You would definitely need your passport for the exam.
You should try schedule the exam before your passport expires or after your passport collection. Also try to fasten your passport collection.

“Just thought to throw this out there that as you prepare for school, your visa plans begin from now.

The success of your visa depends on how you play your cards with your school as you are submitting your proof of payment documents

If you have 5 years or more working experience start looking for ways to raise personal funds for easy visa interview. For example, you are 29 years old with 6 years work experience and you have $0 as personal funds. Get some money from friends to put in your account for a week or less, during which you can get a bank letter from the bank to support your application, don't forget to return money back to your friends afterwards..lol

If you do this, you will have one less thing to worry about when your i20 comes out.

God be with you all.

What about cases where GRA was waived for such programs.

If you’ve the GRE, still attach it to your application. Forget the waiver! It makes application stronger.

Visa Approved!

California State University Long Beach, California
COA: 34k
GA: 6k
Deficit: 28k
Location: Abuja
Date 25th August, 2022.

This is actually a long read o

First of all, I want to start off by saying GOD is Real. HE’s True to HIS Promises.
HE broke the protocols. My Visa interview was sweet… it was a smooth conversation.

On the day of my Interview I was filled with Praise, absolute Praise.
I woke up to pray and all I kept hearing in my Spirit was when Pastor Eno on NSPPD says “How will you shout your shout…how will you dance your dance... “ these words kept resonating in my Spirit; For I have not given you a spirit of fear but of boldness and of sound mind, that HE GOD will fight my battle and I shall hold my Peace… that HIS Presence will go with me… that the Blessings coming my way shall be called Good measure, pressed down, shaken together & running over… at that moment I had an unwavering Faith.

Now into the interview proper.

We lined up in numbers waiting for all the check ins, biometrics and one on one interview session with the V.Os present.

When it got to my turn I didn’t want to be interviewed by window 7 as she had denied a woman and her son for a visiting visa. I wanted window 9.
But I had no choice and moved forward since the security had already asked me to go forward.
I was interviewed by the Beautiful brunette lady with her cute eyes.

V:O Good morning, please pass your passport and I-20
Me: Thank you,
Good morning Ma’am

V:O we will start by you placing your first four left fingers afterward the right four fingers and both thumbs. I was smiling and doing all that and saying thank You Ma’am.

V:O She looked at my ds-160 job roles and asked, where do you work:
Me: Thank You. I work at the Nigerian Red Cross Society Port Harcourt Division as a Project Analyst. Part of my duties include;
Collating data of underrepresented individuals in marginalized communities especially victims of infectious diseases particularly Hepatitis, HIV, Tuberclosis and other enteric forms of diseases.
I’m involved in timely health program report and also the reviewing and monitoring of projects activities carried out in project communities.
My team and I carry out Advocacy visits otherwise known as Supportive Supervisory Visits to underserved communities within Rivers state where we set up point referral systems for these marginalized communities to have access to mapped out health facilities, these target populations are usually victims of communal and ethnic violence, conflicts, flood and fire disasters, Accident and rape victims. We gave out Post and Pre-explosure prophylaxis to individuals who have been exposed or come down with Hepatitis and HIV infections, victims of rape & sex abuse, especially pregnant women to avoid Neonatal transmission. We also gave out RDTs(Rapid Diagnostic Testing kits) & LLIN( Long Lasting Insecticidal Treated Nets) as preventive measures against malaria parasite infections.
I also participated in a sensitisation exercise where we educated the communities on the dangers of female genital circumcision & early girl child marriage & also went on a house to house focus group discussion that talks extensively on measures thats promote the quality of life expectancies.
We also distributed immunisation questionnaires and gave out rehabilitation services and mental health support to victims of rape, accident & fire disasters victims .
*** Mind you while I was saying all these I kept my eyes fixed on her while she looked at me a few times and typed in her system***

V:O: How long have you worked in this company
ME: I have worked as a Project analyst for 3 years now.

V.O: I see you have a GA,
Me: I said YES Ma’am

V.O: who will be covering the deficit,
ME: I said my Uncle by name XYZ***will be covering the rest. Before CSU long Beach released my I-20 they ensured I met all the financial requirements for a graduate program at CSULB for the next 2years. He has been involved in my life for over 22 years since I lost my Dad, he is a Realtor, he has about 65 luxury homes across Lagos state, Rivers & Imo State Nigeria. He has a staff strength of 85 and he’s been into business for the past 8years. He has seen my commitment to work and what I stand to achieve after this masters program as I intend to take up a position in my current place of work as a Public Health Analyst.

See the Miracle here pls;
• I didn’t even add his gross annual income of 400m..
• Then when I was mentioning his company names. I said he has companies like, ABC and this other company I’m not sure if it’s an XYZ or ZYX

V:O Oh okay. Do you have any documents from your company to support your application.
Me: Yes, Ma’am ; I have a study leave here that covers my quarterly emoluments for the next 24 months at Cal State long Beach.

V.O: Okay calmly…. She reached out to pick up the Congratulatory note the magic words came forth…
I will be approving your visa. Congratulations.
Please write your school to send you an updated I-20 .. at this point I was not hearing anything o I was just nodding as though I heard

ME: Thank You so much Ma’am you made my day. Have a beautiful day too
V.O: You’re welcome

I left with so much joy.

Guys.. upon opening the door where everyone was seated waiting for their turns.. Omo I ran away o I ran, I didn’t turn my back till I got to the point where we usually take off our belts and other things ..

GOD has truly compensated me.
I’m short of words.
MERCY is Real. GOD does not forsake HIS own o

I want to thank all those who made my Visa experience a Huge Success.
Thanks to Mr Jude O. ‘@Jude Tennesse YouTube’ for all the continued support, for carefully articulating my SOP.

Special Thanks to @Shannon70, ex Visa officer here in Nairaland. He did an amazing job in carrying out mock sessions with me, articulating my responses in a cohesive manner. I got a Resounding YES I’m truly grateful Sir.

I also watched videos posted by Argo Visa Team; Ben & Mandy on YouTube.

Thanks to all my friends on this journey with me @Osy, @Sunky, @Iytee, @Jethro, @Moshkom whom I only met once with my friend @Sunky and all my support systems here you guys pulled the string together with me.

And to my lovely, selfless, sweet sister @Faithulness❤️❤️ thanks for all the series of continued mocks, relentless support & guess what, the critics also paid off. She literally knew all my responses and yeah we nailed it girl.
I love you always❤️

I also want to Congratulate myself for not giving up against all odds.

***Truly what GOD cannot do does not exist!!!***

CONGRATULATIONS.

Quick One Guys,

LOAN don’t really sit well with 8/10 VOs.

No range when selling yourself when ask “Who is your sponsor”, with Loan.

With Family Funds, you can say this and that. You fit talk say na Dangote extended fam member dey sponsor you sef. Lol

They, the VOs know how their own guys run outta ‘Credit Level’ due to loan/debt in the state.

Some guys, Mpower loan don come on their i20 as “Personal Funds”, very lucky guys.

In short, FAMILY FUNDS >> anything LOAN(s) on i20s.

Disclaimer: Ain’t saying LOAN are bad oh, or saying people are not ‘getting it’ using Loan. Biko! Lol

As regards the number of schools applied to, does applying to high number of schools increase or reduces ones chance of getting visa? Reason please?

Nah.

Just gives you chance to get a better offer from any of them, when you actually personally need it. Diversity !

@MOSHKOM, thank you for this. I just started applying to schools for spring 2023.

I studied Economics Education in my first degree (background) but I have been working with special needs children in a school where I have over 3years working experience in that line.

I centered my application on the special needs courses because of the working experience I have....

Do you advice to change this or I should just move on since Economics Education is my background.....the goal is to get the visa approved. Please what do you think?

Nice.

I would also advice you apply to schools with your study background, since you’re not meant to apply to just a school. At least 6 schools. Least!!!

Spread your applications. Make it 50/50.
Then when the interview stage shows, you go with the best bet.

Just Keep Keeping On.

Hey!

Yeah, he can use B1/B2 account for the F1, even with same old receipt (if still valid).
Just call the CGI, ( 09 461 4000 ) to complete the updates. But you can SURELY use same portal and valid fee interchangeable for both. Since it’s sane fee then 67,200.

And for EA, it’s always 50/50, not by pass cgi record.

Hey! Dear Spring and Fall 2023 applicants,

Quick One:

It’s ALWAYS ADVISABLE to apply to your ‘Study Background’, esp the course you’ve your last degree on.

You easily get POSSIBLE OFFER (funding and/or assistantship) from there.
Some Graduate Advisors (not all), would let you know that “I can’t work with you because you don’t background in this and that”

Don’t forget the game is to get a possible better offer (funding) from graduate schools not JUST ADMISSION.

You can easily fine-tone your Resume/CV to a propose course of graduate schools application but you can’t fine-tone your already earned degree.

You can also easily switch to your desire course of study when you get to The USA.

Again, This Path is for THE BEST in PACKAGING not a test of Heart Desire.

GOOD LUCK GUYS!

(1) Expect the unexpect the unexpected..questions you don't expect.Prepare for that.

(2) Think before you respond to any question. Some questions can be trickish. But if you think, you will be able to pull along.Be smart in responding to the vo.

(3) Be confident- confidence does not only prove that you know what you're saying but also prove that you are capable of doing what you seek.Ignite your confidence, that way you will give the vo a positive impression.

(4)Also, don't forget to add spices to your home tiesgrin Add kpomo, egusi and some vegetablegrin

las las you will get your visa approved.

Sorry 4 my grammatical inacuraciesgrin

Moshkom Chibertha abeg chuck mouth for this matter.

F1 VISA INTERVIEW PROCESS

The VO is only interested in 3 things.

Question 1. You are really going there to study, and you are qualified to do so.
Question 2. You will return after your academic program.
Question 3. You can afford the program.
*all questions asked are often linked to the three things outlined above.

*Likely Questions*
1.Why did you choose X university? - This answers question 1.
Keep your answer short and impactful, say something specific about the university (link it to yourself) and be honest. They can also ask this question in the form of "Why are you studying in the US?”.
*Note*: They can also ask specific questions about your school or city, especially if you give the impression that you are familiar with them.

2. How many universities did you apply to? - Be honest here, it also helps to answer question 1. You might also use the answer to this to answer the “Why did you choose X university?” question by saying why you chose X school over the other option(s).

3. Who is sponsoring you? - This answers question 3.
Follow up questions might follow, they will address:
a. Your relationship to the sponsor.
b. Their financial capability (This is often asked in the form of "what does your sponsor do?"wink.
c. The sponsor’s willingness to sponsor you .
Give them any documents requested, you can make your sponsor write a letter to the embassy and take it along.

4. How many siblings do you have? - It answers question 3.
If you have siblings (or if your sponsor has kids), they will consider how much it will take to take care of them while they are evaluating the financial documents. A follow-up question can be "what do your siblings do?".
This can also be a form of home-tie and it answers question 2.

5. Do you have any relatives in the US? - This is for Question 2.
Be truthful! They are likely to have this information in their records. People with close relatives in the US are somewhat likely to stay behind.
However, this is not a criteria and they'll ask something else to investigate further.

6. Why don't you do this course in your country? - This answers number 1 and 2 simultaneously. Coming up with an honest and convincing answer to this should not be hard.

7. What will you do after you complete your program? - This answers question 2.
The VO wants to know if the purpose of your visit is to stay back in the US or study temporarily.
You can also propose how you can use what you learn to benefit yourself (or the society) in Nigeria.
Remember! you are applying for a temporary non-immigrant visa; not a work or "live in America" visa. Do not suggest to the VO that you plan to stay back, it is not a good look.

* The VO might also try to gist with you and ask for other details. Gist back and smile with them, be comfortable, tell a joke (if you can) and flow well.

The interview moves very fast, and it is a short process. No shaking!
Good luck!

Moshkom can you help review this pls?

Hello Nairalanders
Cc
@Chibertha, Moshkom, Ummzayd e.t.c

I’m back in the house again…I was away for about 4months scouting for interview appointments date (One of the most difficult processes) in getting a student’s visa. Fortunately, I was able to secure a date yesterday which is too close to my class start date

Please help me review this on how to structure what to tell the VO during my interview

[Here is the thing:

My Orientation Program date :- 13th August 2022 (Will definitely miss as I haven’t gone for interview yet)

Visa Interview Date :- 18th August, 2022

Class start date :- 22nd August, 2022 (Will miss as passport/visa will still be in process with embassy, which usually takes about 3 to 5 business days to process) – Worst case scenario 25th to 26th to receive before final arrival date.

The remarks section on my I-20 says this:

‘’Tuition, fees and insurance subject to change without notice. Tuition fees /expenses for 9 months(fall/spring). Missing international programming in mid-August could delay course registration. To maintain F-1 status, student must register and enroll full-time (Minimum 9 credit hours for graduate students). Must arrive before last day to schedule classes: August 30, 2022’’

Can visa officers use the close class start date and missing orientation as a yardstick to refuse a visa , irrespective of the fact that I have an extension in the remarks section above till the 30st to arrive?

Please what is the best statement/words to convince them to cover the missing orientation date and first week of class? . The school doesn’t have issues with my resumption after the 22nd of August, 2022 till the 30th.

Need your input guys …please, Ejowo oo, Don Allah, Biko. Thank y’all!

Question # 2
How do I change my intended travel date / tentative travel on DS-160 and update my appointment profile on CGI to reflect same? Please, note that I have already submitted my DS-160 (Reason: It was submitted cos I used it to apply for EA, which was eventually denied).
Any step-by-step guide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

- FOR THE DATE TALK

Most VOs works with CLASS STATE DATE. It’s highly advisable for your interview to be 10-14 days away from your Class Start date.

And it’s only few VOs that extension letters sits well with. They hardly want to check docs. They 9/10 times believes only your i20 details should be work with not any external docs.

- FOR THE DS160 RETRIEVAL

Go to the DS160 access site. Fill in your details
(location and Confirmation number) Simply select
"Retrieve An Application", then "create a new
application"
You'd be able to access the old DS160. Just that this
time, you'd get a new *Confirmation Number*. Make
the necessary adjustments and submit when you're
sure you're done. Then proceed to the CGIfederal
website, login and navigate to
"Update Profile"
Erase your old confirmation number and replace it
with the new one

DISCLAIMER of trying to sound like a motivational speaker or your Fav person.
Lol

Some Quickies:

It’s NOT cheap, it’s just less expensive than UK and Canada path. So, don’t have the mindset of “Dem say to enter Yankee no hard, na just to get admission”
Lmao.

It’s NOT advisable to go for Undergraduate study if you’re more than 23; have finished your high school more than 5yrs ago, or you already have a degree (HND or Bsc).
Yeah, your Fav agent or person would tell you “I don see person wey get am at 32 before, all na Grace”
Lol

The F1 path, is a test of the most Package. You will have to PACKAGE yourself from the APPLICATION stage to the VISA APPROVAL stage. Only few people have the 10/10 profile, others “na packaging we dey chop”, so join ‘us’.
Haha

About selecting the embassy location, It’s ALWAYS ADVISABLE to pick the embassy that you think would aid your visa approval, base on your I20 profile, NOT the one that have possible available interview date to pick.
“Last Last e go cast” in Burna Boy’s voice.
Lol

If the available date you’ve for Fall isn’t favorable, you can easily defer to spring and go for spring interview with the date you have, just make sure you’ve a spring i20. Yes, you must not go for Fall session. Lol.
Yeah, I know you don’t want to hear that. But, lol.

You don’t keep trying an error on this Path, In the name of “I no go give up” or “I don see person wey get am before with this and that” or “Na who give up F**k up”.
Do the right thing, repackage and reFire or you go just dey collect “woto woto”.

Random Facts:
- I don’t know who you are, but USA Visa Interview Date search would humble you and yours. Not funny but funny. Lol

- This path is like a ‘cheat code path’, for guys in the Chemistry field. God when!

- Before Grace would work for you on this Path, your profile would do that or have done that. So, DO THE RIGTH THING(s), no be everything be Grace.

“TILL WE ALL POSSIBLY WIN”

In the embassy of today, they don’t stress documents ‘seeing’ unlike before, just sound convincing to the VO on who is covering your deficit and what he or she does.
So, just get your i20. Even the school won’t care about the duration, just make the deficit available to them and they will give you your i20.
Get your i20 and move to the next stage. Don’t stay long on doing the most average thing.

Quick one about date ?

Sincerely, It’s not by getting date anywhere or anyhow.

- Are ready to go? Or just wanna go because you have date.

- Is the location that you’ve the date, Favorable/Suit your profile? Or “Wo! I go go like that because na where I see date be that”

Lol.
You rush them, you get Gbas.
You no prepare well come, you get Gbos.

It’s not hard. It’s now just 68,800.

The most funniest thing? You guys do think YOU DO NOT HAVE TIME. That you must go ‘this Fall’.
Na your Father’s Land? Lmao. Wetin do Spring sessions? It’s not funny but funny.

Quick One Guys,

For the approved ones, don’t forget to check your school’s requirements for your resumption. Most schools ‘told’ you then that you are required to submit your official transcripts upon arrival etc. Don’t forget to ‘order’ that from your undergraduate school before you leave, don’t get there and be stranded, thinking “dem don forget”; “e no mean”. “ dem no go ask” Lol e go shock you.

For the ones searching for dates, keep keeping on; you’re not alone. It’s always like that and would always be like this.

The ones with date, preparation is key. Join and do mocks to get your wordings well, so that you can CONVINCE the VO on why you need the White paper.

For the prospective applicants, start and spread your applications now to meet priority deadlines. Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 are upon you already, e no far again oh.

GOD NO GO SHAME US
