victorVIC1:At bolded, I agree without any doubt. You cannot defend universities in Nigeria to be charging 16k in this era. It is not defensible. We are a DEVELOPING nation. Even the almighty UK no dey subside their universities again! |
lexy2014:Just stop defending the indefensible for you to sound politically correct. Once you know there are free tuition universities abroad, just go there. 16k is very ridiculous. In a matter like this, reference to UK, US, Canada, Australia education will go out of the window, it is now you will become Scandinavian and Germany fans, where you need to deposit millions of naira for your maintenance. Once you have identified you have choices to school free abroad, just run with it. |
abysirius:Your comparison was too broad. What data are you using to work on this comparison of yours? It is not only education you get when you attend A-list university, the network no be here. |
lexy2014:Then you need to direct your question to those that run the universities. I am not in a position to provide you response on that. |
victorVIC1:Nigerians are always quick to reference some places abroad when the situations don't favour them. These countries you are referring to - like Germany, Finland - do you know how much they pay as taxes? If this administration wants to tax us like they tax people abroad where you have to pay TV license for the TV you bought with your own money each month, will you still compare Nigeria to the Western World or will you revolt? Some grown adults in Nigeria have never paid taxes in their lifetime despite generating incomes. Stop comparing Nigeria to advanced Nations. We are a "developing" nation and the country cannot afford to be subsidizing education. Ask the Japa crew how much they are paying in the Uni abroad, for so many useless courses. When we reach the level as a country where we can offer citizenry free education , it will happen but for now, it is impossible. That is our reality! |
lexy2014:You have the choice to examine the university quite well before you enroll. Go for where you can get the true worth for your money. |
What quality of education do you expect when you pay 16k as a tuition fee? Let us tell ourselves the truth please! |
Nigerians cannot be saving in dire pain and the political class be looting with reckless abandon. Time for people to start dragging their governors instead of always focusing on the presidency. |
Bobloco:Governors that can't be trusted. The governors have even ensured to make sure local govt is non functional and rationing their money for them. The LG chairmen will have to write the governor before they can be allowed to have access to their fund. My question is if we save a lot of money via subsidy, must we spend almost all our savings at a go? |
Did they pay for it in Naira? . OP is a sensationalist |

South Africa has pitched her tent clearly with Russia. If Nigeria international relation is solid, it is now that we should be courting favour from the west to counter SA. SA will still pay the price for this action in the not too distant future. |
Brendaniel:Everything you have mentioned is long term. Presidents are not magicians. You cant realistically expect a president that has not even spent 3 months in power to do all these. He wont solve all Nigeria problems and he has his limits. For instance, he lacks the constitutional power to set salary for the legislatures - senators and house of rep. To prosecute looters, we need a strong and robust judiciary. He does not have control over the Judiciary according to the constitution. If Judiciary is corrupt, what can the president do? If the President was to follow these suggestions, then he has to keep borrowing, while pursuing these long terms policies that you mentioned. Then it would have been worse because Nigeria will look like Sri Lanka. You can just xray his policies so far, and let us have your opinion on them. What do you honestly think? |
stebell:You raised a lot of valid points to be honest. But can I ask? If you do not start taxing or remove the subsidy, where will you get the revenue to execute your manifesto? Remember that the current budget is to be financed by 60% borrowing, 40% crude sales, despite the heavy debts that Nigeria has sunk in. Will you have just rolled with it and start borrowing to implement the budget or you will look inward to generate revenue so as to reduce the burden of debt? |
For those castigating the president for everything he does, if you were made a President today, what would you have done differently?. Kindly consider the large debt hanging on Nigeria. You can even critique what he has done so far and suggest alternative option(s). For me, I do not agree with spending 500 billion naira on palliatives. It will only end one way. He might have a good intention, but the greedy hawks are always lurking to steal as usual. How do you share money to the poorest of the poor in a country that does not have reliable data? I agree with the rest of the policies though. Please be civil with your comments so we can all learn. |
OP, you mean you are relying on faceless individuals to teach you how to spend the money you will be earning as an adult? |
The president was sending a message of intent to restore Nigeria to her rightful place. If not that we have had bad leadership in the past, other african countries, especially west africa region should be looking up to us. The wheels are gradually turning |
Dyfynezz12:Stop comparing this way. Each country pays on the basis of how expensive its country is. If UK starts paying her citizen Nigeria wages, it will never be enough because UK is very expensive. If Nigerian starts earning UK salary, there will be too much money in circulation which will lead to serious inflation. Mango and Apple are fruits but different. |
JC2021:You raised a very valid and genuine point. I agree with you totally. No matter what is saved, if corruption is still endemic - among the Judiciary, Executives and the Legislatures both at the State and Federal level - it is a waste. I hope he will be able to enact a policy that will drive his anti corruption agenda. Judiciary corruption is on another level; i have no idea how to deal with that because if you accuse a corrupt Judge, it is another corrupt judge that will adjudicate on the matter. |
Angelfrost:Permit me to join issue with you, in as much we can air our opinion in civil manner. There are only 2 ways for this administration to go: 1. Retain the old way as it was. 2. This new way The First way will bankrupt the country as we keep on borrowing to drive our budget. The current budget that Tinubu inherited is to be implemented by 40% crude oil sales and 60% borrowing. It is not sustainable. We are heading the way of Sri Lanka. The Second way will be tough at the start. Our budget wont be driven by 60% borrowing any longer. We will save money that can be used to build infrastructure. When people realise that the item you use to import has become so expensive, people will think out of the box to create similar thing that will work locally. That was how the new China was birthed. There are no easy way for this current administration. I buy fuel for 508 naira as well but it is a price we have to pay for years of badly managed economy. If you know of the 3rd way you feel this current administration should have gone or you want to pick holes in what I have stated, I will be willing to read from you and learn. Thank you! |
Hussein035:They will actually spend more due to inflation. |
Students schooling abroad should be able to afford the cost. Nigeria is undergoing structurally changes and we are going in different directions. Nigeria cannot be subsidising each dollar and pound that people are taking outside the country. This same set of people are part of individuals that put lot of pressure on the Naira that make it to lose its value. Sadly, when they send or bring foreign currency to Nigeria, they will go to the black market to exchange it instead of changing it at the CBN rate, forgetting that this same CBN subidised every dollar they took outside the country. Capital flight has to stop. If you need dollars or pounds, seek for it at the normal rate. |
Angel55555:No. It's not like a normal Programming. They are trained on data and can make their own decisions. I believe humans venturing into deep learning will destroy the world eventually. |
Nigeria needs to focus on registration of birth and deaths. This is cheaper and will eradicate physical counting of people. What a waste |
Main focus of Nigerians is to get the citizenship. What they fail to realise is having citizenship alone does not translate to making money. The value you possess will determine how far you can go over there. Sadly, a Lizard in Nigeria wont turn to Crocodile abroad. A Lizard will always be a Lizard. |
guobe:I have learnt to stop warning people about the suffering in the UK because they will tag me enemy of progress. I want them to go and see for themselves. |
This girl was trying hard to protect a criminal enterprise. She is 19, an adult, DSS should subject her to an intense investigation, she will sing. |
victorkk06:This girl keeps digging her grave the more. She was claiming "phishing" where a fake website will redirect her to another website. This happens when a fake JAMB website is set up and this is usually done to steal details like customer's password for internet banking. Girl, of what importance is your registration number to warrant a fake Jamb website. Give us the url of the website that you visited that directed you. I hope you know if someone creates a fake Jamb website and registers it right now to cover your track, the date at which such site is hosted can always be known. The girl committed a fraud alongside her parents and she's bold enough to continue to manipulate the truth. Our reps do not have jobs anyway. They will make this their focus. |
Kingdemu:She was complicit. Pretending like a saint now after her cover has been blown open will not work. At the age of 19, she started her fraudulent activities on the high. What was actually unfair was her attempt in conjunction with her parents to bring down the name of JAMB, knowing fully what they did. Shameful! |
Why is it not always mentioned that Messi has won the Olympic, and FIFA under 20 world cup before?. He even won the player of the tournament in the under 20 FIFA world cup; he won both the golden boot and the golden ball. |
The father's attempt to whip up emotion will not work. He knew they forged the result. The daughter knew. They were caught cold, and all these stories of the daughter being brilliant from the womb was a hogwash. I suspect this would not be their first time of doing such. The rate at which Nigerian parents cheat for their wards is disheartening, and this cuts across all tribes. |

Larryndelaw:She is 19 years old actually |
