Cancellation or postponement of elections in one of two states would not lead to any scenario at the national level. Is it not strange that the bombings never take place in Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano and other CPC stronghold but only takes place in Niger, Kaduna, Plateau and other Northern states which supports PDP? The truth is, some people are not happy that thier 'brothers' in the north have refused to join the CPC bandwagon, thats why you see all these bombs.

My heart goes out to all those who died in the blast. Its actually strange that when the North was ruling, there was no bomb blast in the North. Now that GEJ would soon win, they are busy bombing themselves. Is it a mere coincidence that the blast is only taking place  at states in the North where PDP is likely to win? How come we dont hear of bomd blast in places like kano, Kebbi, Zamfar and other CPC's strongholds? If Buhari likes let him bomb the whol North, he would still lose.

One of the most intelligent post I have seen on Nairaland! Sadly, from the other comments, it is obviously that most people do not think this deeply. Like you said, many members of the other parties were members of PDP and only left when they did not get the tickets they wanted.Furthermore, the governor of Rivers State is one of the best performing governors in Nigeria - and he is PDP!

1999 - Some self confessed northern leaders imposed OBJ on Nigerias through PDP. No complaints from the North
2003 - Re-imposition of OBJ on Nigerians through PDP. No complaints from the North
2007 - OBJ and other Northern leaders imposed Yar Adua on Nigerians. No complaints from the North.
2011 - GEJ, a souththener, gets PDP presidential ticket against Northerners' wish, and suddenly all we hear from the north is PDP MUST BE VOTED OUT.

The posters of President Goodluck Jonathan and his vice Namadi Sambo are rare. On Saturday, before the accreditation of voters began in Birnin-Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State, irate youths took to the streets and tore down the few posters around his campaign office located in Badariya area of the capital, just by the Independent Iational Electoral Commission, INEC office.
Right through the labyrinths of Koko, Besse, Jega, Kalgo, Bunza and Birnin-Kebbi towns, the PDP is stripped. “The PDP has nothing to offer to our people. Our Governor (Saidu Dakingari), who is PDP is known for uncompleted projects,” Rep Muhammed Umar Jega, said on Saturday.
The anthropology of the Northern people is interesting. In Kebbi, as in every part of the North, most children bear the name of the hamlet or town they hail from. My guide through the warm state, Mr.Murtala Ubale, says the practice began with the advent of Arabic Education in the North. “Because of similarities in names, every student had to register with their father’s name, plus the name of his town,” he said
The monotony in naming culture is however, hardly the problem for the average ‘Kebawa’ (People of Kebbi). The problem appears to be squarely PDP.
As the reporter walked the streets on Saturday to observe the voters’ accreditation exercise, a gawky youth on sighting the press tag swinging on my neck, ran across the narrow road, mounted a ledge opposite the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Abdullahi Fodio Palace, and shouted: ‘Anjerida Sai Buhari’(Journalist, vote for Buhari).
Across the narrow paths, women, beautifully clad in hijabs made long and windy queues for accreditation. The queues for men were far apart, but the lines were to melt away in a few hours, the moment the men with their radios clung to their ears heard the news that there would be a poll shift.
We drove to the Gingi area in Jega Local Government at about 11:09 am, and electoral officers were nowhere to be seen. Same for Basaura, Langido and Masallaci Zaria, all in Jega. “This place is a stronghold of CPC, that is why they deprived them of materials,” a local radio man told the reporter.
We were at the INEC office at Jega, at about 12:00am to enquire from the electoral officer why materials for voters’ accreditation were absent in more than five polling units.
The lanky and calm EO, gave a wry smile, tilted his head unfazed to the left side and said we lied.
“As far I am concerned, materials for accreditation were sent to those areas you mentioned”, he insisted.
Efforts by a heavily bearded man who sounded like an agent of a candidate to pull the frail EO along to the areas he claimed he sent materials, proved abortive. The EO insisted he would go at his own time.
We left at about 1:00pm. We were in the Basaura area, and yet no materials. An old man, way above70 stood barefooted on dry reeds and murmured curses at government, he then raised his head, gave us a teary look and walked away.  He was just one of the many registrants who could not vote on Saturday.
But on Sunday, a government supporter, told the reporter that most of the “so-called supporters of CPC are not registered voters,” according to him, “it will amount to illiteracy if the government of Nasamu (Gov. Dakingari) is accused of trying to rig when obviously he has nothing to fear.”
On whether the PDP could deliver the state to President Goodluck Jonathan, he said “Wallahi, that is not what we should be talking about now.”

There is nothing new in this report apart from confirming that THISDAY POLL is reliable afterall and therefore GEJ would win the election. Below is what THISDAY Polls said about Kebbi:

"Buhari holds clear leads in six states – Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Kebbi, Yobe and Zamfara – and narrow leads in three – Katsina, Niger and Sokoto.

With the presidential poll due this weekend, indications are that Jonathan's drag-net has swept deep into the North mopping up a comfortable chunk of the yet undecided votes to fortify his landside victory dream.

North's electorate abandon leaders
National Daily intelligence reveal that with obvious cracks in the northern political leaders camps, the reasoning of the electorate in that region is tilting South and indeed in favour of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). It was learnt that in Borno, Kaduna, densely populated Kano Gombe, Jigawa, Bauchi, Jonathan is currently the toast of most voters.

The traditional leaders, including emirs, sultan and elder statesmen such as Alhaiji Shehu Shagari and Second Republic President have given their blessings to Jonathan's race bid and that has not changed, a source from Niger State told National Daily.
“We should stop deceiving ourselves with this consensus president thing after all the talks by the political groups and elders have collapsed. To gain from the next political dispensation, it is advisable we just stick with President Jonathan and one of our own, Namadi Sambo, the political elder said.

Massive clout from opposition
Scores of the opposition parties smaller parties inclined to be part of the positive change cruise have already endorsed Jonathan. As of last count, the parties believed to be as many as 46, included the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party, Alliance for Democracy (AD), Movement for Democracy and Justice (MDJ), Republican Party, Nigeria's People Congress, Democratic Peoples 'Alliance and Action Alliance, Action Party of Nigeria, Accord Party, Movement for the Restoration of Democracy and the rest of the 26 opposition working under the aegis of Grand Patriotic Alliance of Nigeria, among others.

Why Jonathan deserves North's Vote
Sokoto Deputy Governor, Mukhtar Shagari in a recent interview reinforced the claim that the average Northern has a heart of his own and so that massive vote for Jonathan from that region was imminent.
He reportedly said that if the founding father of Nigeria's democracy of Northern extraction, Sarduana and Sir Tafawa Balewa were alive they would vote for Jonathan.

Opposition talks deadlocked
Fresh moves by the northern top candidates to pool resources against Jonathan meanwhile hang in limbo. The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) at the weekend confirmed fresh talks on possibility of presenting a common presidential candidate.
The plot said be to championed by northern politicians, under the aegis of Arewa Youth Action for Change (AYAC), has brought CPC's Muhammadu Buhari; his counterparts in All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Ibrahim Shekarau and ACN, Nuhu Ribadu to try and agree on one ticket.
The national publicity secretary of the CPC, Rotimi Fashakin, who confirmed that Buhari was involved in the talks with the northern politicians and elders, explained that the CPC accepted to join in the discussions so as to unseat Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from power.
National Daily gathered that the parties had been discussing a possible merger, but could not agree on a common candidate before the primaries.
But observers say the effort would lead them nowhere as each of them remained adamant on flying their parties ticket.

“In politics, even 24 hours is a long time not to talk of almost two weeks. That is like eternity in politics,” Buhari's spokesman said.
Fashakin, however, said that Buhari will not step down for either Ribadu or Shekarau, insisting that the former military ruler is the best candidate among the three.
“You don't go to an examination and tell the brightest candidate to hand over his first position to the second or third candidate. This is antithetical to rationality. It is not something you will readily see,” he said.
“I am saying that of all the northern candidates, Buhari commands the most acceptability in the broad spectrum of the Nigerian people. He has the greatest chance to defeat the PDP. Unless you want to bring in other issues, Buhari stands out as the best candidate, considering his pedigree and character.”
Ibrahim Modibbo, the spokesperson for Ribadu confirmed that discussions but refused comments on the possible choice.

Jonathan still leads
Popularity rating for the president has continued to soar in recent weeks, the gang-up by the Northern political trio not withstanding. All parameters point to one fact; Jonathan would sweep the hot cake areas of North Central and South West with large numbers of registered voters, as well as the Niger Delta Region indeed the whole of South and most of the North to a stunning victory if opposition did not scuttle the elections.

This is why I don't respond to some posts. I dislike tribal, ethnic and regional discussions. I;m from the South-east (one of the oil producing areas by the way) and I'm supporting Buhari. For me, Nigeria is bigger than any one tribe and our conversations should also be well above these regional sentiments.

But unfortunately, the reality is that thats the politics stirred up by Ciroma and co, and taken up by CPC.I agree with you that some people support CPC outside of the North and also that PDP has some support in the nouth. The way the debate-turned address turned out, you'll think the 'new' questions were certainly put together in a hurry. Tell Muani, If other candidates were there at the debate how do you think they would have been able to respond to some of the questions that were obviously prepared for Jonathan?

When Saharareporters were bashing the Ya'radua kitchen cabinet and standing for Jonathan, they were the darling of everyone. Now it is junk journalism. I read Saharareporters once in a while and while some of the stuffs are not always exactly right, they are always within the neighborhood of the truth.

However, the fact remains that SR never did a rejoinder to apologise or explain why the questions where not the same ( which may include the point you just raised).A serious media house would have taken either options because not doing so would affect thier credibility.As for the bashing of Yar' adua, the last tiime I checked, he was a member of Pdp. I find it difficult to believe that people still take SaharaReporters seriously! From the comments I have seen on this thread, it is obvious that some people do which really got me thinking. Covenant University Opinion Poll Unit (CUOPU) is a branch of Covenant University Centre for Research and Development (CUCERD) with a sole responsibility of carrying out both physical and electronic unbiased research opinion survey of Nigerians (at States and National levels) on issues of National and International interests. The unit headed by a Professor of Communication consists of researchers from various relevant disciplines of the University like: Demography, Political Science, Sociology, System and Information Science, Computer and Information Science, Mass Communication, Mechanical Engineering and Physics. The constitution of the team ensures efficient data gathering and processing towards a credible and fair 2011 election in Nigeria. Here we publish the electronic opinion poll result (data and chart) of December 2010 - January 2011 just before the primaries. There will be, subsequently, a monthly survey till election. This opinion poll survey done in all the 36 states of Nigeria and Federal capital Territory (FCT) Abuja is fully sponsored by Covenant University as a worthy contribution towards free and credible election in Nigeria.
