myners007: Good Day guru, Please i would like you to explain to me the importance of radiator coolant .If one replaces a radiator with another one without applying coolant ,are there any adverse effect on the cooling system of the car. it is to prevent corrosion to the aluminium components of your cooling system, allow the engine run at a hotter temperature without the coolant boiling, prevent calcification due to hard water, and giving longer life to your water pump/thermostat. |

Princelumide: Please motor guru I noticed whenever I'm driving my car(Mercedes benz c200 kompressor), sometimes the gear selects fine but at times it just won't select or change, it will just remain in one selection until I put off the engine and restart the car again... And sometimes it won't just move just fine, but as if, it's been forced to move.
Please I need your assistance. Your gearbox harness connector pin socket is bad. the seal(o-ring) has been compromised allowing oil to soak it. Replace o-ring , clean and check. if same symptoms replace connector. |

ping2ping: Hello @MotorGuru. Thanks for the informative thread.
I am considering Toyota Picnic or Toyota Avensis Verso for a family minivan. I actually prefer the avensis verso as its more roomy but have read things about the 1AZ-FE engine fitted into it. Things like burning oil, stripped bolt, etc.
I am looking at a fairly used of any of these. Please I will need your advice.
Thank you. the 1AZ-FE was not extensively documented to have the stripped bolt problem. Oil consumption was also not an issue. Please do due diligence when purchasing a Nigerian used vehicle. |

GCFR696: Hello Motor Guru I want to buy a tokunbo engine for my 2005 accord v6 1. Please what should I look out for in order not to buy a rebuilt engone 2. The recommended oil is 5w20, can I continue using the recommended oil not minding the fact that the engine must have recorded high mileage? 3. If Q2 is no, which viscosity of oil would you recommend?
Warm regards rebuilding would have been a better option , but with the current level of available expertise, please toks is better. What to look out for: 1.Check coolant passage ways and ensure you do not see any chalk- like coating. if you do, that engine has been used in Nigeria Before and water was used as coolant. 2.Check the interface between Top cylinder& engine block and ensure that graphite(paper as they call it) gasket has not been used. 3. check all gaskets and ensure it has not been supported or replaced by Gasket maker(Black or white gum). Anywhere such was originally sued from factory, it should have a slight yellowish tint to it. 4. Check all bolts and be sure there is no spanner marks(evidence that is might have been slackened before) 5.Check engine number inscription and compare with the engine currently with your car to avoid any foul play. 6. Go with an experienced person. 7. The VIN number of the car that engine came out from is usually riveted to the engine body. copy it and run a comprehensive VIN check to have an idea of the Mileage. Use 5W20 if the engine mileage is less than 150,000 miles( on the Toks engine) |

HeavenlyBang: No 2008 Highlander i4. Right sir. 2009-up Toyota highlander had the option of 4 cylinder engines (2.7 L 1AR-FE I4) It is just not too common ( for the obvious reason of being hopelessly under-powered) |

Please is maintenance of 2008-2009 Toyota Highlander pocket friendly?.
Can you advise me on this issue before buying? Compared to other brands of its class, it is the best in terms of cost of ownership. Nothing really to watch out for( except maybe the oil coolant lines which may rupture with age if it is made of rubber) |

kingreign: Is the car a v6 or 4 cylinder engine? If engine has never been worked on, ensure the cooling system is bled properly( allowing all air to escape) For oil shortage, do you have leakage around seals of the engine? Puff of smoke at first start in the morning? Smoke only when engine is revved? |
