johnvinsley: Good afternoon all, Kindly help my ignorance on car techinical terms and explanation. My Tayota Camry 2010 model with i4 (2ar-fe) engine developed a gearbox issue during the Xmas season travel. The gearbox wouldn't select gears except gear 1 and 2. The rev will reach 5,6,7 and the car wouldn't select any gear. I have managed to bring the car back to abuja and i meet my mechanic here and after checking he said the gearbox brainbox (one black small box) wasn't communicating which he said he fix and the car is communicating with the gearbox.and gear oil was changed. The issue now is the problem haven't be resolved. The car can only select all gears if I am driving slowly like a learner. And at a start the rev shouldn't cross 2 for all the gears to select.
Please help me. Please scan this vehicle. The check engine light must be on, given your current predicament was your throttle body (or what they call Injector mouth) ever tampered with? It is to ensure you are not having problems with your throttle position sensor |

I also noticed it is shorting oil but no smoke and it moves very well. oil shortage can be attributed to factors including: 1. Oil leaks 2.Bad PCV valve 3. Worn Piston rings(Oil control rings) 4. Worn cylinder walls this can have damaging long term effects on your catalyst. |

lanrexdo: I have carefully narrowed down my search to this two cars after careful studying them both for few weeks and i hope i won't get it wrong because right now all i plan is to get it right with the Recession economy that we will face soon after this whole COVID 19
So i plan to use either one for uber/taxify/bolt only on weekends.
what should i watch out for when purchasing the car?
Note: I am going to be purchasing it as a Nigerian used car due to some financial Constrain.
So which is of them is best to maintain? comfort?
HELP!! why not Toyota yaris or Honda city of the same year? 2007 Kia Rio is another very good alternative. Thing is , you should be looking for the vehicle that give the best (lowest running cost) that can comfortably seat at least 3 people. |

Mynewdawn15: Thanks issue has been resolved. Changed complete drive shaft. MotorGuru: Does vibration occur when you accelerate (or you depress the throttle pedal)? What kind of balancing was done(static or dynamic)? have the wheels (rims) been inspected for bends/dents? Are your driveshafts in Tip top shape?
What is the condition of your transmission fluid? Do you feel a shudder (which may be mistaken for a wheel wobble)? Good to know sir... Good to know. |
