@infobiz9ja, thanks for the good job you are doing. God bless you more and more.

Please can you help with vacancies for Industrial Attachment? I have a niece who is an undergraduate of Microbiology and wants to do a 6 months IT in Lagos.

Thanks in advance.

I quite agree with you on supposed editors not doing their jobs well. But I also have good news for you. I am a professional editor and have also worked for writers I met on Nairaland who can attest to the quality of my editing and proofreading services.

For further information you can reach me on motayo@krosdot.com or check my Facebook page - www.facebook.com/tayokrosdot.

If you also leave your contact here, I will send you a mail.

Orikinla: That her mother gave her N18, 000 for abortion.

This may be true. In secondary school, my friend's mum did family planning for her because it was a polygamous family and my friend was the only girl and her mum didn't want her to bring disgrace to her by having an unwanted pregnancy. She developed complications with the family planning, so it was removed. 11 months after, she gave birth to twins girls for a married Alhaji in her neighbourhood.
So if some mothers can take their daughters for family planning, a lot more will pay for abortions.

Did you quote your long post again just to correct one word? There are others you need to check too.

Nice write-up, poster. But I beg to differ with you. There are some things you can't just learn and being an editor is one of them. It takes more than knowing basic grammar or creative writing rules to be an editor, a good one as a matter of fact. It's the same with being a writer. There are times when no matter the great number of writing workshops you attend, if you are not a writer, you are not just it.

To be an editor, you need lots of patience and a creative mind, and an eagle's eyes too. There are some people who can never spot errors in writings, no matter the number of times they read the manuscript over and over again. Editing or proofreading is a skill that is first innate before you can begin to think of ways to develop it or become a professional at it.

If every writer can edit their works, why do you think professors of English language with decades of writing experience and medals to show for it still look for editors/proofreaders for their writings?

And just how do you intend to teach writers to edit their own works themselves when even you could not accurately proofread your own post here? For instance, it's "air" your mind and not "err".

Fine, there are basic "grammar rules" for editing but it takes more than knowing the parts of speech and tenses to be a good editor/proofreader.

Editors are born, not made. Editors who are writers MAY not necessarily need others to look through their works, but there is no good writer who won't agree that he needs a proofreader, at least!

Religion / Re: Pastor Samson Ayorinde And Dr. Sign Fireman Collabo by mortee: 1:45am On Jun 20, 2013
I can't upload the picture of the flyer as I keep getting a response that it's more than 200kb. Here is the link to Fireman's Facebook page where you can see it -

https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=619486841397227&id=258303060848942&set=a.272919962720585.78813.258303060848942&refid=17

Meanwhile, I have not said there is anything wrong in the two pastors ministering together; but considering how controversial Sign Fireman has been, I just wondered if some people who have more respect for Ayorinde won't see anything in it.

Religion / Pastor Samson Ayorinde And Dr. Sign Fireman Collabo by mortee: 5:45pm On Jun 19, 2013
I just saw some young girls and guys distributing flyers for a programme tagged "Holy Ghost Earthquake" to be held in Pastor Fireman's Surulere church, with special ministrations by Pastor Samson Ayorinde.

This reminds me of the Chris Oyakhilome and T. B. Joshua story some years back and the controversy it generated among the Christians.

What's your take on this alliance? Will this possibly cause eyebrows to be raised again, or we can believe they are just birds of like feathers who choose to flock together?

Thanks, twosquare. I saw the list of banks and I have contacted some of them in Lagos but they don't have the cards. That's why I think going to Ibadan may just be the next option.

The U.I postgraduate form is out since 10th of June (I think), and will be on sale for six weeks.
I have registered and now have to pay N2,500 for Test of English. I am yet to get the scratch card in Lagos and may have to go to Ibadan before the end of the week.
If anyone needs to get the scratch card too, please indicate here so we can plan how to go about it.

A friend just changed his BB to Z10. On the previous phone, he just subscribed for the Airtel "2 for 3" offer and has like 11gb of data bundle on the phone. The issue now is when he put his sim into the Z10, he did not get the usual registration message from Blackberry. Customer care said he has to subscribe to a new data plan meant for BB 10 series. Please is there any way he can continue to use the data bundle from the former BB on the Z10?

Abi o. And even me that would have been in a good position to give feedbacks can't do so because my brother didn't attend the interview after all.

It's very annoying that despite being jobless for almost 3 years, he still can choose not to attend the interview because he claims Magodo is too far from his Alagbado residence, and he claims he was sure that they were only looking for marketers.

Anyway, his story is one for another thread, probably on another forum.

To all who went for the chat because they seek better lives, your hopes will not be cut short.

Considering the many available positions advertised, I don't want to believe it will all be a commission thing.

Now that it seems no one can give us a clue about what to expect, we just have to rely on God's help and favour.

Wishing everyone going for the interview good success. May this be the beginning of great things for everyone.

Cheers.

It's okay as long as you don't have to pay a dime to any account, even if the account has the name and photograph of the US President. If you are in Abuja, you can check it out.

If you call the supposed attorney and you are asked to pay for whatever, please flee.

What am I even saying? It's a scam jor! Delete the mail straight!

Exactly my thought when she was even telling the boy to run away if he didn't want her to kill him.

Family / Discipline Or Wickedness : Child Training by mortee: 3:57pm On May 20, 2013
It's no news that child maltreatment happens everywhere, but it still baffles me why a mother would so beat her own child and inflict serious injury on him.

I have this neighbour who has a boy of about 10 years old. I have never seen the boy's father, so I guess she is a single mum. She beats him for every mistake, locks him out of the house if she is not at home, and proudly says she can starve the boy for days. For about a week now, I've heard people talk about the boy's health and how lean he has become. So it was very shocking when this woman started beating this boy last night because he vomitted in the house. The boy was able to run out, and even with all the pleads from other neighbours, the woman swore she was going to kill the boy if he entered the house. A neighbour eventually took the boy in, only for him to scream and run out again because his mother had slashed his ear with a razor blade.
My questions are:
1. Why would a mother hate her own child so much that she won't mind beating him to death?
2. In the case where she is not the real mother, why take in a child you know you can't show love and care?
3. Even if the child's father hurt you so bad and perhaps has left you, why take out your anger and frustrations on an innocent child?
4. What can a 10 year old boy do that will make the mother violently beat him and even use sharp objects on him?

Politics / Re: Lagos Rejects Hijab In Public Schools by mortee: 6:52pm On May 15, 2013
Remii: This law is unnecessary and provocative, students have been wearing hijab since ages in Lagos, no time has any trouble traced to Hijab wearing kids. This should be resisted by all peaceful means possible. As long as you can see faces and identify each other there should not be any law targeting a section of the society no one is complaining about girls wearing church choir caps in public schools.

Those things you call church choir caps are berets and it is not personalised to the Christian religion. It is part of the school uniform and is used more to cover unkempt or overgrown hair than for religious purposes. Besides, some girls with hijabs also wear the beret under the scarf. Loads of Christian sisters also use the muslim scarves as part of their dressing, especially on Fridays.

abubello:
so those rules and regulations should override ones religious injunctions? Why should a muslim girl who wants to cover her modesty be forced to expose her nak.edness to the public?

Don't believe all you see, bro. Hijab does cover the body, but it does not cover the real person under the garb. Hijab is not needed to be modest, please. Don't remind me of my hostel mate in school ooo...

Perhaps you doubt if God even answers prayers?
