European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Manchester United Win Premier League Title by morgist(m): 10:03pm On Apr 22, 2013
Sir Alex Ferguson has clinched the 13th top-flight crown of his 27-year reign at Old Trafford, and takes the Red Devils' overall total to 20, two more than arch rivals Liverpool

Manchester United have won the Premier League title after securing a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Monday evening.

It is the club's 20th league crown, and Sir Alex Ferguson's 13th of his 27-year reign at the club.

The Red Devils moved 16 points clear of Manchester City, who have five games left and 15 points to play for, after Robin van Persie's first-half hat-trick secured a comfortable win over Paul Lambert's side.

The Dutchman, who has now moved one goal ahead of Liverpool's Luis Suarez in the race for the Premier League's Golden Boot, struck his first of the evening from close range after just two minutes, while a stunning volley from the edge of the area was followed by another effort inside the box.

Manchester City clinched their first Premier League crown on goal difference on the final day of last season, but Sir Alex's team came roaring back during the current campaign and have blown their title rivals out of the water.

They went top of the table following victory against Arsenal on November 3, and despite being temporarily overhauled by City midway through the month, they quickly reestablished top spot and have not looked back.

Robin van Persie's last-minute free kick provided a dramatic victory over City at the Etihad Stadium in December and a six-point gap to go with it, and their late comeback against Newcastle on Boxing Day sent an ominous message to those at Eastlands.

United ended 2012 seven points ahead of their nearest rivals, and the gap would only grow as the new year wore on.

After City drew away to Liverpool and lost at Southampton in early February, United went 12 points clear by beating Everton at Old Trafford, with Sir Alex electing to play a strong side despite preparing to face Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The Scot admitted that the opportunity to open up such a large gap was too important to pass up, and although his side eventually exited Europe at the hands of los Blancos, they effectively put City out of sight by mid February.

And when City slumped to defeat at Everton on March 16, allowing United - in the midst of a six-game run without conceding a league goal - to move 15 points clear.

Sergio Aguero's superb goal at Old Trafford in a 2-1 City victory cut United's lead to 13, while Carlos Tevez secured victory over Wigan as United drew at West Ham a week later.

But City's defeat at Tottenham on Sunday presented the Red Devils with the chance to sew it up against Villa, and they made no mistake against Paul Lambert's side.

United had seven titles to their name when Sir Alex took over in 1986. The Scot won his first in 1992-93, and 20 years later he has guided his side to their 20th league crown.

In winning their latest trophy, United move two titles clear of Liverpool, who won their 18th and most recent in 1990.

Celebrities / Rihanna and Chris Brown break up for good? Friday, 12 April 2013 00:00 by morgist(m): 12:07am On Apr 12, 2013
Hollywood's most infamous on-again, off-again music couple has allegedly ended their tumultuous relationship.

According to reports Rihanna has had enough of "chasing" Breezy around trying to turn their status from complicated to something more substantial. But it looks like Rihanna won't but updating her Facebook status anytime soon!

Sources have said that Rihanna claims she will always love Brown but she's at the point in her life where she needs to move on and "focus on her career and business ventures".

Rihanna makes it sound pretty convincing seeing that she declined to attend her man's court date hearing on Friday, April 5.

Brown showed up with only one woman standing by his side ... his mom. After beating Rihanna in 2009 Brown has been forced to participate in community service but the only thing Breezy will be picking up now are the pieces to his broken heart! So much for the summer wedding we were all looking forward to.

According to reports there is no other man in RiRi's life that caused the two to break up. TMZ received information from a source that claimed it's not out of the ordinary for the couple to publicly end their relationship and get back together shortly after.

Do you think Breezy will go back to his old ways and resort to his old flame for comfort? When Brown and Rihanna were broken up the aspiring model Tran was there to let the 23-year-old "Run It" singer lean on her.

"She was my friend through it all," Brown continued. "She was there to fill and really take care of me."

Brown explained that Tran stood by him during the lowest point of his life but when he and Rihanna decided to get back together, Breezy didn't hesitate to break up with her.

"It was a friendship more than a relationship," Brown said. "She'll always be my homie. I just broke it to her 'I'm still in love with this person. I love you but it's just hard for me'. I just had to be honest."

Although Brown admitted to dating two girls at once, which we assume he's referring to Tran and Rihanna, the singer insists that he has changed. But Rihanna could care less if Breezy cheats on her again.

Rihanna And Chris Brown Break Up, Back Together: Was Breezy Keeping Secrets From RiRi? 'Nobody's Business' Singer Dates Two Girls At Once!

"She's not tripping on [Karrueche] like that no more. It's cool," a source said about RiRi. "Her thinking is that if he f*cks up and slips, that's on his conscience."

Politics / Is This Really True About Nigeria? by morgist(m): 11:58pm On Apr 11, 2013
Nigeria is a place where SEX is free and LOVE is costly.

Where loosing your Blackberry is more painful than loosing your virginity

Where if you don't cheat on your partner, you are a MUMU

Where bathrooms have become a photo studio

Where getting a Blackberry phone is greater than acquiring a B.SC. Degree

Where Relationships are better than Marriages.

Where you will not be called a real woman if you have not committed like 3 abortions

Where you will not be called a lady if you have not slept with up to 10 different men

Where Condoms have replaced the normal balloons small children used to play with.

Where prostitution is now a job to be reckoned with

Where shooting humans is now a daily business where people prefer coup ploters, rogues and liars as leaders

Where ladies prefer to be with a man in a jeep crying than to be riding with a man on a bike laughing and happy

Where any musician who hasn't sang about women and sex no be correct musician

Where dressing naked is a sign of beauty than dressing decently

Where beautiful people are better actors and actresses than talented people

Where our so called leaders buy expensive cars to people who are already millionaires as wedding present While million

Nigerians go to bed daily without food.

IS THIS A GREAT NATION?

There is a joke about a morgue attendant who was so used to seeing dead bodies that one day, when a supposedly dead body started twitching, his response was, "this is the morgue, not the emergency room".

He promptly smothered the twitching body until it was well and truly dead. "That's more like it", he said, as he sat down to guard the cabinet full of dead bodies and to wait for new arrivals.

In many ways, the way Goodluck Jonathan has handled the affairs of Nigeria since becoming president can be likened to that of the morgue attendant. And worse still, Nigeria under his administration has grown to become a vast, sprawling mortuary where deaths and dead bodies do not seem to matter at all. In the aftermath of Jonathan's visit to Maiduguri, the trouble northern city under attack by Boko Haram, in security operatives reportedly dumped about 70 bodies at the morgue, up from the daily average of 10 or 20.

Like the morgue attendant in the story, when about two years ago, the Borno state Elders Forum met the president and asked him to order the withdrawal of troops from Maiduguri to enable them take a different approach against the jihadist group, Jonathan flatly refused. In the two years since, how many more lives have been needlessly lost in the fighting? His attitude seems to be, "I'd rather preside over dead bodies than save lives".

Accepted, Jonathan took over a country that was severely distressed. But what is the job of the president? For someone who has spent the last 14 years in power at the state and federal levels, the excuse that he is still studying the situation is one of the lamest apologies in political history. Either deliberately or inadvertently, like the morgue attendant, Jonathan's actions and inactions all seem geared towards killing Nigeria off once and for all.

Why was it that when he was eventually shamed into visiting northern Borno and Yobe states by opposition governors, his response to calls for an amnesty for Boko Haram was, "We can't grant amnesty to ghosts". Within a week of his mindless retort, another 25 Nigerians had been blown to smithereens in Kano. Since he can't grant amnesty to ghosts, perhaps, he can grant amnesty to dead bodies?

Incidentally, more and more Nigerians are beginning to suspect that the deteriorating security situation may be more than the handiwork of Boko Haram. More than ever, there are growing fears that some, if not many of the attacks attributed to Boko Haram may be the work of other "ghosts" beyond the militants, whose ultimate objective may be to divide Nigerians further along ethnic and religious lines for political advantage.

The very nature and timing of some of the attacks on churches and some ethnic groups lend credence to that supposition. Is this the same Jonathan who told us on his inauguration that, "Today, our unity is firm, and our purpose is strong, our determination unshakable. Together, we will unite our nation and improve the living standards of all our peoples whether in the north or in the south; in the east or in the west. Our decade of development has begun. The march is on. The day of transformation begins today. We will not allow anyone exploit differences in creed or tongue, to set us one against another?"

Perhaps, Nigerians should not be surprised at what Jonathan has become. From the supposedly timid state governor and vice president, we now have one of the most calculating and thick-skinned leaders, totally deaf to criticism. The only thing on his mind seems to be to retain power beyond 2015 while allegedly helping friends and cronies accumulate wealth. After all, when he was asked about politicians declaring their assets in public, he said: "The issue of public asset declaration is a matter of personal principle. That is the way I see it, and I don't give a damn about it, even if you criticise me from heaven."

Which is why the condemnations of the pardon he granted to Diepreye Alamiesegha, a former state governor who stole millions of dollars and jumped bail in the UK after disguising himself in as a woman, are likely to fall on deaf ears. It is why, even with a daily income of $224 million, Nigerians are among the poorest people on earth. It's why we have 68 million people unemployed; why Nigeria is the most corrupt nation in the world and why studies show that a child would be off being born in Somalia, Mali, Chad, South Sudan and other war-ravaged countries than in Nigeria.

Jonathan's well-paid and ill-mannered army of internet and media warriors may sing his praises to high heavens and work hard to distort any discourse about the woeful failures of their paymaster, but they cannot hide the fact that, under Jonathan, Nigeria has become a vast mortuary where death and tragedy are routine. And like the morgue attendant, the president seems intent on smothering all remaining signs of life.

Politics / FG Lifts Flight Suspension Of Dana Airlines by morgist(m): 12:44am On Mar 19, 2013
Nigeria's Aviation Ministry has lifted a brief flight suspension against Dana Air, the airline involved in the country's deadliest plane crash in the last 20 years.

The ministry said on Monday it reversed a Saturday decision to suspend Dana flights over "safety issues" with one aircraft after a meeting with the Nigerian airline's staff.

"At the end of the meeting, the suspension of the operations of the airline which took effect last Saturday was lifted. The airline is to resume normal operations immediately," Joe Obi, special assistant to Aviation Minister Stella Oduah, said.

In June, Dana Air flight 992, a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 , crashed into an apartment block in a populated Lagos suburb, killing 153 people on board and 10 others on the ground.

Dana was suspended then, but was allowed to start flying again in September, despite an incomplete inquiry into the cause of the crash.
