A widow from Gwoza, Borno state, narrated how Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau had invaded the town last year declaring himself the “Amir of Gwoza”. Balaraba Aliyu Abacha described to Daily Trust on May 30, Sunday, how the sect had invaded her home in August 2014 and forced the occupants to leave the compound, saying the new “Amir’’ would soon occupy it. They warned Balaraba against returning to the house adding that whoever misbehaved would be taken to Sambisa Forest. READ ALSO: Maiduguri Mosque Attack: Death Toll High The woman said that Shekau and his armed men had stormed their compound with a convoy of at least 50 cars. Shocked Balaraba went to her father’s home, where she fainted and spent four days in a coma. She further narrated how her husband, who later came into the house to see her, was escaping from the militants as they searched for males. “My husband attempted to scale over the fence of the house to safety when he fell and had a fracture on his leg.” Despite attempts to save her spouse’s life, the insurgents shot him dead on August 9, 2014. The fighters also threatened to kill Balaraba’s aged mother when she requested white cloth to cover the bodies of the deceased. Left alone with a 14-year-old daughter and an elderly mother, the woman had to run away from Gwoza, for Madagali, Adamawa state, where they spent four days. In Damaturu, Yobe state, affected by mass kidnappings of females, she suggested going to Kaduna, to her sister’s place. Balaraba disclosed that after Muhammadu Buhari’s victory many displaced people returned to their former camps hoping for infrastructure rebuilding. She lamented that the militants had destroyed most parts of Gwoza town before the troops flushed them out. Meanwhile Boko Haram seems to have posed the first challenge to the new government. The insurgents yesterday attacked Maiduguri through Malari village killing many people. Around 3.30pm of the same day suspected Boko Haram insurgents detonated a bomb in a Maiduguri mosque, reportedly killing from 10 to 26 people. www.naij.com/449955-gwoza-victim-narrates-how-shekau-occupied-her-house.html |

Boko Haram insurgents at midnight yesterday attacked the Maiduguri the capital of Borno state firing numerous rocket propelled grenades (RPG) that hit residential buildings witnesses and security officials told Leadership newspaper. A top security officer at the Department of Security Service (DSS) pleading anonymity told newsmen that “7 persons were killed, 17 injured and about two houses completely destroyed as a result of the RPGs pumped into the town by Boko Haram insurgents”. The thunderous blasts of the RPGs and constant gunshot sounds forced residents of the state capital to abandon their sleep. Meanwhile another anonymous military officer said, Boko Haram terrorists in an attempt to recapture the town also tried another entry into the town, but could not advance further beyond the barricade trenches and sand fortress dug and built around the troubled city. Meanwhile a member of Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Abbas Gava, speaking on the seven people killed said, “My younger sister lives in Dala-Lawant. She and her family came running to my house at Moduganari ward in the night because a heavy explosion had hit the house close to theirs. And when we went back this morning to find out what transpired we met people mourning the death of seven people killed by bullet from a rocket launcher. The building that was hit is rented apartments for tenants; it was badly destroyed”. READ ALSO: Military Apprehends Three Suspected Boko Haram Bomb Makers In Gombe Mari Madu another resident in the state capital whose lives close to the attacked Dala-Lawanti told leadership, “I counted more than 40 heavy explosions coming from rocket launchers before I lost counts. Each time they fired into the town, we would see bright sparkling light, which moved with great speed passing over our houses. One of the blasts shook the roof of my house so badly that I thought it might have landed on my house. Many houses were destroyed in our neighbourhood, but I have not heard of anyone that died” . The attacks forced thousands of residents, mostly members of the youth vigilante, a.k.a Civilian-JTF to take arms to keep watch incase more Boko Haram attacks came. The shooting was reported to have started at about 12:50 am and continued until about 3am when shootings ceased. It could not be confirmed if soldiers had been able to kill the attackers, or only succeeded in repelling the insurgents. Maiduguri is one of the many cities and capitals recaptured from the Boko Haram insurgents following intensive offence in the past three months. Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari said in his inauguration speech that until Boko Haram is defeated the army headquarters will be relocated to Maiduguri from Abuja . www.naij.com/449604-boko-haram-attempts-to-retake-maiduguri-at-midnight.html |

Another 46-year-old trekker, David Adjarho, has arrived Abuja, today, May 27, to promote ‘wrapper marathon’ in Nigeria. Adjarho, speaking to Newsmen on his arrival in Abuja, said the exercise was to promote tourism and attract investment into such a marathon. The trekker according to Vanguard, started his journey in Lagos and completed the 787- kilometer walk on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Speaking on his awareness, the trekker said wrapper marathon was aimed at promoting the use of wrapper in marathons instead of wearing the conventional Jaycees. Adjarho, who wore a 15-yard Ankara material, said he hoped to promote a N500 million fund raiser for five Non-Governmental Organisations in the country. READ ALSO: End Of Trekking? Bauchi Trekker Arrives Abuja Disappointed (PHOTOS) He listed the NGOs as Beach Samaritan; Active 8; Government College, Ughelli old Boys Association; 3-1 equal 2 and the Biggest Food Library in Nigeria. He said another reason for his walk from Lagos to Abuja. was to be a witness to the the inauguration of the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari. The trekker said: “I have been the only man involved in wrapper marathon in the world and if embraced in Nigeria, the competition will attract revenue and investment into the tourism sector. I started this walk on May 6 from the National Stadium, Lagos and here I am now in Abuja on May 27.’’ Though Adjarho’s efforts are not politically motivated, numerous trekkers in Nigeria, since the announcement of Buhari as the president- elect have taken it upon themselves to trek long distances to congratulate him and other victors at the just conclude 2015 general elections. www.naij.com/447750-wrapper-trekker-arrives-abuja.html

A Nigerian student Adebanjo O. Aladetan from the University of Roehampton, London, United Kingdom wrote the open letter to Muhammadu Buhari advising him on first steps as Nigeria’s president. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of Naij.com. It should be noted that former military ruler will be swear-in to the office on May 29, Friday. The president-elect is currently in the UK for private visit. Muhammadu Buhari has become the first Nigerian to defeat a sitting president through the ballot box, putting him in charge of Africa’s most populous nation and its biggest economy. Read the letter below: I wish to personally congratulate you on your success in the Nigerian General Presidential Election of 28 March, 2015. I have aired my views quite a number of times in many journals, stating that Nigeria needs a God- sent political messiah who can place the country where it ought to be in the world stage; a political messiah who can rewrite our political history and change the course of history. General Muhammadu Buhari, when I heard that you have been chosen as the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), I was extremely happy. With the selection of the legal luminary Professor Osinbanjo as your running mate, I became happier and felt that all my wishes had been fulfilled. I knew one day we would be able to see a set of capable and competent hands that would captain the lost Nigerian political ship to safety. READ ALSO: PDP Campaign Against President- elect Your Excellency, the President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari, history has revealed to us the impact of former President of United States of America, Abraham Lincoln. Before signing the declaration to abolish slave trade, the wickedest trade on earth of buying and selling humans, he said, “If my name ever goes into history, it will be for this act of justice”. We also heard about Dr Martin Luther King, Jr., and his prophetic speech “I have a dream”. He waged war against segregation between whites and blacks in the United States of America. His legacy cannot be forgotten in human race and around the world. Nelson Mandela did not support the apartheid regime in South Africa. He worked tirelessly against the racist regime and liberated his people: a legacy that will remain permanently in the minds and hearts of the present generation of South Africa as well as those of generations to come. When Nelson Mandela died, he was buried by the entire globe, and the speeches made by the world’s political leaders presented him as one of the greatest political icons of our generation. We cannot escape history and the impact of the competent war leader of Great Britain, Winston Churchill, in the war against Adolf Hitler between 1944 and 1945, during the Second World War. Churchill has been described as one of the greatest Prime Ministers of Britain, a great orator of our generation. Records revealed that he used his oratory power to change the minds of millions of Britons to enlist in the British army, which waged war against the senseless Second World War that took millions of lives in Europe. He was also the co-founder of the United Nations. We heard about the unforgettable history of Mahatma Gandhi in India, with his legacy of free education. To bring my message home, Chief Obafemi Awolowo was known for free education in Nigeria, a legacy that will remain in indelible in the minds of the Yoruba people and all Nigerians. Your Excellency, Nigerians tested your governance when you were with General Tunde Idiagbon. That regime has been described as the best government in the political history in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. But the men in uniform did not allow Nigeria to get the best out of you and General Tunde Idiagbon. READ ALSO: Tinubu, Amaechi Head To London To Fetch Buhari However, God has given you a second chance to tell the world how you love your fatherland Nigeria; how you were made and what you believe in about good governance in the human race, like someone in the corridor of power that could not be forgotten from generation to generation, like the name of Abraham Lincoln has been magnified in American political history, and the name of Gandhi has been written on a platter of gold in India, and the people of Great Britain will remember the role of Winston Churchill, who stood in the gap for his people with his talented mastering of English language as a great orator of our generation. These political icons were not the only people who came to power in their respective countries. However, when their names lingers on or when the name of a leader sounds like a bell, there are reasons for that in world history. Our hopes are very high in the government Nigerians have chosen you to lead. A country that is too big to fail, the most populous nation of the black race, the richest country in the continent of Africa, home of intellectuals and potentials. We need a courageous leader to unveil the potentialities buried in our people, this is why every individual of our nation voted for you. We need you to reshape both the political and economic history of this dynamic era of our time. We want to tell you that we all love you and you are not corrupt, but please be reminded that the entire lives of Nigerians are in your hands and you are the hope of the masses. I read and studied about the characteristics of God Almighty who is always looking for a man in every generation of mankind. For the Israelites, God used Moses to lead the people to the Promise Land, In the Islamic world, God gave Prophet Mohammed in Medina, God also used Noah to save his generation during the first flood that was recorded in the Bible. READ ALSO: Alison Madueke Reportedly Connected With Buhari Your Excellency, General Muhammadu Buhari, I am of the humble opinion that God Almighty has been looking for you to captain our lost political ship, which has gone astray to safety and that God has ordained you to be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2015. My general advice are as follows: 1. Please relaunch the war against indiscipline, avoid involving corrupt politicians of the old regime at both state and federal levels; instead, make use of potential candidates and intellectuals both at home and abroad. Ministers should be appointed in acting capacity to see the best in them before their appointments are being confirmed. 2. The declaration of assets of the officials who will be working with your government is very necessary. Ministers that owns private jets should be thoroughly investigated. 3. Huge transfers from one bank to another before and after the presidential election should be forwarded to CBN and EFCC for verification. The EFCC should be Strenthened and more powers should be given to the commission. 4. The police force should be reorganised and a capable hand should be looked for to be the inspector general of the police. 5. Please look for capable hands and competent personnel to man the Nigerian port authority. Due to the lack of competent leadership, Nigeria has lost billions to other countries that are able to put their port authorities in order. 6. In terms of the legal system, the problems and the odds of our country are entirely on Nigerian judges, who have held the legal system of our dear fatherland with corrupt and imperfect hands. I, therefore, admit that the problem of our country is our judges, individuals who hold the place of God to pass the right judgment and provide justice to all. 7. Education is the light of the world, and we need competent hands to handle this sector. 8. Agriculture is the backbone of every economy and it plays a crucial role in the generation of employment opportunities. Agriculture not only provides food and raw materials but also provides employment opportunities to a very large proportion of population. 9. Health is another sector that requires improvement. 10. Road maintenance is also very important. 11. The power sector also requires close attention. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Written by Adebanjo O. Aladetan www.naij.com/446826-nigerian-student-in-uk-writes-letter-to-buhari.html |

The horrifying fuel scarcity in the country is gradually turning into a disaster as it is claiming people’s lives. Fuel scarcity On May 24, a twitter user, Tunde Aluko MFR, took to his account to announce the demise of a young woman who bled to death after the child birth. The medical staff in a hospital said that they did not have fuel in their generating sets and vehicles to run around and get blood that could be transfused into her. Men are officialy more stupid then women, according to a 20 year study of the Darwin Awards. The research was published in the British Medical Journal in an article called Darwin Awards: sex differences in idiotic behaviour. A two decade examination of the Darwin Awards – an annual review of cases where people died in exceptionally stupid ways – has found that males make up 90 per cent of the ‘winners’. READ ALSO: Forever Alone? Your DNA To Blame – Scientists Say The research conducted by Newcastle University suggested ‘male idiot theory’, MIT, that is to blame for such high level of ‘stupid’ male deaths. It implies that ‘men are idiots, and idiots do stupid things’. In the 332 cases analysed since 1995, 282 involved men dying easily avoidable deaths, whereas only 36 women died in doing stupid things (14 cases involved both men and women and were therefore discounted). READ ALSO: Stupidity Is a Virus – Study However, the researchers say that men are willing to take such unnecessary risks in pursuit of male social esteem or solely in exchange for ‘bragging rights’ (the rights granted to a person that allow him to boast to a certain extent without dispraise from others.) The construction worker who was demolishing a car park by tearing down its supports as workers watched from their office window, taking bets on what his plan was to remove the final support over a number of days. He didn’t have one – and was crushed by the concrete platform. The thief attempting to purloin a steel cable from a lift shaft – and unbolted it while standing in the lift which then plummeted to the ground, killing him.
