Music/RadioCollin Powell Dances Yahoozee by Mustay(op): 6:08pm On Oct 20, 2008
The audience cheered as Mr Powell clambered on stage at the Royal Albert Hall in London to join Nigerian musician Olu Maintain.

Still dressed in a buttoned up suit, he seemed at ease as he treated the crowds to moves from the popular African dance Yahoozee.

He even took the microphone and belted out a few lyrics.

Mr Powell was a guest at Africa Rising, a festival to highlight the talents and achievements of the African continent.

The concert also featured pop singers Christina Aguilera and British-born soul singer Seal as well as fashion collections by Ozwald Boateng and Deola Sagoe.

Before showing off his dance moves Mr Powell spoke of his belief that it is Africa's turn to experience an economic boom.

He said: "I stand before you tonight as an African American. Many people have said to me you became Secretary of State of the USA, is it still necessary to say that you are an African American or that you are black, and I say yes, so that we can remind our children.

"It took a lot of people struggling to bring me to this point in history. I didn't just drop out of the sky, people came from my continent in chains."

Mr Powell told the audience at the Africa Rising event that a lot of wrongs have been done to the continent of Africa by Western powers faced with "an iron curtain and a bamboo curtain."

But he explained that these barriers have now fallen and that "the world is being driven now by new financial forces".

He said: "Asia is expanding, it created jobs for people, and Eastern Europeans are doing the same, in my continent - Latin America, it's happening also - it's now Africa's turn.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/telegraph/multimedia/archive/01009/colin4-460_1009515c.jpg

"(With) all this wealth creation going on in the world, it won't happen with just wishing, it will be done with hard work.

"Africa needs aid, but more than that it needs trade - it needs capital, but it has the same potential as Asia and Eastern European countries.

"There's no reason a new Africa can't be created here and now."

PhonesRe: Etisalat - Nigeria's 5th GSM Operator by Mustay(m): 9:49am On Oct 20, 2008
Management of Etisalat Nigeria says it has concluded arrangements to roll out millions of lines this month.

Ken Ogujiofor, senior manager (North) of the company, disclosed this during the 009choose Campaign and Road Show organised in Gwagwalada Area Council Abuja recently.

Ogujiofor explained that the 009choose Road Show was part of the organisation’s promotional effort to get people to know that they can reserve a line that is personal to them.

The choice of a reserved line, according to him “will have to remind them of the anniversaries, birth date and the name of towns. It’s just something that is peculiar; it’s the first time in the country.
“Welcoming people on the network with the ability to choose their partners, we are trying to communicate that to everybody.

We’ve been to several locations in Abuja and its environ,” he said.
He explained that the coming of Etisalat to Nigeria was aimed at raising the nation’s low teledensity which presently stood at a little above 55 million.

The market is not saturated. The Nigerian population alone can tell you that the teledensity in Nigeria is still very low, so the market is there. It’s not just about the number it’s about the service.
“Even if the market is saturated, people will still go where they will get a better service. That is what we are offering the consumer,” the senior manager remarked.

So we are just here to satisfy the customer.” I would not talk about the package like I told you but when the package is ready we’ll give you fully bake and then you will be able to understand why we are coming in that form.”He explained that the campaign will also be organised in various major Northern cities including Kaduna, Kano among others. He noted that interested subscribers could reserve and register via phone call or on the net: www.etisalat.nigeria.com. So they will be able to reserve their numbers. Some of the benefits to be enjoyed by subscribers include 300 seconds free air time every month for life. “And of course you have the opportunity of choosing a number that is special to you. If my name is Ken, I may decide to do 0809ken or use the name of your company, the name of your child or whatever. Just personalise it; making life very easy for you the way you want it to be. So that’s part of the benefits. He explained that any subscriber who failed to redeem the reserved line would forfeit such line over a specific period of time adding that such line would be given to intending subscriber afterwards.”Definitely if the numbers are reserved that is one step, redeeming it is the second step. You cannot force somebody to redeem a number if it is not redeemed for over a period of time it will be out for any other person to take. If it’s not taken somebody else has to take it down the line.”

from Kaduna to Kano, Etisalat conpleted the kano tour last week.

http://www.businessdayonline.com/technology/17452.html

Anyway, here are some xtics of the network's internet restrictions:

The type of content that is restricted by Etisalat includes:

- Pornography

- The entire Israel country code top-level domain (.il)

- Some media-sharing websites (such as flickr.com)

- Anti-Islamic websites

- Websites criticizing the United Arab Emirates (uaeprison.com, hetq.am, and arabtimes.com
Anonymous proxy sites (such as vtunnel, pzeg etc, ) - perhaps we might have the Nigerian version undecided

- LGBT websites (such as Gaydar, Mogenic etc.)

- Numerical IP address links (for example, http://255.255.255.255/)

There are claims that Etisalat breaks the rules of net neutrality by throttling peer-to-peer, gaming and other types of network traffic in order to reduce the load on its oversubscribed international links. The effect of this interference is most noticeable during weekends or periods of high network use.

The overall efficiency of the country-wide content filtering is unclear, as many of the technologically savvy users have discovered tools and methods to bypass the content filter.
