Computers / Windows 10 Is Spying On Almost Everything You Do – Here’s How To Opt Out by morgist(m): 5:52pm On Aug 09, 2015
Windows 10 is amazing. Windows 10 is fantastic. Windows 10 is glorious. Windows 10 is faster, smoother and more user-friendly than any Windows operating system that has come before it. Windows 10 is everything Windows 8 should have been, addressing nearly all of the major problems users had with Microsoft’s previous-generation platform in one fell swoop.

Oh ya Windows 10 is all shiny and new and you just love playing with it..
And surely you've wondered why MS is giving 10 away for FREE
Why? Because YOU HAVE JUST BECOME THE PRODUCT !!! cheesy

But there’s something you should know: As you read this article from your newly upgraded PC, Windows 10 is also spying on nearly everything you do.

It’s your own fault if you don’t know that Windows 10 is spying on you. That’s what people always say when users fail to read through a company’s terms of service document, right?
Well, the Microsoft’s 12,000-word service agreement which Some of it is probably in English stated clearly that you can’t steal Windows or use Windows to send spam, and also that Microsoft retains the right to take possession of your first-born child if it so chooses. And that’s only one of several documents you’ll have to read through.

Actually, here’s one excerpt from Microsoft’s terms of use that everyone can understand:
"We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to."

If that sentence sent shudders down your spine, don’t worry. As invasive as it is, Microsoft does allow Windows 10 users to opt out of all of the features that might be considered invasions of privacy. Of course, users are opted in by default, which is more than a little disconcerting, but let’s focus on the solution.

i have break things down into four main bullet points that will guide you through regaining control of your personal data.

First, you’ll want to open Settings and click on Privacy. There, you’ll find 13 different screens — yes, 13 — to go through, and you’ll want to disable anything that seems worrying. I notes that most of the important settings can be found on the General tab, though other tabs are important as well. For example, you’ll definitely want to adjust what types of data each app on your system can access.

Next, users should consider dumping Cortana. Yes, the voice-driven assistant is easily one of the best new features in Windows 10, but it also plays fast and loose with your data. As a result, many users will find that the benefits do not outweigh the risks.

For the third task, you’ll have to venture outside the confines of your PC and hit the web. Perhaps this is a good opportunity to check out Microsoft’s nifty new Edge browser. In it, click on this link and set both “Personalised ads in this browser” and “Personalised ads wherever I use my Microsoft account” to off. This will disable Microsoft’s Google-style ad tracking features.

The last tip is one that most users will likely forgo, as it is a bit excessive. I recommends removing your Microsoft account from Windows 10 completely and using a newly made local account instead. This way, Microsoft doesn’t grab hold of all your data to sync it across machines.

Politics / FG Withdraws Abati, Obua, Former Adc’s Official Passports by morgist(m): 5:25pm On Aug 01, 2015
No fewer than 12 close aides of former president, Goodluck Jonathan have been stripped of their official passports.

They include former Special Adviser to the President on Media Reuben Abati, former Chief Security Officer, Gordon Obua, and former Aide-de-Camp, Col. Ojogbane Adegbe.

The decision to withdraw the official passports of the former aides of Dr Jonathan was to prevent misuse and conflict with new aides and officials of President Muhammadu Buhari, who assumed duties on May 29, 2015, Saturday Vanguard reports.

The affected former aides, it was gathered, had returned the passports to the Presidential Villa preparatory to being handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS.

Nine other key officials of the Jonathan Presidency, who were also issued with official passports have also been stripped of the travel documents.

The development may also not be unconnected to ongoing probe of the Jonathan administration.

But the Nigerian Immigration Service has denied any hidden agenda, saying it was a normal routine.

NIS Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joachim Obua, said it was normal for officials of government to surrender their official passports at the end of their tenure.

“It is important for the position to be made clear that official passports are not the property of anyone holding it. Once you complete your assignment you have to return it to the NIS

Politics / David Mark Awards N500million Scholarship by morgist(m): 5:19pm On Aug 01, 2015
No fewer than 15,700 students in Tertiary and elementary schools in Benue State and beyond have so far benefitted from Senaor Daid Mark Scholarship foundation ( DMSF) for which about N600million Naira had been spent since 2004.

An Average of N50million naira is awarded as scholarship to students from primary to tertiary levels from Benue state and beyond annually under the DMSF.

The awardees included 14,703 students from various Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education as well as School of Nursing.

The beneficiaries are classified into five categories including students of tertiary institutions, Gifted girl child, Orphans and vulnerable children as well as special awards.

Distributing this year’s awards to beneficiaries in Otukpo, Benue state yesterday, the immediate past president of the Senate Senator David Mark restated his passion for education and wished that all citizens have access to quality and functional education.

He therefore promised to sustain the scholarship foundation no matter the challenges, stressing ” I cannot play politics with this foundation. I don’t need to . For those who criticize me, they should not bother or worry . They can simply do theirs.

” I believe that if every other person who is well placed under takes to to train at least two uneducated citizen annually, we would have wiped out illiteracy in our society in no distant time.”

He reiterated that the scholarship now under a foundation would outlive him because “it is a legacy dear to me.”

Senator Mark used the occasion to express appreciation to the federal government for approving the new university of medical sciences sited in his Otukpo, Benue state country home.

To the benefitting students, Senator Mark counseled them to shun all forms of vices such as cultism and examination malpractices saying” you would be our pride and worthy future leaders if you continue to excel in your academics.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of DMSF, Professor James Alachi said the scholarship scheme which started in 2005 with a token of N5,000 per student has increased to N20,000 per beneficiary in 2015 . This he explained is beside the over 1,000 indigent students on full scholarship.

For the 2014/2015 academic year, he said that the sum of N50million was paid to recipients of the DMSF.

Politics / Buhari Orders Release Of N4 Billion To Fight Boko Haram by morgist(m): 8:08am On Jun 15, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the immediate release of $21 million (N4.2 billion) to the Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF.

The money is to be released within the next one week to the multi-country military agency fighting the insurgent group, Boko Haram.

Nigeria made a pledge of $100 million as part of funds needed by the MNJTF- made of troops from Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon – to fight the war against Boko Haram.

Speaking while chairing the Peace Security Council meeting at the ongoing 25th African Union summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, Mr. Buhari said it is time to put an end to the crisis in the African region before the 2020 target.

“Our continents is inundated with conflicts of diverse forms. They include the crisis in Burkina Faso, Mali, Libya, Central Africa Republic, South Sudan, and more recently in Burundi.

“As you are aware in 2013 during our 50th anniversary celebration of our union, we as African leaders committed ourselves to the objective of silencing the local guns in Africa by 2020.

Mr. Buhari said though achieving a conflict free continent within five years might seems doubtful with the numerous conflicts persisting, efforts must be made for peace to exist.

He spoke about the Boko Haram crisis and the global dimension to the crisis and added that countries need to partner to curb the crisis.

“In particular, we are witnesses to the rampant destruction of homes, roads, communications lines, vital infrastructures and displacement of persons not to mention terrible loss of lives.

“The Boko Haram insurgency has extended its reach to Nigeria’s neighbours but is not necessarily limited to these immediate countries as terrorism is a global phenomenon with linkages across the globe.

“In this regard, the member countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and Benin, met recently where far reaching decisions were taken to immediately put into operations the Multinational Joint Task Force.

“To this end, the summit approved the immediate provision of $30 million for the Multinational Joint Task Force.

“Consequently out of the pledge of $100 million which Nigeria made to the Multinational Joint Task Force, I have directed that $21 million be released within the next one week,” Mr. Buhari said.

Mr. Buhari lamented the situation in South Sudan and Burundi and criticised their leaders for what he termed “bickering”.

“Today’s meeting of PSC, which is to discuss the situations of South Sudan and Burundi, requires us to put these situations in proper context. The people of these countries are suffering while their political leaders are bickering among themselves.

“I believe that it is incumbent upon us as leaders to always place the interest of our countries above narrow and personal interest.

“It is therefore my expectations that at the end of this summit, the PSC will come out with a united message to call on all parties to act in the interest of their people and the entire continent.

“We must change the face of Africa, we must give hope to the hopeless.

“The time to do so is now as we look forward to the much await 2020 to deliver a continent that is at peace with itself, prosperous, a global partner and a democratic show case,” the President said.

Politics / B/haram: Buhari Orders Release Of $21m To MJTF by morgist(m): 5:56pm On Jun 14, 2015
Says we must give hope to the hopeless

President Muhammadu Buhari says he has directed that $21m out of the $100m Nigeria pledged to the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) be released within this week to defeat the Boko Haram insurgency.

He disclosed this in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday while presiding over a meeting of the African Union Peace Security Council at the ongoing 25th AU summit.

The president told the gathering that Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger were, under the auspicies of the Multinational Joint Task Force, already working to defeat the Boko Haram insurgency.

"In this regard, the member countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and Benin met recently where far reaching decisions were taken to immediately put into operations, the Multinational Joint Task Force. To this end, the summit approved the immediate provision of $30m for the Multinational Joint Task Force.

"Consequently, out of the pledge of $100 million which Nigeria made to the Multinational Joint Task Force, I have directed that $21 million be released within the next one week", President Buhari said.

He noted that the continent was faced with conflicts of diverse forms as manifested in the crises in Burkina Faso, Mali, Libya, Central Africa Republic, South Sudan and more recently, in Burundi.

Buhari reminded the leaders of the commitment they had made, during the African Union 50th anniversary in 2013, to the objective of "silencing the local guns" in Africa by 2020.

He, however, stated that with just five years remaining, the prospect of realizing that objective appeared doubtful "with pockets, individuals country and the continent as a whole".

He said: "We're witnesses to the rampant destruction of homes, roads, communications lines, vital infrastructures and displacement of persons, not to mention terrible loss of lives. This is true, I must add, of the north-east of Nigeria where we're dealing with the scourge of Boko Haram".

He said though the insurgents had extended their reach to Nigeria's neighbours, their activities were not necessarily limited to those immediate countries as terrorism is a global phenomenon with linkages across the globe.

According to him, given this dimension of global terror, there is a need for the continent to accordingly act in brotherhood and partnership to fight its common goals against agents of evil.

The president also stressed the need to immediately change the face of Africa and give hope to the hopeless.

"We must change the face of Africa. We must give hope to the hopeless. The time to do so is now as we look forward to the much awaited 2020 to deliver a continent that is at peace with itself prosperous, a global partner and a democratic showcase", he said.

Buhari suggested that since the meeting was aimed at discussing the situations in South Sudan and Burundi, the leaders should put those situations in a proper context.

According to him, "the people of these countries are suffering, while their political leaders are bickering among themselves".

The president said it was incumbent on African leaders to always place the interests of their countries above "narrow and personal interests".

He said it was therefore his expectations that at the end of the summit, the AU Peace Security Council would come out with a united message to urge all parties to act in the interest of their people and the entire continent.

"This is my first time of attending this meeting, AU Peace Security Council. I have the responsibility of preceding over this meeting by the virtue of the fact that Nigeria is the chairman for the month of June 2015. I am also pleased that you have responded positively to my invitation", Buhari had earlier told the gathering .

Politics / Buhari: My Tactics Against Boko Haram by morgist(m): 8:33pm On Jun 08, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that his administration is evolving fresh tactics and strategies to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency.

The tactics, he said, included taking concrete action to build a more efficient and effective coalition of Nigeria and her neighbors against the terrorist group.

Buhari spoke in Elmau, Germany, yesterday during a meeting with French President Francois Hollande after he had participated in the G7 Outreach Programme.

G7 is a forum of the world's seven most industrialized countries of United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan which meets annually to deliberate on global economy, governance, international security and energy policy.

The G7 leaders had earlier requested Buhari to prepare his "wish list" and come with it for their consideration in what is perceived as an excellent goodwill gesture towards him and Nigeria.

It would be recalled that issues bordering on security, anti-graft and economy had topped the president's wish list to the forum.

Buhari yesterday told his French counterpart that his government was totally committed to eliminating the Boko Haram insurgency in the shortest possible time.

He said Nigeria would welcome greater support and cooperation from France and other friendly nations for her ongoing efforts towards overcoming the insurgency as well as restoring full security and normalcy to areas affected by the sect's atrocities.

Buhari also stated that Nigeria would appreciate more intelligence on the Boko Haram's links with ISIS, movements, training and sources of its arms and ammunition.

This, according to him, is to facilitate the perfection of fresh tactics and strategies being evolved to overcome terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria and the sub-region.

Buhari told the French president that there was absolutely no link between religion and the atrocities of Boko Haram terrorist group.

He said: "There is clearly no religious basis for the actions of the group. Their atrocities show that members of the group either do not know God at all or they don't believe in Him".

Responding, Hollande assured Buhari that France would give Nigeria and her coalition partners greater support against terrorism and insecurity.

Hollande said this support would include military and intelligence cooperation to, as quickly as possible, overcome the security challenges posed by Boko Haram and its global terrorist allies.

Buhari also received similar pledges of enhanced support from Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada and German Chancellor Angela Merkel whom he also conferred with before departing from the venue of the G7 summit.

The French president had also commended Buhari's efforts towards galvanizing Nigeria's armed forces, security agencies and neighboring nation for more decisive action against the sect.

He had also urged greater bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and France in such other areas as trade, economic and cultural relations.

President Buhari, is due back in Abuja early today, according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

Politics / PDP, Mark Back Saraki, Dogara For Senate President, Speaker by morgist(m): 8:26pm On Jun 08, 2015
*** Anti-Gbajabiamila Reps write presidency
*** APC reaches out to aggrieved members

Senators-elect and House of Representatives members-elect on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, under the leadership of outgoing Senate President, David Mark, have resolved to cast their votes for Senator Bukola Saraki, as Senate President and Hon Yakubu Dogara, as Speaker, tomorrow.

If this decision is effected and it succeeds, it would have forced the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to taste the bitter pill the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, forced down PDP’s throat in 2011.

National Mirror authoritatively gathered in Kaduna yesterday that the decision of the former ruling party followed the outcome of APC’s mock election, which took place over the weekend where the party adopted Senator Ahmed Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as Senate President and House Speaker, respectively.

Many PDP House of Representatives members-elect confided in National Mirror that the APC mock election to pick principal officers of the National Assembly would never stand on the floor of the green and red chambers in tomorrow’s voting, as almost all of them have concluded arrangements to vote for Dogara for fairness, equity and independence of the House.

It will be recalled that after the PDP emerged the majority party in both the upper and lower legislative chambers of the National Assembly in the aftermath of the 2011 election, the then ruling party zoned the Speakership of the House of Representatives to the South West zone, zeroing on Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola as the preferred candidate.

The defunct ACN, under the leadership of former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, mobilised opposition lawmakers to truncate the zoning arrangements of the PDP, leading to the emergence of Aminu Tambuwal and Emeka Ihedioha as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively, a development many analysts said signaled the beginning of the end of cohesion in the PDP.

Informed inside sources disclosed to National Mirror that to the PDP, it is now payback time, as it is poised to avenge the 2011 truncation of its plan by Tinubu.

At a recent retreat for PDP lawmakers, Senator Mark was alleged to have told all PDP lawmakers-elect to remain in the party, threatening that anyone who defects would most certainly lose his seat as the full wrath of the law will come to bear on such turn coat.

He was said to have said that PDP has the numerical strength to determine what goes on in the National Assembly, hence the need for cohesion and unity of purpose among all its lawmakers.

These were said to have informed the position of the PDP senators and House members to play the spoiler for the APC, if it insists on foisting surrogates on the National Assembly.

Another source told National Mirror that “we are going to vote a neutral person, who can carry all of us along. It happened during Tambuwal and Akande Adeola’s speakership race.

“Both of them were PDP members, but when PDP took side against Tambuwal, some of us with the opposition voted for him, as he was an independent candidate against PDP’s anointed candidate.

“The same thing is likely to happen this time around. If not properly managed by the APC, what happened during Tambuwal will repeat itself on Tuesday.”

A returning PDP member of the House disclosed that Saraki would also enjoy the backing of PDP senators, including Mark.

This was just as National Mirror gathered that all former governors who are now senators-elect or returning senators have decided to pitch their tent with their former colleague, Saraki, without regard for party affiliation.

National Mirror also gathered that there is disquiet among senators and House members from the South West, who are not comfortable with Tinubu’s overbearing meddlesomeness in National Assembly affairs.

The grouse of this group centre on the Speaker coming also from Lagos, the same state that produced Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

They wondered whether Lagos is the only state in the South West, and as such must corner all major political appointments.

As a result, there are indications that South West lawmakers may not vote for the party’s candidates tomorrow, especially as voting will be by secret ballot.

The APC, after picking Lawan and Gbajabiamila, also picked the outgoing Senate Minority Leader, George Akume and Tahir Monguno as Deputy Senate President and Deputy Speaker respectively, in the election expected to come up tomorrow.

The consensus arrangement was done allegedly to checkmate Saraki and Doghara, whose supporters stormed out of the meeting the party leadership held with all elected federal lawmakers on its platform.

In a related development, the Consolidation Group, a circle of members of the House of Representatives supporting Hon. Dogara, yesterday kicked against Gbajabiamila’s mock choice for the Speaker’s position.

The group said it has written President Muhammadu Buhari, who had initially indicated no interest in the affairs of the National Assembly, but is being forced by the party leadership to support Lawan and Gbajabiamila.

Rejecting the party’s mock choice of National Assembly leadership at a press briefing yesterday, the group insisted that the exercise was marred by fraud and that it was against the party’s constitution; hence its decision to walk out and wait to elect Dogara as their own choice for Speaker tomorrow.

It said: “The 154 votes allocated to Gbajabiamila and three to Dogara showed that the party has made a mockery of itself. We walked out of the venue and yet somebody allocated votes to us. So, members of the public will understand how things have degenerated in our party.

“We never participated in that election. We rejected that election. The numbers that were allocated to us, we reject them. So, ask the party to please toe the path of honour and allow us to decide who will be our Speaker. The House should be left alone to elect its Speaker tomorrow.”

The group’s spokesman, Hon. Abdulmumuni Jibrin, APC-Kano, went ahead to tongue lash the party and Tinubu, alleging that the former governor of Lagos State was trying to pocket the House by ‘foisting’ Gbajabiamila, his protégé and lackey on them.

Jibrin said: “The number four citizen, Speaker of the House, cannot be pocketed by one individual because of his greedy disposition.”

He recalled that “in 2011 some of us were in the PDP and we saw what happened. We are not surprised that after huge intimidation, such numbers are being bandied about as the supporters of a candidate.”

Regretting and alleging that the APC was taking the reins of governance on very wrong footing, the group reiterated its resolve to choose Dogara as House Speaker

Politics / Buhari: I've Begun Process Of Ending B/haram by morgist(m): 10:27pm On Jun 03, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration has begun the process of eliminating the Boko Haram insurgency.
Buhari stated this on Wednesday in Niamey, the capital of Niger Republic, during an interactive session with journalists after discussing with President Mahamadou Issoufou.
"I am four days in office today and we have already started the process of ending the insurgency", Buhari said.
The president expressed confidence in the ability of the Nigerian military to overcome the Boko Haram.
He said the Nigerian armed forces had earned a good reputation across the world and remained a virile fighting force.
He said a five-hour meeting he held with the service chiefs and heads of security agencies Tuesday reviewed ongoing operations against Boko Haram for better results.
He said due to the peculiarities of terrorism, the movement of terrorists across borders and the unconventional nature of the anti-terror, Nigeria would continue to seek the support of her neighbours to overcome the sect.
Buhari affirmed that he visited Niger to seek more support from the country with a view to quickly ending the atrocities of Boko Haram.
He disclosed that he would hold similar meetings on security and the war against terrorism with the Chadian authorities after leaving Niamey today.
He said Nigeria would also needed the assistance of other nations and multi-lateral institutions to rebuild areas adversely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency and rehabilitate displaced persons.
Earlier the opening of bilateral talks between Nigeria and Niger,
Buhari had said that his administration would bring a new impetus and renewed commitment to the efforts to wipe out the menace of the Boko Haram insurgents.
