JBRichard: Hello. Nairalanders. I don't know if this is the right platform to get advice. I got admission into a university in the south south region. Initially I had the inspiration to study Biochemistry. But I was disgraced in school after heads of the school said I don't know what to do.... They urged me to go for Medicine and surgery . They usually say I have the capacity. I never had any mentor after my aunt passed away. Then I found a love for nursing science (my mom said I should do this cause it's not lengthier and because if it's professionalism), bioengineering (it's scarce to find universities that offer this. There are though!) One of my uncle added a Basic Medical Science course because I didn't choose my uni on time and time was not on my side. I got admitted and checked that my departmental cut off was way above nursing which I would have been contented to the least. My direct uncle don't seem to care about my schooling but their own children. I've damned them because I can't bow down to any man (I've tried to treat them good but to know avail). My mother is trying her best but a single mom. I don't have anyone in this life. Given up hope.... Maybe in God but he still keeps me alive. They always say it's gonna get better. School is resuming and don't have anything to start with. Anyway, I've been thinking about this situation but now I feel glad when I love to study Biochemistry, wanting to study medicine (cause I feel it's a superior course) and want to engage in Bioengineering as my second bachelor or major. I don't know what to do?? Help me out!
I've a family man of 50+ in my class..Kannayo Kannayo got his LL.B degree at 54 ..Obasanjo acquired a degree after being the president. If all these people can't motivate you, nothing else can.
XXXXTENTACION: Yeah fellas whats the most brutal rejection you have ever recieved from a lady
for me it's just happened that i was just chicking this girl and everything was just moving smoothly i was very happy that yeah she will finally accept me only for her to tell me that yeah bro i like you and i think you are smart but i won't be able to date you cause you are too short. And i was like what the fvck
I don't get rejected because I don't toast girls, it's girls that toast me...The girl I'm dating did everything to get me.. There's another one sef that's just deceiving herself not me...I don't even give any girl the chance to reject me..I noticed girls flock around guys with one or two formidable achievements not necessarily your physical appearance.
AntichristXXX: Why Jamb again? Just go through DE. Abeg it's worth it if it's medicine you wan go for. You go finish and within few years you'll catch up with most of your mates that finished that chemistry course.
Spark2: Dear Nairaland, I am in a state of dilemma now. Choosing between going for masters and pursuing my passion of studying medicine is quite difficult for me.
I studied chemistry Education, graduated well, served and I'm now teaching. I am barely two years into the profession and I am already tired of it. I feel I deserve a career not just a work. A career in medicine for me is something that I belive will make me happy. it's something I can do even if I'm not paid for....I'm 25 years and I feel I have no time again.
I hope to go pick up a JAMB form this week to pursue my passion and happiness. I will not want to make any mistake here. So I believe hearing from people who have been in this shoe will guide me.
Have you been in this situation? Did you pursue your passion? Please share your story, age at which this decision was taken and how it has impacted your life.
This will go a long way in guiding me through this critical decision.
Thank you
I studied Agric Econs for my 1st degree, then I sat for JAMB UTME in final year and now I'm in 200L. I've never regretted my decision for a single day..In some countries , you must have a degree before going to Medical school..It's Medicine or nothing for me, that was my mantra.
kalu61: Do you have idea about Werner, pulisic pace when you press Chelsea and leave a marathon space? Do you know Tuchel has kept 18 clean sheets?
"Maybe pep or other coaches haven't seen this" Everybody na coach sha
Werner's pace has always been a problem for any team that plays high defense line, it's just his finishing that's poor.. Reece James must start than final, he gives me joy.
israelp: so fernadinho nr play slf,.. Dat 1guy na 2standing 4 for city,.. Hw chelsea 1 take win wen em go play 12 vs 11 ...mark dis word all chelsea fan,pep wil his football cheat come may29 ...d man behind dis ?is FERNADINHO watch n c
Fernadinho started the FA cup semi-final and they still lost..You just have to love this Chelsea team.
Only Kante with his speed and power will remove Fernadinho from the equation.
McStoic: It doesn't count and you are chalking up my comments? Chaiii. Anyways, we are in a public forum and I have equal rights to express my opinion. He did compare doctors to other health professionals and i just mirrored his submissions.
As for me, give me pharmacists and take doctors. I have doctors as relations and friends who I love and admire, but pharmacy appeals more to me. Cos you tend to achieve more in shorter time when compared to medicine
Talking of achievements, what are your indicators of achievement ? Money? prestige? or what? If it's money, MDs are also doing well, some work for governments and own private hospitals. And I know you can't compare an average pharmacy to an average private hospital.
If it's prestige, Medical doctors are up the ladder.
In government owned clinics, a MD earns twice of what a pharmacist on the same level earns.
if it's job descriptions, Medical doctors are the leaders in the healthcare setting, your opinion about his patient almost doesn't even count and you'll always play a second fiddle in the clinical setting..
We all know some of you wanted to study Medicine and Surgery but couldn't and you've taken solace in your new love and that's understandable and that doesn't mean you shouldn't sound objective.
I'm not the type that likes all this unnecessary comparison because everyone can not be in the same profession BUT because you typed as if Pharmacy has now become the alpha and Omega , I just decided to put some things into perspectives.
McStoic: I like your healthy and mature line of argument anyways, but i still stand by my earlier submissions. I love pharmacy more than medicine. Peace.
The op didn't compare Medicine and pharmacy, and yet you decided to derail the thread with your MBBS vs Pharmacy arguments, that's a sure sign of insecurity and complex issue.
Teejeybaba: My mind full of depression, anytime i remembered what students passed through before you can get any certificate in my dear country Nigeria. After all this struggle, someone will still find it difficult to get a job. Some will still go ahead for their masters or Phd at the end you still find yourself without job. My thoughts now was, should the less privileged person just go for ND and also acquire skill work?.
If we don't acquire the degree , who will treat you when you're sick?
adanny01: To succeed in Civil engineering, you must be enterprising and an entrepreneur. Once good in all 3 skill set, you are sure to hammer better than a Pharmacist
The number of those practising Engineering compared to the number of graduates is few in Nigeria.
pwettyme: Dropping the same similar responses to you cos you obviously need help..... I am not the cause of your frustration..... Pele o! How many of some of this medicines and medical equipments such as hand gloves , x-ray machines, and even common infrared thermometer and the likes are being produced and marketed by doctors and pharmacist 90% percent of importers of medical supplies from Malaysia are business people.... If the pharmacists go to import and sell in wholesalesale prices who will do the prescription for the masses. Common sense is actually not common. Go Google "health investments and the likes" . How many registered and certified pharmacist can even open one pharmacy. For your information, business inclined people open this businesses and employ this pharmacist.... And if I decide to pursue my interests in prescription how does that make me a quack. Was they any mention of me saying I give prescriptions....but you will not comprehend when I say I have adept knowledge of administrations of drugs. If only you asked how I knew Took my time to school you cos you obviously are adamant.
In sane clime, you'd have been arrested before completing the statement that you have in-depth knowledge of prescriptions of drugs for children and adults? For real? you're not a trained Medical doctor or atleast a pharmacists! and you're prescribing drugs. I pity your clients but hope is OTC drugs to begin because you may been causing harm to people in guise of help..Do you know most of these drugs have terrible complications? Do you know Chloramphenicol can destroy your bone marrow totally if not used under the tutelage of a trained doctor. Now, I've schooled you....Because Nigeria is a lawless country , pls don't prescribe outside over the OTC drugs.
osejie17: Good morning my fellow Nairalander. I just lost ma dad this Saturday 24. and I'm just depressed right now. can't stop crying because he died in my hands on the hospital bed. the pain is too much for me. pls friends wat can I do ti make dis pain go away I can't sleep. I loved him so much. and he's just 63. I'm just depressed. pls help me
It's very difficult to pull through especially for the first few days..Relish the good memories you both had and have the mindset that your Dad was not going to live forever afterall, then you'll be fine..At this time, you have get busy especially with your work..This will help you reduce the time you'll spend grieving. Just be strong brother
pwettyme: Not a certified pharmist but have adept knowledge of the business and prescriptions for both adult and children. Most wholesalers of patent drugs are mostly business people. Reasons why I would have my loved one to take this up. The foundation is solid.
What do you know about prescription? you think it's by those trial and error you're doing...What do you know about the pathophysiology of disease you're prescribing drugs for? Aunty rest.
TheBoy1740: It's funny how you added pathology, when their patients are actually the dead.
You're confidently spewing rubbish. Pathologists are just like detectives, they conduct and interpret laboratory test results for treating patients..How can you have a dead person as a patient??
Draslo: Many have died because we have no emergency services here. Just because someone doesn't have a pulse doesn't mean they cannot be revived. What a shame.
RIp
That woman could have been saved in US.. Nobody even tried CPR...I weak for Nigerians..Just CPR could revive that woman.
iroanthony: Good day every one I seek admission to study dentistry but I couldn't get I decided to go into Dental technology , but am done with it even done my internship and nysc but due to my love for dentistry I still want to go back to do dental surgery am about picking jamb form this year my choice is unical.i want some one to to guild me on unical even if it requires logistics I can cos I really need BDS one love to dentalites
samuelpeters: The chance is still low which is normal for Medicine. but it is not impossible. You need to smash either her DE post UME or have a good O-level (depending on the one UNICAL uses).
NYSC certificate is not a prerequisite for admission.
NYSC certificate is a prerequisite for DE admission into Medicine atleast in UNIBEN. He should make proper enquires because all this little things matter... I've seen someone whose admission was revoked because of two sitting.
FishLaps: Young Nigerian lady dies after she allegedly fell and hit her head on a hard surface - Pictures
A young Nigerian lady identified as Blessing Nyityo has allegedly died from a head injury she sustained after a fall.
According to her brother, the University of Mkar graduate fondly called Viju, went into coma after she slumped and hit her head somewhere on Easter Sunday, April 4. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died
Benue activist, Ukan Kurugh, who confirmed the sad news on Monday, April 5, said he called her sister after the incident and she assurred her that Blessing will come out of coma.
"The news of your death wrecked my birthday yesterday blessing, haba !!! I spoke to your elder sister and assured her you will come out of the coma but God said come home my daughter. You have been a very strong lady, hardworking and lively. It's difficult to say goodnight. May God console the Nyityo family & friends." he wrote.
She probably died from undiagnosed hemorrhagic stroke..People should always reports trauma involving the head and heart even when subtle.. May her soul rest in peace
Zeeknow3245: Not at all. My issue I have always had is why must a University of Technology leave its full scope of Technology. I don't have a problem if it offers Biomedical Technology, Radiologic Technology, Orthopedic Technology as health related course, I have no problem. Very soon all of them will start offering Dentistry,Medicine, Nursing and then become a conventional University.
If they don't have accredited teaching hospital, they're just joking...NUC can accredit any shit, but MDCN determines whether a medical school is accredited or not.
