The post read: “Oduduwa Nation Security Force, Code Name: Operation Paramole. Awọn ẹṣọ oludaabo ilẹ Ooduwa (Security personnel for Yorubaland). God bless our land. Yoruba Nation Warriors, Ogun State Chapter. This is the first batch from Ogun State.”

SaharaReporters earlier reported how Yoruba Historian, Banji Akintoye, alongside freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, declared the sovereignty of the Yoruba nation recently.

Akintoye and Igboho, among other Yoruba leaders stated that the Yoruba nation can be independent and yet, thrive.

He urged all Yoruba patriots to work together for the independence of the Yoruba nation, urging the young ones not to involve violence but peaceful deliberations.

“We have declared that sovereignty now but we must work together. We have just talked about what the Yoruba nation is suffering in Nigeria. There should be no reason why we cannot all work together to extricate ourselves from this rubble that Nigeria has become.

“My advice to young people is to gather together, speak to leaders hesitating about Nigeria, there is no reason for any Yoruba person to be talking about restructuring or a new constitution or resource control, the game is up, we have seen enough of Nigeria, we have decided our status in the world today, we have moved forward, let us move smoothly without any violence, don't fight anyone. There should be no war, we are going to have a separate Yoruba conference very soon,” Akintoye had said.

Igboho also said the South-West states were no longer under Nigeria.

He urged Yoruba people living in other parts of the country to return to the South-West.

He said, “We are ready to challenge a country that has nothing for the Yoruba people, we are taking back our territory. This country is finished, we don't want Nigeria again, we want the Yoruba nation, we don't fear anybody, we fear only God, enough is enough.

“Fulanis are cheating us, they rape our women, make videos of that so we can see. The Benin Republic is not up to Osun State, and they are living in peace, there is security. Yoruba citizens are going to work as maids there, some of our people are even sent back when they don't have their papers. When some of us here were little, Ghanaians come here to work as cobblers, but now, Yorubas are asked to leave

“No Yoruba person holds a major political position in Nigeria, this is the 14th year a Yoruba man was the Inspector-General of Police, no Yoruba man was ever a Chief of Army Staff, no Yoruba has been in that position. Hausa Fulani heads everything, instead, they gave us the position of Vice President that cannot make any major decision.

“All Yoruba citizens are in support of our move to secede, Banji Akintoye, Afenifere, the Yorubas know about it, any of them that says he is not in support should make a video and refute this claim.

“If we learn that a soldier or police touches one of us, there will be trouble, we don't want Fulani herdsmen, they should go their way. From tomorrow, we will go from place to place and sensitize people about security, we won't see Fulani again.

“These herdsmen go about to destroy our crops and then end up selling food to us, is that not slavery? The average Seriki Fulani palace is bigger than that of a Yoruba king. We thank the Olubadan for disempowering a Seriki Fulani and placed him under a Baale. What the Fulanis do here, no Yoruba citizen can do such in the North. Why are we slaves in our land?

“There are Yorubas in different countries of the world. We plead with the United Nations to separate us from Nigeria before it turns to war, if they don't come, it will be worse than this. As it stands now, we are no longer Nigeria, we are no longer under dictatorial government, we sleep in fear, eat in fear, are we slaves?

“Some say Yoruba people are not united, we are! If you want to try us, touch one of us. Any king that says he is not with us, should make a video and make his claim. Yoruba citizens in Hausa land, come back homes this suffering is enough.”

Again, gunmen raze Imo police divisional headquarters, free suspects

Chidiebube Okeoma
20 March 2021

Gunmen on Saturday night razed the Isiala Mbano Divisional Headquarters located at Umuelemai in Imo State.

The gunmen, who freed suspects held in the detention facility, invaded the divisional headquarters armoury and carted away arms.

Our correspondent gathered that gunmen on arrival condoned off the Divisional Headquarters located at Umueze Road and opened fire.

According to eyewitnesses, on arrival, the suspects sacked policemen on duty, freed suspects, invaded the arms storage department of the facility before setting it ablaze.

While our correspondent had yet to confirm if any life was lost, our correspondent gathered that four policemen allegedly sustained gunshot injuries from the Invaders.

Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen did not flee as they stayed by and supervised the burning of the police facility.

The source, who does not want his name in print said, “The gunmen came, condoned off the divisional headquarters and immediately opened fire on the policemen on duty. This was after they had freed all the suspects and collected all the arms. Afterwards, they set it ablaze. This is very unfortunate.”

The Interim Management Committee chairman of Isiala Mbano LGA, Chika Okoroike, who also confirmed the attack when contacted by The PUNCH, said that rescue mission was being facilitated by him.

He blamed the removal of soldiers from Anara town 24 hours before the attack.

Okoroike, said that he made fervent moves to make sure that the military men who were posted out of Anara town on Friday without any reason were returned but all to no avail.

The police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, also confirmed the attack on the division when contacted by The PUNCH.

The PUNCH reports that this is the fourth police divisional headquarters that had been attacked since February after Obowo, Aboh Mbaise and Ihitte/Uboma divisions were attacked, respectively.

By Nwanosike Onu, Awka

Another number of policemen have been feared killed by gunmen in Ekwulobia Aguata local government area of Anambra State.

But the attempt to set the police station ablaze was repelled by the policemen on duty at 4am on Friday.

The attack came barely 12 hours after the hoodlums killed some policemen at Neni and three naval ratings at Awkuzu on Thursday evening in a similar style.

The attack on Ekwulobia Station was confirmed to THE NATION by Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu

However, he said efforts to burn down the rebuilt police station by the hoodlums were repelled by the gallant men on duty.

On the number of policemen killed by the assailants, he said nobody was sure if there were any killings, adding Command was still expecting further reports.

The NATION gathered the suspected gunmen were allegedly members of the newly formed Eastern Security Network (ESN) powered by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

TIMELINE: 10 police officers killed, six stations razed in two weeks
The attacks on the police occurred in the South-east and South-south regions between February 23 and March 9.

At least 10 police officers were killed and six police stations razed in two regions of Nigeria within a two-week period, a PREMIUM TIMES review of newspaper and police reports shows.

The attacks occurred in the South-east and South-south regions between February 23 and March 9.

The separate attacks, which are yet to be proven to be related, occurred in seven states with Cross River and Imo witnessing the largest number of incidents.

The most recent incident occurred on March 9 when gunmen attacked a police station and burnt vehicles in Imo State.

The motive behind the attacks is unclear, for now. Also, there is no evidence that the attacks are related although some suspects were arrested after a few of the attacks.

Police spokesperson Frank Mba did not respond to several calls and messages seeking comment on the attacks.

The police on its Twitter page, however, tagged the perpetrators of one of the “unprovoked” attacks as “hoodlums,” saying they were about 200 people armed with AK47 rifles and machetes.

“Dire consequences await any person or group of persons who, under whatever guise, engages in an unwarranted attack on any public property and directs all Command CPs to employ all legally permissible measures to protect lives and property,” the police said while announcing the arrest of some suspects.

Also, Irene Ugbo, police spokesperson in Cross River told PREMIUM TIMES that “the information we got was that during the operation (attack by the gunmen), the bad boys would shout one particular thing – IPOB and all that.”

When asked if she thought these were coordinated attacks on the police in Cross River State, she said, “We wouldn’t know what these people want because some days ago some of our men were killed in Calabar, and now this one is happening. I think it’s a planned thing, they are up to something which we need to tackle quickly.”

If the deadly attacks on the Nigerian police continue, security experts believe, it could complicate the already deteriorating security situation in the country.

“There’s a lack of trust between the police and the general public before now,” said a security expert, Timothy Avele. “These new attacks will only widen the gap and lack of trust even more and that will not be good especially for the public in terms of police swift response to criminals activities and how cases are handled.”

He also believes that if the police allow this to dampen their operational spirit, they will lose the ability to source intelligence from the public.

“The solution rests with the police to restore and rebuild the trust between them and the public. After all, they’re working and being paid by the public in the real sense,” Mr Avele said.

Meanwhile, Yakubu Uwaidem, a resident of Akwa Ibom, expressed worry over the attacks, saying security should be every person’s business.

“Regardless of what some of them are doing that is relatively abnormal; (it) doesn’t warrant citizens to go far destroying police facilities,” Mr Uwaidem said.

He added that the police risk their lives to protect Nigerians.

The attacks on police personnel and facilities occur despite Nigeria grappling with several security crises, including a decade-long Boko Haram insurgency in the North-east, banditry in many northern states, as well as kidnappings and perennial clashes between herders and farmers in several parts of the country.

Below is the timeline of the recent attacks on police personnel and facilities.
TIMELINE

February 23 – Two police officers reportedly lost their lives when some unknown gunmen attacked a police station in Aba, Abia State.

February 24 – Hoodlums killed a police officer and razed down a patrol vehicle in Ekwulobia in Anambra State.

February 25 – Four police officers were killed at MCC in Calabar, Cross River state by gunmen.

February 26 – Gunmen razed a police station in Imo State, Nigeria’s South-east, the station that was just renovated after being razed down by hoodlums during the #ENDSARS protests.

March 1 – Some gunmen attacked a police station in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and by daylight another attack reportedly occurred at the Iboko Divisional Police Station in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Nigeria’s South-east.

March 9 – Gunmen attacked a police station in Imo State and burnt several vehicle.
