onomeasike: if you read the history of the Yorubas,you will know they are naturally gifted in the art of war.They even had their own civil war before the Nigerian civil war!they constitute the greatest number of Africans recruited by britian for the first world war(see BURMA BOY by Philip Barnaby of Aljazeera.Clearly,they are more war-tested than their southern neighbours.It is not an accident that even the biafran forces that made the greatest impact in the biafran war was led by a Yorubaman .Clearly,that it took the Yoruba stopping him was not an accident.A northerner would never had matched the sophistry of Banjo!!

As regards the point where Fani-kayode refered to Awo,clearly,that is an attempt to denigrate Awo.Awo participated in Gowon's govt after Gowon promised to conduct elections and transfer power to the politicians.How Fani-kayode now decietfully infered that the patriotic request Awo made to Gowon automatically means that Awo was promised the presidency is typical Fani-kayode's loquacious personae.If Awo wanted to be the president at all cost,he would not have resigned from Gowon's govt.

I'm forced to agree with you that Igbos should fold their arms and watch a duet between the Northerners and the south-south, but don't you think that Igbos and south-south have been intertwined that it will be very difficult for it not to affect the Igbos. Don't forget that there's a huge indegenous Igbo population in the south-south. Don't also forget that the Efik/Ibibios who were our best friends during the war are also in the south-south. Don't also forget that the south-east Igbo population in the south-south is one of the largest. So, we're gonna be affected just as much as the south-southerners. I foresee a situation where other south-south groups that have been following Ijaws like 1diots as south-south aka Niger Delta will denounce their Ijaw brothers and be looking for new alliances. This is going to be a blockbuster movie with all the intrigues and betrayals. Let's watch and see how events will unfold.

Modern day Yoruba race must have learnt from Awo's betrayal and will never give the North Access to the Ocean anymore. Onlytruth: My first input is that the North is obviously trying again to scare the Yoruba into stabbing the south in the back; and I repeat -AGAIN ( at least to be their open conquered territory to the sea), because they believe that Yoruba is the weakest link in the south. Do you notice that they did not even mention Edo or even Cross river side, not to talk of Igbo land? So, they figure that Yoruba is the weakest link and they need to remind them of that, lest they forget. haha.
I personally foresee a situation whereby the North forgets about the East (provided the East stays united -the fear of the Igbo by the North is the reason they would do this), and concentrate on using the West to access the sea. That sea access is the North's major concern.

Anyone who thinks that the Igbo would sit out a war in our own backyard is wrong, and the North knows.

My guy, the reason history serves as a guide is so that we don't repeat the same mistake. Standing aside, and watching, aboki slaughter people in our backyard, in the name of some sweet revenge, is the worst that can ever happen to us.

The sad thing is that you are not reading the signs of the time - middle belt, and bulk of Yorubas' will not fight the next Nigeria civil war, if there must be one. Standing shoulder to shoulder with Ijaws is enough to stare down the rampaging 'jihadist.' We need to bury the 'differences' with Ijaws caused the civil war. Now is the time! Igbos silence at this tiime, should not be interpreted as sign of acquiescence to the shenanigans happening around us. When the push turn to a shove, our backyard shall not be a theater of war. If it does, we shall not stand aside, or count on any concession aboki will offer us in exchange to betray our cousin. I just read 'Awolowo was promised "Presidency" how come all I heard he got was 'poison'?

Our quarrel with Ijaw is settled. Observers only have to look at the 2011 election to see that. Besides, is it possible for the North to fight Ijaws without hurting Igbos. I think not. So that yeye aboki better be doing his arithmetic correctly, his is either fighting the entire eastern region or not fighting anyone. Military corridors in SE to attack the Ijaw is BS, only an aboki can conjure such stupid.ity!

Prominent Northern Muslims elders, represented by Alhaji Usman Faruk, a former military governor of North-West State during the General Yakubu Gowon regime, have dismissed the threats of the leader of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF), Mujahideen Dokubo Asari, telling him to go and brush up on his History of Nigeria.

The response came yesterday at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna wher Faruk, a frequent face at the Sheik Ahmad Gumi’s Ramadan sermon, was asked to speak, from the elders’ perspective, on Asari’s threat to Northern Nigeria.


Faruk said that before the start of the civil war in 1967, his government set Chief Obafemi Awolowo free from prison although it was another government that had put him there.

“Eventually when the war was to start with Biafra, [Awolowo] went to Ibadan and gathered all Yorubas that they should know the war about to commence was between the North and the East, and the Yoruba in the West were not part of it,” he said.

“We received this with shock and the whole Northerners met in Kaduna and we issued them a warning that we heard they (Yoruba) were not part of it and we agreed but we have one demand,” he said.

That condition, according to him was the establishment of a One Mile Corridor. “From Offa which is in our region, from the rail line to the sea (wharf) we declare One Mile Military Corridor, meaning all of them who built houses within One Mile, we will crush down their houses. And nobody will stop our vehicles and vessels from accessing the sea, this we told our Yorubas in Ilorin to tell them. And from that time we never hear them. This is Military Corridor, we of the past hope our children will carry it,” warning that nobody could stop the people of the North, whom he said number 120 million, from accessing the sea.

“If he doesn’t know let Dokubo go and read history,” Faruk said. “Awolowo attempted he failed talk less of one boy.”[/b]

truefact: this is totally unfair, you cant use people's life to settle war. why will Nigeria trade other people's destiny to settle their dispute. it's quite unfair to sell another tribe in other regain another tribe. the civil war was between nigerian and biafra, why then do nigeria sacrifice bakassian to have biafra?

those who supported the idea should asked themselves, if the are west, would they allowed part of the land to be ceded to Benin republic, if they are north, would allow any part go to Niger republic, and if the east, would they allow any part of the land to another tribe, now it is south, everybody is saying they should become Cameroonian. it's very bad.

the south should not allow this, i rather bakassi become a country of their own than coming back to this silly nigeria that throw them away, but i prefer the south form their own country with their oil.
