agaugust: Fact is, NO PROOF that they are SOUTH AFRICAN MERCENARIES, but surely those men in the convoy are foreigners, could be Russian, Belorussian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Israeli, etc working as technical trainers for our new equipment and weapons.
Nigerian government has said NO MERCENARY is fighting for Nigeria and I will take that as final authority. Yes, president GEJ said we have technical training teams from PMCs, so how do they move from their hotel room to training locations, by riding Keke Marwa or riding on Donkeys?
They are our visitors on contract duty and the best way to protect them is by giving them MRAPs to drive themselves and GPMG to protect themselves, Boko suicide bombers may want to harm them in town. We don’t have surplus troops to waste escorting them, so let them be armed to protect themselves. Seems like common sense in my opinion.
We have to use PMC training at home in Nigeria, no time to send soldiers and pilots overseas by withdrawing them from battlefield for overseas training. We are already at war. Weapons suppliers are supposed to provide training to the buyer, so nothing wrong in these things we see, it happens in America and Europe.
What I wonder is whether every white-man in this world is a South African, so why do people think those MRAPs men are South Africans? REVA MRAP is all over the world, and Nigeria could buy them and give to Russian PMC staff to drive around town on duty to our training and skills transfer locations.
We have a confirmed South African mechanic killed here by accident, why not? We bought South African vehicles and so we need South African mechanics for now until maintenance skills are transferred to us Nigerians.
Mechanic is NOT = Mercenary.
One works with spanner/screws, the other works with weapons/ammunition.
How do South African mercenary pilots qualify to fly modern NAF combat helicopters? How much flight hours do those mercenary ‘pilots’ clock in a year? Is it cheap to graduate and maintain combat qualified pilots?
Some people don’t even use their heads, do they know that South African bush war in Angola ended over 20 years ago? Those SADF special forces are old now ! Many of them are now aged about 45 to 65 years. Is that the age for field combat and running around in deserts, on hills, rocks, and forests? Human heart and lungs does not grow weak with age? Some people forgot their Biology.
Anybody who thinks 100 SADF old men mercenaries are fighting 10,000 Boko Haram terrorists on a land mass the size of Great Britain, should go and ask Seleka rebels why about 300 well armed South African army elite paratroopers and special forces combined ran at Usain Bolt Olympic speed from Bangui city to Bangui airport in record time, they left their Mortar carrier Gecko vehicles behind and forgot their uniforms in the base, French army at the Central African Republic airport was their saviour from the hands of just about 1,500 Seleka rebels.
Over 30,000 Nigerian troops are fighting Boko Haram and winning the war. Until there is 100% infallible proof of a fighting mercenary in Nigeria today, I take the president’s word and that of the Nigerian military officers as final and mercenaries remain mere phantoms….ghosts.
Mercenaries? NO! Just mere technical advisers on new weapons purchased

Posted by PRNigeria">PRNigeria on March 13, 2015
Senior military commanders have described stories in major international media and culled by local newspapers reporting that Nigeria is deploying hundreds of mercenaries against Boko Haram terrorists as a joke taken too far. The officers insisted that the foreigners are technical advisers that are providing trainings and instructions on the use of new armaments recently procured by the Nigerian military in the war on terror. Some top commanders who spoke with PRNigeria without wanting their identities disclosed insist that it is part of propaganda to paint Nigerian military as incompetent to deal with the insurgency by desperately ascribing recent spate of successes to ‘others’ rather than the gallant troops’ efforts.
The source recalled that only recently, some news agencies ascribed such successes to Cameroonian, Nigerien and “battle hardened” Chadian forces but when it became obvious that the forces of those countries were mainly fighting along their own border areas blocking free movement of terrorists, “it became necessary to look for others” who are helping Nigerians to fight. PRNigeria gathered that the foreigners spotted in Maiduguri and other areas close to the theatre of wars are technical partners who are helping to train Nigerian forces on how to operate and maintain the recently acquired equipment which came from different sources.
The source further cited the particular example of the maintenance technician, who died recently insisting that he was not even a combatant but a professional in fixing armour vehicles. President Goodluck Jonathan was recently quoted in an interview with Voice of America (VOA) confirming that Nigeria has some trainers helping to get troops well acquainted with the recently acquired weaponry.
According to Jonathan, “we now have this technical people who are trainers and technicians, who are to train our people on how to use them, and technicians that help the maintenance, at the same time training our people how to maintain this equipment,” adding that two companies were involved in the training. The source recalled with regrets, the several years that Nigeria wasted while negotiating and appealing for equipment supply from the Western allies which were not only rebuffed but prevented other countries under their direct influence from selling to Nigeria.
“The fact that we have foreign experts outside the United States helping to train our troops is not a secret but it is not fair for them to embark on this blackmail simply because we got assistance from other places when they turned us down at a critical period”, the source stated. When contacted on the story that mercenaries are fighting the battle for Nigeria, the Director Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said “Sorry, I don’t have anything about that claim. I just know that Nigerian military and security forces are putting in all their resources, training and experience acquired over the years to address the security challenges.
“Our neighbours operating under the auspices of the Multinational Joint Task Force are also backing our efforts from all our borders with them. We also have some offer of training and intelligence assistance from foreign countries. Some of these arrangements even predate the present operations.”

agaugust: Arms embargo on South Africa was NOT 30 years long you fraud !
During the UN embargo, Israel was smuggling weapons to South Africa including missile and nuclear technology. France sold it's latest version of Mirage F-1 jet fighters to South Africa just before the arms embargo.
South Africa was also buying weapon and ammunition from international black market and arms smugglers.
Finally you could not win the war, and the war was NOT a threat to South Africa, it was fought thousands of kilometers away from Cape Town, in a far country called Angola, and you have no common border with the enemy . SA never procured arms throughout its war in Angola which took over 25 years. Israel had never loaded ship with weapons and sailed it to SA, but Russia did on constant bases supplying arms to Angola. That was a record that no country in Africa can achieve. |

Vikkie14: This thread is a counter to allegations in some quarters/media reports https://www.nairaland.com/2182090/photos-south-african-troops-maiduguri/1#31362042 over "South Africa" Mercenaries Fighting alongside the Nigerian Army in Borno which went viral last week. . . Last week, Nigerian opposition knuckleheads, ever so eager to discredit, floated photographs of what were supposedly South African mercenaries riding in REVA MRAPs. While the controversy raged on in Nigerian cyberspace, a respected aficionado of South African extraction went to town on his own volition and after exhaustive enquiries, wrote to confirm the fact that the contentious photograph was "photoshopped". The photos were certainly not shot in Nigeria. So take those photographs circulating in cyberspace to be another bad example of how far the desperadoes in Nigeria’s political opposition will go to discredit the military and the FG which controls it. They should be ashamed of themselves.
READ these excerpts(from a South African).
For what it’s worth, those pics were taken in Guinea Equatorial: 1) The rear view of Vehicle 2C shows an Equatorial Guinea flag and the signpost is in Spanish; 2) The Oando filling station reference of your correspondents doesn’t hold up – the company operates throughout West Africa; and 3) More important, that’s the MKIII version, which Equatorial Guinea acquired in 2013. In the days ahead, we shall begin to see them in the field. Also, Look at the flag at the right edge of the picture in question, then compare to the flag below. Your white NATO masters were fooling you South Africans in that sea war game, allowing you to 'sink' NATO warships, they NEVER showed you their real warships, the day your navy meets a real NATO warship in battle, is the day you will understand why the white man successfully colonized South Africa up till 1994. Soweto Mumus . Agaugau, SA is a champ when it comes to military technology. We are respected by the world when it comes to that area. The only small country in the world that could sustain 30 years of war without procuring a single weapons to fight three countries which were constantly provided with Russian weapons. We build weapons locally and still effectively engaged the enemy. It is by no surprised that we mysteriously sank the NATO ship, through the tactical shrewdness of the skilled SA naval officers. Today we procure weapons and dismantle them with the view of adding some modifications. SA procured missiles have different specifications from that of the original versions sold by manufactures. We merely give our procured munitions some extra energy and range to have better performance. |

ALJAZEERA SPEAKS TO JONATHAN. ( VIDEO) sources have told Al Jazeera that mercenaries from South Africa and other countries are actually playing a decisive fighting role on the frontlines. A senior Nigerian non-commissioned officer, who is on active duty and was wounded by Boko Haram, said foreign mercenaries are doing the bulk of the fighting in towns the Nigerian military says it has recaptured from Boko Haram. The officer said that the Nigerian military still suffers from a lack of equipment and low morale, and that without the mercenaries' help, these towns would still be held by Boko Haram fighters.http://www.aljazeera.com/news/africa/2015/03/nigeria-foreign-mercenaries-boko-haram-150313122039403.html |

rka1: Nigerian Military Trained By Technical Advisers Clement Ejiofor, 3 hours ago
Email050 Senior military commanders have dispelled recent media rumours that Nigeria is deploying hundreds of mercenaries against Boko Haram terrorists, describing the information as a joke taken too far.
According to the officers, the foreigners are technical advisers that are providing trainings and instructions on the use of new armaments recently procured by the Nigerian military in the war against insurgents.
Speaking with PRNigeria, some top commanders insisted that it is part of propaganda to paint Nigerian Army as incompetent to deal with the insurgency by desperately ascribing recent spate of successes to ‘others’ rather than the gallant troops’ efforts.
The anonymous source also recalled that recently some news agencies ascribed such successes to Cameroonian, Nigerien and Chadian forces while it was obvious that the forces of those countries were mainly fighting along their own border blocking free movement of terrorists.
The source further cited the particular example of the maintenance technician, who died recently, stressing that he was not even a combatant but a professional in fixing armour vehicles.
President Goodluck Jonathan in his interview with Voice of America confirmed that Nigeria has some trainers helping to get troops well acquainted with the recently acquired weapons.
“We now have this technical people who are trainers and technicians, who are to train our people on how to use them, and technicians that help the maintenance, at the same time training our people how to maintain this equipment,” the president said. The source added with regrets, that Nigeria wasted several years while negotiating and appealing for equipment supply from the Western allies which were not only rebuffed but prevented other countries from selling to Nigeria.it http://www.naij.com/402290-nigerian-military-trained-by-technical-advisers.html I don't know if I should cry with you or what, but, everything will be fine. Don't worry we won't raise this issue of mercenaries again because I can see that you are trying by all means to twist it but it just don't work. Mercenaries are called with whole number of names, some call them contractors, while some call them mechanics, some even go as far as branding them technicians, etc. What I like is because these people they know well that it is crime to use mercenaries in any war since it violate international law. They will try by all means to protect themselves. Shame!! |

lezz: then we live in Nigeria and know the truth about the insurgency.A had trained many black doctors ever since 1994 and way before that. There are as well thousands who have been studying medicine abroad . So thousands of southafrica study abroad too? What's happening with your top notch school system? Nigerian doctors are basically only few in SA and the rest are black house doctors year black South African doctors . You claimed in one of your last posts that why Nigerian doctors dominate your public health institution is because SA doctors are agitating for better welfare. Now you are eating your words and saying the exact opposite. SA has many black doctors dummy. SA Black doctors are now more than triple the number of white doctors. you still haven't denied the fact that there are no black southafrican doctors in their thousands as expatriates.
I repeat, southafrica does not have enough black doctors, pilots and naval personnel that are qualified. Your statement is full of untruths. As regard your insinuation concerning the number of black pilot, yes it is true, but the number of black pilots in private airlines is starting to build up. Concerning Naval personnel, large majority of our navy is black from Admirals to seaman. Do you think that the ANC is an ornament that decorate the room for nothing? However, with the number of black doctors, you are wrong at every corner. Remember, during the yesteryears of apartheid, SA had a policy of segregation that saw blacks having their own homelands which are equivalent of states in Nigeria. Some of these homelands were Bophuthatswana, Trankei, KwaZulu, Venda, Lebowakgomo, Qwaqwa, Ciskei, etc. These homelands used to have universities of their own managed by blacks. We used to have our own black doctors in these homelands. Now the number of black doctors has since even tripled the number of white doctors long ago in democracy and is now even now sky rocketing. Medicine is not a rocket science dummy. Let us not derail the thread please!!! Back to military discourse. #BackToMilitaryDiscourse. |
