jabolo: N3xt/Brabus, with great influence comes great responsibility lol.
You should be savvy enough to Google image search those pictures.
So, giving honest feedback on multicolour interiordezine ... I worked with her. I spent millions. The outcome was crap but, more importantly, it was a very dispiriting experience not just for me, but for my family.
Not recommended at all.
Sorry for your experience.
99% of successful project is all about supervision and management.
Certificates nor ratings or reviews isn’t a guarantee you’d get a good job. You must have someone with an eye for detail and great experience managing similar project to oversee all work.
Once again, I feel bad hearing about your experience.
BuildingProject: Have you worked with @multicolour interiordezine before?
I’m just checking out her thread. Going by what I’m seeing here, I don’t need anyone’s approval to work with a professional interior designer like this.
She’s got great taste and style and her style doesn’t look like she’s imposing. I’m not worried she can only deliver certain look.
I saw these stuffs in her portfolio and I really liked them.
_______
This is coming from a product of Sheffield School of Interior Design (now New York Institute of Art and Design)
BuildingProject: At no cost ké!! Lai lai. He won't agree. That is the reason I want to know if he is needed for the interior of not. Left to me. Have told him he is not needed after the roofing. It's not like we go shift bedroom to sitting room room náà. And he won't be going there for free.
Unless you have a life and death contract with him, he’s done when you say you’re done.
So if I can get an interior decorator that doesn't require much supervision like that.
I believe this shouldn’t be an issue. Invite few pros, give them your brief and let them send in their proposals. Award the job to the man with the best bid.
Have you worked with @multicolour interiordezine before?
No! But I can work with ANYONE when it comes to interiors designs even my mukailas
BuildingProject: He is to supervise till the roofing is done. Of which we're at the stage now. But he is telling me he needs to be involved in the interior design as well. And I told him that is not part of his jurisdiction but he is insisting I still need to keep him for supervising interior design and decorations.
So. Do I med his service on such decisions after giving the contract to those in such field?
Since he’s insisting that you still need to keep him, I’d suggest you keep him at no cost to you as a consultant on the project while dealing directly with the tradespeople involved in the finishing stage.
I try as much as possible to eliminate a middleman arrangement during my finishing stage except where my client specifically request for my service.
DUNKA: Well done project moving well. Please what are your thoughts on window louvres? Not the cheap quality ones normally seen but high-grade quality ones.
Have you had a client that wanted them and how was it sourced?
Regards
I’ve tried sourcing this sometimes ago and I was directed to a man in Gate, Ibadan.
I’m sure sourcing high-grade louvres won’t be an issue it’s a nice concept in contemporary builds.
Horlardorjah: we are saying the same thing here, you know what your clients can afford and you give it to them n beside it will work for your design and client can afford the maintenance.
in terms of cost for the steel roof, how many client can afford it and how easy will it be to convince a client that doesn't have the exposure/knowledge and under strict/tight budget.
if your client can afford all the finishes you've showcased in here, cost for steel roof can never be an issue n either steel or wood, both will serve same function if well done
aside that, how much did you charge for your design? I'm sure it's not in the range of a hundred-two? so tell me how you won't go extra mile with your design Sir.
My cheapest drawing even in 2012 is 150k. I’m sure I never paid ihebrooke anything less than 150k for a complete drawing.
Today, a complete package start from avertage of 300k + but if we are the builder, we can go down a bit. There are drawing I do for as much as N1m + and above. We give it everything.
Will I review a 50k drawing 10 times when I’m not doing charity?
Likewise, do all client know the difference between a zigzag staircase and floating/slabless staircase?
For me, I interface between my client and my architect to get a functional house.
I once shared here a drawing done by a leading architect in one of the most popular estate in Sangotedo Lagos. It pure crap and I had to redesign 3 of his works. The projects are here on nairaland and the clients can attest to this.
Horlardorjah: exactly, most clients and most especially the ones @brabus has knows what they want already so he need not start taking them through the process n the rigor of convincing them to if your client gives you open check n flexibility over his build, many architects out there will give you more than all these. so it boils down to clients purse/ exposure n say some other factors. if @brabus architect thinks he's crazy for his design, then your architect needs to up his/her game
My client didn’t ask for an atrium. I gave it to him because of functionality.
If my client send me a design and I’m free I build it. If he asks me for a design, Ill give him what works best in his environment and situation.
I'll share some of the questions we ask when designing a house on kobocity.com to know it’s not always the clients that decides our design.
I’m doing a steel roof on my build. It wasn’t the client decision but ours.
rotecch77: I understand you clearly, you see all still boiled down to client 1st brief, you can’t design without client brief, it’s after the briefs you now advise and come out with fantastic concept that will suit the client.
In every part of the work each area have there own type of structure that fit in there environment not that they can’t design American structure here. That remained me of a gate see through design I fabricated for a client, the client said Ogbeni pls change the gate to fully covered one. And the same concept was designed for another client and he love it. How many people here in Nigeria will go for plane glass ( see through) for there bedroom or there sittingroom, they are just few.
Those that means Nigeria architect doesn’t know how to do this?
I get your point.
What’s contemporary to some folk is traditional to another. All the same, everything is a house.
A major distributor in my area explained to me that when Dangote started his refinery project he withdrew almost all his money from cement replacing it by distributors' shares. Hundreds of them gave him N1.7bn each making it possible for him to divert his money from the cement to the refinery.
So, having secured the major source of cement the distributors first started by creating artificial scarcity then followed by the insane hike.
Dangote seems powerless because he cant refund them all their money at this stage to enable him sanction/not to sell to them.
The other government regulators who should protect the consumer are incompetent and compromised.
The best solution to me is to boycott Dangote cement. Or at least go on strike.
Let me ask you sir. If you buy cement at N3000, can anyone whether Dangote or Bihari tell you to sell at N3,000?
Everything boiled down to client choice. The client is the one to give primary info before architect design such. Our naija arch can design this perfectly ok , let’s forget jor ...olohun nothing hard In designing.
What matters is choice of client and location,
Most clients don’t know what they want until they see it.
That’s why most homeowners are not really happy with their finished build (especially here in Naija).
It’s the job of the professionals to bring their dreams into reality.
Anyone can draw but conceptualization is always the issue. A lot of Nigerian architects are so impatient and are always after money that they care less about clients satisfaction.
I do review my drawings more than 10 times in some occasion. I mean redrawing or having to come up with a new concept entirely just to meet a clients need.
_____
Nigerian architects can do traditional stuffs. No doubt about it. But when it comes to designing to International standard, there are very few who fit into that class (let’s use nairaland architects as a yardstick for now). I doubt we will count a dozen.
_____
When I see some drawings, I always smile. I’m currently looking at one and I’m like “an architect draw this?” And he didn’t know the staircase won’t work.
In few days, the builder will be tearing down a wall because the staircase can’t work and up till moment they all don’t know it yet.
Fingers crossed.
_______
Again, anyone can draw. Only very few can come up with a great concept. That’s why there are not too many Frank Lloyd and Zaha Hadids in this world.
EgunMogaji2: I’m trying to entice one of my old building crew to spend some months in Nigeria. They live and work in the USA but they’re Mexicans and South Americans. It’ll be like a working vacation.
Trying to line up work for them from diasporans who are fed up with low quality work.
I need to figure out immigration requirements too.
It’s always a huge challenge for most architects I’ve worked with understanding some of my concepts and why we do what we do.
Some of the naija designs are just tooo “old school”
_____
I’m really wishing my friend JB of Sentric Designs will be available in one of my builds to do real interior finishing that’s not just white bland wall and POPs.
NextHome and Sentric Designs UK (now London Building Contractors) went into partnership in 2015
My architect thought I was mad when I told him don’t gimme that naija window style. Eliminate the conventional lintels on this build. House no go fall
I think these guys stole my idea
______
With this window style, my client would never have to worry about where to place bed in a square room and I’m always ready to defend any of my designs myself.
I’m not sorry I’m not building to naija archaic code.
______
Naija architects with few exceptions need to up their game.
Naijapal: I've always maintained that the government is to blame in all of this whether dangote or retailers raise the price too much. We have a body saddled with the responsibility of protecting consumers. What is the function of consumer protection council (CPC)?
My partner issa oyinbo man.
What’s the function of Ministry of Water Resources? Almost 95% of every new house built by Nigerians had a well and we have a ministry that’s meant to provide ALL Nigerians portable water.
Yet they prepare and get budgetary allocation for it every year since independence.
EgunMogaji2: I'll be reading with glee. You see my concern is the maintenance. But that is my MaiGuards own to deal with I guess. Someone will have to get up there to clean the drains.
There’s practically nothing to maintain if the installation is right.
