My Honda Accord jerks when i accelerate in forward(d4), and also after moving out of gear 2 it seems to get at selecting gear.

After meeting with two different mechanic, one said that i need to change the entire gear box which he said cost around 65k because he said the fiber is damaged(melted) that no repair change fix the problem. The other said, i should change transmission oil and service the gear sensor.

Which of this mechanic should i go with?

I beleive your car is OBD2 compliant.

Take the care for a scan and post codes here.

is your D4 lights flashing?

Motor guru,
Please I drive a 97 Nissan maxima.
Sometime last year, noticed that when I put the gear to D, the car delays for few seconds before moving. Within this time if I step on the throttle, it will just rev without move, then after few seconds it will move. This happens in the morning or if the car has been packed for more than 5hrs.
Recently, the delay is getting longer, sometimes up to 2mins. But if I select 2 on the gear, car responds normally. So what I do for now is use 2 and drive a few blocks then put it to D.
Car still drives normal, no drag or anything abnormal. And every other gear works normal except for the D.

Gearbox is on its way out. prepare for a replacement soon

Good day house, I drive a 2005 camry (big daddy) athe check engine light won't go off after I got fuel from one (Pencil Oil filling station) last week. Immediately I started the engine after buying fuel the check engine light refused to go off, thought it's temporary but to my surprise it's still on.

Also, I thought I should be able to use 5k from Lakowe(ibeju-lekki) to lekki phase 1, to and from work for the week (mon - friday) but the 5k fuel I bought on Monday morning at Northwest filling station was already reading empty on Thursday evening, had to refill on Friday morning.

Please is everything ok, cause I just got the car and started driving it last week. Kindly assist. Thanks

Cc motorguru

sorry for the predicament. I think the best way to start is to get the vehicle scanned for codes, and you post the code here.

You still don't get it, the guy is simply saying putting ur car in neutral and REV
Guess who rev their car in neutral manual or Auto? answer KIDS
At the red light, you put ur car on natural, tap your brake and engage your hand brake and rest your feet, this was why the brake.stop and start mechanism was invented.

The point of putting your gear in Neutral at a stoplight (the bone of contention here) instead of drive is the number 4 point he discussed in the video.

And it started from time 7:14. Fast forward to that time-frame and and watch from there.

The OP has no clue on how cars work, he just did copy and paste without researching what he copied!

MotorGuru:
Automatic transmission is a torque multiplication device that is attached to your car's engine, which enables your car to shift gears automatically with little or no driver input. it is different from manual transmission in that there is no need for a pedal operated clutch. this makes your vehicle (if equipped with one ) to be very easy to drive especially in traffic jams. The ease it provides makes it very complex in its design and operation and if used incorrectly, can be easily damaged and can cost a lot of money( in some cases hundreds of thousands of Naira) to repair or replace.

The following are some key driving tips that will help keep your automatic transmission in good condition:

1.Only change from Drive to Reverse and vice versa at a complete standstill: Always ensure your vehicle comes to a complete stop before going from drive to reverse or vice versa. Shifting from reverse to drive, or vice-versa, while the car is still moving can cause increased stresses to the drive-train constant velocity joints which can lead to breakage/damage. This can also cause damage to the transmission wet clutches/ brake bands which can be a very expensive repair.so be patient and learn to use your brakes properly to stop your car.

2. Only shift to Park when you’ve come to a complete stop: You can damage or break the locking pin and the pawl mechanism that’s used to ensure your transmission is properly engaged in park. repairing this may be very costly.

3. Don't put your gear in neutral in a holdup/ stoplight : Yes i know, you will say i need to save fuel, right? No it doesn't. Your RPM actually fluctuates and, in some cases, rises when you shift from Drive to Neutral. Not only does this not help you save fuel, but the fluctuation in RPM also stresses the bands and clutch plates in your transmission, which, over time, will wear them out.

4. Putting your car gear in 'L' when stuck in a muddy place: This is bad practice, as L means your car starts from gear 1, and gear 1 gives a high torque condition which will cause spinning of your driving wheels and in severe cases overheat your transmission (Heat is a major killer of automatic transmission!)In such situation , engage your transmission in '2' so that your car can start in(or immediately shift into)2nd gear and remain in that gear until you are out of the situation.

5. Launching your automatic car by revving in Neutral and shifting to Drive: Hmm. For the awon Jason Staham (Transporter) that will put their transmission in Neutral, hold down the accelerator, then shift to Drive. This is very bad practice as this subjects the clutches and bands in these cars' transmissions are placed under huge amounts of mechanical stress due to the abrupt mashing of a stationary clutch plate with an engine that has been revved too high. this over time will wear your transmission and may call for a rebuild/ replacement sooner than expected.

I also noticed the fan was connected directly, I asked the Rewire to return it to factory settings, he said he can't cos 406 fan has been worked on it, I'm also suspecting that may be the cause too.

there most likely goes your problem.

revert to factory settings and you should be fine.

My 2001 V6 highlander check engine light is on. After scanning I got these error codes; P0141, P0325, P0330 and P1155. Hope it doesn't have much effects on the performance of the car. I just bought it Nigerian used.

P0330 and p0325 means your two knock sensors or the associated circuit has been compromised.

P0141 and P1155 means your post catalytic O2 sensor (after the catalyst of bank 1) and air/fuel ratio sensor(bank 2 sensor 1) is faulty.

i suggest you repair/replace them to get a good operating condition of your vehicle.

Can you answer questions on Peugeot 407
Works fine when temperature guage is less than 90, the moment it gets to 90, it can't accelerate beyound 30km/hr, attimes losses power completely untill restarted again

is your check engine light on?
look for someone with PP2000 and scan for codes.

You may be having problems with your coolant temperature sensor sending erratic readings to your ECU

Thanks alot Sir. But The problem isn't getting an ecu but making sure it works. The last one i orderd from the states ended up "partly functional". My programmer had to place another order by himself via a friend of his in The states. It came, worked fine but having transmission issues and dash board functions are not functional. As it is now, I don't think my programmer knows where the problem lies. He suggested I buy another ECU which will make it the 3rd ECU I'll be buying. I then told him about the TCM. Which he said I might have to buy to. So I'm really confused now. No be say person dey pluck money from tree

First of all, have you confirmed that it is the same part number?

1. Toyota Corolla
2. Toyota Corolla grin

There is a reason why this car (particularly the 03-07 models) are very expensive.
Extreme reliability, extremely simple to repair/ extremely cheap to run(on petrol) to name but a few

you can consider Honda civic (2006 models up) and our friend Weyreypey can suggest a few grin

It's a long and complicated story that I have forgotten most part of it. Car suddenly refused starting and wasn't even able to crank. It was later diagnosed to be as a result of a fault ECU . I bought an ECU, got someone from Lagos to come program and fix the car. The man came did what he did.. now the car could start only when you Jumpstart it... tried reprogramming the key or whatever, no success. So the car got towed to Lagos where another ECU was bought and fixed. Long story short, the car can now start but it can't shift from gear 2 to any other gear. All the functions on dash board ain't working.. the new report now is that I have to buy another ECU for the car because the one currently in the car isn't functioning well. And I might also have to buy a transmission control module to. I'm sick and tired of the whole issue already. The car is a Cadillac cts 2006. This is just a summary of the whole issue

Provide us with the VIN of your vehicle so that we can ascertain that the right brainbox is being installed in your car.

Hi MotorGuru,

What is the consequences of using a the recommended 5W-30 synthetic oil for a car after using the normal 20W-50 Oil for a long time? Is it advisable to continue with the normal oil or change to the synthetic oil because I am not comfortable with using the normal 20W-50 oil. The is a Lexus 330 car.

It is possible that nothing actually may happen, particularly if the oil was changed religiously (every 3000 miles/5000km). However the possibility of accelerated wear of piston rings and other mechanical/ rotating parts, compromised seals etc, make make it a bad idea.

If you have the means, switch to the oil being proposed... and monitor your oil level/ oil leaks religiously. If level is ok for 3000 miles or more, then you are good to go.

this is bothering me seriously as I don’t know what could be the cause and what will happen to someone’s car if someone forgets to put off the handbreak while driving but realized after 10mins drive away.

check if your brake booster is connected.

Your callipers may be binding.

But another school of thought kicks against that practice.
Moreover, i think the transmission fluid is cooled by the radiator so i do not envisage where it gets overheated.

Yes at standstill, with engine running, it revs above 3000 rpm. But it is only when traveling on top speed around 60-80mph that car experiences the continuous revving which will not allow it speed beyond 60/80mph. A rewire guy I went to told me it is the raising sensor that has faults. Is there anything called raising sensor or he is just doing trial and error?

As per scanning the car for codes, I don't understand. How does codes solve the problem?

It helps in solving the problem by localizing the problem area, making troubleshooting a lot easier
