What do u expect Israel to say about Iran?
they've been belligerent to each other for years concerning Gaza, and now they heard that Iran is shipping weapons to Nigeria, the kind they've been intercepting before in Gaza!
For your information 107mm artillery rockets are manufactured by China, Iran and Russia, as well as the United States. The rockets can be fired from launchers with multiple rockets, or individually as a mortar.

Documented proof of Iranian complicity in arms smuggling to terrorists
An examination of the munitions seized proves conclusively that the source of the arms was Iran. 107mm artillery rocket found on the Francop (IDF Spokesperson)

On Tuesday (November 3, 2009) a special Israeli naval force detained and boarded the MV Francop, a merchant ship flying the flag of Antigua and destined for the Syrian port of Latakia.

Hidden among the dozens of other containers on board, and disguised as civilian goods, the ship contained a consignment of 36 shipping containers with 500 tons of arms en route via Syria to the Hizbullah terrorist organization in Lebanon. A total of about 9,000 mortar bombs of different types were seized, along with about 3,000 Katyusha artillery rockets, 3,000 recoilless gun shells, 20,000 grenades and over a half million rounds of small arms ammunition.

Iran routinely smuggles weapons to terrorist groups it supports. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards transfer their shipments over air, sea, and land routes, and do not hesitate to make use of civilian carriers, often without their knowledge.

An examination of the munitions seized proves conclusively that the source of the arms was Iran. This is clear both from the shipping documents and the markings on the munitions themselves.

The term 'Katyusha' isn't Iranian in origin. it's Russian.

But it's clear that 107mm artillery rockets aren't meant for election era violence.

I think what MEND or Boko Haram would be more interested in at this point are SAMs or Stinger Anti-aircraft missiles to take out Nigerian choppers.

The rocket for hamas from Iran? https://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/jezebel/2010/10/rhhnycramona52110.gif
For your information Iran does not need to undertake such ludicrous journey of sailing almost round the world to deliver rockets  to gaza that is a stonethrow from them!
They have been shipping rockets and other armaments to Gaza for years through the tunnels under Rafah crossing in Egypt, I tell u, even cars are brought into Gaza through these tunnels!
Another hole through the shameless assertion, is that building materials are part of the contrabands that Israel prohibits from entering Gaza, any ship bringing materials into Gaza can only dock at Ashdod port of Israel, cos Gaza is under a blockade (Remember Mavi Marmara), I can assure u Israel don't collect bribe like our own port workers does especially when their security is at stake, any such vessel going to Gaza must be offloaded at Ashdod and the cargo taken by road into Gaza after thorough inspection!
So, such Ship with building materials (a contraband) going to Gaza is like a ship with a giant bull'seye on it crying SEARCH ME! SEARCH ME!! SEARCH ME!!!
This is just the beginning of the drama, 9ja we hail thee! (Now i beleive that we have cretins leading our security agencies, imagine such bullshit!  angry )

This is getting interesting, Pls, Grab a seat

Nigeria's secret police intercept weapons shipment

Only a fraction of the arsenal was put on display for journalists

A large shipment of weapons has been seized by Nigeria's State Security Service at the port in Lagos city.

The secret police say they intercepted 13 containers, some of which had rocket launchers and grenades and other explosives hidden under tiles.

The authorities have said they cannot say who owned the containers or their intended destination.

But correspondents say the discovery has increased fears of possible violence during next year's elections.

Intelligence agencies say they are still sifting through the weapons and they also included artillery rockets, mortar rounds and rocket launchers.

The BBC's Caroline Duffield in Lagos says the type of weapons described makes this a major departure from previous arms hauls.

Only a small part of the arsenal was shown to the media, she says, but it was enough to worry security experts.

They identified the artillery rockets as Norinco rockets - a type used by the Taliban in Afghanistan - suitable for high-intensity warfare.

Official sources told the BBC the shipment came from Iran.

But the National Security Adviser, Andrew Owoye Azazi, told journalists the authorities were still establishing the origin of the weapons and their intended destination.

"At this point, the only thing we can say is that we have some armaments we have discovered at the port, Let's not jump to conclusions," Mr Azazi said.

Officials told the BBC there had been some arrests, but gave no further details.
Security fears

https://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/49682000/jpg/_49682885_010504548-1.jpg

Security has been stepped up in Lagos since the bombings on 1 October during celebrations of the 50th anniversary of independence.

A militant group from the oil-producing Niger Delta region claimed responsibility for the blasts, and it has threatened to strike again.

Our correspondent says that group has never used heavy weapons of the type just seized in its attacks, and there are fears it might be changing its tactics.

But there is also insecurity in Nigeria's northeast involving the radical Islamist group, Boko Haram -- and this arms find is also prompting fears of a new uprising there, our correspondent adds.

Latest Update: Bombs seizure: SSS arrests two suspects

Two persons have been arrested by security operatives in connection with the discovery of rockets, grenades and explosives in 13 containers impounded at Apapa Wharf, Lagos on Tuesday.

Although details of the arrest were not made public by the State Security Service, THE PUNCH gathered that the suspects were as at Wednesday night undergoing interrogation.

The SSS Assistant Director of Public Relations, Mrs. Marylin Ogar, confirmed the arrest just as the National Security Adviser, Gen. Andrew Azazi (retd.), assured that all those involved in the importation of the arms and ammunition would be arrested.

Shortly after Azazi and Ogar spoke, President Goodluck Jonathan said the importers of the weapons described as those used by insurgents in Afghanistan, had sinister motives.

The NSA, who inspected the seized arms and ammunition, said the ‘very good procedure,’ in place at the port made their interception possible.

He added that it was too early to make conclusions on where the weapons originated and their destination.

The NSA said, “At this point, the only thing we can say is that we have some armament we discovered at the port by the security agencies. We don’t want to make any conclusions about where they are going or where they are coming from.

“We need a lot of verifications and at the end of the day, Nigerians will know this is what it is all about. Let’s not jump to conclusion. We will find them and do whatever is required to make sure that everybody is protected.

“If weapons were passing through unchecked, you will probably find out that these ones would also have passed through; I mean they have a very good procedure at the port and that is why they ensured that this arms vessel did not go unchecked.”

Asked whether the importation of the weapons had connection with the 2011 elections, Azazi replied, “I don’t know; I don’t want to jump to conclusions, until we get more information.”

The Comptroller–General, Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi, said in a statement that the exporter and importer of the arms and ammunition had no fixed addresses.

“This particular importation had no form ‘M’ and Risk Assessment Report. The importer and exporter had no addresses on the system, and we have reasons to believe that the importer’s name in the import documents is fictitious,” he said.

The statement by the NCS Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wale Adeniyi, disclosed that the containers were brought in by a vessel named MV CMA-CGM Everest.

Dikko, who added that the vessel sailed into Nigeria from India on July 10 and sailed out on July 15, 2010, also said that inspection on four of the containers revealed that they had “rocket launchers, assorted ammunitions, cartridges and other weapons.”

But he said that the service would “not speculate on the contents of the rest of the containers until the ongoing Joint Physical Inspection of all containers by customs and other security agencies is finalised.”

Abdullahi also said that 754 packages of glass wool and stones were declared on the ship’s manifest as contents of the 13 containers.

One of our correspondents, who visited the port, reported that people were frisked before being allowed to get close to the spot where the 13 containers bearing the weapons were off-loaded.

A police armoured vehicle marked Area C, Police (SWAT 15) was stationed at the inspection ground.

Sources said that operatives of the SSS, Nigerian Army, NCS, Nigerian Ports Authority security, Nigerian Air Force and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the scene were directed to keep sealed lips on the seizure.

The third and fourth containers inspected before our correspondent left the Wharf at about 4.30pm on Wednesday had 48 wooden crates.

The crates, which contained explosives, hand grenades, rockets, cartridges and marble tiles were wrapped with cellophane tapes. The rockets had inscriptions N.N: 18Kg ; Manufactured in 2008; Lot 353; 107MM.

Jonathan had in a statement by his campaign organisation in Abuja, commended security agencies for intercepting the items.

The statement by the organisation’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Sully Abu, said the agencies had by the seizure saved Nigeria from “mortal danger.”

Abu said, “The Goodluck/Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation has commended officials of the nation’s security services, the Police, SSS, Military and Naval intelligence, for the interception of an illegal arms shipment of rocket launchers, grenades and explosives at the Apapa Wharf in Lagos.

“By this interception, the Security services have saved Nigerians from mortal danger. It is obvious that the evil minds behind the importation of these arms have their sinister agenda.”

He added that “it was obvious that the evil minds behind the importation of these arms had their sinister agenda, and urged the security agencies to quickly expose them.

Abu quoted Jonathan as having called on all security agencies and “Nigerians at large to be very vigilant at this time in order to expose the few desperate ones who are hell-bent on disrupting the peace and orderliness of our land.”

Imploring all Nigerians to eschew violence as “we move towards a critical period in our nation’s history,” he said the 2011 elections must be seen as another phase in Nigeria’s development and not a desperate struggle for power.

Beaf:
The brand of Islam practised in Nigeria is Sunni. Unfortunately, Al Qaeda is also Sunni; Nigeria has terrorist groups affiliated with Al Qaeda in North Africa.

Al Qaeda groups will never recieve arms from Iran, in fact Iran see's Al Qaeda as a mortal enemy. However, Boko haram and Maitatsine cults in Nigeria practice Shiite Islam (the same as Iran shocked).

Nigerian politicians in the core North see the employment of shocking acts of violence as a short term route to gaining the upper hand; but this time, the omens portend a very dark future. I only foresee the core North dissolving into a sharia, Somali like cesspit when groups like Al Qaeda in North Africa (which sees the core North as its territory) begin to see the arming of shiite groups (Boko haram and Maitatsine cults) to sophisticated levels as an afront that deserves violent reactions.

Time to erect a wall to separate Southern Kaduna, Plateau, areas in Bauchi etc. Let us be onlookers, not partakers.
The line is not as clear as what u put forward above i.e. Shiite and Sunni, i'm not anti-Muslim, i'm just putting forward the role of Iran in destabilizing regions, especially where america is seen operating! yesterday it was in the news that Iran has been secretly funding the government of Afghanistan, Hamid Kazai reluctantly admitted this. Is Hamid Kazai a shiite? No, he was a sunni from Pashtun tribe of Afghanistan!

If it is investigated and found to be true that the weapons really came from Iran, the government should break ties with the country ASAP, Iran is a closed country where the government monitors every aspect of life and there is no way a ship laden with weapons will leave Tehran without the knowledge and sanction Of Ahmedinajad!
Iran according to their antecedence have been setting fire to many countries that are pro-America, infact according to the recent leak by wikileak, they played a major role in the bloody sectarian killing that engulfed Iraq in 2006 where tens of thousands died.
Fellow Nigerians don't let us play into the hands of those whose interest is in our destruction angry

Lets not jump the gun. There no such thing as al qaida.hezbolla is in lebanon. I doubt those rocket launchers even came from Iran.
Havent u heard of the QUDS FORCE, The brain behind hezbollah, very soon if we are not careful we'll be seeing the nigerian hezbollah (Sorry, i forgot they already exist as BOKO HARAM!)

Using the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards as the main tool to export the revolution beyond the borders of Iran
The Quds 1 ( Jerusalem ) Force is one of five branches of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps , which is the strongest military-security body in the country and the regime's main support. The Quds Force is an elite unit numbering, as far as is known, several thousand. It was established at the beginning of the 1990s to help export the revolution beyond the borders of Iran , and became the main Iranian apparatus working secretly beyond its borders .
In line with Iran 's policy of exporting the revolution, the official missions of the Quds Force are the following :

A. Carrying out special activities along and beyond Iran 's borders.

B. Supporting terrorist organizations , the most prominent of which is Hezbollah in Lebanon (which also symbolizes the success of exporting the revolution).

C. Operating sleeper networks of terrorists and supporters in the Middle East and in countries throughout the world.

D. Providing military and financial support for Islamic opposition parties in the Arab-Muslim world.

E. Collecting intelligence.

F. Operating against Iranian opposition to the regime beyond Iran 's borders.

7. The Quds Force's missions have as their objective the advancing of the Iranian Islamic regime's strategic goals in two main categories:

A. Implementing Iran 's ideological-political doctrines , the most important of which are installing Iranian hegemony throughout the Arab-Muslim world, extending Shi'a over all Islam and continuing the campaign to destroy the State of Israel.

B. Destroying American supremacy and harming American interests in the Arab-Muslim world in general and the Middle East in particular, through subversion and terrorist attacks against the West and its allies, without, insofar as is possible, leaving Iranian footprints.

8. The Quds Force is aggressive in advancing its missions, particularly through the traditional use of secret military operations. In recent years the Quds Force exploited the democratic process the United States has tried to instill in the Middle East, using it to improve the status of the terrorist organizations (the “resistance”), the militias and radical Islamic groups supported by Iran . That is done by creating political tools which can be used to establish Iranian influence, and includes paying off supporters in the various Arab states. While doing so the Quds Force has been careful to hide the fact that its agenda is to further solely Shi'ite Islam, and it has attempted to get a foothold in Sunni populations as well.

Shock greeted the news on Tuesday evening that a combined team of security agents had impounded 13 containers suspected to be loaded with arms and ammunition at Apapa Wharf in Lagos.

The discovery was made barely two weeks after a consignment of electronic equipment suspected to contain toxic materials was seized at the same port. The ship that brought in the consignment, however, disappeared from the port.

Almost four weeks ago, twin car bomb blasts killed 16 people and injured 66 others in Abuja on October 1.

An intelligence source told THE PUNCH that senior security officials swooped on the port, based on information that a suspicious cargo had been brought into the country from Iran.

The source said top officials from the Police, the State Security Service, the Directorate of Military Intelligence and Naval Intelligence participated in the operation.

It was gathered that the clearing agent had raised suspicion when he allegedly offered to “pay any amount” to get the containers transferred from AP Moller Terminal to an off-dock terminal.

The agent reportedly pleaded for the containers to be screened outside the ports.

But his attempts failed, as information was passed to the relevant quarters on his suspicious actions. It was at this juncture that security agents were called in to search the containers. The unidentified importers of the consignment were said to have described its contents as building materials.

It was gathered that when the first container was opened, the security agents found various sizes of grenades, rocket launchers, bombs, assault rifles and heavy machine guns hidden in 24 crates of building tiles.

However, the source said, “We cannot quantify the contents yet. All we know for now is that they are concealed in tiles.”

The SSS Assistant Director, Public Relations, Mrs. Marilyn Ogar, confirmed the seizure to our correspondent on the telephone, saying the weapons were concealed among crates of floor tiles.

“On opening the first container, operatives discovered rocket launchers, grenades and other explosives,” she said.

She, however, declined to provide the identity of the vessel that brought in the containers and its final destination. Ogar confirmed that the containers’ manifest indicated they contained building materials.

She said security agents would search the containers through the night.

Ogar said security agents got information after the October 1 twin bomb blasts in Abuja that “arms were being brought into the country.”

When contacted, the spokesman of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Wale Adeniyi, said, “As I speak with you, the first container is still being examined. We understand they are 13 in number. The contents of the first showed it had mortals, bullets and such related items.”

Attempt to obtain a reaction from the First Secretary, Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Sadeghazadeh, on Tuesday night failed as he did not answer calls to his phone. He did not also respond to an SMS.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta claimed responsibility for the blasts that cast a slur on Nigeria’s 50th independence anniversary celebration.

MEND leader, Mr. Henry Okar, is facing trial in a Johannesburg Magistrate court in South Africa, for allegedly being the mastermind of the blasts.

His brother, Charles and five others are also being prosecuted in Abuja for their alleged roles in the incident.

Most kidnap cases, oil platform seizures and disruptions in the Niger Delta are known to have been carried out by the group whose sources of arms and ammunition have largely remained unknown.

The National Task Force Combating Illegal Importation of Goods, Small Arms, Ammunition and Light Weapons had on October 18, impounded a lorry load of arms and ammunition in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The lorry was reportedly parked inside a compound in the city. But with the help of the police, the driver of the vehicle and the suspected importer were arrested.

It is believed that arms-build up was fuelling the violence in different parts of the country this year.

On January 17, clashes between Christians and Moslems in Jos, Plateau State, left at least 26 people dead, hundreds injured and thousands displaced.

In the same Jos, attackers wielding machetes and other dangerous weapons killed hundreds of people on March 7. A Plateau State official reportedly said the death toll could be more than 500, but police sources put it at 55.

In Warri, Delta State, two car bombs exploded some 200 metres away from the state Government House Annex, venue of a two-day post amnesty dialogue on March 15.

Similarly, there was a car bomb explosion along INEC Road in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on May 2. The bomb exploded few metres away from a hotel belonging to the then deputy governor of the state, Mr. Peremobowei Ebebi.

Also, gunmen men in four speedboats attacked Ebebi’s home with improvised explosives, killing a private security guard on July 23.

On September 7, suspected members of an Islamic sect, Boko Haram, set the Bauchi Central Prison ablaze and freed members of the sect who were jailed in connection with the 2009 violence that rocked the state and some other states in the northern parts of the country.
