biggal:yes. from the first batch of 100 sacks darina i planted, before embarking on cu999variety. which is the second batch. |
biggal:The did wonderfully well. I got 4.3kg so far from the 30sacks of tomato, and am still harvesting since 3rd week of october. Then the pepper is doing well. |
Emempaul:Thanks. Its experiment though. results will be used to harness your advice. |
whitecloth:I didnt measure with bag since the woman buying is very close. I harvest the big ones at intervals, arranged in baskets and sent to her. |
Germination started on 27/10/2016. and I only had 18/20. dats a good germination rate recorded. and so far the stems are climbing very well. kudos to the rich soil they have. watering is done three times in a week. pictures of the trellis for them to climb is coming in later in the evening. I adopted my trellis in my cucumber thread. but this time i did link it up with the two rolls so dat the ugu will climb up and form a bed like structure above 6ft.

hahn:Ok. I don't know o. In my area we eat the both leaves and the fruit. The frut can be cooked and eaten raw when its not that very matured. The seed can also be cooked, fermented and used in cooking so IBO soup (oha soup). its serves same purpose as the yoruba locust beans(Iru) or the anambra/enugu (ogiri) for making bitterleaf soup. |
21 ugu seeds were purchased from the local market, dried for five days and planted. soil preparation. two wheel barrows of sand three bags of manure.(poultry dungs). and filled into the perforated sacks. and arranged 10 per roll. on 20/10/2016.

Good day my people.having tried tomatoe, pepper and cucumber with sack farming, now am experimenting on pumpkin. and if it eventually yield a good result. then we are hitting dry season below belt. |
chicken dung can't be free as it z part of the poultry value chain and has to be valued on a suitable basis. trellis must be valued unless you used got the rope and wooden support frm nature. won't you pay urself salary even if na part-time or oga u dey do work for god. spending valuable time in a farm, you need to get paid as those hours could give you money elsewhere. you are still one step ahead of me in cukes cos you hv done it practically and i am yet to! [/quot] Poultry dungs is free in some large poultry farms in owerri. sometimes what we sought for other places are right dia in our locality, but laziness wount allow us get them. Agric i know is not for lazy people. If early man waited for improved farm tools dia wouldn't be agriculture today. Even land can be gotten free. check that empty land in your vicinity approach the owner. its a matter of just 40days maximum you will plant and harvest your cukes.sometimes the prize for success is not all about money. Humility and manner of approach can be price to get free space to do something.Even federal government is willing to assist with land and others hence its for agricultural purpose with the famine currently in the country. |
the profit margin z only this high because the major factors of production are not considered on the scale. when u make payment for some of those factors,i am nt sure you will have more And you didnt check the fact I used sacks of which i can still plant on bare ground to also reduce cost. One thing is clear in agriculture you can get 105% of ROI when you do effective and proper management on higher scale.plus good market strategy. Everybody love agric when it comes to seeing returns yet few pple are willing to get down to business. I advise people If you are passionate about Agric you wount consider money at the initial stage. because come rain come shine the money must come. its a must. I started cucumber farming as hobby until i got very surprising harvest. before you know it demand set in. |
Good morning good people. I realised av not given the expenses incurred in the journey of cucumber farming. now checking from the first specie i planted which is darina. Land space =free Seeds per 100sacks=2 Cost of 10g seed= 950 Poultry dungs=free sacks= 1000naira for 100. Strings for trellis= free Water=free Labour=self. Liquid fertilizer=free from the farm sales=5600. Cost of production=1950 Profit= 3650 So with the above figures. when you scale up. we determine how large your profit will be, hence you have a good harvest and good sale. Thanks my people. Next Ugu sack farming loading.... |
globalfanz:It is. but for hybrid seeds not encouraging. you are likely not to get the same characteristics. |
jephito:Lol. As far as you planted, harvested and sold. you are a guru in the biznezz. |
@oga jephito thanks its good having experts around. seminis darina is no longer in stock in my area. they only sell in transparent nylon of 2g. I think darina is scarce now. for the trellis am only using this. just comfortable with it for now. |
Pavore9:lol. honestly its passion. |
Pavore9:honestly the misconception has eating deep into our people, which made turn lazy to work for peanut all the years of their lives. Again Our pple beliv in what did you study. Some people visited my farm, after being marvelled the simply as what did u studied?. I will gladly tell them its Industrial Chem. Anybody can turn farmer its only interest and passion. |
Pavore9:yea even now. good, though not easy o. land, labour and capital is required in addition to experience and time. Though getting the thread to fp may also serve as great motivation. As visitors flood the farm to see how cucumber vine looks. you can imagine the suprise look on their face. |
Pavore9:on it already. with 100sacks only. |
Pavore9:on it already. with 100sacks only. |
first harvest @41days. its truely a success story for CU 999variety.
|
ok. I visited the cukes this morning being 3/11/2016 (40days). and we are getting set for.harvest. meanwhile attached is my 1.5kg harvest from my 30sacks tomato trial i planted since august. probably the third harvest now since two weeks. |
peterbabs:spot fast growing weeds in your farm. get them cutt-off the root, then cut the remaining parts into pieces and soack in a closed bucket/container. you can as well add banana pill, little amount of poultry dung, cow dung etc. allow to ferment for at least two weeks. then add 500ml or more to 20litres of water and use it to wet ur plant soil. |
kayo80:Am not an advocate of pills to avoid addiction and concentrating its contents in ur system. Check the work you do. it is probably the number one contributor.adjust your time to allow 1hr siesta for two weeks, Drink enough water, make sure u dont miss your break fast and eat shouldnt be later than 9am. exercise ur body atleast twice in a week for 30mins. Dont miss ur nyt sleep also. latest 10pm and it good healthy foods rich in carbohydrate, protein and vitamins. thanks |
Arvinkris:I used on poultry dungs in the soil preparation. And av applied my liquid fertilizer made in my farm.I believe in organic farming wen it comes to veggies. though am experimenting inorganic on my cukes. |
Pavore9:lolz. honestly anything is expected from experiment. I believe the problem is from the nursery preparation. |
Arvinkris:not actually but just experimenting to see if it grows very well in my area.If the result is impressive, then i begin small scale. before scaling up. |
Nice job @organicfoods have been following u from the first day u created this thread. going organic is easy but stressed despite saving huge money. from my understanding your organic project is just to conquer vaccine and durugs administered to chicks. But in the aspect of feed. i believe you've not. due to lysine, methionine and other additives in the feed which also aid their growth. Again you over fed them. a broiler chick consumes 67g per day. but after two weeks its 125g then 130g till u sale at table size.THough some people feed for 24hrs due to market. But i commend u for good works. I look forward to adopt your drug method for upscale in easter.you amazed me with that 1112g |
@36days. today being 29/10/2016. hopefully we are moving.
@mr pavore9 attached pics is the cabbage we talked about.5weeks old.
|
wow. its been a long time people. updates on my CU999 cukes coming on tomorrow. They started fruiting lately 33days, very poor compared to darina at 25days. |
whitecloth:good. read the post over . from the first page. its very clear and easy to understand. my watsaap contact is dia also. for guidance. |
adescopy:two seeds per sack. pesticide from the 10th day. twice a week .in the evening time precisely. i use fungicide from 21 days. and know dat pesticide must be reduced when deh start flowering. |
ok my people. 20/10/2016 marks 27days old of the cukes. some started flowering yesterday. comparing it with darina. I will infere that darina grows faster than 999.Since darina started flowering at 25th day in the earlier planting.
