In Islam, the woman's income belongs exclusively to her, while the husband (or father/ brother etc if she is unmarried) is obliged to spend on her. This is enforceable by the Sharia, and what obtains in Muslim majority countries, even in the North. It is why Muslim women often do not feel the need to find a job.
