Car Talk / What To Do If Your Car's Engine Overheats by MotorGuru: 5:44pm On Mar 04, 2022 |
The engine is your car’s beating heart and is critical to its overall performance. When the engine in your vehicle overheats, it basically shuts down, resulting in permanent damage. When your engine overheats while you’re driving, it’s never a good thing to deal with. We’ll go over some of the causes of engine overheating, as well as how to deal with it and prevent it. What Causes Engines To Overheat In The First Place? While in operation, the engine in your vehicle goes through a complicated combustion process. This process generates a significant amount of heat, which must be managed in order to prevent the engine from overheating. As a result, your vehicle’s cooling system is activated. The major role of the cooling system is to circulate coolant, which regulates engine temperature, prevents metal-to-metal contact, and safeguards the engine. If any component of the cooling system fails, the system will overheat. Overheating can also be caused by leaking coolant. What should you do if the engine in your automobile overheats? If your engine is overheating, you’ll notice that the temperature is unusually high, and a warning light on your dashboard will most likely illuminate. When your engine overheats, it’s vital to pull over to a safe spot and switch it off. It’s also a good idea to turn on your vehicle’s heat to help the engine cool down. After letting your engine rest for at least 20 minutes, bring your car to a facility for an inspection, while religiously monitoring the temperature gauge. If driving the car is not realistic, call in a tow truck. There is undoubtedly a cooling system issue, and driving with a cooling system issue could result in engine damage that is costly to repair. Do not open the radiator cap when the engine is cooling down! doing this can cause serious injury. Do not open radiator cap while engine is cooling down! How Do You Avoid Overheating Your Engine? The easiest way to keep your engine from overheating is to maintain and service it on a regular basis. If you believe you have an engine or cooling system problem, we strongly advise you to consult a shop right away. Car Talk / Honda Earth Dreams Engine: Engine Oil Dilution Concerns by MotorGuru: 10:20am On Feb 28, 2022 |
https://carfundi.com/2022/02/28/honda-earth-dreams-engine-engine-oil-dilution-concerns/ You may have an engine oil dilution problem if you own a Honda CRV or Civic with the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. Over a million Honda CRVs and Civics from 2016 are affected by the engine oil dilution issue. Fuel seeps into the engine crankcase during cold temperatures. It combines with the oil, causing the oil level to rise to abnormal levels. The mixing also reduces the viscosity of the engine oil to dangerously low levels, putting the engine at risk of catastrophic damage. This issue has prompted service campaigns and class action lawsuits in nations where Hondas equipped with this engine are sold, including the United States. The Problem The engine in question uses Honda’s “Earth Dreams” technology, which is a direct-injection engine that injects high-pressure gasoline into the combustion chamber. This engine is recognized for its performance and fuel efficiency, although it has issues with engine oil dilution. Because the sprayed fuel does not entirely burn off in some circumstances and under certain operating conditions, it trickles down to the crankcase and mixes with the engine oil. The constant dilution raises the oil level in the crankcase and lowers the viscosity of the oil. Engine damage is more likely as a result of this reality. Check engine lights were illuminated, there was a stench of gasoline fumes in the cabin, and the engine misfired, according to owners of such vehicles. When driving, the fumes could make owners dizzy. What you can do to help To address this issue, Honda in 2019 extended the powertrain warranty of all vehicles equipped with the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine in all 50 states of the United States to six years and unlimited mileage, regardless of the weather. Whether you own one of these vehicles, make sure to check with your local dealership to see if you’re eligible. These cars’ engines rely on heat from the engine to burn off the gasoline vapors. Avoid frequent starts and stops as much as possible, and make sure your vehicle is close to operating temperature before driving. This method may be useful in resolving the issue. 1 Like |
Car Talk / How To Keep Your BMW From Overheating by MotorGuru: 6:55pm On Feb 25, 2022 |
https://carfundi.com/2022/02/25/how-to-keep-your-bmw-from-overheating/#more-86 Your BMW is one of the most exciting and athletic automobiles available today. However, one of the most common issues associated with BMW automobiles is overheating, which can be an Achilles heel for a drivetrain that is otherwise sturdy and reliable. Understanding how your car’s cooling system works and what to do if it overheats can help you avoid avoidable breakdowns and thousands of dollars in repair costs. What Are the Causes of Overheating? Because your car engine operates at such high temperatures, a method of continuously eliminating the heat created is required to avoid a meltdown and component failure. The cooling system circulates a specially formulated coolant through the engine to remove excess heat and maintain the engine’s designed operating temperature. A radiator, water pump, cooling fans, coolant lines, and a thermostat are all part of the cooling system. Cooling system components are subjected to significant cyclic thermal loads and fatigue over a lengthy period of time. It may result in the failure of these components. Overheating can be caused by a jammed thermostat, clogged radiator, malfunctioning cooling fans, failing water pump, or a ruptured hose. Some important components in BMW cooling systems are made of plastic, which can wear out as early as 100,000 miles in some circumstances. Allowing the engine to overheat unattended might result in severe engine damage. Preventive Steps To Prevent Overheating To get the most out of your BMW, make a list of all maintenance and service procedures in the owner’s manual and follow them. It’s the same with your engine’s cooling system. A few simple techniques can assist prevent overheating, which can result in lasting engine damage. Check your coolant level as directed in your owner’s handbook on a regular basis. If you run out of coolant, keep an extra bottle of antifreeze and a gallon of distilled water in your trunk, especially if you’re going on a long trip. Keep an eye on your engine coolant temperature indicator, especially on hot days (where you would require air-conditioning). If the engine appears to be overheating (as indicated by the temperature indicator), turn on the heat to maximum. To stay up to date on coolant service flush intervals, always consult your owner’s manual. Overheating should be addressed right away and taken to a professional service center for diagnosis and repair. What you would need: Preparation: Detailed knowlege of current out put(HP and Torque) at defined RPMs (info obtained from Dyno) Items: 2. Matchable turbocharger and associated kit( after target HP and Torque have been agreed upon) 3. Waste-gate 4. Inter-cooler 5. Associated plumbing kit(Manifold to inter-cooler and then to radiator) 6. New exhaust manifold system to be fabricated to fit selected turbocharger 7. New intake manifold system to be fabricated to fit inlet side of Turbocharger 8. Upgraded Pistons and Connecting rods( in order to handle high boost pressures). This means an engine teardown 8a. Upgraded crankshaft (may not be required) 9. Redesigned camshaft profiles (may be taken care of by proper engine mapping since engine is VVT) 10. Wiring harness 11. Engine (ECU) mapping service 12.Transmission internals upgrade and TCU mapping (transmission will be torn-down and internals upgraded to handle the increased HP and Torque) 13. Upgraded radiator/engine cooling system 14.Possible structural modification/fabrication to allow new parts. 15. Experienced personnel/ Engineers to handle the job And some i may have forgotten to mention This may set you back 30-50K USD (more than 4 times the amount for your car if you are considering value) 1 Like |

mbahjohnpaul: it is a good car(particularly the 2006 model year, where most of the transmission problems have been addressed). Reliable too. Ensure you use only Honda recommended fluids particularly for its power steering, rear differential and automatic transmission. If not expect early failure. Resale value is quite poor compared to a 2006 RX330 or even a 2006 highlander |
