We're supposed to wait just to learn that a cutting tool will be used as opposed to chisel and hammer?
Because i can only imagine how laborious that would be in the absence of something like a chaser as suggested by msogunro
wink

You just know say I like movies. The bricks can be cut with hole saw and filing machine (the same type used for cutting concretes, slabs and tiles).

However isn't it better to see it life in action as shown in msogunro's video than just trying to figure it out.

Watch out for that part in Episode 80 grin

This is quite lovely. Particularly for exterior walls.

But i see a challenge with electrical and plumbing conduiting.
How do you plan to go about this?
The installation of the conduits will be carried out in a week time. I promise to share it here. The lintels are precasted.

I believe it won't be a long wait.

With the current rate of sharp sand being about 60k for what is essentially a 12.5 tonne truck.

Is there any research that allows the use of mias as an alternative. Most block makers in ogun and closely linked lagos neighbourhoods use this sand for block making in place of sharp sand. Mias looks to me to be crushed gravel.
No one will teach us to do the alternatives. In times like this I'll favour brick construction over traditional cement and concrete construction

I'll show pics of ongoing brick house construction in Badore, Lagos. I call it "The Change"

Based on your experience, which company in Lagos will you recommend to someone like me when looking to purchase original electrical parts and other building materials like rods? Also what are some tests that I can carry out that would help me tell the difference between quality and fake especially when it comes down to iron rods and blinding wires.

Also for areas in Lagos closer to the ocean ( Ekpe and ibeju environs) with low water table, should considerations be taken as regards to the materials content of iron rods being used for raft foundations? As regards to corrosion
Oga, you need to take extra care in Ibeju axis especially if you're closer to the Okun side. Unprotected iron rods corrodes faster than you can ever imagine in that area.

The iron rod in the pic below is just 3 days old.

Thank you for sharing. Your gate at the Chateau looks great!

This makes me feel a bit better about the idea. I would like the lock mechanism to be welded inside the panels of the gates so that only the key hole is visible. I wish I would have taken a picture of an entry door that I saw with this set-up. I hope it can be done with gates.
It's possible with gates. The same welder made my kitchen security door below. I don't have full pics of the kitchen door though.

You just need to work with creative guys who will not tell you "it's impossible"

Pad Lock vs. Double Cylinder Deadbolt Lock

So, I'm still at the fencing and gate stage and would like the houses opinion on the locks to use.

I hate fumbling with padlocks at the pedestrian and car gates. Has anyone used double cylinder deadbolt locks for both of those entry points?

I know these locks are readily available.
I've only done this setup before (openable from one side only). The gate only open from inside using the deadbolt lock or mechanically using the Automatic Gate Operator remote.

If the gate is opened, someone with a key must have opened it. I really don't have to worry about lock picking or padlock breaking cos it's really a hardnut to crack.

@Hajj you can see that price of cables is not rriendly these days. People building houses these days believe that services(like Electrical, plumbing and AC) are just minor thing when it comes to building construction. The price I sent to you through whatsapp is still lower than the ones posted above because more discount is given to their major distributor. Price of cables increase almost every month in Nigeria now. God help Nigeria

Truth be told no man building a house (something i for one consider a huge investment) would want to go with choices that he or she knows will fail. All lot of people in Nigeria have no clue what standards are (to be honest). The only reason i know is because of my current position and location. When most people in Nigeria talk about piping it is like "abeg plumber by me 1" rubber pipe."

For those overseas you can tell that for every stage of a house a city inspector will always come by to inspect your built and materials before progressing to the next stage.

Not until we have government agency that are ready to work and enforce these standards and possibly educate more people, we will continue to see these and local manufacturing companies cutting corners to make profit.

Thanks
It's easier for a camel to pass through a needle hole than for the bolded part above to happen in Nigeria.

The little things that matters are always the hardest thing to do here.

In developed countries where things work, houses are built to design codes but in Naija, our houses are built to "what-me-think-is-fair?"

You just made remembered pipe network analysis.
Water demand is not a factor that reduce pressure head. Water demand will affect your storage capacity
Water demand in busy morning and evening will always affect water pressure.

One easiest way to find this out is to try and run the bath and kitchen tap and the garden hose simultaneously.

Turning off the kitchen and bath tap; try to fill up a 5 litre gallon from the garden house. It should take 30 seconds to fill up the gallon.

Now, open the kitchen and all bathroom taps and the garden house tap and try to fill up the same 5 litre gallon, you'll observe that it'll take a longer time.

Running multiple taps at the same time is synonymous to having a leak in your pipe network. The leak will reduce the flow rate just as the opened taps.

how about if this pump is put just before your shower and it supplies just your shower?, cos in my house where Im typing from that seem to be the case
This discussion is something that needs to be well understood.

Most of the times, low pressure issues is always caused by using wrong fittings. Some people will buy the most cheapest tap (even though it's rated high pressure) when they actually require something different to support their water system requirement.

A lot of factors attributes to low water pressure in a house.

1. Length of pipes
2. Water demand
3. Height of the water tank
4. Pipe/Tap rating (low pressure or high pressure). These pipes and Taps are different but who cares.
5. Diameter of supply pipes
6. The water distribution system design. Just like network design, your pipe network is critical to flow rate. The travel distance is also something not to overlook.

So putting a booster will work in a situation where critical planning has not been put in place. For me, I'll try to avoid the use of those boosters and work more on an effective design.

@ battleaxe. follow ice4u999 advice. But before you do anything the first step is Raising the height of your tank. If its ontop of the building, take it out and use a tank stand. if you already have a tank stand, you can increase the height or redo a new one. without that, no other process should come first, every other process must follow the tank height process, or others will be a waste of time.

As for pump, do not even go there, because the moment you have a single leakage, there is no going back except to re pipe, and i guess you know what that means
You just can't stop making sense. @ OP, Raise your tank! You really don't want to see a flooded house due to leakage caused by leaking pipes.

As for pumps, boosters etc, no be everything dey work as rated o. I have this stuffs and I can tell you how disappointing it is with all the amount invested. They should work in places where there's quality assurance. I mean your pipes, fittings/faucets are built to standard specs and not here where anything goes (pipe is pipe).

ice4u999:
First, you want to install a booster pump to supply water to home at a certain pressure. What are the things to consider: you need to know what you would want your end pressure to be, knowing your end pressure would enable you ask yourself if your PVC piping is rated for sure pressure.

As we all know not all PVC piping are rated properly and most of our local plumbers heat the female end of a PVC pipe of the same size to expand it and then insert male end of another PVC pipe with glue instead of using the proper fitting. That is a problem right there because that end or joint can easily fail under pressure.

Now we know about fittings and how some Nigeria product are not usually done to code.

The next issue now is to use a booster pump you will require a constant supply of water to the pump i.e. Your over tank must never I mean never run go dry. Why must your overhead tank never go dry? Because if it does your pump will air lock and also create air gaps in your piping. Air gap in your piping could result to water water hammer within pipe. The negative part to this is that years to come crack will begin to appear at certain joints which will eventually result to failure. Air locking in your pump and line is an easy fix by installing a level control switch in your over head tank.

So my brother it comes down to what is the easiest and cheapest with less headache instead of starting from then beginning it is simply by rising the height of your tank. The tanks simply feed all outlet by gravity. No science to that. And as a brother said increase the pipe diameter from tank which will reduce restriction to the small diameter piping going into the house. At least with this solution you don't have to worry about pipe ratings, strength of the glue your plumber used, the short cuts your pumbler used to keep more money in his pocket and end pressure for various outlets.

But if you still choose to go the route of installing a pressure pump a quick guide to look through for pressure calculation will be 4th class power engineering book. Because this pressure pump work well overseas because they tie in to a city supply main line with constant supply.

thanks
That's it.

What's More? Cable Conveyance

In modern builds, electrical wiring must get from one place to another. As we all know, wires and cables are normally pulled through conduit.

However in complex situations/designs a different approach is adopted. Supporting and pulling wires on 26' high ceiling with over 120m2 unsupported ceiling can only be achieved using Cable Tray system.

Installation of Cable trays and Tray supports upcoming.
