Webmasters › Re: Post All Your Wordpress Issues Here (strictly Wordpress) by MsBella: 8:34am On Sep 24, 2015 |
Hello Kombo. I would like to share a challenge I have with setting up a theme for my Wordpress blog. I tried for hours to customize my Wordpress blog with a theme I downloaded from aThemes.com. It seems Wordpress removed the "Add new" widget on their site. Is this because I am using a free plan or is there a way around it? I need your help guys. I was really frustrated last night. Please help a JJC like me... cry
However, the theme is listed on Wordpress.org and not I also tried going through my wp admin and I got no headway. |

I checked out your blog and to be totally honest with you, it seems cluttered and some images seem overly cropped (the Whatsapp image etc) I guess the arrangement has to be reconstructed. Simplicity and effective use of space will go a long way. Nice stories by the way. |

Nice tutorials with simple instructions. I will get my material next week. I wish I can attend the training in Lagos. But I am in Abuja. The thread is still useful, there is no need to close it. There are several threads on Nairaland serving the same purpose but the methods and instructions are different. Thanks to the originator of this thread. |

He should order it online and have it sent to your address. This way you can bring it when you come to Nigeria. Use your money for education. |

francawilson: My advice to ppl is: Alexpress is not that cheap cos a seller told me that Aliexpress collects their own percentage on any sales made on their site so for that reason, they hike price of things. Things are even cheaper somehow in Naija plus d 3weeks + long wait and d 500 naira u pay 2collect the rubbish they send.
I remember a wig i bought for 4k on aliexpress. I saw that same wig at Wuse market and it was sold for 2500.
And even d wristwatch that's giving me all these headache. It was even cheaper in Nigeria.
So b4 u go buying things u hope 2sell in Nigeria. Do ur market survey in Naija 1st and know if its cheaper in Nigerian markets or not.
A university student told me she goes to Ghana to buy footwears at a cheaper rate and sells as well as supplies to resellers&she's using it to live big in school.
She said she buys flat shoes for 1k + and sells for 2k + and also buys silpas for 700-900 naira (depending) and sells for 1500 +. Where wil u eva find flat shoe for 2k on aliexpress? So those of u looking 4cheap things to sell and make profit; y not try Ghana.
Btw,i wonder how come Ghana market is cheaper than Naija markt. Is it because of theie cedis or what? i knw their currency is now stronger than our naira now. Hmmmm I feel your annoyance. We can rely on reviews and feedbacks. But what happens when a seller wayo-ishly sends you something different from what is in the picture... It can get risky. Exploring the ghanian market would also need research and an experienced person. When I was in NYSC camp a corper brought alot of beautiful acceserories, she said she got them from Ghana. I will look into it and see how it works out. |

TheWisest: Now Bella (hope that s your real name), I ve personally researched online about your competitors. Your USP is a marketing tool to make you stand out. I have successfully helped 3 small-scale companies launch their brands. I m interested in working with you further on this blog if you will be committed to achieving this goal this year of starting a fitness blog. Let s move onto to the next step in making this project work. Do I keep laying down my suggested ideas here or would personal correspondence be better? Strategy designs shouldnt be public. What if you re copied? I dont do Whatsapp, but Facebook is ok. I am committed to launching my blog this year. This whole idea about blogging is something I have had in mind for a long time. And this is because I have seen other bloggers (few of them) reach their weight loss goals. There is a level of satisfation and confidence that comes from overcoming a major hurdle in life; that is what I need right now. For the benefit of others who maybe learning a thing or two here, I would have said we should continue the discussion here. Since "strategy designs" should not be made public, I would prefer personal correspondence as it concerns my blog and anyone with questions can always ask as I have done here. I will send you a PM. Thank you. |

TheWisest: I love that you re up-to-date on your market research. Pardon my many questions. Just trying to help out. Now why I asked that earlier question is that you have to find a way to differenting your blog from theirs, your Unique Selling Point. Have you found this differentiating factor? I have no problems with the questions! I am learning too. To be honest, I have not found that "unique selling point" but I have plans on integrating some features that would make user experience worthwhile. I have some other ideas which I can.not write down here. But having a unique selling point is what I do not have at the moment. |

TheWisest: Good... Please start noting down these things coz what we re doing now is designing your blog strategically so that you ll be more conscious of what you re doing. Next, let me ask, are there other nigerian weight loss blogs? Yes, there are other Nigerian blogs, but only few are consistent. Out of the few that are consistent, one is a forum just like Nairaland and the other two are regular blogs. |

Wittylens: For starters , you can install wordfence , jetpack , broken link checker , seo by yoast , mobilepress(for mobile view).
If you're using adsense , you have no control over what ads you see on your blog. Google displays ads based on keywords. So if your niche is on fitness , the ads you're most likely to see will be on fitness ; although konga / jumia ads may show sometimes.
No. No restrictions whatsoever. Thank you!! |

TheWisest: Good! You know your MISSION. Now what's your vision, what do you see for your blog in the future, something tangible? - to have 1million subscribers in 3 to 5 years, to become incorporated as a company? Etc My vision: 1. To have a business that transends from my blog. A fitness centre, different from the norm. 2. To have atleast 1 million suscribers within 2 - 3 years of blogging. 3. Hit some major endorsements etc |

Brandnew2: Just have fun with it. Don't focus too much about making money for a start. Opportunities will come knocking in due time.
So what are the other things stopping you? I am trying to make a decision on my exercise regimen like whether I should sign up for bootcamp or just go ahead and get an exercise dvd. Either of the two options have advantages and disadvantages. I will sort this out when I have properly weighed my options. In the long run, the financial aspect of blogging will matter. For now, I am concerned with starting properly. |
Fashion › Re: How To Start A Fashion Blog. by MsBella: 6:47am On Apr 08, 2015 |
Wittylens: 1) yes , based on experience its more adviseable to use a custom domain for starters.
2) there are different reasons for that. It could be that the site is not properly optimised for mobile viewing.
3) you can sell e-books. If you're a good marketer you will make insane profit.
Yes! You made the right choice. Wordpress is the best CMS On earth. You will enjoy every moment with wp. As for hosting i can vouch for hostgator.
Need more help , support with getting started? I'm just a quote away. Thank you for your opinion and support. I will be sure to quote you as time goes on. However, what add-ons/plug-ins do you think I should have on my blog? I have visited some Nigerian weight loss blogs and I was delighted to see ads that were related to fitness and not the regular Konga, Jumia, Dealdey and Aliexpress ads that litter most blogs. Do I need to sign up for some of these targeted ads? If over time I am able to establish an active community of users and decide to sell fitness related stuff, would there be some kind of restriction from lets say Wordpress/hostgator? |

Brandnew2: @MsBella , May I ask what niche you're targeting before going into ways of generating income. Hello Brandnew, The niche is on weight loss. That blog is going to serve as my online documentation of the first 90 days of my weight loss journey. Depending on how it is received and how sucessful I am at losing weight, I want it to evolve to that one-stop place for fitness enthusiasts. |

Thanks to the OP for this thread as well as the contributors. I am also making plans towards building my own blog. I have done alot of research, particularly on webhost companies.
I intend using Wordpress and siteground. Alot of people would recommend Bluehost but the recent reviews on security and inefficient customer care is not encouraging.
Well, I am here to learn. Few questions I have to ask:
1. Should I start with a registered domain name or just start and register later? 2. Why do some blogs have issues with optimizing viewing options for mobile users? That is when you use yoir phone, the blog appears as desktop version. 3. Other than adsense, affiliates etc, what other way can a blog be monetized? |
