Seems we missed out on Varane to Real Madrid. No real disappointment, it just seems missing out on some major targets will start to get abit worrying. Especially as there's no movement in midfield our main problem position.

The best 2 teams in La liga are obviously better than everywhere else but Im not convinced about the quality of the rest of the teams in laliga compared to the equivalents in the premier league.

It seems Modric wants to go to Chelsea. Which is a huge shame for us as I thought he was the right midfielder for us. It seems staying in London was a huge factor which is why the 2 manchester clubs didnt bid for him.

Do not feed the troll.

Anyways have you lot seen our opening fixtures? Kai, West Brom away, Spurs home, Arsenal home, bolton away, chelsea @home all in the first few games.

Must hit the ground running in this one, cant really afford much of a slow start, although naturally we will make things harder for ourselves than we need to. Its the man utd way. cheesy

I wonder why people think Owen's signing signals the end of Welbeck's United  career.
Like you rightly pointed out,Owen has injury issues as well as confidence ones, and I did not believe for one day he would be the focal point of any United offense.
Welbeck is the future of United's attack. He just needs consistent run of games for United. To me sending him out on loan is regressing his career. He needs to be blooded in the United shirt and put in the mix as quickly as possible
That's really not the best thing for him at this stage of his career where he needs to play regularly. He wont play regularly at united since Rooney,Hernandez and Berbatov will be ahead of him at the very least. He needs another season of playing regularly atleast it whensomeone like Berbatov or even Owen makes space for him. It just wont aid his development right now to be sitting on the bench and play 9/10 games a season. its better and easier for Owen to play that role because he cant improve at this stage anymore and he's a very experience player so can still have his moments.

At d present moment? Yes I think he is. When SAF said he would definitely be coming back, I thought that meant Owen would be leaving. But know that Owen has had his contract extended and SAF has promised to give even more playing time next season, I don't see how Welbeck will get d number of games he deserves. I really don't get why we renewed Owens contract. He is just blocking d progress of our other youngsters.
I agree with this 100%Welbeck wont get the game time his development needs at this stage, its best he goest out on loan to a team that'll give him alot of game time. At the end of next season, one of either Berbatov/Owen will make space for him.

There are no real guarantees when you sign a player. The player might have looked incredible at previous clubs like Veron etc not it just doesnt happen for them at the new club. There are also some that had not looked like a player that would raise their game to that required standard. for me I had seen Smalling play quite a few times before when he was at Fulham and I was pretty shocked about us signing him ahead of Hangeland. He just looked very ordinary. But with better players and at a world class club he seems to be rising to the challenge and I have no problems with him filling in for Rio no matter the game. Im not happy with thee young signing personally but I always have to trust Baba that he knows what he's doing.

Also, RE: Modric, Sneijer. I do not believe sneijer would be a good fit for us, he doesnt really play as a midfielder he's more the attacker that plays behind the striker but dictates play from there and for me that is too similar to Rooney in his deep lying striker position. It could work maybe but I really thing we have enough strikers/forwards/wingers and what we relaly need is a top central midfielder. I would definitely prefer we go for Luka Modric and he is a real central midfielder who would give us the required balance, passing, guile and can carry the ball forward from midfield as well as anyone around, unfortunately he would cost over £30M as he has a long contract and spurs dont want to sell.

The Nasri rumours wont go away but Im pretty sure he's just using us to improve his wages at Arsenal. Having said that he is also another player would I wouldnt be adverse to us signing and he also wouldnt cost more than £20M(maybe even much less). Admittedly he would probably play in a more sneijer role for us but he is an option wide ( I know we have lots of wide players now!) and he's younger than Sneijer and we know how he'll cope in the premier league( atleast for 6 months wink )

Na wa for Baba Giggs oh, What an utterly disgusting thing to do. I know its not football related but I have to admit it was tainted my view of him. Its all well banging random girls but your own brother's wife is something I cannot even begin to imagine. Pretty disgusting.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: In Fergie We Trust! by MrTA(m): 9:10am On Jun 06, 2011
Rumours that we are signing Ashley young are growing stronger and stronger. Frankly, I'm quite disappointed as I think we could do alot better than young and £18M + is way too much for him. Im still more interested on who the new midfield signing will be but either way. Good to see.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: In Fergie We Trust! by MrTA(m): 3:07pm On Jun 04, 2011
I dont know how you can say experience is overrated when we have had so many clear and in your face examples as to the value to experience. We pretty much won the league on experience. Football is not all gragra youthful high energy. For all Fletcher and Anderson's energy, all their gragra would have been ripped up by Xavi and Iniesta.

Of course there has to be a balance as Im not talking about players who's legs are clearly gone. unlike like Giggs. But the bottom line is he wasnt playing the role of a midfielder who will harry players and charge all over the pitch.

Also, you realise Neville didnt even play 5 games for us this season right? Its pretty obvious you're going overboard about Baba's loyalty to cecrtain players when his history has shown when he needs to get rid of players no matter watch loyalty doesnt come into. Also Scholes came on for Carrick because he had a knock.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: In Fergie We Trust! by MrTA(m): 2:30pm On Jun 04, 2011
Without a doubt we can do better, Also though dont forgot the value of experience as you can tell baba places alot of value in that. So i think that might explain his preference of the older players like Giggs etc, just saying,
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: In Fergie We Trust! by MrTA(m): 2:10pm On Jun 04, 2011
Its amazing how people can deduce completely different things from looking at the same scenario. We arent going to agree on this ( although, I agree with your part about CQ) Ive always felt baba needs a good strong number two and not the slaphead yes man in shortnika sitting next to him. grin

I still disagree with the main points of your post and I look forward to Baba continuously proving the doubters wrong like he always has.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: In Fergie We Trust! by MrTA(m): 1:08pm On Jun 04, 2011
We'll have to disagree there. Giggs isnt holding anyone back, Anderson,Fletcher are good players but Anderson simply isnt progressing and injuries havent been helping, its one step forward one step backward with him and considering what is at stake the club cannot wait while he gets his act together. Fletcher, even before the injury, his form was very ropey. Giggs was putting in better performances so he had to be in the team.

Come on now, be realistic, how does any professional tell the boss they are not up to a particular match? it was the formation amongst other things that let us down. we needed 3 in the middle not 2, even with Park tucking in, it was never ever going to be enough.

Giggs doesnt have to retire for SAF to bring in new faces, he's never held on to older players before when he could have brought in new or younger player. In fact he's best the very best at knowing the right time to let players go. Even with VDS, he was reconsidering staying on, Baba told him to go with his original plan because when age kicks in, the drop in performance can be quite marked. So I think you're completely wrong saying we wont see new faces unless Giggs retires.

Giggs still has alot to offer this team.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: In Fergie We Trust! by MrTA(m): 12:42pm On Jun 04, 2011
Im not with you on the Giggs bashing at all. He's had a very good season, He might not have been good enough against Barcelona but no one was. For his to change his game from out and out flying winger to attacking midfielder says alot about the man's talents. I admit I would have preferred he retire this summer but if he feels he's still up to it I wouldnt mind him being in the squad. Another example is the west ham game when Evra got subbed nad then Giggs went to left back and even in the closing stages of the game this guy was still bombing up and down the left side.

Its not his fault that Barcelona over ran them, midfield was always our weakest area and that was Barca's strongest. It was Baba would messed up playing that, if anything it should have been Rooney upfront on his own and Giggs behind him but I admit hindsight is always a beautiful thing,

It all boils down to one thing this summer, With Hargreaveas and Scholes out, and Giggs aging, We need to get to top midfielders for the squad.

Also, Carrick stays!
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: In Fergie We Trust! by MrTA(m): 7:24pm On Jun 03, 2011
We're OK, for strikers even if Berbatov stays which looks likely.

Welbeck and Macheda would be best served getting first team development elsewhere. Sitting on the bench wont help them at this stage of their career. Sitting on the bench just in case is what Owen is there for.

Defence should be ok although Im hearing Brown has been sent packing by Baba. So hopefully someone gets promoted from the reserves.

Midfield is the pressing concern. and maybe/hopefully a winger. Any 2 of Modric/Hazard/Alexis Sanchez (no chance)/Fellaini (i like him alot) etc would be great.

This is still assuming De Gea is our new keeper although its all gone quiet on that front.
