But the VC said he graduated in 2000![Aquote author=mikedimeji post=55020594]how are we suppose to believe that the particular page that shows BA Geography Third class is either 1998/1999 or 2000. I don't believe it.
Moreover, so if my name is not on the convocation list of my school it means I didn't graduate.
Please if u are yet to collect your certificate go and do so as soon as possible.
For those shouting he did NYSC in 1999 and graduated in 2000 please use ur head. Someone has already told us that they both served in Kaduna, they resumed camp in Aug 2000 and finished service in July 2001, u can still choose not to believe, but the picture below says ABU 1999 set, meaning people that graduated in 1999. Education / Re: Provost Of Health Sciences Oau Gives Reasons Why Mrs Aror Wasnt Admitted by morounkola(f): 1:08am On Dec 23, 2016
Mr. Adeseunfat, your coming out to explain this is highly appreciated. But looking through the explanation, it seems there is an error. I think it would be fair if Aror's case is reviewed. It looks like this lady has just been denied an admission unfairly.
Kendzyma:
This is coming from a nairalander with d Monika Adesegunfat

My name is Adesegun Fatusi, and I am the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, OAU, Ile-Ife. The case of the Aror Oghenerukewve has just been brought to my notice. To throw more light on her case, I will present the detaild fact here.

With a score of 320, her mark from UTME amounts to 80% (i.e. 320/400 x 100)
Her school cert results are: English A1 (=8 marks); Biology C4 (=5 marks); Chemistry B3 (=6 marks); Maths B3 (=6 marks); Physics C4 (=5 marks); Physics C4 (=5 marks); Further Maths B2 (=7marks), and Civic Educ A1 (=8 marks). That gives her 45 points, or 70.3% (i.e. 44/64x100)

So her overall average - as OAU did a combination of 50% mark from JAMB and 50% mark from School Cert - is: (80+70.3)=75.15% (which we rounded up to 75.2%).

With that mark, she ranks number 103 on the list of the students who took Medicine as first Choice.

The total admission quota for Medicine in OAU is 100, and that includes UTME and Direct Entry).

Clearly although Aror did well, her mark was NOT good enough to earn her admission on merit to read Medicine in Ife. Her mark of 75.2% is clearly below our cut-off mark (which was initially 78%, but we later reduced to 77.7%). Between her mark of 75.2% and 77.7%, by the way, there were 56 other candidates who scored higher than her but did not make the cut-off. For example, two people had 77.6%, two other people had 77.5%, four people had 77.4% etc.
Having presented the detailed facts about Aror's case, let me also help the many young Nigerians who may be accessing this site with more information on admission as I see a lot of misrepresentation, falsehood, and misunderstanding from the comments that various people had made on this case.

1. Admission into Nigerian Universities are considered on three grounds based on the nationally specified criteria (which I think ought to be reviewed now, by the way):
A. Merit =45% (This covers all candidates from the country - and it is automatic admission once you meet the cut-off mark)
B. Catchment = 35% (this refers to those in the states specified as catchment area for each University: For OAU, that is Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Osun and Ekiti)
C. Educationally disadvantaged states (ELDS)=20% = This refers to all the 19 Northern States, and Ebonyi, Rivers and Bayelsa.

So, someone from Delta such as Aror with 75.2% will not get admission into Medicine in OAU automatically as she is only considered on merit criterion and she does NOT meet the specified cut-off, but someone with the same mark from Kwara (which is in the North Central zone) may get automatic admission with the same mark based on the consideration of ELDS if 75.2% is the specified cut-off for ELDS for Medicine.

2. When a candidate chooses a highly competitive course like Medicine in a top-rated University like OAU, the competition is very intense. Believe it or not, many of the candidates that made our merit mark had an average of six A1s in school cert coupled with very high UTME mark (above 300). So, a candidate must carefully think over his choice of course and university. For example, if Aror had chosen ANY other course as her first choice for OAU, whe would have made the merit mark and gotten automatic admission, and she would have made the merit mark for Medicine on merit for most Nigerian universities too (but NOT OAU unfortunately).

3. Because of the high demand and competition for very limited spaces, the College of Health Sciences does not consider second choices as a general rule. OAU, for example, was only able to offer admission on UTME platform (Merit + Catchment + ELDS) to less than 3% of her applicants for Medicine, and less than 2% of her applicants for Nursing Science this year.

4. For cases like Aror where the candidadte has made a high mark but does not make the cut-off, what the candidate can sometimes do is to come to the University and try and see if he or she can be considered for other courses. A candidadte DOES NOT get considered automatically for a course she has not applied to in JAMB. A candidadte is ONLY automatically considered for the course he or she has applied for with respect to a particular university.

Unfortunately, Aror has left her case too late as all admission lists have been submitted for this year.

Yes, if you did not meet the criteria. Aror met the criteria. Based on the formula posted by Adesegunfat, it is clear OAU made a mistake in her score
BalogunIdowu:
she did very well in her jamb but like I have always not like the idea of using the o'levels to grade... that was what dragged her behind...

a lot of people back then that their o'levels was let my people go will find it very hard in meeting up n most are forced in taking another and like you know, they'll wanna pass well and patronise brother expo.

Education / Re: Provost Of Health Sciences Oau Gives Reasons Why Mrs Aror Wasnt Admitted by morounkola(f): 12:49am On Dec 23, 2016
The problem I see here is that someone in OAU calculated the lady's scores wrongly, whether intentionally or mistakenly, but it has cost her an admission. If she had come out earlier, this probably would have been resolved. Mr. Provost, I think Aror's case should be reviewed.

Your 3 year old sibling or child knowing his dad's phone number does not make him a super-hero neither is that girl less intelligent because she does not know. Your comment would have been the most sensible on this thread if it had highlighted the importance of teaching children their parents' contacts. Has the Nigerian Police ever assured Nigerians of objectivity in investigations?

This is so sad. To think that all those people stood by and watched the baby cried herself to death makes me remember that bible verse 'the heart of man is desperately wicked'. Worse still are the comments I read on this thread. The fear of police did not allow them touch the baby but none of them was compassionate enough to call the police or alert the welfare officials. I wonder how you all sleep at night knowing that you could have saved an innocent soul instead you stood by and watched her die. May God have mercy on us all.

Business / Re: CBN Insists It Won’t Reverse Restriction On Naira ATM Card Abroad by morounkola(f): 12:35pm On Dec 28, 2015
The same people who taught us demand and supply also mentioned things like monetary policy and fiscal policy. My brother, it is tough but for this economy to move forward these actions need to be taken.

The CBN should allow demand and supply to determine a fair price for the dollar. A price where supply can clear all demand; they do not need to deplete the Foreign Reserves to defend the naira. That is Economics 101.

The problem is that if they allow the exchange rate to adjust downwards, there will be serious backlash on the new administration. So they are allowing political considerations to influence their monetary policy actions.
Business / Re: CBN Insists It Won’t Reverse Restriction On Naira ATM Card Abroad by morounkola(f): 12:26pm On Dec 28, 2015
[CBN did not stop banks from receiving dollar cash deposits. The banks started it when they had too much cash in the system. CBN later adopted it the same way it is supported the restriction on the use of Naira ATM Card outside the country. At that time, the Nigerian banks put together had dollar cash of hundreds of dollars sitting in their vaults
It is a tough job for anybody heading the CBN at this time. The indices are not "smiling". If the CBN runs the way you want, we might find ourselves in a similar situation as Greece. Unfortunately, EU won't be there to provide succor.
Concerning your exams, you can open a form A to pay your fees. Education gets top priority for CBN's funds.
Are you writing CFA exams exporter to transfer the ]That explanation is plain ridiculous. How can the CBN blame the banks, when they (CBN) are the ones that stopped banks from receiving dollar cash lodgements into domicilary accounts. Where did they expect banks to get FX to meet their international payment obligations, especially with the meagre Dollar sells to BDCs.
---
For the records, I fully understand the constraint the CBN is facing from low FX inflow into the Foreign Reserves due to low oil prices, however, the restrictions imposed by the Central Bank are extreme. With a daily limit ranging from $100 to $1000, How do I make a payment of $1500 for my professional exams? Or am I not supposed to write such exams again because the government is on a fvcking mission?
---
I believe the current CBN Governor is a weak link in this administration, as he may not providing the president with the right monetary policy options/advice. While there are obvious benefits from the CBN policy, I strongly believe that the NET result of the policy on the economy will be negative.
I want to point out some things;

All this hate between SW and SE will not help this country neither will it help those perpetrating it - the energy can be used for more profitable activities.

Before we start defending or judging, check out the guidelines and laid down procedures for public sector expenditure. I am sure even in any structured organisation in the private sector, spending is tied to budget. One spent according to the approved budget the other did not.

One came out to defend hishexpenditure, accepted responsibility and even asked to be challenged. The other did not rather got an injunction to stop her prosecution.

One is a confirmed minister and the other is a senator. Ask yourself whose contribution impacts more on the progress of this country.

I am a Nigerian. It does not what tribe it is I appreciate good things. That's why I will pray that God help BRF to excel in this role. Nigeria and Nigerians will be better for it.

Proudly Nigerian

I have some concerns about this post.
1. The source - Reuben Abati's Facebook page.
2. From the picture, I can't see the woman's face properly so I can't conclude she is the one. Also, what angle was the picture taken cos the picture of the woman does not look like one taken from the "varagon" pictured below.
I wonder why people are killing themselves Instead of going out to get accredited.
Remember election no be war!!!
The future of this country should be of more importance to people rather than religious or ethnic affiliations. Most people passionate about GEJ or GMB are that way because of what they are getting or what they think they will get. Not necessary for the good of the nation.
I have a dream of what Nigeria I want my kids to grow up in but that dream is being threatened. My 2 year-old already knows when PHCN brings light. She smiles and claps. I pray she does not shout "up NEPA" someday.
This and other factors will determine who I cast my vote for today. Whether the person wins or not does not matter but my conscience will be clear that I have not helped to bring an incompetent and irresponsible government to power.
