Literature / The Cuckoo's Calling - Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling) Nigerian Factor by na2day(m): 12:36am On Jul 19, 2013
I just finished reading the cuckoo's calling, a book written by the author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling under a pseudonym - Robert Galbraith.
Its quite an engaging read.
There is a Nigerian character named Rochelle Onifade.
To those who have read the book, what do you think of her?

Anyone interested in reading for free?

Jakumo:

You are a phucking genius, Oyb. I can hear Frankie Valley's chorus with that soaring falsetto, as I recover from the serious laughter attack I just suffered.

The resemblance is uncanny. I chit you not. Good one Kongi. You is da man.

Kongi knows that Johnny B. Goode hates the hippo's guts, and will drop her like a bad habit the instant it becomes politicaly expedient to do so.

Divorce the HIPPO already, Johnny B. Goode. We're rooting for ya. We know your mama didn't raise no fools, and we know you will do the right thing. Sho' y'right ha ha ha ha ha

As old Red Foxx used to say to Aunt Esther " Beauty is only skin deep, BUT UGLY IS TO THE BONE" ha ha ha ha

Damn ! A muffuguh could park a couple of 1965 low-rider Chevy Impalas in each of those monstrous nostrils, and still have enough space left over for a couple of dirt-bikes.

Ol boy!
You dey mad o cheesy
Your description left me in stitches cheesy

Sometimes I am amazed at the level of ignorance and id.iocy of some posters on this forum.
What is the essence of the rubbish above?
Is the presidency now a traditonal kingship?
You people need to rid yourselves of these slavery mentality.
This is democracy and not a monarchy!
In a saner clime, when a male or female president, prime minister or a head of government is in charge, the partner does not get publicly involved in the affairs of the state, so as not to whittle down the respect accorded that leader.
I'm sure you are trying to defend the criminal behaviour of your SHAME or is it DAME JONATHAN?
You people are just getting more ridiculous day by day.

greaterlove: . A lot of Nigerians share your view because of the distrust we already have for the government, but if we are really honest I don't think any government could have come up with a better deal. On the quality of job the chiness will do, I for one know the chiness are thinking long term, $3B is a tip of the iceberg of what Nigeria really needs to invest in infrastructure, like someone said in a previous post we need about $200B invested in infrastructure if Nigeria really want to be in the top 20 economies, will they the chiness shot themselves in the leg when there is still a long way to go? I don't think so.

Honestly I love your optimism, but the fact of life requires constant reality check.
One thing about greed is that, one believes one can get away with cheating and the other party is a fool that will constantly fall for the same trick.
Believing china will do the right thing without adequate monitoring and strict protocol is like giving a bulimia patient your pot of soup to prepare and believing all the meats will be intact.

C. whyte:

ok nice point. but i think the chinese will be reasonable enough to make good buildings because if they fail at this, they may never get a second chance.

note: chinese dont make substandard produts. my apple macbook was made in china, bought it since 2008 or so.
like my supplier used to say, Good Money, Good Products.

The apple products you mentioned, I hope you understand the level of thorough monitoring, from designs to quality control that apple company gives their Chinese suppliers and manufacturers?

I'm sure you have seen the apple knock offs that the Chinese companies on their own manufacture?

The question is the same?
Who designs, do the R & D for the materials that will be used for own chinko infrastructures?
And Who monitors ( knowing our people, a little dollars will change hands and our inspectors will look the other way)
I pray these work anyway.
Politics / Re: Will Loans From China Salvage Nigeria's Infrastructural Deficits? by na2day(m): 5:07pm On Jul 13, 2013
The basic questions in all these are not been asked, having it at the back of our minds that corruption is a global disease, you will be suprised that the Chinese are equally as corrupt as Nigerians.
1. How are these projects going to be monitored? Since the Chinese companies are going to receive their money directly from their government. I'm also sure their interest will be protected no matter what.

2. What stops these companies cutting corners and using substandard materials with a lot of cosmetic dressing? We all know china as the home of substandard products, and when it comes to maximising profits, the Chinese are the worst of the lot.

3. What stops them ripping us off as our government has actually sold us off to them?

These are questions begging for answers!

We all want development!
But not the kind that we will pay for with our blood and later realised, we have been ripped off!

Well, he should be mistakenly forced to kneel with his hands tied behind his back, while a pistol is mistakenly shoved into the back of his skull. A mistake of an executioner should mistakenly pull the trigger!
I'm sure, globs of his brain will mistakenly splatter on the floor which is a fitting closure for such a mistake of man!

The Egyptian 2nd revolution has just set a new precedence just like the Tunisian flagged off the domino effect in the arab world.
What happened yesterday will embolden the opposition in Turkey, Iraq and other countries that has an autonomous military institutions.
We may yet see another quasi military coup, in turkey very soon, if the opposition and the people decides to go back to the street.

But as for Nigeria, only in our dreams, there are just too many variables and many sellouts, you will be surprised that the leaders of such mass movement, will sell out the people for a juicy post in NNPC!
And we should not forget our love for life, only a very few will be willing to die for such a cause.

Nigeria has been to countless of corners in this present administration, and the car kept on crashing into them and you guys want us to take the chief pilot seriously?
