Yeah. And this is not a Maguire bashing attempt, just sometime that i noticed that has been frustrating at times. And the guy is not as good on the ball as we were led to believe sef. Although compared to Smalling who he replaced he is Franz Beckenbauer.

I watched Roma's last match and I saw Smalling on the ball a few times and got a stark reminder of him on the baller. Overall he's a good enough defender but on the ball, its really quite shocking how he remained at old trafford for so long.

Didn’t position himself well to receive the ball and steady the ship. Needs to read the game better, etc.

I'm actually not disputing anything you said. You're mostly right if a little harsh. I just think the combative approach is his nature so he cannot be a good like for like change for Matic.

It becomes a problem when you’re close to an opponent and the odds of being dispossessed is high. You don’t have to follow the ball around to recycle possession. Didn’t you see how Matic dictated play?

They are not at all the same type of midfielder so its unfair to expect him to play like Matic. Fred is more combative in his style and approach. Asking him to play any other way would not bring the best out of him.

Arsenal are in good form now they should hopefully beat Leicester for us.

I would still show them the required respect and play the strongest lineup possible.

Edit: But on another thought, our second string players should be able to beat this Bournemouth team at home especially with their abysmal form. As Ole cited some few knocks in the first team, this might also be a good opportunity for rotation and give some players like Matic and maybe Shaw some rest.
