Senator Dino was not present on the day the President presented the budget to the Joint parliamentary session. https://all-gists..com/2019/01/deji-adeyanju-nigerians-reacts-at-shehu-sani-for-defending-dino-melaye.html

Akpabio, who is also a former governor of Akwa Ibom, gave the advice in an interview with NAN on Sunday. “Nigerians should ensure that they elect good and committed leaders at all elections, and stop expecting patronage in terms of appointments or contracts,” he said. “Good governance and delivery of critical infrastructure are the best reward system that any leadership can give the citizenry, and any leader that does these deserves mass support.” Akpabio urged politicians to run decent campaigns and stop politicising tragedies as the elections approach. He said Nigeria’s unity is more important than politics and urged that “Nigerian politicians should learn to run decent campaigns and try to shy away from issues that can generate violence or further polarise our country as we approach the elections. “They should stop jubilation whenever we experience set back in the war against insurgency, it is a collective responsibility to ensure that Nigeria is safe and we should all show commitment to that cause. “The reason why we are contesting for political leadership in the first place is because there is a country called Nigeria; if Nigeria stops to exist today, our politics will become useless.” Akpabio advised politicians to see the advantage in the size and diversity of the country. “The reason why we are respected across the world is because of our population and our diverse ethnic configuration,” he said. “Politicians are supposed to use these factors to further engender peace and unity in the country, instead of creating hatred and enmity amongst their followers.” The senator defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in August 2018. https://all-gists..com/2019/01/stop-expecting-appointments-contracts-as-reward-for-voting-akpabio-to-nigerians.html |

https://i1.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2018/01/Speaker-Yakubu-Dogara-5.jpg?fit=860%2C600&ssl=1 Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has urged Nigerians not to despair, but look to the future with optimism and absolute faith in the Almighty God as the country moves into 2019. In a new year message, Speaker Dogara acknowledged that 2018 was characterised by unprecedented spate of needless killings, decline in the nation’s economy, unemployment, general insecurity and other acts of lawlessness due to poor governance but is persuaded that 2019 offers Nigerians a unique opportunity to renew their faith and hope in God and the country, as well as take full control of their destiny. Noting the importance of the next few weeks preceding the general elections, Hon Dogara challenged Nigerians to be patriotic and committed to their civic responsibility by turning out enmasse to elect leaders that will be sensitive to their yearnings and aspirations, provide the requisite security for their lives and properties. The speaker said, “The year 2019 presents a unique opportunity for us to take full control of our nation and our destiny. It is also time for us to take responsibility for our own lives, rekindle the spirit of community and strive towards making Nigeria work again in all its ramifications. “A democratic government should always depend on its citizens to whom power belongs as the reverse will only amount to slavery. Hence, we must continue to demonstrate patriotism, cooperation, dedication and resilience in order to overcome our challenges and triumph over the forces of retrogression. ” As the 2019 general elections draw close, I enjoin us all to remain vigilant against anti democratic forces and remain committed to enthroning a government that is sensitive to our yearnings and aspirations. “On our part as lawmakers, we shall continue to work as the central institution of democracy through which the will of the people is expressed, especially as the nation approaches very trying times yet. “On behalf of the leadership and the entire members of the House of Representatives, I wish all Nigerians a happy and prosperous New Year even as I pray that God Almighty will lift our nation to greater heights in the New Year.” https://all-gists..com/2019/01/new-year-message-dont-despair-god-is-still-in-charge-dogara-tells-nigerians.html |
Happy New Year.... Nairalanders |
https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/buhari-speaks1.jpg President Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed Nigerians into the New Year. Buhari assured Nigerians that the year 2019 will be significant for the country. Full text below: “ It is my utmost pleasure to rejoice with all Nigerians as we enter the year 2019, which will be a very significant one for our country. 2. At the turn of every year, we often use the opportunity to look back at the past and forward to the future. To review the outgoing year, its high and low points, successes and failures, and be fully thankful to God. 3. We Nigerians are a religious people, and we believe that God reigns and rules in the affairs of men. A time like this offers precious opportunity for thanksgiving, stock taking and reflection on goals and targets set for the receding year, and how much was accomplished. The ones not done can then be rolled over into a new year. 4. The dawn of a New Year is also a time to look forward. To consider new prospects, unfold our plans, and prepare for landmark dates and events. 5. 2019 will be an election year for us. In about two months, the polls are due, and we will elect leaders into various offices, at national and state levels. 6. As I welcome you into 2019, I also reiterate my many promises and declarations that the general elections will be free, fair and credible. 7. Elections need not be do or die affair, and we should not approach that eventuality in a democracy with trepidation and mortal fear. Happily, a large number of presidential candidates have committed to peace, and peace we shall have. 8. Those who continue to trumpet falsehood and negativity are on their own, fighting a losing battle. The greater number of Nigerians are trusting and believing that we shall deliver on our promises for a level playing field at the polls, and that is what we shall do. 9. Nigerians desire peace, security, prosperity, inclusiveness and infrastructural development, a nation they can be proud of, a country that can hold its own among the nations. 10. That is the journey we have embarked on since we came onboard in 2015, and we are not distracted as we move on. We are resolved to build a country in which the resources are utilized for the benefit of the largest number, and not appropriated by a privileged few in their never ending quest to satisfy their greed. We are on this mission together, and I assure you of a firm commitment to the ideals of a safe, secure, fair, just and prosperous country. 11. We have had our challenges: security, economic, political, social. But we are resolved to combat and overcome them all. 12. I appreciate your support and collaboration in previous years, and look forward to same in 2019, and beyond, as I hope you will renew the mandate you overwhelmingly gave us in 2015, for another term. 13. We are motivated by nothing other than service to motherland, and service without selfishness or personal interest. 14. I can assure you all that we are making steady and sustainable progress in all areas of national life. Those who are unbiased can see and appreciate the progress the country has made since 2015. 14. A New Year provides opportunity for renewal of commitment, and I invite you to rededicate yourselves to the vision of a Nigeria that works for all. 15. We are moving from potentials to actualization, and it’s a task to be accomplished by us all; man, woman, young, old, military, civilian, all Nigerians. Please come along, as we journey to the land of our dreams. Happy 2019. 17. Thank you and God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. https://all-gists..com/2018/12/2019-full-text-of-buharis-new-year-message-to-nigerians.html |
https://f5p3e9e4.stackpathcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Ribadu-Buhari-Cars2.jpg Nuhu Ribadu, pioneer chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has handed over his campaign offices and buses to the reelection bid of President Muhammadu Buhari. Ribadu who sought and lost the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2019 poll, said the opponents of Buhari will be “roundly defeated”. He said the February presidential election is a referendum between a past that should forever be forgotten and a new chapter of probity and accountability. He spoke in Yola, Adamawa capital, at a ceremony to hands off his gubernatorial campaign structure to Buhari. He said he and his supporters would work assiduously to ensure the victory of Buhari in Adamawa. “There is consensus among Nigerians of goodwill. Nobody wants return of those faces that are synonymous with our failure as a country. We have moved on, we should not allow them to dragged us back,” he said. “For the past three years, EFCC and others have been struggling to recover wealth stolen from this country within just a few years. We are happy now that such wanton stealing is not happening. We should not allow those who have no problem with stealing our wealth to get back on the wheels.” He said the people of Adamawa have no reason not to support Buhari due to a number of achievements of the administration. “This state is a farming state. Our farmers have been supported through Anchor Borrowers. We now have fertilizer all over,” he said. “In terms of infrastructure, Adamawa is witnessing massive revolution. A number of roads are currently ongoing in the state. We have never had it so good. “Many communities in Adamawa state were under Boko Haram occupation. The capital, Yola, was being threatened but today everyone is at peace, all displaced persons have been relocated to their towns.” https://all-gists..com/2018/12/efcc-pioneer-chairman-ribadu-donates-offices-campaign-buses-to-buhari.html https://f5p3e9e4.stackpathcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Ribadu-Buhari-Cars3-653x365.jpg |

He challenged those that have accused him of corruption to make their case known before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Atiku disclosed this in an interview with the Voice of America’s correspondent Aliyu Mustapha. According to Atiku, “I have challenged everybody publicly or otherwise, that if you have any evidence of corruption against me while I was in public office or as a politician, feel free to go to EFCC or the court, but nobody has come”. https://i0.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2016/05/Atiku-and-Buhari.jpg?fit=800%2C479&ssl=1 The Coalition of United Political Parties on Sunday called for mental health tests for President Muhammadu Buhari; former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and all other candidates contesting the 2019 presidential election. It said the test should be conducted by an independent team of experts in mental health issues. The coalition’s demand was contained in a statement by its first national spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere. Ugochinyere said the test was necessary in order to ascertain the presidential candidates’ mental stability before elections, “so that any person who does not pass the examination should not be allowed to participate in the election.” He said the CUPP had secured the assurances of Atiku, who is contesting the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, to subject himself to the medical test in the general interest of Nigeria. He urged Buhari to speak more to Nigerians and Nigerian journalists, especially through presidential media chat. He added, “CUPP also calls on President Buhari to face the Nigerian media and stop holding them in disdain as they are professionals and are renowned world over for their expertise. “How could a President not speak to any Nigerian media house or journalist for over three years? “How could a President hold his entire country’s media and citizens in such disdain that he speaks to them only through a crowd of spokespersons? “Nigerians want to know the identities of the persons that write his speeches, their ideologies and their stake in the Nigerian project because, many a time, the President reads speeches that are not in tune with reality, as he did during the presentation of budget 2019 and was rightly booed by lawmakers. “This medical examination is very necessary and all Nigerians of goodwill should join this call for the unveiling of the real facts behind this façade presented to Nigerians.” https://all-gists..com/2018/12/let-buhari-atiku-others-undergo-mental-tests-before-elections-cupp.html |

In a letter to the Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, read by the governor at the event, the President stated: “I received the very sad news of the passing away of Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “This, indeed, is a grievous loss, which will be felt throughout Nigeria, irrespective of any difference. The late Alhaji Shagari was a landmark figure being virtually our last link to the post-independence government of Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa , and the first elected Executive President of Nigeria. “Please convey to his immediate family, the government and the people of Sokoto State my heartfelt condolences on the passing away of this great statesman. “The Federal Government will in due course institute a suitable memorial to the late former President. “May his soul rest in peace,” the statement read. https://cdn.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/09205005/Uche-Secondus5.jpg The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, said in Abuja on Friday that it was wrong for President Muhammadu Buhari to launch his second-term bid when he had yet to visit Zamfara State where hundreds of people were killed by bandits. Secondus said the people of Zamafara State and Nigerians were expecting the President to put politics aside and find solutions to what he called “unmitigated killings in the state” and some parts of northern Nigeria. He likened the actions of the President and that of the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to “dancing on the graves of innocent Nigerians who elected him in 2015 and have now been killed by bandits because the government they elected refused to protect them.” He added, “It is sad watching the President speak today (Friday) in Akwa Ibom State, when the people of Zamfara State and other states, especially from the North-West and North-Central, even in the North-East, are crying for help. “These are people who lined up in the sun about four years ago, thinking that President Buhari would be a father to them all. “Now they cannot go to their farms and their homes had been taken over by bandits. Yet, their father, the President, was busy dancing and giving out fake promises again.” https://all-gists..com/2018/12/its-insensitive-for-buhari-to-launch-campaign-without-visiting-zamfara-secondus.html |
