According to experts, what is the nature of this coming change? Probably the most authoritative answer comes from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which drew on the expertise of more than 2,500 climatologists, economists, and risk-analysis specialists from 80 countries. In 1995 report, the IPCC concluded that the earth’s climate is becoming warmer. During the next century, if things continue as they are, it is possible that the temperature could increase by as much as 3.5 degree Celsius. While a few extra degree, may not sound like much worry about, a small temperature change in the world’s climate could be disastrous. The following is what many foresee for the coming century. 1. Regional Extremes in Weather: in some areas, droughts could become longer, while in others, rainfall could become heavier. Storms and floods could become more severe, hurricanes, more damaging. Though millions already die as a result of floods and famine, global warming could make death toll much higher. 2. Increased Risk to Health: Heat related illness and death could soar. According to the world health organization, global warming could also extend the range of insects bearing tropical diseases, such as malaria and dengue. In addition, reduced freshwater supplies because of changes in regional rainfall and snow fall could cause an increase in some waterborne and food-borne disease and parasites. 3. Natural Habitats Threatened: Forests and wetlands, which filter our air and water, could be put at risk by warmer temperatures and changes in rainfall. Forest fires could be more frequent and more intense. 4. Rising Sea Levels: Those living in low coastal areas would have to move unless costly projects were undertaken to hold back the sea. Some islands would be completely submerged. 5. Chaotic Weather: In a variety of ways, most of us rely on carbon-based fuels. We drive cars and other vehicles powered by gasoline or diesel fuels. We use electricity generated by power plants that consume coal, natural gas, or oil. We burn wood, charcoal, natural gas, and coal to cook or keep warm. All these activities add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. This gas traps heat from sun. We also add heat trapping greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. Nitrous oxide is added from Nitrogen fertilizers used in Agriculture. Methane is emitted by rice paddies and cattle feedlots. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) result from the manufacture of plastic foams and from other industrial processes. CFCs not only trap heat but also destroy earth’s Stratospheric Ozone Layer. With the exception of CFCs, which are now regulated, these heat-trapping gases are being emitted into the atmosphere at ever increasing rates. This is due to the growing of energy use, industrial activity, and Agriculture. According to the Washington-based Environmental Protection Agency, humans presently spew six billion tonnes of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere each year. Scientists are generally quite confident about two things. First, in recent decades and centuries, the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere have increased. Second, over the last hundred years, the average surface temperature of the earth has also increased. God Bless Nairaland God bless the Earth. Physics Sweet

Just last week explorer opened a thread on the current heat in the atmosphere. This thread intends to say more and expatiate on weather issues. So relax and Enjoy. WEATHER: Weather can be defined as the "snapshot" of the atmosphere at any given time The ingredients that make up weather and which are essential to sustain life on earth are: -Heat from the sun -The atmosphere -Moisture. Weather only occurs in troposphere, the layer of air about 10-15km thick above the surface of the earth. The driving force behind our weather is the general circulation of the atmosphere caused by unequal heating of the earth’s surface. The sun drives the system. The basic principle is that warm air rises and cool air falls. This principles applies on a global scale. Energy from the sun causes uneven heating of land and sea surfaces near the equator and evaporation from topical oceans. The heated air rises to the top of the troposphere and moves slowly away from the equator on the way it gradually loses heat and starts to sink back towards the earth’s surface. The differences in air temperature and pressure over the world cause wind. The air at the equator is much warmer than at the poles. Nigeria lies close to the equator. Warm air expands and rises creating an area of low pressure, cold air is dense and sinks, creating an area of high pressure. But because the earth I spinning on its axis, the wind pattern becomes more complex. The circulation of these winds and the passage of high and low-pressure cells have major influence on climate. Therefore weather is the result of the coming together of different masses of air which have different temperatures, pressure and contain different amount of water. Someone once quipped: “Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.” Indeed, it has always seemed that the weather is beyond our power to change in any way. Increasingly, however, many scientists no longer believe that. They say that the spewing of carbon dioxide and other gases into the atmosphere is bringing climate. Keep following Lalasticlala, Did you know about this? Do the needful.

let me quickly add to PCMs coming to Enugu. I live and stay in Enugu. I currently stay in Agbani Rd, Enugu town. indeed Enugu is a nice place to be. it is cool, stress free, and cheap transportation. Nevertheless, you must know that they is nothing in Enugu, save from secondary schools, there are relatively few and rare industry or good place of PPA in Enugu. Infact, all you need to do in Enugu is just enjoy your state allawee, there are nothing that could bring extra cash to you here in Enugu. The only good place to serve in Enugu is the town, when sent to other local governments please just respect yourself and save. Having spent most of my life in Enugu, I can tell you few things you can do to make extra cash in Enugu. 1. Photographer: If you have a camera, please take t along with you to the camp, buy that small machine used to print passport, they are many persons that will need passport in camp. Also, many persons will also need pictures in camp and even during in your PPA. You can make 100k with this in Enugu. 2. Graphic design: if you can design with corel draw, Photoshop or any graphics software, then Enugu can be a good place to make money. 3. Beer parlor: Yes, it may interest you to know that in every street here in Enugu, you will find atleast three beer parlor. If you have money to start this business, I assure you, you will hit it real good in Enugu. let me stop here. Welcome to 042. They are many ladies here. Just keep your money and have them as many as you want, just remember to use condom, better still, abstinence is the best option. 4. Betting Shop: it crystal clear how betting has grown and many persons are benefiting from this company. Any PCM who wish to make cool money should try to open a betting shop and i assure you, after your service, you will not want to go. Enugu is a nice place to enjoy your money if you have got it. FBLJ:Sorry, I beg to differ with the point that university graduates are shallow minded. The reason you supervise them maybe because you have more experience in the firm than they do. When you wish to further your education, you will have more reasons to believe. you may have a good work, yes, am very happy for you sir, the point here is not having good work because they are many university graduates in a good workplace that you only dream to . what we are saying is, the quality of education dished out in both school of higher learning. I recommend you read the criterions by which schools is been graded in reference to another. |
tosyne2much:Nice one sir. During the last convocation ceremony of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, a convocation debate was organised with the topic: UNIVERSITY EDUCATION SHOULD BE RESEARCH ORIENTED THAN SKILL BASED. After every argument, it was justified with reasons that University education should be research oriented. Mr tosyne2much, What actually is practical is not skills, it is research. if you tell me that poly does more research (practical ) than university, sir I will disagree with you. I have been privileged to teach these polytechnic students, sir, all they do is buy handouts and pass. Understanding what is been taught isn't they. In my school, UNN (Physics and Astronomy ), We do not say that your name is tosyne2much, rather we know, with reasons it is so. that is comprehension. |
teawhy2788:You are talking about few among many. in physics, EXPECTATION VALUE must be taken from large number of people. We are talking about an average view. University students are far better than you. It's not comparable. How many PHD lecturers taught you? what about professors and MSC. As a HND holder, you will never lecture even first years in the university even if you get your MSC and PhD, please make your enquiries. |
anochuko01:Exactly sir. |
I actually do not understand this issue of practicals and theories. The Certificate under consideration is not comparable, and as such need no argument. No sane university graduate will have time to argue this rubbish, you will always see the HND graduate coming to prove themselves which doesn't make them equal to degree. I don't have time and as such let me read and laugh at HND students. The truth remains that degree is better than HND. HND students does no practical than degree students. Not at all. I have friends in HND and I can tell you that degree is far better than HND. When I was in second year, I went to two polytechnics(names withheld) to educate them and I was shocked that ND II and HND I students could not say the reasons why what they believe is valid. All I see are students who go to assemble things and say they do practicals. |
Nice one Vivian. Nysc should actually be a year of planning, savings and personal organisation. Any plan one fails to make during NYSC will definitely affect the person. |
NgeneUkwenu:Haahahaha, Maria de club. seems you know her |
we made the best choice. We need PDP to go. |
sambisa news indeed |
Rubbish, His reason Rubbish. He us never interested in their education. it was just a mirage campaign promise used by PDP. Wike is only interested in deceiving Rivers people. what is RSUT, are there no better Universities in Nigeria? Do you know the rigorous process that led to their selection? Infact Rubbish |
When it all started, I knew it was done my the enemies of our development, it was done by those who wish to prove to Nigerians how APC is the same with PDP. but God pass them. We shall overcome and we must bring lasting CHANGE to Nigerians, we have promised to fulfill our campaign promises. Ride on PMB. Ride on the Best president so far |
PDPs way of deceiving the masses with a shadow of campaign promises. |
He will never even know that the Change is here. paid Wailers |
Rubbish, I would rather use the time to pray for PMB and the unity of Nigeria. Your source though . |
Engr.Dave Umahi is working. #buyEbonyirice and #savenaija |

drjoshua2000:Oga, go and make your enquiries, Ebonyi state isn't lacking medical doctors. Anytime they seem to lack medical doctors and choose to employ the expert medical corpers, then we can pay them 1m per month. Do you think you are talking to someone who do not have medical doctors at home? what do you take doctors or medical corpers to be? I don't have such time. in conclusion, we have taken such decision to DISREGARD medical corpers, so you guys should go and diE. |
TCD:From your words, one can decipher that you don't know the exact reason you went for your course of study. I can see the reason you and your colleagues will always be on strike. Poverty leads to frustration, thus, you are already frustrated. Go and serve in your state. your type should have a long leg, so work it and serve in your state, and if you can't, then please remain silent. |
please send to me
njokuchuks4u@gmail.com |
TCD:we are very happy for your decision, We don't want your type. Poor stricken medical corper. Ebonyi state have never complained to you that we lack medical personnel. My uncle who did his Housemanship in Ebonyi state never complained of been ill treated. therefore, I urge u to redeploy yourself to your state or come to Enugu since you think its better for medical corpers. In Ebonyi State, corpers are treated with respect, well paid and they enjoy their service year. finally, I won't ask you to go to hell rather, I am thanking God because we won't see your type who can kill patients for money. |

as i speak i still wish i went to a University even though i am happy in my job. I am valued because here they care about delivery ( men everyone here knows i am good) than qualifications, and I even supervise and coach university graduates because many of them are so shallow in their knowledge.
