EducationRe: OAU Vs UI, Which Is The Best? by MrEgghead(m): 1:33pm On Jan 22, 2017
asuustrike2009:
What am saying is that graduate from universities although not all in Nigeria can't express themselves well whereas holders of primary six or ssce can in most cases. The question is do you agree that being educated is paramount to having a university degree?
Does university education teaches how to speak English flawlessly? the environment you were born into and your basic education determine how fluent your grammar would be but we've seen several persons who didn't have sound basic education but are still doing well in the aspect of grammar.
bottom -line:Blunder or no blunder is not a yardstick for determining the best university or whatsoever.

SportsI Saved #50 To Watch Aguero,says Iheanacho. by MrEgghead(op): 7:06pm On Jan 19, 2017
I PAID 50 NAIRA TO WATCH AGUERO, SAYS MANCHESTER CITY'S IHEANACHO Tomiwa Babalola The forward has revealed how he saved up a token to watch the Argentine score the title-winning goal for the Citizens in 2012 Nigeria international, Kelechi Iheanacho has disclosed that he had to save up 50 naira to watch Sergio Aguero scored the title winning goal for Manchester City in the 2012/13 Premier League season. The 20-year-old forward, who joined the Citizens two seasons ago, said that was the club’s first match he would watch, adding that he never knew he would play alongside the same set of players he watched on the television. "There was one place in town that everybody called the 'game center,' and it had a satellite dish, but you had to pay money to go inside," Iheanacho told Theplayerstribune. "It was 50 naira [about 15p] for a Premier League match, and I did not have that kind of money. So I would wait outside playing football with my mates until somebody came out and told us what had happened in the match. "In 2012, when I was 15, I saved some money and went to the game center on the last day of the Premier League season. It was a very big deal, because the title race was so close. "I sat there and watched Sergio Aguero score the last- minute goal that won Man City the title -- and that took it away from Man United. On the TV, Sergio took his shirt off and whipped it around, and everybody in the game center was going crazy." "That was maybe the first Man City game I ever watched. I had never been to England before. I had no idea that in a few years, I would be playing on the same team as Sergio," he continued. "Because I was only 19, I did not expect to be in the starting XI," he added. "When the manager told me that I was going to start, I tried to tell myself, 'it's just a game of football,' but if I am telling the truth, it is not a normal game. "The atmosphere and intensity gives you a very different feeling as soon as you step on the pitch. It's war for 90 minutes in the Manchester Derby. You cannot give anything less than 100 percent concentration. So I just tried to focus completely on the match. "I was so happy, but then in the 36th minute, something really amazing happened. I was standing in front of the United goal when Kevin [De Bruyne's] shot struck the post. The ball came right to my feet. I kicked it into the back of the net without thinking. I looked over to the linesman, not believing that I had really scored. The flag was down. I was onside. "My teammates ran over to me, and I felt what I can only describe as the 'Manchester Derby feeling.' No one can know how I felt unless they've scored in the derby. I did not even celebrate. The feeling was too much." Privacy Policy Terms of Service About Us Contact Us Copyright © 2017 Goal.com Alts reserved. EducationRe: Can An Average Student Study Medicine? by MrEgghead(m): 2:09pm On Jan 17, 2017
Stevebamdex:
My brother wants to study medicine in the university for him to become a medical doctor.
But it has obviously shown that he is an average student at best.
And we all know how terrifying the course could be even for those that are extraordinarily brillant.
My question now is,can he catch up in the long run if he eventually succeeded taking up the course or it will be a journey to no where and a waste of time?
Although,he is having a great passion for the course but this guy is far below of what I can term a genius.
Any student who could scale through the hurdles of Waec and jamb examinations in Nigeria would be successful as a medical student if he is so enthusiastic about it..Most who failed out in Medical school were those who were compelled by either friends or family to study medicine. If he loves being a doctor, let him go for it provided that he wrote those aforementioned exams himself.

my waec result:
English B3
Math. C5
Chen. B3
phy C5
biology C5

please I need ur advice, I don't wanna sit at home again
Adjudging from last year's admission, your chances of getting medicine with this five olevel results is very low, albeit with a high jamb score..But,if the rest of your olevel subjects results are filled with distinctions, I would urge you to pick OAU because it might eventually favour you.But be ready to cope with the erratic calendar of OAU.
SportsRe: Poor Officiating From Referee Folusho Ajayi Ruins Opening Match Of NPFL by MrEgghead(m): 1:27pm On Jan 15, 2017
Kelklein:
The problem is not the gender of the referee but the abysmal level of impunity in the Nigerian system.

If you know there will be a heavy fine as a result of your behavior..you will definitely behave well

My question is: are there no other means of registering their dissatisfaction with the officiating than walking out of the pitch. We've seen clear cases of bad officiating in Europe and other places now and then, no one walks off the pitch cos that could earn the club an entire season ban from all football related activities. But in this clime, the way we do things makes me question the average black man's sanity..

That's why we don't do much in most of the things we do.
And this reminds me of OVREBO,the man who officiated the game between chelsea and Barcelona in 2009..One thing is that the referees are humans as well and are predisposed to mistakes. It's just that our league's officials and authorities are so incompetent and lack professional measures to run the league. In as much as OVREBO was never allowed to officiate a high profile match, the likes of Drogba and Ballack were severely sanctioned for expressing their reservations after the match..our league needs a committed sponsor and whole overhaul.

i have been observing over time that university doesn't admit much in dental surgery.

What you think is the cause?

Is it a rule from Mdcn or numbers of interested candidates is low?

Is it too much competition?

EducationRe: How Do Improve My Speaking And Writing Abilities by MrEgghead(m):
Pharmumar:
Greetings to my family, friends and superiors in dis great forum. To start with, I am a 200l undergraduate student studying in one of the prestigious universities in Nigeria. I find it difficult to write very well and my command of english is poor. I have searched on line where i was given tips such as reading a lot of books, watching movies e.t.c. but all to no avail. Even though effective communication is not a yardstick to measure intelligence, i find it embarassing not partcipating in group discussions within my mates and even if i do, i always lack d right words to use when talking. In addition to dat, wen eva an event is organised and am required to write abt it or abt my experience in a pace, i wouldnt b able to. If an argument ensues in my class whatsapp group btw one of my mates and i, am always mute not becos i am dumb but becos i find it very difficult to argue contructively. Any tip(s) aside the aforementioned ones would help me pls. Thanks in anticipation as u contribute to help a stranded friend.
your constraint is simply low self esteem.Improve on this aspect and you're good to go.The only difference between you and your friends is that you're always afraid not to make mistakes because you think they might laugh you.And don't tell me you haven't heard them made mistakes. so it simply means no one is perfect. Even the greatest speakers of today make mistakes; some of which go unnoticed because they speak with confidence.Personally, I was in the same shoes as you before but I realised being afraid to speak even made me worse..Since I'm not too good at making people laugh, If they are able to laugh at my mistakes, I think I've achieved something tangible;Atimes it makes you more famous. Why do you think patience is more famous than Aisha?Even though,She knew she had committed blunders on numerous occasions, It didn't stop her from speaking with confidence.. And I'm very sure you're much better than her..Learn to accept your mistakes as part of the fun.No amount of books will help you my guy..The ball is in your court!

We can not keep hiding under this factor not to get things done. There have been some level of transparency in the scheme.
I have to commend this govt for some level of transparency in their social schemes. At least for once we have seen people who never knew anybody being beneficiaries. Even on NL herr, u see people showing their alerts and all that. It may not be 100% but far better than the past. We are getting there.
The question is 'for how long will the scheme lasts?I believe there are numerous other ways in which the scheme can be twisted even with the retention of Its goals and objectives. It could have been implemented in a form 'Entrepreneurship'.The funds can be used to start up something meaningful that brings profit. 'Teach me how to catch fish rather than giving me fish'..when you worked for something, you would value that thing to the core..It's disheartening that the stipends may even do more harm than good.

Spare us all this stale boring lines. There is absolutely nothing wrong in this scheme. If u want to be a developed country, its time we start doing what developed countries do for their citizens. 5k may not be enough, but someone who eats now and doesn't know when next he will eat, or for someone who doesn't even have an idea of what to eat, 5k to him is a big relief at least. This social scheme is practised in the UK, in the US and other developed countries. While some live on Government stipends, some are alao trained on different vacations. There are different social schemes. The Government giving 5k to her extremely pior citezens is commendable and a good start.
You may have made points in your writings but the truth is,Nigeria's factors such as Godfatherism and self servicing mentality wouldn't let the scheme to be a successful one.And the question is 'have they put all logistics in place to ensure that the scheme is well And widely implemented? I still maintain my stance though!

A total of about 8,000 accredited poor Nigerians from the selected 12 Local Government Areas of Osun State will benefit in the conditional cash transfer of the Federal Government.

The disbursement of the N5000 monthly stipend, which is currently on-going in some states of the federation, has started in the state.

The Unit Head for the cash transfer in Osun State, Mrs Adeola Oyebamiji, said during the disbursement exercise of the December and January months’ stipend in Ife north local government Secretariat that subsequent payment would be made via bank transfer to all beneficiaries.

Mrs Oyebamiji said the aim of the scheme was to reduce poverty among the most vulnerable Nigerians.

Some beneficiaries of the conditional cash transfer appreciated the gesture of the Federal Government and assured judicious use of the money.

The Federal Government had listed Osun State among the nine pilot states for the scheme.

Now,I knew I was only blinded by sentiments and hatred towards GEJ and his cohorts.perhaps,I was tired of his administration with no genuine reasons which instigated my lack of interest for him.I apologise to everyone I compelled to vote in this present administration via my actions and inactions. It's vivid PMB and his cohorts are bereft of visionary ideas and principles to propel this national into a considerable height.I don't see how this policy will change the present predicament. Nigeria's factor wouldn't even let the monies to get to their expected destinations..personally, I don't believe in giving money to people because for how long will the money sustain them rather I engage them or teach them how to make money independently..

He just needs two witnesses and his bride. He can decide to do a more elaborate ceremony when he can afford to.

He is an adult after all and we all have to live with our choices in life

Your brother is acting like an overfed spoilt child that depends on his mum for everything. You guys should resist and fight against him getting married unless you are ready to provide money to feed him and his wife.

All the same, the future is uncertain, he might tomorrow become financially buoyant but financial stability in marriage is of paramount importance.
Thanks.

Pls support him if as your brother you are sure he is responsible..let him have a church wedding where he won't be spending much,. @ least.

Mum shouldn't worry about the fact that she still funds him in virtually every major project he carries out...He is no fool, he also feels bad about this. Things are just still rough for him.

And you, Mr student..i am sure deep within, you are not on his side cos he has not been of help(financially) to you and he is shortening your ration from your mum's side. Take it easy, grin grin

I am no prophet but I can swear things will get better for him when he gets married. Screen munch this post and get back to me a year or 2 after his wedding.
Thank you. I just feel for him.but demanding money from one's parent for the sake of marriage is weird to me.

No matter how people try to downplay the importance of money, it is indeed paramount.

You are right to point out these issues as he might still come back as a married man to ask your mom for money (probably at all times), thereby putting his wife as an added responsibility on your mom.

Bottom line, if he and his wife are ready to take care of themselves, and your mum (every now and then), they can do whatever they like. But if not, there's no harm in waiting a little longer.

Another question is; Are you sure the reason why he's not bringing out any money is because he's saving for his own life?
Thank you.And to your question,I'm pretty sure he doesn't have enough for himself.I don't believe he's even saving much because if he were,he wouldn't demand 100k from our mum.

Hy nairalanders,

I'm 22,a penultimate student of one of the federal universities in Nigeria. My elder brother,30,lives in Abeokuta, Nigeria. He wants to get married this year but I don't think he's matured yet financially. He gained admission into a college of technology, Osun state, that was in 2009,finished his OND program in 2012..since we were kids,we've been funded by a single mother following the demise of out father. My mother has done everything a good mother could do for her wards;we lacked nothing. My brother has been working for the past four years, yet nothing to show for his efforts. He still demands money from our mother when the need arises, yet, he hardly sends me money whenever I demand.I know he is financially broke,he's not being pretentious. My mom even sent him 100K last year just to help him settle down but the situation seems bad. But,I still believe It won't last forever..Now,He's demanding some money from my mum for his wedding. This thought makes me petulant, poignant and frustrated at the same time. our mum is actually not in support and she has reiterated the she won't give him. Now,my brother thinks I poisoned my mum's heart against him but I'm not bulged. My question is:should we back off judging from the fact that he's financially broke and has no stable job for sustainable income or should we support hoping things will get better?
