opportunity to defend yourself for whatever infringement you may have committed.

“The PDP operates a system that does not respect other people’s point of view; a system that operates on a pre-determined position on all matters is not healthy for democracy.”

Earlier, Duhu had told the governor that they were at his residence after consultation with the APC leadership to formally invite him to join the party.

Attempts to get a response from the PDP were futile as its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, neither picked his calls nor replied to a text message sent to his mobile phone.

A phone call to his deputy, Alhaji Abubakar Jalo, indicated that his set was switched off.

Meanwhile, information available to The PUNCH indicates that members of the New PDP have scheduled a series of meetings for Thursday(today) and Friday to prepare a unified response to the renewed clampdown on some of their colleagues by the Federal Government.

A member of the faction, who was privy to one of such meetings, confided in our correspondent that the meetings had become necessary in the light of recent developments.

The member, who spoke in confidence, said, “We have to meet to review our strategies; it has become obvious that the Tukur-led PDP is not interested in a peaceful resolution of this crisis.”

Celebrities / Tonto Dikeh In Trouble As Movie Producers, Directors Stop Giving Her Roles by morgist(m): 12:12pm On Jul 29, 2013
Tonto Charity Dikeh has become a force to reckon with in the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood. The actress and singer from Rivers State is of the Ikwerre tribe. Born June 9, 1985, Dikeh competed against other contestants on a reality TV show called The Next Movie Star where she was the first runner-up.Hitz writes about the many controversies of the sultry actress and why she should take it easy for a blossomed career.

Nollywood, is second only to the Indian film industry in number of movies produced each year and it has produced world class stars like Omotola Jalade Ekehinde, Genevieve Nnaji, Olu Jacobs, Pete Edochie, the late Sam Loco Efe, Nkem Owoh and many others.

Dikeh says that after her second movie ‘Holy Cross’, more movie directors and producers were willing to cast her, and she has appeared in scores of movies ever since.

The actress has received criticism on many a movie she starred in making her a hot cake for producers who want her to be part of their movies due to her logic in script interpretation.

The enchanting young actress still have a lot in store for her and she could achieve whatever she want to achieve in the industry.

Nollywood is just a step in the right direction to become a world renowned. She has the charisma, physics, face and other attributes anyone could think of to become a star. But the crazy incidents of late is not telling good of her image. It could be a strategy to be hyped by the media, but controversies easily kills a celebrity image.

Hitz can exclusively report that there is a current gang up to frustrate the career of actress, Tonto Dikeh, who is also a darling to controversies.

Tonto who hugs, chews and pampers controversy in a very helplessly controversial manner is said to have bitten more than she can chew in recent times following her rude and troublesome behaviour while on set. A certain top movie Director who wouldn’t want his name mentioned, was directing a movie on a set at Asaba with Tonto Dikeh playing lead in the movie and ever since he came back to Lagos after the shoot, he has not stopped complaining about how rude and abusive Tonto played out herself all through at the location.

According to him, “Tonto Dikeh is such a rot and lacks every bit of home training, apologies to her parents. ‘I tried to control myself in order not to disrupt the set, but I got upset over the kind of insult Tonto, heaped on the makeup artiste on the set. A woman who is old enough to be her mother” ‘Are you stupid, don’t you know what you are supposed to do? Must I remind you before you’ll know you are supposed to make me up’? Those were said to be Tonto’s words to the already fuming makeover artiste who was at the verge of throwing back some punch lines at her.

At this point, the director was said to have lashed at Tonto seriously and washed her in, out, left, right and center until the situation was later calmed down by the producer of the movie. This was sequaled by a certain report made available to this medium that due to her controversial lifestyle and appetite for trouble, Tonto’s colleagues now isolate themselves from her, as well as some of her very close friends.

Meanwhile a check by this medium has revealed that top movie producers and directors have teamed up to frustrate Tonto Dikeh due to mannerless attitude while on set. According to them, “that little brat, apart from her addictions to marijuana and cigarette, doesn’t give a damn about whose ox is gored, she abuses, throw tantrums and fight on set at every slightest provocation and we must make sure she’s humiliated. She seem to have gathered to much weight and has hurriedly forgotten those days when she used to go on bended knees for a ‘waka pass’ role in movies. We’ll teach her a lesson’. They vowed.

On the other hand, records have it that the ‘Mother Controversy’ as Tonto is now widely addresses by colleagues doesn’t enjoy the best of relationship with most of her colleagues. Among whom are: Mercy Johnson, her arch rival, Mamma Gee, even though she was credited of introducing her to the industry big time, Genevieve, although the genesis of their disagreement was not stated, Nonso Diobi for rebuking her over abusive comments on Mercy Johnson. Other names given are, Nuella Njubigbo and Monalisa Chinda, all of whom are producers’ top demands in movies.

Meanwhile producers and directors, who have worked with her, have described Mercy Johnson as a down to earth person, cheerful and cool-headed to work with. Sources who spoke exclusively to www.myemag.net claim it’s the reason MJ as Mercy is famously addressed is of a very high demand in movies in the past few years, especially now that Nollywood is shifting base to Asaba in Delta State, Nigeria.

Mercy Johnson, married to Odianose Okojie, blessed with a beautiful baby, Purity has countless of movies to her credit and has won to herself, too numerous fans within a short period of time.

Politics / Re: Underage Marriage Is Our Right As Muslims – Asari Dokubo Spits Fire by morgist(m): 3:13pm On Jul 25, 2013
I strongly supported Mujahid asari dokubu on this.In Nigeria we have many uncountable problems and none of them is early marriage. As a matter of fact early marriage the solution to about half of our problems. For those who wonder if I can give my daughter(s) out in marriage at the age of 9 or 13, I tell you most honestly, I can give her out at the age of 6 if I want to and its not your business. This is because I am a Muslim and I follow the example of the best of mankind, Prophet Muhammad.

In Islam, marriage is not only about sex, it is about family and helping one another in achieving their goals, which is the attainment of Paradise.

In Islam, a girl can be given out in marriage as early as 6 years old, but consummation of the marriage can only be done when the girl becomes physically mature and she gives her consent to it because unlike English law, it is not permissible for a man to rape his wife in Shari'ah Law.
So what can anybody tell me?

~ I live in a city where young girls at the age of 12 have already became serial fornicators and cannot count the number of man they've had sex with.
~ I live in a City where primary school children disvirgin themselves behind toilets on Valentine day.
~ I live in a city where young girls flood the street at night looking for men that would give them N500 to have sex with them.
~ I live in a city where parents send their daughters out overseas to prostitute and send dollars down.
~ I live in a City where Government officials pick undergraduates from University car parks with Coastal Buses to wild sex parties.
~ I live in a city where abortion is so common that even a Chemist shore owner can perform abortion with just N2,500.

These are your sisters and daughters, and this should worry you and not senate child marriage law. So ask me again why I support early marriage and I will slap the Jinn out of your head.
Politics / Underage Marriage Is Our Right As Muslims – Asari Dokubo Spits Fire by morgist(m): 12:42pm On Jul 25, 2013
Former militant and national leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteers Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, has stated his position on the Underage Marriage Bill recently approved by the Senate.

The controversial activist on his Facebook page disclosed his postion on the bill.

Dokubo-Asari wrote, “People should learn to respect other people’s sensibilities. We, Muslims have the right to marry when we want or give out our daughters at any age we want. It is not your business and the law must respect our right to do so.

Anything short of that is an infringement on our rights. We did not ask you to marry ladies of that age or give your daughters out in marriage at that age. Plzzzzzzzz respect our sensibilities.”

Politics / Merger: APC To Unveil Chair, Sec Monday by morgist(m): 11:20am On Jun 07, 2013
Barring unforeseen circumstances, the interim committee of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) will emerge next week. Its chairman and secretary will also be named on Monday as the battle to wrest Nigeria from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) begins.

The leading opposition parties -- the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) -- have joined forces under the platform of the yet-to-be-registered APC.

LEADERSHIP gathered that when some prominent leaders of the opposition met at Lagos Lodge, Asokoro, in the wee hours of yesterday, the meeting resolved that the national chairman, national secretary and the treasurer of each of the three parties should constitute the national interim officers. Those officers would meet on Monday to pick the national chairman, the secretary and the treasurer that would be the link between the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“We have not named anybody as chairman for the interim committee. What happened at the Lagos Lodge was to ask the national chairman, national secretary and the treasurer of each of the three parties to constitute a committee. This committee would be our link with the INEC.

The fact of the matter is the Electoral Act does not recognise interim officers, but since we need three people to sign our letter seeking INEC’s approval, we asked the nine-man committee to pick three among them as the signatories,” an insider told LEADERSHIP.

According to him, the committee would be in charge until 30 days after the letter to the INEC, and if the INEC did not reply, it means the merger has been duly approved. It is then that the interim national officers would be named, he said.

“This committee would write a letter to the INEC seeking the approval and, if after 30 days, the INEC did not raise any objection by not writing to us, it will be assumed the merger has been approved. This is when the interim officers that would organise the convention would be named. What really happened was that when we had the merger committee on ground, each of the three parties had chairman of the merger committee; so we had three co-chairmen but we had to ask them to give their report to their parties when we noticed that some members of this merger committee had been trying to entrench themselves with a view to positioning themselves for the coming convention.”

Former minister of foreign affairs Chief Tom Ikimi was the ACN chairman, merger committee; former presidential candidate for the ANPP in the 2011 general election, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, stood in for the party; and Alhaji Garba Gali, former deputy governor of Bauchi State, was the chairman merger committee for the CPC.

Our source disclosed that, with this new development, “those who constitute the committee would not be allowed to seek any election at the convention since they are the ones to organise it. That is democracy for you”.

When asked to confirm the story doing the round that former FCT minister Mallam Nasir el-Rufai had been named interim National Secretary of APC, the source, a national officer of one of the parties, faulted the claim. “Nobody has been named as a national officer. Reporting that el-Rufai is the interim national secretary is misleading. When the offices are zoned, and the CPC is given the national secretary, then, el-Rufai may be if his party gave him,” he satated.

Those that were said to be at the Lagos Lodge meeting included Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, General Muhammadu Buhari, Chief Bisi Akande, Lai Mohammed, and Chief Tomi Ikimi.

Politics / 14 Govs Shun Northern Governors’ Forum by morgist(m): 11:10am On Jun 07, 2013
Fourteen out of the 19 members of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) yesterday boycotted the Forum’s meeting in Kaduna.

But five governors attended the meeting. They were the chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu, Sule Lamido ( Jigawa), Muhktar Ramalan Yero (Kaduna), Tanko Al-Makura (Narasawa), and Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe).

State governors represented by their deputies include Kwara, Kano, Kogi, Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi states while Plateau and Benue were represented by their secretary to the state government.

While Adamawa and Taraba states, according to Gov Aliyu, sent apologies, the governors of Katsina, Yobe and Bauchi states were conspicuously absent.

Although some of the states were represented by their deputies and SSG, it was however gathered that the absence of some of the governors might be connected to the outcome of the larger Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) election in which the NSGF chairman was alleged to have played a major role.

Apart from Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State who claimed to have withdrawn from the membership of the Forum, other governors such as Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Ibrahim Shema (Katsina), Ahmed Abdulfatah (Kwara), and Idris Wada (Kogi) said nothing.

LEADERSHIP authoritatively gathered the governors, especially governors Suswam and Shema, shunned the meeting so as to join Governor Yuguda in protest over the way and manner some governors of the region allegedly betrayed the interest of the north during the NGF election.

A source told LEADERSHIP that there was supposed to be an election for the chairman of the Forum, but it could not hold due to poor turnout.

According to the source, “Some governors who refused to attend the meeting were protesting against the decision of the NGSF chairman and other governors who betrayed the consensus candidate of the Northern Governors’ Forum at the NGF election.

When contacted, the Plateau State commissioner for information, Mr Abraham Yiljap, said Governor Jang could not attend the meeting because of lack of trust in the Forum.

Reacting to reports on Governor Yuguda’s withdrawal of membership from the NSGF, Governor Aliyu said, “The situation is that when people feel aggrieved, you don’t go back retaliating on what they have said. You said that is what he said; he did not write to this meeting and it is a voluntary organisation and we have resolved as a group to follow this informally. You did not hear any one of us reply him back the way you heard him.”

Governor Aliyu, who also spoke on the recent proscription of Boko Haram and Ansaru by the federal government noted: “We support the declaration of state of emergency in the three states; we support the committee on the peace and reconciliation, and the proscription of the Boko Haram and Ansarul.”

On the issue of the ban of almajirai system by the Senate, Aliyu said, “Some of us said you don’t just go theoretically and ban a culture, unless you prepare ground for how to absorb it.

“I give an example of my state. I did a census of all the almajirai schools in my state and I have over 3,725 schools with an average of 120 per school. So when you look at that, it is not a question for me to wake up and ban it I have to work out how to absorb the children, how to absorb the Malams that are in that school.”

Other issues contained in the communiqué was the resolve of the NSGF to have an economic plan emanating from the states, zones and the region that will form the basis for economic development of the north.

Northern Govs’ Forum cause of NGF crisis - Yuguda

Bauchi State governor Isa Yuguda yesterday took a swipe at his colleagues from the north. He told them to stop playing politics of evil and betrayal, saying all the crisies and the negative comments made against governors of the 36 states of the federation should be blamed on the Northern States Governors’ Forum.

Yuguda stated vehemently that governors of the northern states are the major culprits of the crisis rocking the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), challenging the chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum and Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu to come out boldly and deny before Nigerians that the 19 northern governors came out with Jang as the consensus candidate of the NGF.

Speaking to State House correspondents at the presidential villa yesterday, Yuguda said, “That is why I said all the crises and all the unfortunate comments made about the governors today -- the fault should be traced to the Northern Governors’ Forum because we are the culprits. And that is why I say on his honour,: let the chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum come out and tell Nigerians… So if that had been done all these things that we see wouldn’t have happened. That is why I say, as far as I am concerned, if I will sit with my colleagues and we take a decision and you go and do a different thing, I’m not part of those kind of things and I as a person will not attend the meeting, but my deputy governor can attend on behalf of the people and government of Bauchi State.”

Politics / Akande, El-rufai May Head APC Interim Leadership by morgist(m): 10:38am On Jun 05, 2013
There are indications that the current National Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Alhaji Bisi Akande, and the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai, may be picked to serve as the interim chairman and national secretary respectively of the proposed All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ahead of Wednesday's meeting of the joint merger committees of the merging opposition parties, party leaders and the APC governors in Abuja, THISDAY gathered that both the ACN National Leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, and Congress of Progressive Change (CPC) leader, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, held last minute consultations on Monday in Kaduna.

The opposition coalition had proposed an interim national executive with the chairman to be nominated by the ACN while CPC and All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) are to fill the posts of national secretary and deputy national chairmanship slots respectively.

Forming of the interim party structure is a key requirement for the registration of a new party with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

THISDAY learnt that the three parties are making last minute efforts to fine-tune their positions on the composition of the party structure as well as putting together the necessary documentation so that the group can file its application at INEC.

It was learnt that one of the major challenges facing the merging parties is the inability by INEC to be clear on what the law expects of them with regards to the registration of the merger.

One of the members of the merger committee told THISDAY that the coalition was frustrated when in reply to a letter seeking clarity on the registration requirements, INEC wrote back urging the committees to go and seek proper interpretation of the Electoral Act.

“You know party merger has never been carried out in Nigeria's political system before. INEC is not helping matters, we approached it to assist in providing clear guidelines on the requirements for the registration of APC, but the commission instead asked us to go and interpret the law on our own,” the committee member said.

A source told THISDAY Tuesday that while ACN may choose to retain Akande as chairman of the new party, CPC is considering a choice between el-Rufai and a Kano-born politician, Hamid Ali, for national secretary.

Ali is said to be in hot contention for the interim job based on his grassroots popularity in Kano State, which incidentally, has a high voter population.

However, the source said el-Rufai may have an upper hand, having won the hearts of the leadership of CPC as a very sound and articulate person.

The source said CPC has decided to allow Buhari and other Board of Trustees (BoT) members to make the final choice for the APC interim leadership structure.

Meanwhile, THISDAY gathered that both leaders of CPC and ACN, Buhari and Tinubu, met on Monday at the private residence of the former military head of state in Kaduna to tie-up outstanding issues on the merger, including the sharing of the interim national offices of the party.

A party source told THISDAY that the meeting was also meant to allay fears of any kind, especially against the background of the sudden emergence of campaign posters canvassing support for a Buhari presidential ticket on APC platform.

The source said the meeting between Buhari and Tinubu lasted till about 9 pm, following which the former Lagos State governor left for Lagos.
