Post dated Following last Saturday's 6-0 win over Manchester City, Avram Grant has been presented with an award for Performance of the Week, by the League Managers' Association. The LMA panel, which comprises Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Dave Bassett, Joe Royle and Barry Fry were in agreement that our victory against Sven Goran Eriksson's side at Stamford Bridge was the most impressive of the past week, and so chose to award the specially engraved crystal football to Grant.

With the top two playing each other, Liverpool away at Blackburn and Manchester City hosting Sunderland, there is the opportunity to close some gaps that should not be missed. More interestingly, after that clash, Arsenal play four of their next five league games away from home, then face Chelsea at the Emirates on December 16. The Gunners have dropped points each time they've played outside of London so far. WIGAN ATHLETIC V CHELSEA - Didier Drogba is due to make his 100th Premier League appearance for the club. In his 99 games to date, including 22 as a substitute, he has scored 46 goals none of which were penalties .Since Wigan achieved promotion to the top flight in 2005 they have lost all 18 Premier League games against the 'big four' clubs.Athletic are hoping to avoid a sixth successive defeat. Since two home wins in August, Chris Hutchings's side have taken two points from a possible 24. They have not won in nine in all competitions losing seven of them. It is their worst league run since they lost eight in a row in December 2006 and January 2007. Chelsea are aiming for a fifth successive away victory. Wins at Hull, Valencia, Bolton and Middlesbrough followed our last defeat in Avram Grant's first game in charge against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Blues have gained the same number of points (21) as we did against the same teams in the corresponding games last season. Wigan's home league record this season is won two (Middlesbrough 1-0, Sunderland 3-0), lost two (Liverpool 0-1, Portsmouth 0-2,) and drawn one (Fulham 1-1). Chelsea on the road have won at Reading, Bolton and Middlesbrough, drawn at Liverpool and ![]()
