nassyblue: The educational system here particularly in nigeria is over hyped. School is preached as having excessive benefits. Meanwhile in the world, its much more difficult. You find dropouts and entrepreneurs who didn't see the four walls of school even employing the so-called graduates. So to me education and learning is a personal thing, shouldn't be stereotyped to four walls of some large building. Discover yourself, your passions. Delve into into. Learn about it passionately. The internet alone is a better school than most of our universities here... Take advantage of it and be a better person. Thanks.www.nairaland.com/1926245/teaching-job-why-detest-it |

Ejiofor Alike www.thisdaylive.com/articles/nigerian-content-board-trains-staff-on-oil-gas-parks-scheme/190210/ The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) at the weekend concluded the training of members of its staff, who would spearhead the design and operation of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Parks Scheme (NOGAPS), with the first phase scheduled to be sited in Bayelsa, Imo and Cross Rivers States. The training was held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State across nine weeks with the 45 participants also embarking on field trips to Onne Oil and Gas Free Trade Zone, Rivers State and Utuokein in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. Speaking at of the programme , the Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Mr. Ernest Nwapa explained that the training was conceived to instill the selected participants with a mindset that would be focused on development and manufacturing. He charged them to apply the knowledge they acquired in realising the oil and gas park projects. According to him, the NCDMB embarked on the development of the parks in a bid to promote manufacturing of oil and gas components and provide opportunities for research and development. He listed other benefits to include bringing Local Content practice closer to the grass roots and integrating oil and gas based entrepreneurs into manufacturing as well as supporting the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) through mentoring by international Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and other multinationals. “I want to be able to point at some monuments and say that apart from insisting that the industry grow and do the right thing, create jobs and value in Nigeria, we have also as an agency of government created this pipe mill, this oil and gas park and changed the way things are done in the industry,” he added. He also expressed hope that international producing oil companies and service companies will participate in the scheme to make it a success and charged industry stakeholders to focus on manufacturing of components as against short term contracting which had been the bane of the sector. In his goodwill message, the General Manager, Nigerian Content, Exxon Mobil, Mr. Sola Ogunsakin pledged the commitment of international oil companies towards making the Oil and Gas Parks Scheme a success. “We believe in this programme and we are going to contribute our quota towards making it a success. The Board has taken several giant strides in promoting the Nigerian Content since the enactment of the Act. This is going to attract foreign and domestic investments, promote community participation, manufacturing and foster the mentoring of local small and medium scale enterprises,” HE SAID. In their comments, the trainees commended the Board for taking them through an elaborate programme which exposed them to the philosophy and operations of oil and gas industrial parks and promised to apply their acquired knowledge into good use when the projects begin. |

By Onozure Dania Two businessmen, Noma Mohammed, 41, and Kabiru Mohammed, 32, were yesterday brought before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court sitting at Igbosere for allegedly defrauding a Bureau de Change owner of $50,000. The businessmen, whose residential addresses could not be verified, are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretences and stealing preferred against them by the police. The prosecutor, Inspector Stephen Molo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 14 at 12, Sanni Adewale Street, in Lagos Island. He said the businessmen impersonated themselves as Bureau de Change agents to one Alhaji Saminu Mohammed who runs same business. Teaching is not the most lucrative job to be honest but we often end up having more respect for our teachers more than anyone else. It has come to my notice for long that people naturally detest they teaching job. WHY DO YOU DETEST THE TEACHING JOB? |
I will comment later! Modified: @OP, you asked 'why do I go to school'?. I will answer by telling you it's just to have education believing that it will be the benchmark for me to be successful in life. Like you rightly said, our parents has made us to believe that but we later find out it's not totally right. We often confuse 'Schooling' with 'Knowledge', but it's has been discover that some people may have education without been knowledgeable and it brings to mind the debate of 'Brilliance VS. Intelligence'. In conclusion, I thank God I had education because I read my way through to discover some fault in some of the things our parents told us back then and I have come to realise that there are two things that shape our destiny and define our future, 1) the choice we make and 2) our commitment towards that choice. I submit! |
I will comment later. Modified: I haven't done something crazy in my opinion because I have done stuffs I could have done for some else, even a friend. * I remember I paid her school fees when she used her to celebrate birthday. * I disagree with her even when what she said is right just to cover my ass.(I was wrong about that I admit) * I get scared whenever she didn't answer my call. (Y I'm I scared? Silly) |
Good actions but I'm skeptical about the need for that. I'd rather use the fund to make research on Boko Haram or preferably Poverty, we've seen almost the demise of Ebov but not that of BH and poverty. |
Senate President, David Mark, on Monday, condemned the practice in some states of the federation where governors had been running the various local government councils with council chairmen that were not democratically elected. Mark stated this at the public presentation of three books written by the Secretary, Directorate of Legal Services of the National Assembly, Mr. Daniel Adem, in Abuja. He also challenged the judiciary to be more creative in interpreting laws to ensure better dispensation of justice. The senate president, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Anthony Manzo, said, “You will agree with me that the powers conferred in the constitution on local government councils are being usurped. Section 7 guarantees only democratically elected local government council chairmen. “I know there are so many states in this country that are running undemocratic local government councils. A local government chairman should be like a governor in his local government just as the governors are like the president in their various states. “Governors should stop subverting the constitutional rights of the local government chairmen in their states.” Mark urged the judiciary to emulate the Western countries by ensuring efficient dispensation of justice through effective interpretation of laws. He said, “We are also encouraging the judiciary to do the work they are doing. I think we have come a long way in terms of quality of what is happening at the bench. We believe it should be better. “Obviously, the judiciary is getting its acts together and I hope that it would only get better. In most climes, it is the judiciary that determines and defines the character of the democracy being practised. “In the United States, it is what the judge says that is the law. You may go and make your own law but it is what the judge says that is the law. I want to encourage the judiciary to be relatively more imaginative in terms of looking at the interpretation of the constitution.” The senate president said there were many aspects of the nation’s constitution that should be looked into and noted that the lawmakers were already doing justice to that. “There are some loose interpretations in the constitution that we have to look into. Being a nation where we don’t trust each other, the constitution should be as detailed as possible. “For instance why should it be the legislators that would define what is gross misconduct in an impeachment proceeding? We should not be a judge or jury in our own courts, these are some of the areas that we should address so that we will have unbiased pronouncement,” he said. The Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Bem Angwe, at the event said the books would simplify the process of legislative engagement. Angwe, who was represented by Head of the Directorate in his office, Mr. Harry Obe, said simplification of legislative engagement was central to the mandate of the commission. “As you know, one of the critical mandates of the commission is to review bills, laws and administrative policies to ensure that they are in conformity with human right norms and simplification of legislative engagement will help in this regard,”he said. www.punchng.com/news/mark-laments-seizure-of-councils-powers-by-govs/ |
The Lagos State Government says the ban it placed on the sale or display of rams by the roadside is still in full force. The Commissioner for the Environment, Tunji Bello, said this in a statement on Monday. Bello said government still had a zero tolerance for the display and sale of rams by the roadside. The Commissioner said the government would disallow conversion of open spaces across the state to ram markets. He said the Id el Kabir Festval should not be taken as a licence to contravene the street trading and environmental sanitation laws. He said, “The state government encourages individuals to engage in legitimate and legal means of livelihood, but it will not condone violation of the state laws. It is common for traders to take advantage of this season to sell their rams, but they must do so without compromising the wellbeing of Lagosians.” Bello highlighted illegal ram markets in the state which include the Agege Motor Road, Ilupeju junction Rail line, Ijora, Suru-Lere, Abeokuta Motor Road, Costain, Egbeda, Alaba, Okokomaiko, Olumegbon, Suenu and Gbaja areas in Surulere. The commissioner observed that Lagos had attained a status in environmental management across the world, and should not be seen as engaging in retrogressive acts like selling of rams by the roadside. He advised residents of Lagos to embrace the waste management policy of the government during the Sallah celebration as well as patronise approved operators for the disposal of their solid wastes. www.punchng.com/news/lasg-reinforces-ban-on-roadside-sale-of-rams/ |

(*)Police begin manhunt for murderers, says arrests have been made The Ekiti State police command has announced that “a number of arrests have been made” in the violence that grounded Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital on Friday. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, through a statement on his behalf by Mr. Victor Babayemi, on Friday said “a number of suspects have been arrested and taken into custody for investigation in relation to the mayhem.” According to him, “the Command is also on the trail of the gunmen who shot and killed the former NURTW boss.” Lakanu charged residents of the state to remain calm and be law- abiding. “We equally enjoin the people to comply with the dust to dawn curfew order made by the governor of Ekiti State.” He also warned that “Any person or group of persons found flouting the order or breaking the law will be adequately dealt with in accordance with the law.” The statement said the Commissioner of Police again reacted by leading the DPOs and other officers on patrol to curtail the mayhem. “With prompt and decisive response, the situation in Ado-Ekiti metropolis was brought under effective control.” “This also paved the way for other agencies like Fire and Ambulance Services to respond to the emergency situation.” |

Governor Fayemi, who addressed the people of the state in a statewide broadcast, also said he was “advised incontrovertibly that thugs acting on the command of Mr. Ayo Fayose, who was also present to lend his clout to the travesty, brazenly assaulted a senior judge and urged his thugs to beat him up and tear his clothes.” He added that “the fact that this assault did not meet with any strong deterring repercussions from the appropriate authorities further emboldened the miscreants.” Governor Fayemi said the violence had “led to the closure of the courts indefinitely due to the inability of the security agencies to guarantee the safety of lives and property in our temples of justice. “With the entrenched atmosphere of impunity, violence in the state has escalated with the unfortunate loss of one life and the willful damage to several properties to arson by rampaging thugs.” Fayemi said he had contacted the heads of the various security agencies in the state but noted that “It is worrisome that the slow and inadequate response has occasioned the avoidable escalation of violence in our dear state.” He announced the suspension of his ongoing ‘Thank You’ tour “which I’m undertaking as part of our transitioning-out formalities,” and added that “I have taken the decision to institute a dusk to dawn curfew in the state immediately.” He said “there would be no movement between the hours of 7.00 p.m. and 7.00 a.m. everyday till further notice. We urge the citizenry to be vigilant and provide the security agencies with details of suspicious activities that can undermine the peace in our state.” On the court matter that ignited the violence, Fayemi said “the course of Justice can only be delayed, but can never be truncated,” saying “I have directed the Attorney General of the state to issue a legal advisory to the Chief Judge of the state and all the parties to the existing cases in the state High Court and the Ekiti State governorship elections petitions tribunal, on the desirability of seeking an alternative venue for the hearing of these cases outside Ekiti State.” (*)Fayose describes killing as barbaric, says Fayemi’s allegation ‘reckless’ Reacting to the development, Fayose, who visited the home of the deceased to commiserate with his widows and the family members, described the murder of Aderiye, his strong supporter, as “barbaric.” He said that the murder happening at this point in time showed that “it is a political killing.” He said he would “rest it with the police to do a proper investigation,” saying “the murdered Aderiye was my very strong supporter. We were together till about 5pm yesterday, (Thursday).” He said “taking his life is not an option. It is not the best. This is irreparable and we have come here to condole with the family.” While pointing fingers, he said: “If this other party is sure they are not the ones responsible for the killing, they should be courageous enough to come and pay a condolence visit to his family.” Reacting to the mayhem that had paralysed Ado Ekiti, Fayose said: “What happened in town is a clear reaction of the people to the steps being taken by the out-going government to simply cause chaos in the state before their exit.” On the allegation by Fayemi that he caused the mayhem following the court proceeding, Fayose said “he (Fayemi) is a defeated man, so I don’t expect anything better from him.” “I see him as governor until his time is over so, I would rather not join issues with him. It is reckless for anybody to be making assertions on an incident you didn’t witness.” On the advice Fayemi said he would seek on his ongoing trial, Fayose said “I will want to accord the office due respect and not join issues with him. He has only said he has advised the Chief Judge. That is only an advice and there is nothing wrong with it.” Fayose said he had been “going round town to calm the framed nerves of the people,” saying “if we have not been calming the people since last night, you wouldn’t have seen the peace we have now,” saying “their target is to make sure that the inauguration doesn’t take place but my desire is to ensure there is peace and that is why I have been working hard to calm the people.” According to the governor-elect, “having failed in their bid to twist justice through the court, they have now resorted to self-help. But I’m assuring you that by the grace of God, because God abhors people who shed blood, the blood of Aderiye will fight his killers.” |
