iamakbar:
@Moshkom, @UmmZayd, and co I have a peculiar question:

Can someone pay 2 visa fees and create 2 visa appointments (say one for Lagos and Abuja) with the same profile just to get a favorable date?

I know that question might be a bit confusing, so here's the backstory:

I have a visa appointment in Lagos in August which is just a day or two before my resumption date (I feel it is too close and I don't want to risk it, god forbid a denial). I interviewed last year in November at Abuja (using EA) and got denied. Hence, I am afraid my chances of getting another emergency appointment approved (especially for Lagos) might be very slim.

As early dates have been showing in Abuja, I thought to look towards Abuja for dates but I do not want to cancel the Lagos appointment I already have (because even though it is too close to resumption, it is still better than after-resumption dates). So I paid a new visa fee with the mindset of creating a fresh appointment for Abuja. However, I couldn't finish this registration because I keep getting the prompt that they have identified a very similar profile (my initial Lagos appointment) on their database and they want me to merge the profiles together.

My big dilemma now is, what do you advise I do given this current situation? If I merge the profiles, will I still be able to make appointments for both Abuja and Lagos?

Please help

Clear now, right?

Please can you advise if one to wait for Emergency Dates in Lagos Embassy for August 12 Start date? Will Lagos embassy publish closer dates later ? quote author=Moshkom post=112475922]Quick one guys,

As your ‘May date’ is fast approaching, don’t forget to keep preparing towards the date/day.

You are the applicant, you should know the kind of preparation that works for you, general mock, self videos mock, transcript p/reviews, YouTubing etc.

Preparation is key. You don’t just wait and be expecting miracle. Embassy ‘atmosphere’ is entirely
different that if you don’t go prepared, your hands might fall and “e go shock you”.

Aside preparation, make sure everything you’re coming with is set and corresponded. Your locations both on visa portal and ds160 be same, your application numbers on both should be same etc.

As the applicant; you should know that the VO ‘usually’ judge these ways:

GENUINE - Are you here with a good school or so? I mean, there are some schools that are ‘red flags’ to the VOs. Mostly, Colleges or so. Applying to the ‘wrong’ schools clearly shows that you’re trying to Japa because they the VO knows that there are more than 4k right schools in The US. So, no excuse from you.

LIABILITY - Are you going there to be a liability to their country. That’s where FUNDING stuff comes in, and reason why most FULLY FUNDED guys get it easily. If you don’t have that, not a crime; just make sure you package your source of sponsorship well and clear for the VO to understand that you won’t be a liability.

HOME TIE: They want to KNOW not just hear, that you’ve something that would bring you back to your country. That’s where WORK and FAMILY (mostly married guys) comes in. Like, you can’t say you’re not currently working and/or not married and expect the VO you might likely come back (putting other factors in place, don’t get me wrong).

F1: Be ready for more convincing ‘talks’ within few mins, extra supporting docs might not be asked. You CONVINCE the VO not ‘replying’ him/her.

F2: Extra supporting docs would be asked, come along with that and with small convincing talks.

Oh! Grace factor? Ok. But also prepare for it to happen or work towards your Grace yourself.

For those coming to from different part to Abuja. Air and Roads are safe, don’t let anyone discourage or put fear on you.

Air: Green Africa and Overland seems to be cheapest airlines atm. 27k and above I guess.

Road: sincerely ABC, GIG and co are the most convenient. 12k or so.

Accommodation: there are cheap hotels close to the embassy, of 5-10k range.

Most, Uber fee within Abuja are of 1k range, so from your hotel to the embassy won’t be more than 1k at most. Unless, it’s an airport trip which are mostly 3k or so.

If you seems lost, kindly reach out to me, I can easily recommend hotels and Uber guys within the City.

Lastly, kindly know that in this path, IT IS ZERO EMOTIONS. You leave your emotions and expectations at your Fav location not in this path. It’s 50/50 just for you to know. If the other ‘50’ happens, take it and move on, you’re not a failure or anything. You come again later. Be like, Burna Boy who reFired to Grammy from African Giant album to TAT, and won it in his 2nd attempt by not giving up.

BE PRAYERFUL and HOPEFUL.

“God No Go Shame Us”

Good Luck!

- MOSHKOM

You guys should keep keeping on, Date would show up in Lag.

Just keep keeping. It’s always like this, it hardly come easy in Lagos but would still show up. Yeah, almost ‘everyone’ resumption is August, so you’re not alone.

Good luck!

Moshkom’s Friday Rant.

Dear Agents and Relative Abroad,

Thanks for the relatively and monetary help you’re trying to give some of ‘our’ applicants. But please, in all you do STOP telling or letting them know that applying for UNDERGRADUATE is the best bet in this USA path. Biko, it’s never the best, esp when the applicant is above 21years of age; and/or finished from high school more than 2yrs ago.

Aside the age factor, there are other factors on why undergraduate isn’t the best route; like the VO would have thoughts on why you don’t undergo your own undergraduate like ‘others’ did.

Now don’t get me wrong, applying for undergraduate is NOT a red flag, it’s NOT!! just make sure you do it well by applying to the RIGHT SCHOOLS that are NOT red flag and applying at the RIGHT AGE, these two factors are VERY VERY IMPORTANT.

Yeah, it’s easier for some agents to apply to COMMUNITY COLLEGE for applicants because the process is EASY and the possible agreement between you guys is “Number of Admissions” = Payment Agreement; or so, and as a ‘Desperate Novice’ you easily fall for it since you don’t know and you want to JUST get admission and ‘Japa’. Nothing concern agent after him don give you the admission wey you want / pay for oh. Lol

And also, ‘our relatives abroad’ that think to enter Yankee is just by “getting any admission to any school”, “just apply to this or that school, if you don get admission, you go enter Yankee” Lol. Na before oh, not now anymore. How you entered then is not ‘like’ the way anymore oh. Biko, know the new update about F1 process before giving advise to your folks.

Oh! Yeah, thoughts of:

“Sheyb e work for this and that”

“I don see person wey go with am”

“Everything na Grace”.

What work for ‘this’ easily might take your own ‘that’ 5 attempts. Why want to waste your funds, time and possible having ‘red profile’ on your USA application database (Ds160).
Why want to play with your own emotion of thinking you’re a ‘failure’? When denials comes in from your own fault.

- WHY APPLY FOR AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE when you can APPLY FOR A BACHELOR DEGREE??
- WHY APPLY TO/FOR A COMMUNITY COLLEGE when you can APPLY TO/FOR A UNIVERSITY.
- WHY WANT TO GO FOR UNDERGRADUATE AGAIN when you can easily finish your Undergraduate and apply for a MASTER or DOCTORATE DEGREE.
- WHY WANT TO LEAVE YOUR CURRENT UNDERGRADUATE TO APPLY FOR ANOTHER UNDERGRADUATE when you can and should easily finish and shoot for Msc or Phd. Which stands better chance.

Oh!

You’ve a low cgpa during our undergraduate, reason why another Bsc application? No na, you can easily do result evaluation and so to apply for Msc.

You’re desperate to Japa ? They would be there waiting for your 67,twos.

PS: There are more then 4,000 graduate institutions in The USA, so zero excuse to apply to a ‘wrong’ school.

Fun Fact: NO YOUNG AGE or OLD AGE TO APPLY FOR A MSC or PHD DEGREE but there’s an OLD AGE for BSC application.

Ok, GRACE factor (Wetin Nigerians like to hear). Lol

GOD NO GO SHAME US.

“ Dear Undergraduates,

I know people on educational committees and advice groups have not been nice to you.. You can’t blame them because undergraduate funding is as hard as finding gold or crude oil.. but fear not these are 10 schools you should focus your search on. They are very generous (even for international students) and if you have a good enough holistic profile you certainly have chances of being funded

1. Utica University
2. Duke University
3. Vanderbilt University
4. Amherst College
5. Berea College
6. Princeton University
7. Soka University (STEM inclined)
8. University of New Mexico
9. University of Notre Dame

These schools boasts of at least 90% funding for their undergraduate program which in turn will make them very competitive. So please evaluate yourself very critically, take tests (SAT, ACT) and pass them well, improve your extracurricular and leadership abilities, showcase your athletic capacities and pray for grace.

Love always

Jesse ❤️ “

Moshkom pls help answer this important question

YES, They can apply for EA.
F2 can do ‘anything’ like an F1 on CGI portal. Same fee; same mode of payment; same Visa category.

It MIGHT just be hard getting it, because they would think “Wetin F2 wan rush go do for Yankee” unlike F1 that has an actual purpose and intended arrival date.

Good Luck!

Hello guys, goodevening. Please I have something that is of a very big concern to me. My aunty who is my sole sponsor lives in the same state as my school, and I have no funding at all. do I have any chance at all?
Are there people who have similar case as mine that has ever gotten lucky? @moshkom and other gurus in the house please help a sister, I am so confused, I dont know what to do.

Hey! Good day.

“Do I have a chance at all”

No, Na! NOBODY here or there have anyone’s VISA DECISION (either Approval or Denial). It’s between GOD, THE VO and YOU.

Everybody here and there are just helping with informations on how they ‘think’ it should or would be, mostly base on personal experience and/or the one of Mutuals.

So, don’t fold! Lol

Ehn en, definitely they would have be A LOT of people with similar cases. Those that got approved; those that got denied, it’s norm.
But don’t forget this path is PER HEAD, what works for A might not work for B; Vice versa. So, just package your own personal profile well and forget, “But e work for this and that”

My OWN PERSONAL OPINION (which might count or NOT):

is that, IF you can get a 9ja SOA, it would be the best bet for you. Because your sponsor being here in 9ja is like an home-tie already.

Yeah, if your aunty can use her 9ja own sef, why not.
Or
Try to find one ‘uncle’ to help out with his.

You will just need to update your i20 to the new change(s).

Don’t forget having someone there ain’t an added advantage in this F1 route. Because during the interview, you won’t just be asked your own questions but with theirs also. Like, how they get there and co.
Your own sef, you never scale through, talk-less of answering for another person that you don’t really know their ‘record’ in The State.

Oh! GRACE factor? Ok.

PS: Don’t FORGET to KEEP KEEPING ON, Goodluck Champ!

Hello my people, gurus on the platform, senior Moshkom and others, I awaits your advice on this.
Thanks.

Quick one:

From your profile, it looks so desperate that you just want to enter The USA by ‘any means’, to the VO not Moshkom. Lol

- Tried the B category 3x. Now, not just F1 but an associate degree.

You sound 28yrs +. Going for an associate degree is NOT the best idea for you (Yeah, “people dey get Visa with Associate Degree”) ask yourself: The ratio of approval, maybe 2 of 20 applicants.

You already have a record of “I sha wan enter USA” with them, don’t forget (sad truth).

To be sincerely?
Your profile is too basic, you need to strengthen it.

Esp your work and your degree.

Degree: Wetin do MSC or Phd wey you no fit apply

Work: Your work role sounds like what you can easily stay after study in the USA to do, “Online work”; which they don’t want.

You need to change the job roles / functions. Like, tell them your Cafe (if you can even get a better subs for the word ‘CAFE’) is attach to the state government ‘something thing; something’ where you help with tutoring of government schools on internet courses or a registered and accredited jamb center (just lamba them) not just a CAFE (too basic).

Overall, if you can RE PACKAGE your ENTIRE profile the next time you’re going. New school (no apply to school in same states that you made the propose B1 attempts) etc

TRY get a better funding offer (full funding, if possible) too, from the school because it would show you are a genuine student to the VO, with that they would remove the thought of Japa from your profile (those B1 attempts) and focus on the F1 this time around. Don’t forget the next time, it would be a new VO, so you won’t get same questions like the last time, reason you should go with an overall, better profile this time around to avoid another next time.

PS: Above are my own Opinions. It might count; it might NOT count.

Good luck in your next attempt, Champ!

Visa denied on 15th Nov 2021.
First attempt.
Funding:10k usd
Deficit:22k usd.

Location Abuja.
Vo:The Korean guy.

Vo: Place your fingers for biometric.
Me: I was shivering already ,then after the biometrics.
Vo: You are going to the University of New Haven to study Masters in Chemistry?
Me: Yes Sir
Vo: Have you traveled out of Nigeria Before ?
Me: No
Vo:Where do you work?
Me:I am a Quality Control Analyst with ,,,so so company.
Vo:Tell me your future plans?
Me: After my masters in Chemistry, I would love to work with the Standard Organisation of Nigeria as a Quality Control Officer. They are the Govt agency responsible for setting and maintaining Standards with the imported goods and locally manufactured products in Nigeria.I have had this close working relationship with them and have attended somany training with them.Again I intend Operating my own Standard Laboratory because I'm committed to having this career that will enable me mentor and lead the young Graduate aspiring level researchers and Analysts.
Vo:I'm sorry i won't be approving your Visa this time, please do reapply and he handed me the 214b.

To be sincere I didn't even know how I answered all these but I knew i did.I was so nervous ehn, infact I suffer from Anxiety. So it was hard for me seeing that no one else was approved among all the people inside the room with me untill my turn. And were asked literally the same questions,so even before it got to me,I already knew what to expect.

Joining Nairaland and many groups after this denial made me realize that CONFIDENCE and making EYE CONTACT while talking is very important.
I realised also that i didn't give a detailed answer atall especially my work. What I do as an Analyst and how long I have worked .I also realised that it's important to carry VO along by the way you link your answers .

Again in my future plans,I was suppose to say that I'm coming back to my place of work for a higher position first and probably relate how getting degree in masters in Chemistry would help me for the new work and maybe link it with my research interest
Then if I'm opportuned to speak more,I can now tell the Vo my longterm plan of Operating my own Standard Laboratory and how getting masters would help to achieve that.

I'm open for more Criticisms and corrections please .

Hello Gurus,,correct me pls.
Hello Moshkom?

Thank you.

Hey, I got tagged. Lol

Sorry for the denial bro, e dey happen; we move and re-fire.

Quick one: Do you know the course you’ve at hand is a ‘Ritual Course’, in this path? Chemistry? Ah! Chemistry hot die for Yankee schooling process.

Saying the above to let you know that you can have a better offer (not that 10k) from schools with your course, if you have a good profile and package your application well.
With a better offer, you have less hurdle to face in the embassy. That one go even give you confidence on its own.

One of my person off here, got the below offer in your same field, days ago:

Tuition off
Stipend
Housing allowance
Medical insurance
Meal ticket

Ehn en! about your transcript below is my PERSONAL OPINION:

“Tell Me your Future Plan”
- You firstly need to let the VO know you’re coming back.
How would you do that?
- After my studies, I WILL BE COMING BACK TO MY CURRENT PLACE OF WORK to take up this and that role or COMING BACK to do this and that in my current place of work.

The VO, would easily reply, “Oh! You mean, you’re coming back your current of work?”
You, “Yeah, I am actually on a study leave, after my degree. . . “

This would show as “home-tie” also serve as your PRIMARY GOAL.

Then you can now continue with that your initial talks about this and that, that would be your LONG TERM goal.

You giving that answer, shows like you actually don’t really have a plan after you study, meaning if you see a better plan there in the USA you might stay back after study, which they don’t want.

Another one:
How was your ds160 work section filled?

Your current work align as a Chemistry Student?
Your last degree na Chemistry?

Because you can’t just jump and be doing this and going for that, dem no like am.

Ofc, work on your Confidence level, super important. They need you to be sharp with your answers. Sharp not fast.

PS: Above are my PERSONAL OPINIONs, it might count; it might not.

In your next attempt, make sure you’ve a change in your profile before you go again. Because it would be new questions and new VO.

GOOD LUCK Champ!!!!!

Yeah, very terrible.

Trust me, when I say I have NEVER been outta helping others, never! Never left anyone Mention or PM ‘unread’ all my ‘NL life’.
People that know me off here, can testify. Been here since 2011 or so, and I can say this is even the media that I personally have a low ‘range’ of ‘helping’ others with my honest opinions.

Because I know what it feels like to have no or little idea or know-how about a thing or process, esp the japa path.

The little honest opinions, that we've been sharing here, we kuku know and heard agents and the upcoming ones, have been using it as their own personal contents for a fee/charge off here, we overlooking and keep sharing, just to carry our people (those that can’t afford agent charges and co) along.

We know, people charge guys here ‘ridiculously’ for Sevis fee and co, we no talk; because “na where man dey work; him dey chop”.

I'm here to say a BIG thank you to everyone who helped me correct and trim my proposed transcript here.

My Visa was approved @ Abuja yesterday 31st March, 2022

Thanks All

Once again, congratulations her Husband’s wife. Lol

The other day, one guy (predst*n) said ‘we’ saying “gibberish” because ‘we’ are trying to ‘help’ with ‘our’ 2cent on mock reviews. Lol. Since then we stopped, to avoid ‘bad reviews’ on the name Moshkom.

Again, congratulations and fly safe, Ma!

That person already interviewed and got his Visa though.

Oh! Really! Makes sense.

Someone else would learn from the review.

Hello people, could you guys help with looking at this mock interview questions & answers and evaluate by constructive criticism etc.. Here it goes ;

Why are you going to the US?
A: I’m going to the US for my masters in Statistics ( Biostatistics concentration) in the department of Mathematics and Statistics at Georgia State University in Downtown Atlanta Georgia - USA.

Q: How Many Schools did you apply to?
A: 13 schools in the USA, 2 in Canada and 1 in Singapore

Q: How many of them offered you admission?
A: 6 of them offered me admission while others are still pending.

Q: Why Georgia State University ?
A: Apart from the fact that they offered me full tuition waiver, an employment and a monthly stipend, Georgia State University stands out for me because they match my objectives, training opportunities and field research . These are in line with my goal of being a lecturer after my Masters and PhD Programs. Also, apart from the fact that he has been helpful to me through out the admission process, I am particularly fascinated by the research work of Professor Gengsheng Qin. He researches on "statistical methods in diagnostic medicine and biological research" ; " survival analysis" etc which will be very effective in my quest to being a biostatistic lecturer of note after my PhD studies. I also chose this school because of its rich culture of faculty and student diversity.

Q: Where is Georgia state university located?
A: It is located in Downtown Atlanta Georgia USA.

Q: Why do you want to have this degree?
A: My dream is to impart knowledge to the younger generations and in order to do that having a masters and PhD degree will increase my market value when i return to my al mata (Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka) in Nigeria

Q: Who is your sponsor?
A: My school( Georgia State University) is sponsoring me. They offered me a tuition waiver with an employent as a graduate lab assistant and a monthly stipend. The deficit will be covered by my first cousin Mr Michael Uhuegbu.

Q: What does he do?
A: He is studying for his PhD in Vanderbilt University right now.

Q: Are you married?
A: Yes i am

Q: Do you have a relative in America?
A: I don't have a immediate relative but i have a first cousin by name Mr Michael Uhuegbu

Q: Why is he sponsoring?
A: He has been so passionate about my career and I told him about my ambitions. After i got my admission and he saw the funding deficit he immediately said he would cover it.

Q: Why do you want to study in the US?
A: Apart from the part that the US is known to have one of the best education system in the world having my education in the US will expose me to the advance practical and theoretical aspects of statistics. Also like I said having a master and PhD degree from an america university will do my credentials a whole lot of good on returning to my al mata Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.

Q: How did you get to know this school?
A: After outlining my aims and objectives I decided to do a comprehensive search to find and filter schools in line with my goals. I did this by using google and other academic websites like USNEWS.com etc

Q: What is your study plan/What are the courses you’ll be taking?
A: It would take me about 28 months to complete the total of 30 credit hours ( comprising of 24 hours coursework and 6 hours thesis research). My courses include but not limited to Survival analysis, Advance methodologies in Biostatistics, Linear Statistical Analysis etc

Q: What’s your plan after graduation?
A: With my updated knowledge of the various aspects of Statistics and its application, I’ll be coming back home to the role of a lecturer in my al mata Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.

Q: If I give you this visa, what will you do?
A: That means I have 28 months to equip myself with the theoretical and practical skills needed to be a lecturer and then I will head back to my al mata Nnamdi Azikiwe University Nigeria to take up a lecturer role and impact knowledge. My al Mata have since been experiencing dearth of statistics lecturers and i I would like to fill this void.

Thanks!

Hi guys, I’ve been a silent participant on here, great job from everyone for all the insights, tips and ideas being shared at all times. So I got this offer from Ball State University. A 50% tuition remission and GAship which makes my tuition instate...the stipend makes a lot of sense though, I wish I had a full tuition waiver though, what do you think bout it?

Lol. Odogwu, hope you’ve sha accept the offer? Even if you’re expecting something huge elsewhere, still accept it, Because all these rants won’t solve anything here. Some people wish they have ‘just’ that offer; in that same school.

Please accept it and if you THINK YOU DESERVE MORE, you can easily email them and let them know and understand. If it’s BSU, they would surely get back to you with a clear feedback.

Again, Congratulations and good luck champ!

- No docs would be required to show.

- I don’t really know your profile, so can’t advise about your F1-F2.
But the general bet is ‘them’ coming over later time, especially when the F1 ain’t fully funded or have excess funding FROM THE SCHOOL.
But still the is USA; what work for this; might not work for that, what’s hard for this; can be easy for that.

In all, Just PACKAGE well.
Luck!
