A 40-year-old man, Umar Muhammad Ahmad, was on Saturday killed by a group of armed youngsters, allegedly believed to be phone snatchers

Before his demise, late Umar Muhammad was a staff of the National Commission for Museum and Monument, Kaduna office.

A source in Fagge who preferred anonymity disclosed that late Umar met his untimely death while strolling home through an area near an uncompleted flyover at Kantin Kwari market when the phone snatchers overpowered him and stabbed him to death with an object believed to be a knife.

He further disclosed that “Late Umar Ahmad slumped at the spot gasping for breath, blood oozing from the wounded part of his body, while the suspected thieves disappeared into thin air along with the snatched phone.”

It was also disclosed that Umar who was unconscious was rushed to Kofar Wambai Police station to lodge the case and later taken to Abdullahi Wase Specialists Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Late Umar however was buried on Sunday in Kano. He is survived by a wife and three children.

Phone snatching and killing of the owners by youngsters has become a common occurrence in Kano. Security agents have been arresting a number of them and charging them to court.

Cross River: Police parades Inspector for alleged gun running, 24 others for various

The Cross River State Police command has paraded one of its personnel, Inspector Nathaniel Manasseh, for alleged gun running.

The command also paraded 29-yr-old suspects, Mr. Akaniyene Inyang Umoh, for alleged arson and participating in the burning down of Ini Police headquarters in Akwa Ibom.
Umoh was arrested by the police detectives in Cross River after he fled from Ini.

Also paraded by the police are twenty three other suspected criminals picked by the police for various ranging from murder,illegal possession of firearms armed robbery, and cultism.

Speaking while parading the suspects at the state police headquarters Diamond Hill, Calabar, the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sikiru Akande, urged the residents of the state to assist the police with useful information that could aid in the arrest of criminals.

The police commissioner said: “Cross River is regaining its lost glory in the area of security. As a matter of fact, we remain the most peaceful state in Nigeria and nothing can break out resolve.

“For our achievement, today is not unconnected with corporation enjoyed by well meaningful citizens, critical security stakeholders and corporate bodies that meets regularly to reevaluate our performance so far and the need for improvement that has led to what you are seeing today.

“I want to equivocally state clear that for the police to function effectively and efficiently in any developed society requires citizen’s participation, collaborative partnership and willingness of the community to constantly equip the police with useful information that can forestall unpleasant occurrence.”
Akande revealed that amongst those apprehended include an Inspector of Police, who usually gives out their riffles on “rent” to notorious criminals and is a member of a gun running syndicate.

He further said three persons were arrested for murder, nine for armed robbery, six for cultism, while three others were arrested for gun running, including the Inspector, as well as one for car snatching and another for arson.

Items recovered includes one unregistered Sports Utility Vehicle SUV from some criminals said to be one of the vehicles stolen around the Cross River Basin Authority during the #End SARS protest.

But reacting to his arrest, the police inspector, Manasseh, admitted that he lost some rifles, claiming that he was charmed and spouses of two AK-47 and a vehicle.

He said: “I was assigned to convey two criminals from Obubra LGA of Cross River State to Owerri and unfortunately I was charmed by one of the criminals along the road and the criminals flee away with a vehicle and guns said to be property of the police.
“But I reported to the command and the police went after the criminals and got the criminals with the police guns recovered.”

A medical doctor, Jane Chioma Ofoma, has been arrested in Auchi, Edo State, by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), for allegedly operating an online catering service, Omachi’s kitchen, through which she sells drugged cookies and biscuits.

Following intelligence and surveillance, narcotic officers of the Edo State Command of the Agency on Saturday, June 19, 2021, stormed her operational base at No. 1 Winners way, Auchi, where she was arrested and at least 94 pieces of cookies produced with cannabis Sativa were recovered.

According to NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, Chioma, 26, who is a graduate of medicine from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka recently completed her housemanship at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. She has confessed to baking the cookies with skunk in her statement while under interrogation.

“In the same vein, a 30-year-old Emmanuel Ehiramhen, of No. 10 Egan Street Ekpoma, has been arrested by officers of the Edo Command of the Agency for dealing in crack cocaine,” Babafemi said.

Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Kwara State have arrested a 52-year-old ex-Soldier, Ibrahim Musa with 12.167 kilograms of Arizona (cannabis sativa), 4 grams of Cocaine and 25 grams of flunitrazepam.

The suspect was apprehended on Thursday 17th June, 2021 at Oke-Odo, Tanke area of Ilorin metropolis when he arrived from Lagos to supply his customers.

“Sgt Ibrahim Musa who worked in the maintenance department at Abati Army Barracks, Lagos from where he was deployed to 117 Battalion in Chibok, Borno State before he deserted the Army had arrived Ilorin in company of his wife, Basirat Musa in his Honda Accord car with registration number JJ 707 BL Lagos with the seized exhibit. He was however arrested at the point of delivery by operatives of Kwara State Command of the Agency,” Babafemi said.

“Under interrogation, Ibrahim revealed that while at Chibok he got the connection of a supplier of Arizona (Cannabis) and other drugs in Lagos who he immediately contacted when he deserted the Army in October 2020.

“He said he decided to go into the illicit drug business to enable him fend for his two wives and three children. The suspect revealed that the latest journey was his second trip to Ilorin to deliver the drugs and decided to travel with one of his wives who was not aware of his mission to Ilorin.”

Reacting to the arrests, Chairman/CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the Edo and Kwara state Commands of the Agency for their vigilance and commitment to the goal of ridding Nigeria of the menace of illicit drug trafficking and abuse.

He charged the Commanders, officers, and men of the two Commands and their counterparts across the country not to relent in the discharge of their responsibilities while assuring them that he will continue to make their welfare a priority.
