Pls sir I want to buy a car BTW evil spirit used and Lexus es330 in Nigeria, pls which should I go for thats economical ,strong and more reliable in terms of fuel consumption and maintenance. Thanks sir

Is the 'Evil spirit' (Accord 2008-2012) an I4 or a V6?

Both are good and reputable cars. The 2008 accord is more modern( recent), though not as equipped and refined as the 2005 ES3330.

This is how you guys contribute to unnecessary hype on certain vehicles, so just because a brand is "not recognised"(whatever that means), makes it a bad choice irrespective of whether it ticks all the boxes?

My apologies sir wink

I have a 2009 Pontiac g6 with 217k miles. Just a few days ago I was driving and everything was fine. Suddenly I couldn't shift into 3rd or 4th gear. I drove about another 30 miles to get home with it only shifting to 2nd gear. Sometimes it has trouble shifting into first gear and sometimes the transmission will just suddenly slip and I won't get anything. Like I said this all happened suddenly didn't have a single problem before. I scanned it and it says shift solenoid B stuck on. Would I be wasting my time opening it up and replacing the solenoids? Hoping to get at least another few months out of it until I can save some money up for a new vehicle. Never had the transmission fluid changed if that matters.

Transmission is on its way out. Either rebuild valvebody (and likely main transmission) or replace transmission

It is a manufacturing defect aggravated by inefficient cooling as a result of using the wrong coolant!!! Keep on using water; distilled or otherwise “eventuarry “ your engine will correct you! I hope you also know that water encourages rust and that the coolant actually also lubricates your water pump and prevents rust.

......

Just read that you correctly stated that anti corrosion properties but i also insist that water is a poor coolant!

Oga, people used the correct coolant (Toyota long life coolant) and still had the problem of stripped bolt. I know of people who have used tap water for years in the 1AZ/2AZ engine with their thermostat intact and never for once did they suffer overheating/stripped headbolt problems.

The issue of stripped head-bolt was simply a manufacturing defect as (in most cases) the 3 bolt threads close to the intake side of the cylinder block was not threaded properly, hence when the engine obtained a threshold number of power strokes (engine running cycles), the clamping force at that side became compromised.
So it had nothing to do with the coolant type used.

kindly read below the TSB from Toyota as regards the issue and enjoy!

WE had the mechanics look at the threads and they were OK. The gasket was changed again and the issues still persisted.

Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Then you may have a cracked engine block
the crack may be internal

Did you also drain your oil to check the condition of the oil?

Please which one is better and economical btw Toyota Camry LE,SE,XLE

Which model year?

Please note that depending on model year, we have 3 engine types:

1. a V6 engine
2. an Inline 4 cylinder engine
3. An inline 4 cylinder engine with hybrid system

No. 3 is the most fuel efficient. No.2 is the best compromise of the 3.

Google stripped bolt 2az-fe. Toyota

3 threads at the back of the block have stripped, replacing gaskets with original metal or graphite will not solve problem.

Engine needs to visit a machine shop for repair of the threads on the block.

Sir, this is the problem affecting your vehicle.

Follow the suggestion as stated by Gazzuzz and you will be fine.

there is no coolant in the coolant container in my hyunadai Tucson 2008 but my engine does not over heat. Do I need to poor coolant?

2. My tires are making wururu sound when on the road I have changed two front bearings in less than a week it continues, what should I do

3. After 30min of driving the acceleration becaomes lazy, needs to be pressed down before it will pick up properly please advice needed

for No. 1 , the reservoir needs to have coolant at a minimum level. top up to that level. also check your radiator coolant level.

for 2, you may have bought defective bearings. Aslo ensure that the dusct shield( the pan behind the brake disk is not turning ) and also ensure your brakes are not binding.

for 3, Ensure your brakes are not binding. Scan your car for codes.

Dear Gurus in-house, I did scan and try all I could with my rewire, to no avail, there is no check engine light on in the dashboard, every other thing works fine except that the car do trip off once in a while, we have changed parts (fan, fuel pump , fuel filter and few other things) the rewire suggests I buy brainbox #140k, I don't just want to start buying parts just to discover it's another that is the issue, moreso the money no be beans ooo.
My thinking is that it's a mechanical issue and not electrical.
Im suspecting the engine oil, the last mech used Mobil 1, though the recommended is total quartz9000 but the mech said they are both same synthetic and same viscosity.
The car is Peugeot 407. The results from the scan is on speed sensors and some other minor.

Get someone who has PP2000 to scan your vehicle

THIS IS ECONOMICS NOT POLITICS, PLEASE!
In May 2015 PMB was inaugurated
In Dec 2015 Argentina President Macri was inaugurated
1. International monetary fund (IMF) offered Nigeria & Argentina a loan
Argentina received $50bn from IMF
PMB declined.
2. IMF ask Nigeria & Argentina to devalue their currency.
Argentina devalued their currency by 566%.
PMB resist devaluation of Naira.
3. IMF ask Nigeria & Argentina to stop defending their currency.
Argentina stop defending their currency through their central bank.
CBN defend our currency & put dollar withdrawal limit to $1000 monthly. That was when some foreign students rain curses on PMB.
LET'S COMPARE ARGENTINA & NIGERIA TODAY.
Argentina can't pay the $50bn they borrowed from IMF.
Nigeria has 0.0000 debt from IMF.
Today inflation (cost of goods) in Argentina is 54.3%
Inflation in Nigeria is 11.24%
Argentina now put monthly dollar withdrawal limit to $200.
Nigeria now lift it's dollar withdrawal limit.
Had PMB not hold his ground & reject IMF offer we may end up like Argentina.
Nigeria is heading towards the right direction and am proud to be part of this Evolution.

God bless you for this post. Nigeria shall be great again!

Exclusive: Kaztec operations grounded

*Workers owed 8-months salary
*Fabrication yard comatose
*Vessels idle

Facilities belonging to Kaztec Engineering Limited, a subsidiary of Chrome Group, an indigenous engineering and fabrication company owned by Chief Emeka Offor, have been grounded over unpaid salaries to workers, contractors, and vendors, SweetcrudeReports can authoritatively report.

The company’s fabrication yard on Snake Island, which houses Badagry Creek Industrial Park Free Trade Zone, licensed in 2014 was grounded in March 2015 when Addax Petroleum had tax issues with the Federal Government, leading to abrupt halt of the platform construction for oil production from Antan and Ofrima/Udele fields.

Investigations revealed that four of the company’s vessels, namely Ekulo Sheyenne (a DP barge), Ekulo Spirit, Ekulo Tornado and Ekulo Explorer are currently in a state of inactivity as both foreign and indigenous crew members have been sent home.

Findings also revealed that contract workers in the fabrication yard were relieved of their duties and sent home without compensation while permanent staff members were redeployed to the company’s head office on Victoria Island, Lagos.

A brief visit to the company’s fabrication yard on Snake Island revealed that the facility, which usually bubbles with activities, is now a shadow of itself as only security personnel were seen guarding the premises.

A staff of the company who did not want his name in print disclosed that salaries had not been paid for eight months while some contractors who are equally being owed have threatened to take legal action against the company.

$1.24bn realised from single source contracts

Investigations revealed that Kaztec Engineering won favourable ‘single source contracts’ valued at $1.244 billion from Addax Petroleum alone between 2009 and 2014.

These ‘single source contracts’ which precluded competitive tender from other companies have raised questions on transparency in the process leading up to the award.

Workers are also asking why a company that has realised so much in terms of contracts awards can not pay salaries to workers.

Sir Emeka Offor’s $10m donation

However, the inability of the company to pay salaries did not hinder Chrome’s Chairman, Sir Emeka Offor to donates $10 million to the Jimmy Carter Foundation to combat River blindness in June 2015.

Despite the non-payment of salaries, the management of the company, as gathered, expects workers to resume work and perform their daily activities without explanation on why salaries have not been paid.

SweetcrudeReports gathered that workers are irked by the company’s inability to pay salaries while chairman of Chrome Group, owners of Kaztec Engineering, confidently made a $10 million donation.

All projects being executed by Kaztec Engineering for Addax Petroleum, Shell and ExxonMobil have since been placed on hold.

Rebuild engine. Piston rings and valve stem seals replacement

My Toyota Camry 2008 model is misbehaving. Just noticed the engine oil dries upto the bottom dot on the oil gauge under a week after service, what could be wrong please, what is the appropriate oil to use? using TOTAL presently, SMH

When doing this,

Ensure you get the exact ( or upgraded exact) piston rings for that specific 2azfe engine fitted to your vehicle.

the 2AZ-FE engines that come with the 2008 camry is not exactly the same with that of the 2002-05 engine with respect to the piston rings and pistons.

This is where part numbers will come in handy

naijadrivablog:
So, my first experience with Mercedes Benz is the MB 190E of my Dad back in the late '90s -2000s.

After then, it has been my car, first a 199-1994 Toyota Corolla, Kia Shuma, Honda Civic etc.

Some days ago, a neighbour needed to by a "clean" Nigerian Used 2002-2006 Mercedes Benz C Class and being more experienced than him, we set out to check out the ones for sale.

First was a Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor (the brainbox is attached just beside the Engine). This one has a Turbo (Kompressor) but after gathering information here on Nairaland, I advised him not to buy it but go for a V6 model (C240- 2.6LV6, C280 - 3.0V6, C320- 3.2V6).

We saw a 2004 C230 but before we went back, someone bought it.

Now, we have seen a C240(I had seen it earlier and took days to ask questions and the Mechanic is open enough to tell me the issues with that particular car - lower control arm, A/C not working, engine oil shorting though not smoking, two back shocks getting weak, several faults in the dash- ABS, Etc. The car just tells you what is wrong with it without scan. The car moves fine and the gear selects well.

I told my neighbor what he has to spend to bring the machine back to standard, but for now, what he must fix when he buys the car is to change the four tires and probably oil servicing.

I tell you, Mercedes Benz should not be compared with other cars because they are in a class of its self. The cornering, balance, "movement"- though C240 is underpowered unlike the C320s, comfort, A/C (their A/C na cold room and cools faster than most cars), and on.

I asked the prices of the parts, which lasts thrice than average parts of other car brands but expensive.

Here are my findings of the prices of the parts of 2002 Mercedes Benz C240 (prices may diver from where you live):

Engine - 120,000 (" skeleton " or half-and-top costs about 90,000)
Gear - 70,000
Lower control arm …8,000
2 front shock absorbers - 24000
2 back shock absorbers - 12,000
Front and back brake changes - 7,000

Give and take, he would spend about 250,000 Naira to fix all the car's wahala (new engine, eventually, etc) and the owner is offering it at 1million Naira (asking price).

Oil- Manufacturer recommends Mobil 1 but my customer who uses 2007 C230 uses Total Quartz 7000

Pls, is there anything else he should look out for before he makes payment. Left to the guy, anything "Benz" just de push am but I told him to consider many factors before buying a car.

The money and time to be spent makes this to be not a wise decision

Look for a very good example and buy sir to save you the stress.

the back wheels of my car makes a whistling sound, what could be the cause and remedy

Check the following:

1. Dust cover plate behind the disc or drum brakes( is it touching the brake disc?)
2. Brake pad condition(is it fully worn?)-if yours is is equipped with rear disc brakes
3. brake shoe lining condition/ parking brake adjustment.

your car;s engine is an interference engine (meaning if timing belts cut, the valves will hit the piston)

I would strong suggest you replace, due to lack of competent mechanics.
