mbulela: So lab technologists are saints? What brings Lab technologist to the discussion thought he is a doctor. |
Chanchit: I don't know what to even say to this ur "dnt wash ur dirty linens in public" comment, where is the public..? Is he not a Nigerian..?I presumed the poster is a doctor. |
matify: No profession has monopoly of corruption.Hope so. |
Stop washing your dirty linens in public. It lays credence to a lot of allegations against doctors in administrative positions. |
Permit me to share my thought. These exodus will create room for creation of Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, extension of prescribing power to a whole lots of other professionals......even a change in course curriculum of the essential health professionals to practice more advanced medical procedures as is in some advance countries........Mozambique's midwife's performing cesarean section and some obstetrics procedures, clinical officers in East Africa etc.....comes to mind. By then it won't be about allowances but about being relevant. Do you want that? Are you going to run as a coward because the land is getting too hot for you? Fight your fight and help settle Nigerian health sector or your profession will go to the dogs. |
Sagamite: He possibly is.Arabian prince and highest average. |
- Health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu THERE had been problems with the training which also informed the ongoing doctors' strike. The suspension is with all Federal Government hospitals, State teaching hospitals are not affected. Government suspended the training to allow for critical investigation and come up with better ways to improve the training. As a group they have not been participating in the management of Ebola. So it is not as if they will be missed. However, the Federal Government decided to suspend residency training in only its hospitals, we have no power to suspend the " programme in Lagos state and I guess other states are still running, training is still ongoing in private institutions and all institutions that regulate and accredit medical training, so the National Post Graduate Medical College, and the West African Medical College will continue to do their work. But in those hospitals belonging to the Federal Government, we just feel that we needed the space, to take a look and make it better that it is so that we can get the best from the programme. It is not a permanent thing; it is just to allow us to appraise the programme. But of course, if you close a programme in a university, you cannot keep the students idle. They either go for another course meanwhile or they wait indefinitely. After that, we will restart the programme. He said he will be advised on the appraisal. We keep forgetting that no doctor has been stopped from working. Some of them may want to volunteer for this Ebola response. If any of them volunteers I would recommend them to the President. That is my job as the Minister of Health. In a university when you temporarily suspend a programme, why must you keep the students? WWW.medicaworldnigeria.com Please explain this. Thanks |
bushdoc9919: Not entirely accurate....NARD has been on strike for longer....and has had separate issues with the Government. It all come down to this again....power tussle. Call them in for a discussion to ascertain how they wish to achieve such. |
I hope resident doctors have a strong plan B that is quite unshakeable. Your men are at the top with these shiiiiiit happening I wonder what will happen when the reverse will be the case. |
bushdoc9919: The Resident Doctors are on strike under the auspices of NARD....and their strike started a month before NMA's strike.Which item number is listed on the 24 items for better facilities, you know they joined up their demands to make up the 24 demands without any references to better facilities. NMA is a collection of all doctors Union in Nigeria, NARD is part of NMA. So their demands are all and one. |
bushdoc9919: Here is the problem you have. You have a noble heart but what you sited here differs from the 24 itemized demands made by NMA,maybe because you are working in the private sector. |
These irks me from these article ........Professor of paralegal studies ?!!!!!!!! Paralegal is not a distinct profession. Paralegal or rather legal assistant. Who the hell do you think is a professor of paralegal if not the legal experts themselves. Using law as an analogue in argument like this is flawed because law is the only discipline and profession that exist on its own, while medical faculty has a lot of schools/ department/professions making it up. |
Trusall..... Thanks for this analysis. |
WWW.ekekeee.com a very funny website to cull a sensitive news like this. How credible is this news. |
onatisi: thanks bro. If I am dating a lady and suddenly she change to hare krishna worshipping by bringing incense and other indian things into my house I won't think twice to leave her. It is obvious that man still sees her as she was when they met. You're one hell of a 1001 ways to break-up expert....Damn. |
Above posts, the writer is talking about why NMA is alone not why residency is important which from various threads has been exhausted. |
Marrying a second wife will make me feel filthy, cheap and obviously an unserious irresponsible man among my peers. It will diminish the carefree fun filled lifestyle I presently enjoy with my spouse. Yet to imagine my life divided among two or more women who want equal legally sanctioned attention ? Must be very suffocating indeed. Why not divorce instead of sharing yourself as a male prostitute irrespective of what society say about it. This is for fun.....right? Please debaters should stay off my handle. Thanks. |
Judah1986: The remaining 2 days are registrars and senior registrars ward rounds. As for call duty, the 2006 guidelines of the Royal College of Obstetricians and gynaecologists does not require consultants to always be on ground. Let's not forget that they give lectures and training to medical students. They also have clinical meetings with the residents every morning to review the previous day's activities. SO THEY DO NOT LAZY AROUNDDon't try to rationalize this. Truancy cannot be quantified and excuses in a sensitive sector as health. Those are the duty expected of any consultants. |
Judah1986: Residency has been suspended in all hospitals be it state or federal government. Wherever there is residency is affected. I'm a registrar and I boldly declare that consultants do not lazy around. After they attend clinic, surgery and consultant ward rounds (which entails 3 out of 5 working days), is that lazying around? They were once in my shoes, they have suffered and have paid their dues therefore they should only be disturbed for cases that are beyond us....hence the title CONSULTANTI am quoting your post for posterity before the content is changed. Coming to a public forum like nairaland to unknowingly acknowledge the allegation of fellow Nigerians that consultants don't come to work is really something to be marvel at . If working 3 out of 5 working days isn't lazying about then I wonder what is. No matter how exhausted you are, you're duty bound to perform in your line of duty or resign. The bankers and all those that works in private firms will attest to this but the chase is different in government owned firms. Being a consultant equivalent of attending physicians in US entails a lot of responsibilities and less luxury time for self and family. |
dalhat14: obviously this is coming from someone who knows nothing about specialties and areas of specialisation in the field of medicine. Please stop exposing your lack of knowledge on these issue. Are residents permanent staff? NO Rather MO's and consultants are. Do you even bother to read your terms of contract as was spelled out in your appointment letter as a resident? |
Waiting for the reversal of the suspension though. FG is out with both guns blazing even Phantom is hysteric. |
dokilolo: resident doctors represent the largest body of doctors in the country. They are going g to be employed as locum. I foresee this will happen, so unfortunate indeed. |
Kcinho: I'm happy Nigerians are starting to appreciate doctors. This Ebola epidemic gives an insight to the hazards involved in the medical practice. It is no longer the WE situation now but all of "US".......you get!!!!!. Give us life Insurance, increase our hazards allowance, provide PPE for US not ME alone.......this is a team leader talking. That is team spirit. Who wouldn't like to work with and appreciate such a doctor. |
DonaldGenes: I like your username boyhmmmm, wonder why. Thanks anyway. Morotov cocktail----===petrol bomb. |
Ebola, what exactly are you after? Is it the complete extermination of the fraudsters, 419ERS, drug barons and all what nots from west Africa.? OR WHAT ......... Just know you thou that not all of us are among those listed up here. Pleaseeeeee. Don't quote me ooooo. |
Seems JOHESU guys are busy with Ebola, cos since it broke out their members has not been active. @ NMA is standing on a shaky ground now. Hope they get back in single piece. |
Primary health care center provider is different from primary care provider( first contact care giver). |
from ........Dr Ijabla Raymond , UK. |
adeoladrg: And wtf is this phantom?Hey, pharmacist I am just relaying Dr Phantom's assertions on privatisation and it doesn't correspond with the doctor's in the article. |
Phantom wrote it will favor doctors,..... .then why is these guy alarmed all of a sudden. |
If saying good morning is difficult , try...... Hi bro....or wa'd up dude. Handle your ish, please and ignore his sorry asssss. |
thegeneral84: Doctors work those long hours because govt hospitals employ very few of them. For instance, if doctors are to even attempt running two shifts, the hospital needs employ double their present doctor-workforce for this to even be possible. Do you think the government will consider such proposition? One of the demands of NMA was for government to increase funding for residency. This would enable hospitals have more residency slots (ultimately resulting in more resident doctors per hospital with subsequent reduction in workload); and putting in place necessary facilities (hospital facilities) for the training of said resident doctors. This would mean some form of upgrading of hospital facilities eventually leading to better health-care delivery.Did you see the hours the guy quoted, even US and UK can't sanction such. Unless they are doing two jobs at a time then that can be understood. |
